Sometimes the wisest comment is silence. Following your own advice is surely the best advice.

Many a person is unteachable; immune to what they are advised and unable let alone capable of believing, listening to or accepting strange words. These simply bounce off them as if they were drops of water on a window pane.

"Why is it that people of all people have to give advice that their own would never take," James posed the question, causing you to grin, "Am I amusing you?"

"Quite," you replied good-humoredly, taking a sip from your wine glass, "Perhaps it's just the nature of the thing.... or that, of man. I like to pass on good advice, otherwise there's nothing you can do with it."

"Also an interesting way to explain this," James countered, but you raised your hand to call a waiter because you wanted to pay, "I guess you don't like my presence. Or why do you want to leave already? I thought we'd spend the rest of the evening together."

Another time. Possibly. But not at all today.
