PARENT'S AIRBNB
cancún, mexico
october 21, 2024
tuesday
10:30am

i woke feeling hazy and disoriented, my head pounding slightly from last night. i opened my eyes and looked around the room, my vision was slightly blurry but i knew right away i was at my parents' airbnb.

as my senses slowly returned, the faint sound of laughter could be heard coming from downstairs, and the sweet smell of food wafted through the air. slowly i sat up in bed.

i tried to make sense of the memories from the night before, but my brain still felt like mush. i slowly stood up and looked at myself in the mirror. my brown hair was a tangled mess and the makeup from last night was slightly smeared in certain places. i didn't remember putting on pajamas, but then i realized it was one of my mom's favorites.

i looked down at it, it was oversized and covered in flowers. i then looked back at the mirror and winced at my reflection. i knew i looked a mess. i groaned softly to myself before walking towards the door.

as i walked into the hallway, the sound of laughter got increasingly louder, and i knew that nick was most likely there. i then slowly made my way down the set of stairs and i could hear him and my parents conversing.

i got to the bottom of the stairs and i turned the corner, there i saw them in the dining room. nick, mom, and dad. nick was completely engaged in the story my dad was telling and my mom was looking at nick with a fondness in her eyes.

"good morning, sleepyhead." my mom said, spotting me standing awkwardly in the archway. nick turned his head and looked at me with a smile. his face was clean shaven and he looked much more presentable than i felt.

i felt utterly embarrassed as nick and my parents looked at me. i looked a complete mess and here nick was looking like he had just taken a shower. i shuffled awkwardly as they stared me down.

"nice pajamas." my dad said jokingly. i had completely forgotten what i was wearing. i tried my best to smile.

as nick watched me continue to stand awkwardly at the archway. he chuckled faintly to himself. it was quite comical watching me look like a mess and look like i just woke up while he looked very presentable.

"sleep well?" he asked jokingly. a smirk was visible on his face.

my parents were still looking at me intently, my dad wore an amused expression. my mom on the other hand, had a more serious expression. she was silently judging my state.

i looked at nick and rolled my eyes jokingly, before sitting down on the empty chair between nick and my mother.

"what's on the agenda for you kids today?" my dad asked. the question was directed at nick and i.

i shifted my gaze between my dad and nick, waiting for him to respond. nick shrugged in response to the question. "i don't know." he said, his voice was casual and laid back.

my dad chuckled as he looked at him. "no plans?" he asked, his tone was a mixture of amusement and curiosity.

"lots of sleep hopefully." i said as i leaned my head on nick's shoulder.

nick glanced down at me and chuckled faintly. his shoulder was firm and comfortable, but he still made the gesture of wrapping his arm around my waist.

my dad chuckled once more as he watched us interact. "sleep sounds nice." he said in agreement.

my mom hummed slightly in agreement. her gaze drifted from me to nick. she stared intently at nick, her eyes lingering on his arm that was wrapped around my waist. her expression hadn't changed.

"back at our airbnb preferably." i said as i stood up.

just as i was about to leave, my mom suddenly cleared her throat. "actually lucky, sit down please." she demanded. i paused in my steps and looked at her.

i felt my stomach knot up as i heard my mom's tone. i knew whatever she was going to say wasn't going to be good. i slowly sat back down, shifting my gaze towards her. nick remained sitting next to me, his arm still wrapped around my waist.

my mom studied me silently for a few moments before finally speaking. "let's talk." she said, the tone in her voice was stern.

i swallowed hard. i knew this talk wouldn't go well.

"did you forget that you two snuck into my party last night in hopes of stealing food and beverages? honey, you didn't even once tell me about this vacation." my mom said sternly.

i winced slightly, guilt filling me up as she spoke. she did make a good point, i should've told her about the vacation.

"mom-" i tried to say something, but my mom cut me off by waving her hand.

