13 - Love Is In The Air

3 weeks later

These two weeks have been absolutely unbelievable! Thomas and I virtually spent time everyday. Two days after we went for lunch, we watched a movie and then later had coffee. I invited him over one day for dinner. It was great!

But something suddenly stopped it. This past week we haven't seen each other. We've been so busy that we barely talk anymore.

My phone rang and I answered it, "Hey Tommy! What's up?" Thomas answered, "Nothing much. I was wondering if you'd like to go out somewhere, maybe for some coffee?"

I wanted to but I had other commitments. "Sorry Tommy, I'm going out with my boyfriend Benjamin. We're going for lunch. Maybe some other time," I said sadly. I really wanted to spend time with him but I have a boyfriend for like, the first time.

"Oh...Well, talk to you later then. Bye," Thomas sounded heartbroken. I felt so bad for rejecting him. But what could I do? Anyways, its not like he loves me!

"Who was that on the phone? Was it Thomas?" Ben asked as he wore his shoes. I sighed, "Yeah it was Thomas."

He put a hand on my shoulder and kissed my cheek. This didn't feel right. Nothing felt right.

I sat in Ben's car as he started it up, and we then drove off to have lunch.

********

Lunch was okay, I guess. We just talked but, it wasn't like how it was with Thomas. It was kind of dull.

"I'll see you later El! Love you," Ben said and kissed my cheek. I forced a smile, something I don't do often. Its not that I don't like Ben, he's an amazing guy. He's good looking, kind hearted and such a gentleman but it just doesn't feel right.

I sighed as I saw Ben drive off. I have to fix this somehow. I just need to figure out why I'm so gloomy.

*Thomas' POV*

All the happiness had been drained from my face. The hurt was something I haven't felt, it was unbearable. Ellie has a boyfriend, she's not mine anymore. Well, she was never mine but now I realise that...

I love her.

I looked up at the sky. Dull, grey and gloomy... Just like me. It may rain later. I walked into the bar I've been going to for the past two weeks. I don't go to bars as often as everyday, but I'm too depressed to do anything.

"Hey Thomas, what can I get you?" The bartender asked. I sat down at a stool near the counter and said, "The usual Mark. Thanks."

I sighed as I stared at the TV which was above. There was a football match going on. I didn't feel like paying attention.

"I know it's not my business but... why do you look so heartbroken? You suddenly started showing up. What's wrong?" Mark asked with concern as he served me my drink.

I took a sip, "My heart's broken. Two weeks ago I found out that a good friend of mine got a boyfriend. I started to like her and wanted to go out with her. I called her but she said she had to go for lunch with her boyfriend Benjamin." It hurt to talk about it.

"Why don't you tell her how you feel? Just let her know. If she doesn't like you back... At least you checked, at least she'll knows. Then you can move on," Mark suggested. I've heard from friends who come here that he's really good at giving suggestions.

"But, I just... I love her so much that if she doesn't like me, I won't be able to live properly," I started to panic. My hands were shaking. I've NEVER felt like this.

"Thomas, you gotta be a man. You love her and she may love you too. Maybe even more than you love her. Go and tell her how you feel. If she doesn't like you, I'll give you a pint for free, everyday of this week!" Mark laughed. He was a really kind guy, funny and serious at the right times.

I sighed. I had to agree with him.

"I'm going to do it. I'm going to tell her right now!" I got up and smiled. "Now that's a man! Trust me, you will not be disappointed and I won't be seeing you here anytime soon! You can bring her here! I'll give you both free drinks," Mark said.

"Thanks Mark. You're an amazing and thoughtful guy!" I walked out of the door, took a deep breath and drove to Ellie's house.

********

I can't believe I'm doing this. What if she doesn't like me? What if she thinks that I'm crazy to think that she may like me?

I pushed the negative thoughts away and rang the door bell.

"I'll get that!" I heard her sweet voice on the other side of the door. A second later there was a click and the door opened.

Ellie stood there looking more than pretty... She looked beautiful. Her hair was open and curled. She was wearing a purple, flowy dress with white flats. Her brown eyes stared into mine, it made my insides turn.

"Hey Tommy! Surprise seeing you here! What are you doing here? Not that I don't want you here but... Yeah... Great," Ellie said in a rush. She sounded nervous and embarrassed towards the end.

