SHIELD FACILITY
san fransico
1989

Dr. Hank Pym, marched into the SHIELD facility, his footsteps echoing through the corridors of power. Hank exuded a determined aura, his jaw set in resolve as he approached the boardroom in the Triskelion. As he entered the boardroom the tension among the high-ranking officials of SHIELD was palpable, thick enough to slice through with a knife. Hank's gaze fell upon Howard Stark, Peggy Carter, Howard Stark and Mitchell Carson, his demeanor firm and unwavering.

"Stark." Hank's voice cut through the silence like a blade, drawing the attention of the room.

Mitchell Caron was one of the officials, and possibly Hank's least favorite person in the entire world. "He doesn't seem happy." Mitchell remarked.

Howard Stark, ever the diplomat greeted Hank with a calm demeanor. "Hello, Hank. You're supposed to be in Moscow."

Hank's response was direct and unapologetic. "I took a detour." He declared placing a vial containing a red serum on the table. "Through your defense lab."

Peggy's eyes narrowed at the sight of the vial. "Tell me that isn't what I think it is."

Hank's voice resonated with authority as he addressed the room. "It depends if you think it's a poor attempt to replicate my work. Even for this group, that takes nerve."

Carson attempted to assert authority, reminding Hank of his obligations. "You were instructed to go to Russia. May I remind you, Dr. Pym, that you're a soldier...."

Hank cut him off with a firm declaration of his identity. Never once has he been called a soldier. "I'm a scientist." He asserted, his voice leaving no room for argument.

Howard Stark attempted to appeal the reason emphasizing the potential benefits of Hank's work. "Then act like one. The Pym Particle is the most revolutionary science ever developed, help us put it to good use."

The tension in the room reached boiling point as Carson made a disparaging remark about Hank's late wife, Janet. Hank's composure faltered briefly before he erupted in a burst of rage, slamming Carson's face into the table which made it start bleeding. Peggy Carter intervened swiftly, pulling him away from the confrontation.

"Easy, Hank." She urged, her voice firm yet calming.

Hank's warning to Carson was clear and menacing. "You mention my wife again and I'll show you ferocity." He threatened, his gaze piercing.

Howard Stark attempted to defuse the situation urging Hank to reconsider his resignation. "We don't accept it. Formally, Hank, we need you. The Pym Particle is a miracle. Please don't let your past determine the future."

"As long as I am alive, nobody will get that formula." He vowed, his tone unwavering. With that Hank turned and left the boardroom, his departure a silent declaration of his principles.

As he walked away Carson's voice echoed in the room, his desire for retaliation evident. "We shouldn't let him leave the building."

Peggy's response was measured, her words carrying the weight of wisdom. "You've already lied to him, and now you want to go to war with him?"

Carson remained undeterred, his determination unyielding. "Yes! Our scientists haven't come close to replicating his work."

Howard Stark's warning was clear and ominous. "He just kicked your ass full size. You really want to find out what it's like when you can't see him coming? I've known Hank Pym for a long time, he's no security risk. Unless we make him one."

2013

A girl of thirteen crouched down in the dim lighting, peeking from the upstairs banister. She could see her mom's light blonde head hanging over the kitchen table from where she sat. The girl stayed as hidden as best she could, which probably wouldn't last long because Stephanie sucks at hiding. She would think that she found a good hiding spot, but in reality it sucks and blows her cover almost immediately. Technically, she is supposed to be asleep, but here she is at 1 a.m. hearing her  mother crying, and not like while watching movies, but actually crying which lowkey scares Stephanie.

Scott honestly didn't really care when she'd stay u p past her bedtime. He would sometimes join her until her mother would ruin the fun and tell her it is way past her bed time. Maggie is a party pooper, to say the least. For the past couple nights, Stephanie hasn't really slept that much, so even though she is exhausted she tries to stay awake until she passes out. With everything going on, her body won't let her fall asleep. Okay, that is a lie, she just doesn't want to fall asleep, at least until her father comes back.

But he isn't coming back.

"Annie?"

The thirteen year old turned her head so fast it probably cracked which felt good, but almost blew her cover of hiding. She glanced over her shoulder to see her sleepy four year old sister standing a few feet away. She wiped the crusties from her eyes as now she's awake, which technically even Cassie is supposed to be sleeping. There is absolutely no reason why a four year old should be awake at one am, let alone her older sister. So if they get into trouble by their mother at least they got into trouble, together.

"Where is daddy?" That was the question that Stephanie dreaded hearing from her sister, by any means. She wondered in the past 24 hours when her sister was going to ask that question, and now seems still early to hear that question.

He was more than gone. He had been sent to prison, he wouldn't be able to hug them again, not for a really long time. He wouldn't be able to put them onto his shoulders anymore, or have karaoke in the car anymore, or take Stephanie to another Taylor Swift concert anymore. If Cassie wasn't here, and awake, Stephanie would most likely cry, and have a breakdown of her best friend leaving. Well one of her best friends. Her bestest friend is a girl named Scarlett Olsen, but that is a story for another day. Not the right time.

Stephanie walked into her fairy light and fake leaf decorated room and a picture of her and her dad caught her eye as she smiled before bringing it to her chest and hugging it, before putting it back where it was. She grabbed the one thing that will surely make her cry, which was one of her father's hoodies that she had stolen when she was younger. In her defense, he left it unattended and it was just laying on the couch and she had an opportunity of stealing it, and never giving it back. So that is exactly what she did.

She put the hoodie over her pajamas as she let out a quiet sigh before climbing into bed before clutching her stuffed elephant that her father had gotten her after she was born. Her elephant surely reminds her of her father, but on top of that she is wearing the hoodie. Might as well cry.

In her mind, she kept telling herself that she would come back, but little does she know he doesn't.

Well, he does, but not the way that she had inticipated.
