LILY WOULD'VE LOVED to root on her friends for phase two of the triwizard tournament, however, the little girl was a bit preoccupied, as snape was currently not in the condition to go out.

"it's okay papa, you're going to feel better soon", lily comforted as snape just slowly nodded his head.

lily made sure that the moist towel on top of snape's forehead was warm and not too hot or too cold. she also made sure that water was nearby with a few pieces of honeydukes best chocolate.

sure wizards were capable people, but that didn't mean that they didn't get sick.

"sleep well papa, I'm gonna go make you some chicken soup", lily whispered as she tip-toed out of their shared chamber.

lily walked around school grounds as she wondered where she would even find a chicken.

she had no idea how to make chicken soup either. the girl had always assumed that it'd be pretty easy if you just cut up a chicken and throw it in boiling water, but she supposed that that wasn't the case, since apparently there's a thing called flavoring.

lily then stumbled upon a little hut that was built near the forbidden forest.

she knew she wasn't supposed to enter the forest, as her father had instructed her so, but she couldn't help but curiously inch closer to it.

"who are yeh an' wha' are yeh doin' here?", a gruffly voice suddenly asked, making lily nearly fall onto her bum as she turned around.

"u-um I'm sorry sir!! my name's lily phoebe snape and I was looking for chickens....", lily meekly replied, clearly intimidated by the half-giant's tall stature.

"chickens? well wha' d'you need chickens fer? an' I didn't know snape had a daughter....".

"I-I'm sorry sir! my papa's sick and I wanted to make some chicken soup for him, but I didn't know where to find the chickens and I just stumbled upon here and—"

"it's alright kid. I was jus wondering. no need ter tell me your whole life story", the half-giant chuckled.

"I'm rubeus hagrid by the way. I can help you catch some chickens if you'd like", hagrid smiled, making the girl eagerly nod.

"yes please!! I'd very much appreciate it hagrid!!"

hagrid laughed as he immediately grabbed a pot, some rope, and a small bowl of corn.

"dazzle this in a line an' we'll set up a trap ter catch 'em", hagrid instructed as he handed lily the bowl of corn.

"okay!!"

lily did as told as she sprinkled the corn into a very shaky line that led to the pot that hagrid had set up with a random stick.

the rope was tied to one of the handles of the pot.

hagrid and lily hid behind a bush—despite hagrid's size—and patiently waited for a chicken to start eating the corn.

what they didn't predict, was a whole bunch of chickens scrabbling around and eating all the corn.

hagrid pulled on the rope to only catch no chicken.

lily ran out of the bush, scaring all the chickens before she could even catch them. she chased after them for a good five minutes with hagrid yelling behind her.

"BE CAREFUL!!", hagrid warned as he tried catching up.

lily then tripped as she fell onto her arms and knees, perfectly shading her face from getting scratched by the gravely ground.

"merlin!! can yeh stand up??", hagrid asked as he kneeled down next to the little girl.

lily was about to cry until she remembered that snape was still waiting on her chicken soup.

"I-I'm okay", lily mumbled, standing up and brushing off the dirt that was caught on her dress.

"come on. lemme get yeh patched up. I bet the kitchen has some leftovers tha' yeh can prob'ly use", hagrid said as he carried the girl back to his hut.

lily thanked the giant as she winced every time he applied some medicine to her knees and scratched up arms.

"thank you hagrid!!"

"no problem kid! come visit anytime", hagrid smiled as he watched the little girl slightly limp off into the distance.

hagrid chuckled to himself as he glanced over at the few pieces of honeydukes best chocolate that was secretly placed on the table.

"wha' a sweet kid".

lily carefully carried the tray with a piping hot bowl of vegetable soup into hers and snape's shared chamber.

she placed the tray on the nightstand as she took the towel off snape's forehead and checked on his temperature by placing the back of her hand against the man's forehead.

snape's fever was slowly going down, but still somewhat warm.

lily gently nudged snape's shoulder as she dragged a chair across the carpet floor so that she could sit by his bedside.

"papa, wakey wakey. I made you umm...some veggie soup. you'll feel a bit better after you ingest something", lily cooed as snape slowly stirred awake.

the man's eyes fluttered open, turning his head sideways to see the bright smile of his daughter that he was still not totally used to.

"phoebe...".

lily helped snape sit up as she took the bowl and handed it to snape. she would've offered to feed him, but she knew he would've wanted to do it himself.

"did you make this?", snape asked as he took a sip.

"mhm! well...I had the kitchen elves help me cut the vegetables...and boil the water...and stir the pot...and help me put it in the bowl....but I watched and observed!! and I picked out the veggies!!", lily quickly said.

snape gave a ghost of a smile as he continued eating the veggies that were inside the soup.

lily then took a book off the shelf that she had always caught snape reading and opened it up to where he had bookmarked it.

"rome and jewels", lily read the cover of the book, making snape raise a brow.

"it's romeo and juliet", the sick man corrected, making lily awkwardly chuckle.

lily then cleared her throat as she tried to be as professional as possible.

"'tis but thy name that is my enemy...".

lily cocked her head to the side as she had wondered what in merlin had she just read. but nevertheless, the girl continued onward.

"thou art thyself, though not a montague. what's a montague?", lily asked.

"romeo's last name".

"oh ok. umm...what's montague? it is
nor hand, nor foot,
nor arm, nor face, nor
any other part
belonging to man. o,
be some other name!"

lily was even more confused now. why would a name be a face or a hand? she thought that that itself would be quite obvious.

"what's in a name? that
which we call a rose
by any other name
would smell as sweet".

lily looked up at snape, who had seemed a little too engrossed in the story that she had no idea what was going on about.

"so...why's his name so important?", lily asked.

"montague and capulet—juliet's last name—have a long line of family feuds. though they love each other, they cannot be together. the two lovers question why a mere name should be keeping them apart. just because of the past, it doesn't mean it should brew into the new generations", snape answered.

lily wanted to ask snape another question, but wasn't sure whether he'd be okay with answering it or not.

"is something of matters?", snape asked, seemingly to have caught the little girl's glance.

"u-umm...have you...ever experienced that before?", lily hesitantly asked.

"well I'm very much alive aren't I?", snape immediately answered.

'but perhaps you died a little inside', was what lily had wanted to say, but the girl decided to keep her mouth shut.

"yes, and I'm very thankful for you being alive", lily smiled as she waddled towards snape and crawled into his lap.

there were minimal times that severus snape would allow lily to sleep on his lap, but this was one of the few times that he believed that it was okay.

lily wrapped her short arms around snape's waist as she closed her eyes, feeling snape's hand gently pat her head.

"indeed, I'm very much alive".