I rubbed my neck and smiled, "I just came to meet you and tell you something. I..." Ellie interrupted me. "Just a second Tommy. WHAT IS IT BEN?" She shouted. "WHERE ARE MY SHOES?" I heard a faint voice of a young man.

"THEY'RE NEXT TO THE BED! Sorry about that Tommy. So what did you want to tell me?" Just then I heard a loud beeping.

BEEP! BEEP! BEEP! BEEP! BEEP!

"What is that?" I said as I covered my ears. "OH SHIT! I completely forgot!" Ellie ran towards the kitchen and opened the oven. I followed her.

The beeping stopped after the smoke which filled the kitchen dispersed. "I baked some chocolate chip cookies and forgot all about them. I was going to give them to you. Well, they're burnt! DAMN!" She was really angry.

I held her hands and told her that its fine, and that it was so nice of her to actually make me something.

"I'm sorry... Anyways, what did you want to tell me?" Ellie asked as she threw the burnt cookies in the dustbin. I completely forgot about the reason I came here. Well here's my chance! Don't ruin this Thomas...

"I... Just wanted to tell you that..."

"Hey El, I'm ready. Let's go... Oh who's this? Its Thomas, isn't it ?" A young man walked into the kitchen and kissed Ellie on the cheek, I flinched.

"Yup, this is Thomas Sangster! Tommy, this is Benjamin," Ellie introduced. I forced a smile as I shook his hand. There was an awkward silence between the three of us until Ellie spoke, "Okay well, Thomas I'm sorry but we both are going somewhere. Could we talk later?" She held my hand which made me have goosebumps all over.

I sighed but then smiled, "Of course... Enjoy." She gave me a warm smile. I said goodbye and walked out of the door, towards my car.

Well that was such a fail. I have to do it quickly. The sooner, the better... The sooner, the better.

But she seems so happy. Maybe I shouldn't tell her. It may make things weird between us.

*Ellie's POV*

Seeing Thomas with such a sad face made me feel as if someone was digging a hole in my heart with a shovel. I couldn't help but think... Of the one thought that was always hidden deep within my mind. The fact that...

I love Thomas.

I realised at the moment he smiled at me, and disappeared. I can't live without him. I've been so blind.

I love him.

"Ready to go?" Ben said, snapping me out of my thoughts. I was lost. But I knew I had to do something. That one thing could change my life. I can't lose this moment.

"Umm... I have to do something. I can't... Do this anymore. I'm sorry," I grabbed my coat and ran out the main door. I dashed downstairs to the main street. It was raining... not too much, not too little.

I heard Benjamin behind me, but that wasn't what I was bothered about. I searched for Thomas and thankfully found him getting into his car.

I ran as fast as I could. "THOMAS! Thomas!" I exclaimed. He looked back. He was drenched. I wasn't in such a great place either.

"Ellie what are you bloody doing here? Its raining! You'll get a cold!" Thomas said. "Thomas I have to say something. You may think that I'm bloody crazy but I don't care. I'm going to say it anyways," I said quickly. I had his attention.

"I don't know why but I've been out of place and confused for the last two weeks. It always felt that what was happening wasn't right. That I should be somewhere else, with someone else. But I realised today, when you came today that... I love you. I love you more than anyone I've ever loved," before he could say anything, I smashed my lips to his. I don't care who's looking and what they think. It felt so right with him.

He was probably stunned because it happened so suddenly but then he kissed back. We stood there in the rain, my hands around his neck and his around my waist. I didn't care about what was happening in the world. I wanted this moment to last forever.

I pulled away, dreading his response. "I'm sorry about that. If I didn't tell you what I felt, I would probably explode! If you don't feel the same way, I can walk away and pretend this never happened," I said sadly. Thomas was just staring.

I started to walk away but Thomas didn't let go of my hand. "Oh im not going to let you slip away that easy! You have no idea how long I've wanted to do that!" He said and kissed me. It was shorter than before but it felt amazing.

"I came today to confess that I love you, but it hurt everytime you mentioned Benjamin or everytime I saw you with him," Thomas said. I could hear the truthfulness in his voice. He actually did love me.

"Oh which reminds me. Hang on," I walked towards Benjamin who wasn't standing so far. "Sorry, I just... I know that you like me but I love him and..."

"You don't need to say anything more. If you're happy then I'm happy! Anyways, Thomas seems like a really nice person. He really loves you," Ben smiled. I smiled back, "You're such an amazing guy and friend. But I think between us, the maximum would be friendship. You're so good looking! You'll get someone who's better than me!"

