One thing stood out, although it was not unusual. Yet it was not as usual. Some things stood out, whether consciously or not.

For almost two weeks now, Harper had encountered two cars on her daily morning round with Jill. Either they were being overtaken by Olivia, who was out alone with her daughter or Asher to see his animals, or the white car was already on its way back. In the evening, when they went out with Jill for the last time, it was similar. Either way, she had seen the white one a lot lately. It was the same with the gray oldtimer. Either Marcus drove past her in the morning, alone or with Asher, or came to meet her. Or on her last round. It was either a white or a gray car where she stopped, raised her hand, and didn't continue with Jill until it was gone.

Normally this would have been the case in the summer months, not when summer was long gone.

Creepy. Just creepy that Harper noticed and 'thought' about such things. As if she had no life.

Harper stopped in front of the curve because she saw that two cars were coming and she didn't want to get hit. And to be honest, only complete idiots stop at a curve.

It wasn't just two cars, a few seconds after the second car came a third and Harper raised her hand at the number. There had to be another road closed somewhere, otherwise there wouldn't be so many cars on the road this morning.

Harper didn't notice the old car had stopped and turned on its blinker until he walked on and almost passed it.

"What did I do?" Harper shook her head when she saw that it was Marcus and that the driver's side window was open.

"What are you doing tomorrow night?" Marcus ignored Harper's words to herself, but the brunette gave a barely noticeable shrug, for what could it be, and just pointed her index finger at the dog next to her, "Come on, really? An hour or two, right?"

"Um, why? ....," but Harper interrupted herself the next moment and pointed to the right, up the road, "There's a car coming."

Which meant keep driving, so Harper kept driving, not knowing if Marcus was going to say anything else or not.

Harper did know one thing, though. If there were no cars coming, Marcus would have asked if she had a life.

But Harper's life was work and Jill. Which meant she had 'no' life.
