VENICE
━━━━━∙⋆⋅⋆∙━━━━━

Hollie pinched the bridge of her nose feeling her anger rising after losing the Doctor yet again. They had been trying to find Rory's stag party for well over an hour now, the Doctor had jumped out of at least three different cakes, all ending in drunken men screaming and shouting at the Time Lord, a few throwing glasses in their anger.

"Hey!" Rory shouted down his phone, hoping that Amy or rather Amy's answer machine would be able to hear him over the noise of his friends in the background. "It's me. Hello. How are you?" He asked before continuing. "The reason for this call is because I haven't told you for seven hours that I love you, which is a scandal, and even if we weren't getting married tomorrow, I'd ask you to marry me anyway."

Hollie's eyes brightened as she heard one of her best friends shout down the phone as she walked past the open window of the pub, quickly running inside. "Yes, I would, because you are smash- Hollie?" He frowned as the blonde ran into the pub. "I thought you were with Amy?"

"Long story." Hollie puffed out, trying to catch her breath. "We need to go and find the Doctor now before he-"

"Wait." Rory cut in. "The Doctor."

"Yes."

"As in the Doctor."

"Yes, the Doctor, we need to find him before he somehow..."

Rory was suddenly pulled away from Hollie by one of his friends wearing a red shirt with a photo of Amy and Rory in a heart on the front and 'Rory's Stag' on the back, exactly the same as the one Rory and the rest of the stag party members were wearing.

The tune 'the stripper' started to play and a large pink cake was wheeled in. "Finds a cake..." Hollie slowly finished before running a hand down her face. "This is going to end well..." The blonde muttered as Rory's friends began to chant 'out' over and over.

Silence fell as the Doctors head suddenly burst out of the cake before he stood up. "Rory!" He cheered as the rest of the stag party stared at the man. "That's a relief. I thought I'd burst out of the wrong cake, again." Rory held a small smile of disbelief on his face, looking at Hollie for a second before looking back at the Time Lord who continued to speak: "That reminds me, there's a girl standing outside in a bikini. Could someone let her in and give her a jumper? Lucy. Lovely girl. Diabetic." He clapped his hands together. "Now then, Rory. We need to talk about your fiancé. She tried to kiss me."

"Doctor," Hollie warned.

The crowd around the cake gasped. "Tell you what, though. You're a lucky man. She's a great kisser."

A beer glass smashed as angry looks grew on multiple men of the stag party while Rory's face fell.

"I don't think this was the time or place to tell him that." Hollie quietly cut in, slowly making her way around the crowd to stand next to the Doctor.

"Yeah..." The Doctor slowly nodded. "Funny how you can say something in your head and it sounds fine."

"How did you even think that sounds fine in your head?!" She looked at him.

"I'm nine hundred years old!"

"That's not an excuse." Hollie crossed her arms at him in annoyance. The two stopped arguing as they heard the door to the pub suddenly shut. "Rory!" Hollie shouted running after the man who took off down the street."

"Ro- ah!" The Doctor cried falling out of the cake, jumping up instantly as the crowd grew closer around the Doctor. "Oh no." He swallowed.

---

"Ouch!" The Doctor yelped as Hollie dabbed his cheek with an alcohol wipe, wiping the small cut from his cheek while Amy bit her fingernails, a nervous look on her face.

"Stop whining." She replied before looking at Amy and Rory, who stood at very different ends of the main console, the poor man looking like a small fish in a big pond, unsure where to stand in the large console room.

"If Rory didn't run off-" The Doctor began with a huff.

"If you didn't tell him in front of all of his friends you wouldn't be in this situation." Hollie cut in, shooting the Doctor an annoyed look.

"Fine." He huffed again before battering the girls hand away as she went to dab his cheek with the wipe again. "I'm fine."

"Says the Alien whining about an alcohol wipe."

"It stings!" He protested.

"Whatever." Hollie rolled her eyes and stood back as the Doctor rubbed his cheek, feeling the small cut.

"Thank you though." He nodded, a small smile on his face before he blinked noticing Amy and Rory. "Ah yes!" The Doctor clapped his hands together. "The life out there, it dazzles. I mean, it blinds you to the things that are important." He shrugged. "I've seen it devour relationships and plans. Because for one person to have seen all that, to taste the glory and then go back, it will tear you apart. So, now Hollie has stopped fussing over a small harmless cut."

