042; LEFT AT THE ALTER OF FRIENDSHIP
! BAD GIRLS ! BAD GIRLS !
( a sex and the city fic )
A HOME
the hamptons, new york
bobby fine, satellite friend and a piano bar legend invited the girls and i to attend his wedding in the hamptons. he would be marrying, bitsy. a woman.
the girls and i trickled into the home where a pool party would be held the day before the wedding. "i can't believe this, i mean. i thought he was gay." charlotte admitted.
"me too! and a wedding to a female no less! he's the most effeminate guy that i know!" miranda exclaimed.
carrie huffed in annoyance. "oh, me too! how can he find someone who truly loves him and i can't?"
"still upset about berger?" samantha suggested.
"hardly." carrie lied. "i saw him, you know he's invited to the wedding."
"invited? wow." miranda said as she looked around the pool, spotting robert who was talking to holden.
"do you have a date?" i asked carrie who quickly nodded.
"yeah, he'll be here tomorrow. when the real party starts." she explained.
samantha scoffed as she looked at something, "if you'd excuse me." she said before stomping over to some teenage girls who were now fawning over smith.
"yikes, would not want to be them." i commented.
i looked over at my brother who was standing alone fostering a drink. "dakota looks so sad." i commented.
charlotte shook her head, "he's not. he's watching samantha yell at those girls." she pointed out. "see! he's laughing!"
"oh so he can laugh at two teenage girls getting chewed out but nothing i say?" carrie stated as she shook her head, studying dakota's expression.
miranda and i snorted in amusement as holden and dakota high-fived, still watching samantha chew the teenagers out.
"oh, to be a fly on the wall." miranda mumbled.
WEDDING CEREMONY
the hamptons, new york
4pm
sitting next to holden, miranda, samantha, charlotte and their partners i was completely focused on the ongoing ceremony.
"you walked in wearing that red vintage dior..." bobby said to bitsy.
"pink elephant in the room." miranda muttered as she bounced brady on her lap.
i laughed quietly before hearing stanford whisper in my ear, "would you mind? i'm listening to the bride and...the bride." he joked.
"my dear bobby fine," bitsy started to say.
"something tells me bitsy isn't doing fine." samantha muttered.
"how would you feel if you were marrying a gay man?" miranda retorted.
"you're there for me in the morning, in the night, in the good, in the bad. there in my thoughts. there in my dreams. but most of all my darling, you are there in my heart. forever." bitsy said, causing the girls and i to realize that the two couple had seemed to have found something real.
"i now pronounced you, bitsy and bobby husband and wife. you may now kiss the bride." the pastor instructed.
"wow," i said.
"hey, where's carrie?" miranda asked.
"she's sitting in the back with her date, they came a little late." charlotte answered.
the pastor then announced the new couple. "it gives me great pleasure to present to you, mr. and mrs. fine." he announced.
"aw" charlotte swooned as they watched the happy couple strut down the aisle.
OUTDOOR DINNER RECEPTION
the hamptons, new york
8pm
as holden and i shared a dance on the dance floor, i noticed carrie walking around alongside a man i recognized. calvin.
"calvin's her date?" i muttered.
"who's calvin?" holden replied as he kept his arms around me for our dance.
"well he's my friend but i hadn't realized him and carrie were close. at all." i explained as i watched the two approach a table that held some refreshments.
"they don't look very close." holden said as he followed my gaze. "she looks like her mind is completely set on something else." he said, noticing how carrie was looking around.
i nodded. "it does. she's definitely looking for something...or someone." i said quietly as i tore my eyes away from carrie and back onto holden.
"hmmm...care to make a wager on who she's looking for?" he teased as he pulled me closer, wrapping me up against him.
"no clue." i said honestly.
just then, carrie walked away from calvin heading over to berger. "she's on the move." holden said jokingly.
"and she's heading straight towards berger." i said with a hint of amusement as i watched the two walk away, leaving a lonely calvin.
"you should go talk to your friend." holden said. "i don't mind."
i nodded as holden released his grip on me. i headed over to calvin. "didn't expect to see you here," i said as i reached him.
calvin looked upset. "trust me, i didn't expect to even be here. your friend, carrie, asked me to be her plus one here. i came and this whole night she's been discarding me."
"discarding you? what do you mean?" i asked the agent.
he sighed. "i hate being used, jamie. and i'm pretty sure that's all i'm here for."
i frowned as i placed my hand on his arm. "i'm sorry, calvin. so do you think she's using you to try to get to berger's nerve or attention or something?"
he nodded. "seems like it." he mumbled. "all she's talked about all day is how berger ghosted her. i haven't heard a peep about her own damn book."
"that's not right." i said with a shake of my head. "i'm sorry, calvin. she's just upset at what berger did to her. she really liked that guy."
calvin nodded. "but i'm the one whose the rebound right now. i'm the one having her act like an entitled brat." he chuckled at the situation and placed his drink down, "i'm out."
i frowned as he walked away, leaving me alone by the drinks table. i was just about to grab a champagne flute when holden approached me.
he leaned against the table as he put his hands in his pockets, studying me. "everything okay?" he asked.
i sighed softly as i set my focus on him. "apparently, carrie has dragged my friend, the man you just saw leave, all the way out here to be her rebound guy." i said bluntly. "or to make berger jealous."
he nodded as he thought over what i said. "what a mess." he murmured quietly. "what's with her and that berger dude?"
"he broke up with her on a post-it, yet she still is going after him." i said with a sigh.
"that's a little sad." he commented. "why would she be so eager to be with someone who treated her so poorly."
i shrugged before i reached for a champagne flute.
as we continued to talk, i suddenly felt a hand on my shoulders. i turned around to see carrie with a wide-eyed look on her face.
"hi!" she said, a little loudly.
"jesus christ carrie.." i said as i shook my head.
carrie looked at me, her eyes wide with excitement, clearly a little tipsy. "can i interrupt for a second?" she asked.
holden was quiet behind me, watching the two of us. "i'm gonna go see little brady." he said before making his way over to robert, miranda and her child.
i glanced back, watching him go before turned my attention back to carrie. "what's up?" i said as she practically pulled me away from the table and over to a nearby railing.
"have you seen calvin?" she asked.
i shook my head, "my guess is that he got sick of being used. how could you bring my friend here and then treat him the way you did."
carrie immediately looked regretful. "i'm so sorry," she said. "i didn't mean to treat him that way, but god help me, berger is here tonight."
i shook my head, upset for my friend. "he's all you've talked about tonight. you've used my friend as a tool all night. he was trying to get to known you, but clearly he was a temporary distraction."
"look, i know i shouldn't have used him. but i needed a date for tonight and he happened to say yes, so what was i supposed to do?" she said, trying to defend her self.
"you knew you weren't going to give him a real chance! you were using him to try to lure in berger." i retorted, growing annoyed with carrie.
"wanna know something? it didn't work anyway!" carrie exclaimed.
i shook my head, clearly annoyed by carrie's behavior. "i don't have time for this." i mumbled as i left her standing by the railing.