He chuckled and I kissed his cheek. I walked back to Thomas and waved bye to Ben. Thomas opened the passenger door for me and I sat. I was shivering like hell!

Tommy switched on the heater. "What just happened?" I was actually really confused. "Well, we both confessed our love for each other, If that's what you mean!"

"So what now?" I asked. "First, we have to get dried. Then we can decide what to do," Thomas replied.

"Here you go, Tommy," I said as I gave him a towel. He was looking at me intently. I started to feel weird. "What's wrong? Is there something in my face?" I asked as I felt around my face. "You're so beautiful. I couldn't say it before... It would be so weird. You're amazing," Thomas replied. I could feel myself blush so I looked away.

We walked towards his car and sat inside. "So what do you want to do?" Thomas asked as he started the car. "Well, I've actually got an idea! Its called 'Penny Date'."

I took a coin from my purse and continued explaining, "We just need a coin. First, you choose a number between 10 and 20. This would be how many times we flip the coin. Then, we start driving! Heads is right, tails is left. Everytime we stop at a junction, we flip the coin. When we reach the number we chose for flipping, we stop and that's where we hang out!"

Thomas was deep in thought for a few moments but then he smiled and agreed to do it. He chose the number 15. With that he drove off, both of us anxiously waiting for the next junction.

********

"You never told me who Benjamin is. Who is he? How do you know him?" Thomas asked as we drove. I thought for a moment then answered.

"Well, we've both known each other since we were kids. My mom and his mom have this dream of us having a relationship and getting married. They think that we're some match made in heaven. I don't know if they still have the same thoughts. I hope not!"

"Its not like I despise Ben. We have been the best of friends since forever but nothing more than that. But our moms disagree. Ben is really the example of 'a perfect guy' but I never clicked with him when it comes to love. Different people like different people. What can you do?"

Thomas held my hand and smiled. God, he's so adorable sometimes. Correction: All the time! I just want to kiss him right now.

********

"Okay, 14 times down and last one to go!" I said excitedly. We were quite far from home, not knowing where we were or where we'd end up. The signal was red and I flipped the coin. I caught it and it ended up being... Tails!

"Left it is!" Thomas said as he turned left. It was almost evening, the sun was almost setting. The weather was amazing. It was so amazing that Thomas had converted the roof.

We reached a dead end after about 5 minutes of driving. The road ended at some sort of cliff, deep in some woods. It was kind of spooky with the shadowy figures and owls hooting.

I heard howling as I got out of the car and held Thomas' hand in fright. We slowly walked towards the end of the cliff. It wasn't such a long drop. The cliff was more like a hill.

We stood there enjoying the cool breeze. I closed my eyes and took a deep breath. It was nice to get away from the pulluted environment that I live in.

Something phenomenal started to happen. The sun started to set, which is quite normal but it was beautiful. Red, pink, orange, yellow and blue all mixed together to create a magnificent spectrum.

I was amazed at the sight, I could see Thomas looking at me from the corner of my eye. "Why are you looking at me like that?" I couldn't stop smiling. "You're amazing, Ellie. I hope you know that," he stepped closer then kissed me on my lips.

It was perfect! The weather was perfect, the sun was setting, I was here with Thomas. Everything was flawless! I had Thomas all to myself. Well... I don't know.

I pulled away to catch a breath. "What are we Tommy? What would people call us?" I asked, breathless. "Well, 'people' don't know yet so they wouldn't say anything. Let's take it slow and enjoy every moment. At least I want to," he smirked and then he kissed me again. God, he's so... Uggghhh!

*******

"Ellie? Ellie? Wake up, we're home. Well, you're home."

"What... What... Happened?" I rubbed my eyes as I sat up straight. I was sitting in Thomas' car. Thomas smiled, "You slept on the way back. You're home now, we're d outside your building."

I looked outside the window and saw... Well, my building. I stretched and rubbed my eyes a bit more so that I'd become a bit fresh. I grabbed my bag, "I should be going. Thanks Tommy for today. It was brilliant!" I kissed him on his cheek and I could see a faint glow of pink.

I opened the door and walked out. Thomas waved from inside till he drove off into the darkness. I sighed as I walked up to my flat.

Today has been... So eventful. I can't out into words how amazing its been. A dream come true, really! The guy I love, I've fangirled about, actually loves me. What could be better?