"It was bleeding!" She cut in.

"I'm sending you somewhere, together."

"Whoa." Amy looked at Rory then back at the Doctor. "What, like a date?"

"Anywhere you want." He danced around the console. "Any time you want. One condition." He stopped moving and held a finger up before grinning. "It has to be amazing!"

The Doctor ran around the console again. "The Moulin Rouge in 1890. The first Olympic Games. Think of it as a wedding present, because it's either this or tokens." He stopped in front of Rory. "It's a lot to take in, isn't it? Tiny box, huge room inside. What's that about? Let me explain-"

"It's another dimension," Rory replied a second before the Doctor added:

"It's basically another dimension." He blinked: "What?"

"After what happened with Prisoner Zero, I've been reading up on all the latest scientific theories. FTL travel, parallel universes." Rory explained, his eyes slightly glossy as if he had been crying.

"I like the bit when someone says it's bigger on the inside." His face fell. "I always look forward to that."

"So, this date." Amy cut in. "I'm kind of done with running down corridors. What do you think, Rory?"

The Doctor raised his eyebrows and glanced at Hollie for a moment who shrugged. The Time Lord grinned. "How about somewhere romantic?" He looked at the human couple before pulling down a leaver.

---

"Venice!" The Doctor announced with a cheer as he exited the TARDIS. "Venezia. La Serenissima. Impossible city. Preposterous city. Founded by refugees running from Attila the Hun. It was just a collection of little wooden huts in the middle of the marsh, but became one of the most powerful cities in the world. Constantly being invaded, constantly flooding, constantly just beautiful." He smiled. "Ah, you got to love Venice. So many people did. Byron, Napoleon, Casanova. Ooo, that reminds me." He raised his watch, looking at the watch on the inside of his wrist, causing Hollie to frown slightly. "1580. That's all right. Casanova doesn't get born for a hundred and forty-five years. Don't want to run into him. I owe him a chicken."

Hollie frowned as Rory asked what all three of the humans were thinking: "You owe Casanova a chicken?"

"Long story." He waved off as he headed in a direction. "We had a bet."

"Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa." A small, plump man stopped the four. "Papers, if you please. Proof of residency, current bill of medical inspection."

The Doctor held up his psychic paper. "There you go, fellow. All to your satisfaction, I think you'll find."

"I am so sorry, Your Holiness. I didn't realise."

"No worries. You were just doing your job." The Doctor blinked. "Sorry, what exactly is your job?"

"Checking for aliens." Hollie glanced at the Doctor for a moment. "Visitors from foreign lands what might bring the plague with them."

"Oh, that's nice," Amy muttered, glaring at the Doctor. "See where you bring me? The plague."

"Don't worry, Viscountess. No, we're under quarantine here. No one comes in, no one goes out, and all because of the grace and wisdom of our patron, Signora Rosanna Calvierri."

"How interesting." The Time Lord frowned. "I heard the plague died out years ago."

"Not out there. No, Signora Calvierri has seen it with her own eyes. Streets are piled high with bodies, she said."

"Did she now." The Doctor mumbled to himself. Rory took the psychic paper from the Inspector as the man moved onto stopping another person.

"Er, according to this, I am your eunuch." Rory frowned.

"Oh yeah." Hollie nodded. "It's the Doctors psychic paper. It gives the holder whatever they want to see."

"Oh." Rory nodded, watching as Hollie followed the Doctor.

Amy awkwardly glanced at Rory for a moment before following as well.

The four stopped walking and looked in the direction multiple people were pointing in as they heard whispers of 'The Calvierri girls.'

The Doctor watched with Hollie as a man shouted a woman's name before falling backwards and onto the group as a woman walked towards him. "Isabella?!" He called. "Isabella, it's me."

The woman then turned around and headed back behind the gates as the man continued to cry out. "Isabella! It's me!"

The Doctor glanced at Hollie and grinned, holding his hand out. "Wanna leave those two for a bit and check it out?"

Hollie glanced at Amy and Rory who was still watching the man on the other side of the canal before looking back at the Doctor and taking his hand.

The Time Lord grinned and the two-headed off, just as Amy looked in their direction.  "What was that about?" She groaned realising neither of them was stood there. "I hate it when he does that and takes Hollie with him."