"i'm not finished." she said. her eyes were narrowed slightly. i immediately went silent and nick's grip on my waist loosened a bit. she stared at me for moment before continuing to speak. "do you know how embarrassing the whole reagan debacle."

"reagan is old news. i have a new and improved manager, cindy." i said with a nod.

my dad chuckled faintly in the background as he listened to my words. my mom, however, still kept her serious expression. "it doesn't matter if it's old news. you got completely destroyed by the media!" she said, her voice was harsh.

"but after vogue vouched for me they're all on my side again!" i exclaimed.

nick chuckled faintly beneath his breath, he was clearly amused by the interaction. my mom's gaze shifted to nick briefly, and she shot him a quick glare before turning back to me. "it doesn't matter what vogue says! i'm still concerned about you and your career!" she protested.

i opened my mouth again, preparing to argue, but nick cut me off. "she's fine." he stated, his voice was firm and calm. i was slightly shocked that he spoke. i expected him to just stand there silently and watch this whole interaction take place.

my mom's attention immediately shifted to him. she stared at him intently as if silently expecting him to say more.

"it's true! i'm fine, i'm taking a teeny tiny break from the media for this week and when i get back... no one will remember reagan." i explained.

my mom's expression softened a bit upon hearing my words, but it still held some skepticism. she looked between nick and i silently for a second, as if she was thinking. "promise?" she asked, her voice was still stern, but i could detect a hint of hope.

i nodded confidently and gave my mom a slight smile. "promise." i said. nick chuckled softly at my words and gave my waist a slight squeeze.

my mom looked at me closely, as if she was trying to figure if i was lying or not. after what felt like an eternity, she let out a sigh. "okay." she said finally.

"now can we go back to our home for a real good nap?" i asked my mom's permission jokingly.

she shot me a look, but i could see a hint of amusement in her eyes. "yes, both of you go. you look like a mess..." she said, a small chuckle escaped her lips.

i couldn't help but smile. "thanks for hosting us."

"just sleep... no more parties tonight." my dad said jokingly from the other side of the table. my mom rolled her eyes at his words, amused.

i chuckled in response and stood up. nick stood up beside me. "we'll see!" he joked as we began to walk away. he followed close behind me, his arm still around my waist.

NICOLETTA RESTARAUNT
cancún, mexico
7:15pm

nick and i slept on and off throughout the whole day. the time difference caught up to us and it was like our bodies were begging for rest. when we finally awakened from our naps, it was finally time for a dinner date at a nearby italian restaurant. the sun was setting and the sky was painted with a beautiful orange hue.

when we arrived at the restaurant, the outdoor ambiance was cozy and romantic. soft music was being played in the background, the sound of waves crashing faintly in tandem. the hostess immediately greeted us and led us to our table.

we thanked her and took our seats, looking around the restaurant as we did. it was lively and crowded. various couples, groups of friends, and families occupied the other tables and the bar. the restaurant itself was elegant, the walls were painted a soft ivory color and the table cloths were a dark maroon.

nick and i ended up talking and laughing with each other throughout the whole meal. we ate our pasta and shared a bottle of white wine as we reminisced about our childhoods and what the future held.

after our meal, we walked out of the restaurant hand in hand. the sounds of crickets echoed through the air and the stars were illuminated with the backdrop of the night sky. we stopped to admire the view.

i stood next to nick, leaning my head against his shoulder. i felt a sense of contentment sweep over me as i inhaled the fresh night air. i suddenly felt his arm wrap around my waist and he pulled me closer to him.

"having a good time?" he asked jokingly. his voice was soft, blending in with the night air. i turned my head to look at him and was met by deep, brown eyes that were staring right back at me.

our faces were close together and i could feel his warm breath. i chuckled softly. "the best time." i replied.

nick's hold on my waist tightened slightly as he pulled me closer to him. i felt my body press up against his. he looked down at me intently for a moment before slowly bending down and closing the distance between our lips. our lips connected and i felt a wave of electricity course through my body.
