The cool spring breeze softly blew a few strands of her ponytailed hair as Chaeyoung walked through the school gates. Inhaling the sweet scent of the plants and flowers in her school garden she entered the building.
Two months have passed since the 'incident' as Chaeyoung calls it and she walked towards her new classroom. Yes, she is now promoted to tenth grade and still has the same classmates.
She kept her bag, not next to Chan Mi but now next to Yera since they decided on sitting together. She sat down silently and stared at the structure of her new classroom. New day, new possibilities, new chances.
The thought was interrupted as she was aggressively shaken and Yera screamed, "Hello bitch!" "I thought you were the bitch," Chaeyoung replied. "We both are," Yera said and she nodded before laughing and hugging the girl.
"Okay, new class, forget that stupid Jeongguk, focus on important things. B T dubs," Yera said as Chae raised her eyebrows, "Did you just say B T dubs?" "I did, I can hear how I sounded, but listen, no regrets," Yera replied as Chae laughed at her.
"Yeah, by the way, when are you debuting?" Yera asked. "Next year possibly," Chae whispered and Yera did a little celebratory dance. "What are you doing?" Chaeyoung asked sarcastically slowly putting Yera's hands down. "Celebrating, think about this, I can tell in the future, I was friends with Park Chaeyoung when she was a confused little shit and before she was famous."
Chaeyoung stared at Yera for two nice seconds before slapping her head. "Yah," the latter screamed and Chaeyoung grinned in a sinister manner.
Just then Jeongguk enters the class shuffling by a few students. Chaeyoung could sense he was nervous but she couldn't care less, or so she thought. Her eyes lingered on his figure for fraction of a second before she turned herself around and swiftly sat down.
Yera quietly eyed her knowing her friend was obviously not over that boy. Well, it has just been two months though. She exhaled softly before sitting down quietly beside her friend.
Chan Mi entered later with Dasom and Aeri as they grinned towards the other two and sat down. Yugyeom entered and realised today was the day, the day a heart will be broken, again.
He walked towards Jeongguk putting his bag down and said, "So today?" "Yeah, I am going to ask her out, finally," Jeongguk replied.
"Yay," Yugyeom showed fake enthusiasm. Yes, his heart will be broken, again, due to Chan Mi. Because Yugyeom left her and gave Jeongguk the reason she liked someone else. She did. She liked Jeongguk, and he knew. On every date, Chan Mi would somehow bring up Jeongguk and Yugyeom had to suck it up and listen.
At first, he thought it was only because Jeongguk was a good friend but later realised she had feelings for him. So he left her as he wanted her happy.
And eventually, he made Jeongguk fall for her, by talking about her non-stop, even though it was hurting him. He didn't know though that she fell out of love. Or her infatuation.
Jeongguk fiddled the chocolate inside his fingers and said, "I will ask her out in recess." "Okay, then," Yugyeom replied grinning. Of course, he was happy for his friend.
But Jeon Jeongguk couldn't build up the courage to ask her out during recess. By the time he had finally got himself up the bell rang and the teacher came in.
Talk about bad timing!
And so finally by the end of the day, he decided he would tell her. Clutching the chocolate in his hands he brushed by Chaeyoung and went to Chan Mi who was sitting in front of her.
Chaeyoung quietly kept packing her bag trying to be the least interested in their conversation but she couldn't help but overhear it.
"Yeah, tell," Chan Mi said smiling lightly at him and taking a quick glance at Chaeyoung. People would say that Chan Mi was being a bad friend for talking to Jeongguk but it was Chaeyoung who told her.
The day after he insulted her the other girls wanted to cut ties because insulting her was completely not on the list. But Chaeyoung told them they shouldn't. Because he never hurt them, and thus there was no reason to do anything.
Suddenly, Chaeyoung's ears perked up as Jeongguk said, "Chan Mi, I like you, will you be my girlfriend?" while holding out the chocolate. "God that's one pathetic way to describe someone's feelings, chocolate really?" Chae murmured gritting her teeth.
But deep in her heart, she knew, it was not pathetic, it was simple, minimal, just the way she likes it. And it pained her, it filled her up with jealousy against Chan Mi. Then she hurriedly looked over to Yugyeom who stood there silently, hurting inside.
And then her ear perked up again as everybody looked at Chan Mi as she swiftly said, "No."
Jeongguk's grip on the chocolate loosened and he felt as if his safety bubble was crushing down. He inhaled sharply standing there not knowing what to do.
Chan Mi said, "Jeongguk I really appreciate all this, but sorry I like someone else," and with that said she hurriedly left the classroom. Chaeyoung too picked up her bag and walked out not wanting to be any more there. She didn't know what she was feeling right now, was she happy? Sad? She felt so stoic, so void of every emotion.
On the other hand, Jeongguk's eyes pooled with tears as he hurriedly took his bag and ran out ignoring all the calls from his friends. So this is how it feels? To get rejected. If these simple words hurt so much, he couldn't even begin to imagine how much he hurt Chaeyoung, and that's when he knew, he had done a mistake.
He knew now how he would regret it and this is the regret he would feel for life.
I am back.
