TIM DRAKE'S COMPLETED PROFILE
by icecoffeeluver

childhood & adolescence

Let's begin with speaking about Tim's neglectful childhood and his relationships with parent-like figures.

jack and janet drake

Tim's relationship with Jack and Janet Drake isn't the best. They were not the best parents but they also could have been worse. They were inattentive and neglectful towards Tim. In some versions Jack could be abusive, and Janet was more manipulative.

However, to get his parents to notice him and pay more attention to him, Tim had to prove his worth. He mostly proved it by his intelligence, over achieving in school. This causes many more complications in the future which I'll get more into momentarily.

Tim experienced emotional neglect which can be defined as an individual's affectional needs are consistently disregarded, ignored, invalidated, or unappreciated by a significant other.

Jack and Janet always disregarded Tim's needs growing up making him experience this type of neglect. This is one of the main reasons as to why Tim shows symptoms of depression, emotional neglect causes depression, low self-esteem, anxiety, abandonment issues, sleep difficulties etc. I'll get more into this later.

Tim had to parent himself for his whole childhood. He thought of himself as a certified adult at the age of eight. He would take care of himself if he was sick, attempted to feed himself etc. he had to adapt to new environments without anyone there to support or reassure him. He's a parentified kid.

Being an only child meant he couldn't allow himself to rely on others, causing trust issues to form as well as loneliness. His only interactions were with the housekeeper that came around once a week. That is until he met Bruce.

bruce and tim

Now exploring Tim's relationship with Bruce. Tim forces his way into Bruce's life, forcing Bruce to let him become Robin. Bruce is pretty adamant that he doesn't want another Robin but eventually allows Tim to become Robin.

During Tim's time as Robin at the beginning Bruce gives him harsher treatment out of anger and grief. Batman was being harsher to criminals, almost going against his no killing role.

This caused Tim to reverse roles with Bruce, instead of Bruce taking care of Tim, Tim took care of Bruce. Going back to his old state of mind when he parents himself. He's left to deal with not only his own consequences but Bruce's as well.

This causes a lot of stress on the mind which allows itself to mature faster, similar to what I said about Jason in his profile. When Bruce realizes what's going on and starts treating Tim more like a child it confuses Tim considering he isn't one. He's an adult, so why isn't Bruce treating him like an adult?

This causes Tim to have difficulties learning to distinguish his own needs and feelings from those of other people. Which can cause troubles with emotional regulation and difficulties maintaining relationships. Which leads us into the next section of this analysis.

mental illness i think tim has or had

Bipolar Disorder (bd) with mixed features and rapid cycling

Tim experiences depression and possibly mania which leads me to this thought that he may be bipolar.

Let's start with the depression symptoms. He shows signs of being suicidal, low energy, low self-esteem etc. we all know he's depressed.

Whereas for mania he stays up for days at a time solving unsolvable cold cases, he can be impulsive, doesn't care whether he lives or dies, taking unnecessary hits, he's hyperactive, speaks fast, full of new/great ideas etc.

These all point towards mania or hypomania. Mania is when a period of abnormally elevated, extreme changes in your mood or emotions, energy level or activity level. All of which are noticeable to others, so they notice the change of mood.

Rapid cycling is when it can last from a couple weeks all to an hour. So it cycles between mania and depression sometimes with mixed features. Meaning depression and mania mix together.

CPTSD

Complex post traumatic stress disorder, that started with early childhood neglect. Cptsd is diagnosed when a series of traumatic events occurred in someone's life.

For example Tim would have been diagnosed with ptsd as a child due to neglect but then he would have been diagnosed as a teenager with cptsd due to Jason's attempt on his life and all the traumatic events that follows.

Borderline Personality Disorder (bpd)

Tim shows traits of bpd, he's seventeen meaning if he did have bpd he wouldn't be able to be diagnosed till he's eighteen therefore i'm saying he has traits of bpd.

The main symptoms Tim shows signs of having are feelings of emptiness, unstable relationships, abandonment issues, and problems regulating emotions.

The intense feeling of emptiness could be his depression but that goes along side his low self-esteem and suicidal thoughts and actions.

He has a bunch of unstable relationships, for example his relationship with Dick. he once looked up to Dick then when he didn't believe Tim about Bruce being alive all that admiration switched to hatred. In bpd that would be called splitting, where you like someone but when they do one wrong thing it turns to hate. There's no in between.

