If there was one thing you could say about the weather forecast, it didn't come true at all. Like so many times lately. Bright sunshine instead of the predicted rain, so Jill lay outside on the grass, watched people walk and drive by, and just enjoyed lying in the warmth.
During this time, Harper was able to tidy up properly without a small, annoying dog in the way or running around at her feet. All the dog blankets went in the washing machine, the baskets were cleaned and laid out in the sun to dry, the carpets outside were beaten out and the apartment was wiped down. Nothing more. It was the weekend.
"Finally," Isabelle raised her hand as Harper glanced at the fence over the sound of a dog barking, "aren't you watching what she's doing outside?"
"People watching," Harper just shrugged, "Five minutes. You weren't here five minutes ago, plus I can see her from over there. It's all good."
"At least something," Isabelle chuckled, nodding and stroking her dog's neck as it began to whine impatiently and watch Jill incessantly, "Think about it later, yeah."
"I don't even know what it's about," Harper replied, going over to the gate Isabelle had passed and opening it because she just felt sorry for Koda, "What's after?"
Nothing special or big, just the end of summer. The meteorological summer anyway. A little barbecue with people Harper knew, according to Isabelle, at least by sight, or at least by saying hello.
In the last few years with Jill and the resulting conversations and encounters, there have been quite a few acquaintances. You get to know someone and through that person you get to know someone again, or someone gets to know someone new through your own acquaintances. Either way, you get to know a lot of people, whether you want to or not.
The smaller the town, the more gossip. And not, as many believe, that there was a better community. That was certainly not the case.