"He takes Hollie with him?" Rory frowned. "And not you?"

Amy shrugged. "I think he might know about her crush on him."

Rory chuckled. "Looks a lot more than just a crush."

---

"Who are those girls?" The Doctor asked after he and Hollie followed the man calling for the woman into an alleyway.

"I thought everyone knew about the Calvierri school." The man gave the Doctor a curious look.

"Our first day here." He replied with a shrug. "It's okay. Parents do all sorts of things to get their children into good schools. They move house, they change religion. So why are you trying to get her out?"

"Something happens in there. Something magical, something evil. My own daughter didn't recognise me. And the girl who pushed me away, her face, like an animal."

"Like a wolf?" Hollie asked.

"Much worse." The man answered.

The Doctor glanced at Hollie. "I think it's time I met this Signora Calvierri, what do you say Holls?"

The blonde grinned. This was way better than just a romantic trip for Amy and Rory.

---

"And what have you been doing?" Rory questioned Amy as they both moved through the streets, exploring Venice while the Doctor and Hollie were gods knows where.

"Well, running, and fighting. I've been scared. More scared than I thought was possible."

"Did you miss me?" Rory asked.

"I knew I'd be coming back."

"He was right." Rory shook his head. "It blots out everything else."

"Rory, this is our date. Let's not do this. Not now, please."

"Huh." He blinked. "We are in Venice and it is 1580."

"I know." Amy giggled and passed her phone to Rory.

"Flowers, signor?" A girl handed flowers to a man before walking around a building, Amy and Rory continued walking before they heard a screen just as Rory was about to take a photo of Amy

"What was that?" Rory asked, running after Amy, the two stopped as they noticed a young woman lying on the floor, a bite mark to her neck.

"She'll be okay." He called and headed off when she didn't reply. "Amy, come back!"

Amy chased after the man, frowning when she came to an alleyway that opened straight to the canal, the man nowhere in sight.

"Enjoying the sites?"

Amy turned around, her eyes wide before she relaxed as one of the Time Trio girls stood with her arms crossed. "Which one are you?"

"Nova." She smiled and headed over. "What are you looking for?"

"A man."

"A man?" Nova repeated, a teasing smile on her lips. "What happened to Rory?"

"Not you too." She groaned. "I messed up."

Nova's smile grew while she walked over to Amy. "People do mess up but it's okay, you know you messed up, that's what is important."

"I didn't just kiss the Doctor, though did I?" She shook her head. "I hurt my best friend."

"Hollie." Nova nodded and frowned for a moment in thought. "She'll be okay."

"How do you know that?"

"I'm from the future." Nova grinned. "Spoiler: she's not mad at you forever."

Amy sighed and nodded before they both turned around as Rory walked up to them. "Who-"

"Nova." She held her hand out, chuckling slightly.

"The Doctor, Hollie, and I met Nova, her identical sister Cassiopeia and their brother Orion, they're triplets."

"When was this?" Rory asked.

"Just after our last adventure."

"Before you kissed the Doctor," Rory added.

"Yeah..." Amy replied.

Nova looked between the couple. "We should find the Doctor and Hollie."

---

"You have my daughter," Guido told the guards before shouting through the gate for his daughter. "Isabella!"

"No, you're not coming in. Just stop there. Look, we've told you."

The Doctor and Hollie carefully walked around the entrance and towards the watergate. Using his sonic to unlock the gate before he and Hollie went inside.

"You have my daughter. Isabella!" Guido shouted again. "I demand you let me see my daughter."

"Go away." The guard at the gate ordered while stepping forward.

"Isabella, it's me. It's your father."

"We will arrest you."

"Isabella!"

---

The Doctor and Hollie walked down a stone staircase and into what looked like a small cellar with three mirrors in a row on the furthest wall.

"Hello, handsome." The Doctor smiled at his reflection and adjusted his bow tie.

Hollie rolled her eyes before chuckling as the Time Lord glared at her ever so slightly.

"Who are you?" A group of female voices asked all at the same time. The Doctor and Hollie spun around to see at least five of the girls wearing identical white dresses.

"But." Hollie looked at the mirror. The Doctor did the same thing multiple times as he talked.

"How are you doing that? I am loving it." He grinned. "You're like Houdini, only five slightly scary girls, and he was shorter. Will be shorter. I'm rambling aren't I?" He looked at Hollie.

