<Fast forward back to present>
Pulling on a weird mortal clothing item, which I believe they call T-shirts, I quietly follow the Roach.
He promised me that I could try to look for Jude.
It's been six months, Jude hasn't responded to any of my letters, frustrated as I am, I have to find her.
I hop onto my ragwort pony and take off.
"Roach, where does she live?" I ask over the wind.
"I believe she lives in a small rented flat, in the suburbs," he replies dryly.
My lips curl as I'm greeted with the scent of rotting rubbish in the streets.
I gag and and wheeze, unused to this kind of smells.
"This is where my wife lives?" I can't hide my horror, guilt tugging at my heart.
I cast her out of Elfhame for this?!
I shake my head and squeal as a rat scurries by my foot.
The Roach rolls his eyes and pushes me to the staircase.
"No security?" I ask, "I thought there would at least be some security.."
"No one knows where she currently living, this is just one of the possibilities," the Roach grins at the look of disbelief on my face.
"So we're going to be searching every flat in this city until we find her? When you guys could have done this during the past six months you choose to drag me along, and do it now??" I ask, turning pale.
"Yes," the Roach says simply.
Sixteen flat apartments later...
"Roach, please, no.. I can't dwell in this world of mortal filth any longer.. please.." I'm sweating and I'm practically dragging my limbs with me.
At the start of the search, I realised that a lot, and I mean A LOT, of ugly mortal girls goggling at me unashamedly. And now, I must look really bad, because I have no admirers left.
On top of that, the whole day has gone by and I missed my sleep. And in just a few hours, Nicasia will be "waking me up" for the Hunters Moon Revel tonight. I guess I'll have to miss it.
I scowl as the Roach nonchalantly continues walking, ignoring me.
"Last flat," he announces as we trudge up the last flight of stairs, I curse furiously, when I realise I stepped on a small cockroach; instead I imagine I stepped on the Roach. That gives me a burst of joy and energy.
But seriously, anything to get back Jude.
"Last door," the Roach says, and turns to knock.
I stare into space, feeling very bored...
When out of the corner of my eye, I see..
A beautiful girl with brown braided hair who's walking towards me, but who's not looking at me.
I peer closer and gasp, my head spinning with glee and fear.
Jude.