I can't say that's exactly what happened since in most versions Tim is seventeen. This ties into his abandonment issues, where it feels like someone's abandoning him he would act out like this.

I feel as if Tim doesn't express his emotions often; it's more internal. Which would lead us to believe it's quiet bpd he's showing traits of.

Where most of his struggles are internal, making him seen as a highly functional member of society.

things tim suffers from (not mental illnesses)

Self Worth

Tim doesn't have a lot of self worth, he thinks he's easily replaceable. That makes him more understanding of Jason's situation allowing Tim to not hold a grudge against him.

Internalized Homophobia

I feel like Jack wasn't the most supportive when it comes to the LGBTQIA+ community. Which would probably cause some internalized homophobia to form in Tim out of fear.

Paranoia

Tim definitely takes after Bruce with paranoia. Plus after his interactions with Ra's in Red Robin he has a right to.

personality

Tim Drake has an INTP personality type, it's the Logistician.

Google's definitely of the personality type is "The INTP type describes a person who is energized by time alone (Introverted), who focuses on ideas and concepts rather than facts and details (iNtuitive), who makes decisions based on logic and reason (Thinking) and who prefers to be spontaneous and flexible rather than planned and organized (Perceiving)."

To me Tim fits the description, with his refusal to be normal and his thirst for knowledge, improving in all areas of his life. He is very intelligent and a great analyst, with a great imagination.

However, he is a workaholic and has some self-confidence / self-esteem issues. He works his hardest to prove his own worth, which ends up making him a workaholic.

platonic family relationships

Bruce and Tim

They have a rocky relationship. Tim blackmailed and forced his way to become Robin, receiving harsh treatments in return. Tim had to work hard to prove he's worth it, prove that he's worthy enough to be Robin.

Whereas Bruce slowly began to admire Tim's intelligence and grew to love him like a son.

Dick and Tim

In the beginning Dick was a great brother to Tim until Damian came into the picture. Once Damian arrived their relationship began kind of non-existent. They started to communicate less and less and the final straw was when Bruce was presumed dead.

When Tim knew Bruce was still alive and nobody would listen to him. Dick thought he was crazy and took away Robin, giving the title to Damian, which permanently damaged Dick's and Tim's relationship.

Jason and Tim

Tim grew up admiring Jason. He was his hero, he loved Robin. Then Robin died and the next time Tim saw Jason he almost killed him in the Titan's tower.

He was hostile towards Robin many times after that but it was due to the Lazarus and manipulation Jason went through caused by Talia and Ra's.

I personally don't think Tim really held a grudge against him, he was more apprehensive towards Jason but never fully hated him for it.

I see Jason and Tim having the best relationship out of Tim's relationships with Dick, Damian, and Bruce.

Damian and Tim

Damian and Tim don't get along, that's common knowledge. I think they don't get along because of Damian's past in the League.

Where Damian learned about the importance of ranks and roles people play so when he comes to Gotham, Tim is Robin, the next in line to being Batman. Or so Damian thought.

So he tries to assassinate Tim so he has a chance at a future as Batman to make his mother, Talia, and grandfather, Ra's, happy.

This causes Tim to become apprehensive around him. Fearing that he might die if Damian keeps trying to kill him. Everyone pushes all these attempts at Tim's life aside, assuming it won't happen again.

This causes Tim's relationships to be damaged, especially his and Dick's. I'll go more in depth with this in Damian's profile!

my observations / headcanons

Has a playlist for everything, you name it he has a playlist for it.

Is in denial about his issues, he knows he has some sort of mental health problem but just won't admit it to himself or anyone else. He plays it off as if it's a normal thing even though he a hundred percent knows it's not normal.

Avoids most of his problems instead of facing them head on.

Has a bunch of photo albums, one dedicated to each person in his family but would rather die than show them it.

Has the most convincing fake tears out of the entire family, Stephanie has the second most convincing fake tears.

Tim patrols the most with Jason or Steph

Tim looks up to Jason

When Steph isn't helpful or he needs a second opinion. He'll go to Jason for help.

Tim would either be the best monopoly player or the worst

Steph is Tim's go to partner, especially in Just Dance.

𝓽𝓲𝓶 𝓭𝓻𝓪𝓴𝓮'𝓼 𝓹𝓻𝓸𝓯𝓲𝓵𝓮

i hope you all enjoyed, it's a bit shorter than Jason's profile so i may add on to it in the future