"Just a bit." She nodded.

"I'll ask you again, signor, signorina. Who are you?"

"Why don't you check this out?" The Doctor held up an ID card. Hollie frowned at the photograph of an old man while the girls looked blankly at it.

"Library card." The Doctor sighed in annoyance. "Of course, it's with." He gestured a large nose. "He's. I need a spare. Pale, creepy girls who don't like sunlight and can't be seen. Ha. Am I thinking what I think I'm thinking? But the city. Why shut down the city? Unless..."

"Leave now, signor, senorita or we shall call for the Steward, if you are lucky."

"Ooo." The girls bared their pointy needle-like teeth, slowly walking towards the Doctor and Hollie.

"I think we took the wrong turning somewhere, right Doctor?"

"Tell me the whole plan." He ordered them before mumbling to himself and Hollie. "One day that will work." He looked at the girls. "Listen, I would love to stay here. This whole thing. I'm thrilled." Hollie swallowed hard before backing up further and then pulling the Doctor up the stairs. "Oh, this is Christmas."

---

"Doctor!" Amy called as she and Nova ran up to the Doctor and Hollie as night began to fall upon Venice.

"We just met some vampires!" He grinned.

"We just saw a vampire," Amy replied.

The Doctor laughed "And creepy girls and everything."

"Vampires!" Amy replied.

"We think we just saw a vampire," Rory muttered.

"Yeah, yeah, yeah, Amy was just telling us." He nodded then frowned. "Nova?"

"Hello!" The woman grinned.

"What are you doing in 1580 Venice?"

Nova shrugged. "Came to see the sites."

"Right." He replied, not entirely convinced as he looked at Amy and Rory. "We need to get back in there somehow."

"What?" Rory blinked.

"How do we do that?" Hollie frowned. "They know who we are?"

"Back in where?" Rory frowned.

"The house," Nova answered.

The Doctor grinned. "Come and meet mine and Hollie's new friend.

---

"As you saw, there's no clear way in," Guido explained as he spread a map of Venice in his house. "The House of Calvierri is like a fortress. But there's a tunnel underneath it, with a ladder and shaft that leads up into the house. I tried to get in once myself, but I hit a trapdoor."

"You need someone on the inside," Amy stated.

"No." The Doctor instantly replied, not even looking at the ginger.

"You don't even know what I was going to say!"

"Er, that we pretend you're an applicant for the school to get you inside, and tonight you come down and open the trapdoor to let us in."

"Oh. So you do know what I was going to say."

Nova chuckled. "It's not a bad idea."

"Are you insane?" Rory looked at Amy and Nova.

"Yes." The blonde replied with a smirk.

"We don't have another option," Amy added.

"He said no, Amy. Listen to him."

"There is another option." Guido then pointed at the collection of barrels behind Rory. "I work at the Arsenale. We build the warships for the navy."

Rory's eyes widened in realisation and he stepped away from the barrels as the Doctor sniffed them. "Gunpowder. Most people just nick stationery from where they work. Look, I have a thing about guns and huge quantities of explosive."

"What do you suggest, then? We wait until they turn her into an animal?"

"I'll be there three, four hours, tops." Amy tried to convince them again.

"I'll go then." Nova shrugged it off as if it was nothing.

"No. No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. It can't keep happening like this. This is how they go. But I have to know" he sighed and looked at the blonde. "We go together, say you're my daughter."

"What? Don't listen to him."

"Your daughter?" Amy repeated. "You look about nine."

"Brother, then." He shrugged.

"Being your daughter would have been slightly more accurate." Nova snickered.

Amy looked between then both. "She looks nothing like you, she's blonde!"

"Well, that's just rude," Nova muttered.

"At least go with being her fiancé."

Nova let out a loud cough, eyes wide. "No way."

"Agreed," Hollie muttered.

"I mean, they've already seen the Doctor." Amy looked from the Time Lord to Rory. "You should do it."

Nova quickly shook her head. "Okay, I'm out."

"What?" Amy looked at her. "Why?"

"I'm not going around calling Rory my fiancé, no thank you."

Amy narrowed her eyes. "Something wrong with him?"

"Nope." She shook her head. "Just no thanks."

"Fine." The Doctor cut in. "Say he's your cousin and I'm your father?"

Nova tilted her head slightly before shrugging. "Sure." She shrugged.

"Finally." Amy sighed.

"But you still can't go alone."

Nova groaned. "I'll be fine, it's better me going by myself than me and Amy going."

"No!" The Doctor looked at her.

"So Nova can be my niece?" Amy questioned before looking at Rory. "And you can be my brother."

"Why is him being her brother weird because she's blonde, but us being siblings with you being ginger okay?"

"Wait, I thought you were her fiancé." Guido looked at the Doctor.

"Yeah, that's not helping." The Doctor remarked, eyes flickering to Hollie for a brief moment.

"This whole thing is mental. They're vampires, for God's sake."

"We hope." The Doctor replied.

"So if they're not vampires?" Hollie frowned.

"Makes you wonder what could be so bad it doesn't actually mind us thinking it's a vampire." He shrugged.

---

With Rory swapping clothes with Guido and Nova and Amy borrowing some appropriate clothing from Guido's daughters wardrobe the three stood in a large hall of the Calvierri house in front of the woman who owned the house, Rosanna and a young man.

"So, basically, both of our parents are dead from getting the plague and our uncle, her father can't cope with us all." Rory nervously explained as the young man Amy had been chasing earlier the day before circled the three,  "I'm a gondola driver, so money's a bit tight, so having my sister and our cousin go to your school for special people would be brilliant. Cheers."

"Have we met?" The man asked.

"I've just got one of those faces."

"I wasn't talking to you." He glared at Rory ever so slightly before looking at Amy.

"She's got the same face, which is because she's my sister."

"Carlo, explain yourself." Why have you brought me this imbecile?"

"Signora, they have references from His Majesty the King of Sweden." Carlos the Steward explained.

"What? Let me see."

Rory stepped forward with the psychic paper while the man continued to circle Amy and Nova.

"Well, now I see what got my Steward so excited. What say you, Francesco? Do you like them?"

"Oh, I do, Mother. I do."

"Then we would be delighted to accept them both. Say goodbye to your sister and cousin.

"Tell dad I'll look after Amy," Nova told Rory as Carlos quickly hurried him away.

"We'll see you both really soon, okay?" Amy called as he left. "We'll be fine."

---

Carlos led Amy and Nova up the stone staircase, the two carefully walked past the pale young women as they followed Carlos into a large room with several beds.

"There are clothes on the bed," Carlos explained. "Get changed and wait here."

"Blimey. This is private education, then?" Amy looked at Nova.

The blonde raised a brow. "Never been in private, bit different to where I went through."

The two-spotted a young girl sat on one of the nearby beds. "Hey." Amy walked up to the girl. "I'm Amy, this is Nova. What's your name?"

"Isabella."

Nova smiled. "We know your dad."

"You do." She looked up. "How."

"Let's just say we found him quite eager to get out of here and we will get you out, but we need you to tell us what's going on. What is this place for and what are they doing?"

"They er, they come at night." She began to explain. "They gather around my bed, and they take me to a room with this green light and a chair with straps, as if for a surgeon."

"What happens in there?" Amy asked.

"I wake up here. And the sunlight burns my skin like candle wax."

Nova slowly nodded. "Amy, stay here." She walked to the door."

"Where are you going?"

"I'm going to figure out what's going on around here, if anyone comes to the room, hide."

Amy slowly nodded and Nova quickly left the room, picking up a small lit candle on her way.

---

"She'll be fine." The Doctor reassured Rory as Guido pushed one of the boats down the lake in Venice, Hollie sat next to him with Rory opposite. "She's with Nova."

"And from what I gathered you only just met that girl and her two siblings earlier today, how can you trust her?"

The Doctor blinked and didn't reply, Rory was right... how could he trust her?

"We're here." Guido stopped the boat allowing the Doctor, Hollie and Rory to get out.

The three-headed through a tunnel "Right. Okay, I'll go first. If anything happens to me, go back..."

"What happened, between you and Amy?" Rory cut in. "You said she kissed you."

"Now? You want to do this now?"

"I have a right to know." He hissed. "I'm getting married in four hundred and thirty years."

---

Amy and Nova pulled back a cover, smiling as they found the trap door to the tunnel the Doctor, Hollie and Nova would come out of. Nova pulled back the metal bolts before she turned around as Amy gasped, dropping her candle when seeing Carlos had followed them.
