Walking up to the "Help" booth, Rosemary sat down in the chair and place her elbow on the table as she leaned her cheek against the palm of her hand, her nails tapping against the wood.
'Are you two sure that you're going to be alright?',The Meif'wa asked, his tone full of concern.
With a small smile, Aphmau nodded and sent a small nod in Rosemary's direction.
'Yeah, there's only a few more hours of school and besides, I have Rosemary in case anything goes wrong',Aphmau stated,'I just.. need to avoid trouble. Again, thank you for your help'
A gentle look filled golden eyes as the Meif'wa slowly shook his head and turned his gaze towards the ground, a small smile tugging at his lips.
'No problem',He stated, a gentle laugh leaving his lips.
As he walked away from the two, eyes of amber watched as he left and turned back towards Rosemary.
But a sudden grip on her shoulders turned her around and a small gasp of shock left her lips, causing Rosemary to perk up and turn her head her way, a loud snarl leaving her lips as they turned upwards, her sharp canines on full display.
What she had seen though, caused her to pause in her tracks and her ears pulled back towards her head.
The Meif'wa was hugging her sister.
And Aphmau was blushing.
'By the way, my name is Kai'
Backing away from each other, the Meif'wa; otherwise known as Kai, began to walk away and a shocked look was on Aphmau's face as she watched him walked away.
'What was that about?',Aphmau questioned.
Turning around, a smile was on the boy's face and his feline-like canines shone in the light as he held up his phone for her to see.
'Oh yeah, you forgot to give me back my phone',Kai stated,'So I took it back just now! No worries!'
Looking down at her pockets, Aphmau began to wonder if he took that from her pocket but then realized that it was his phone and he had a right to take it back since she almost forgot.
But he could've just asked, he would've gotten attacked by Rosemary.
With a small groan, Aphmau started walking away from the field and Rosemary slowly stood from her seat, following after her sister.
🐾
Seeing that her sister wasn't beside her as usual, Aphmau looked around in a panic and seeing her standing under the small tree by the school, a small sigh of relief left her lips.
Confused by her actions, Aphmau slowly began to walk towards her and she wondered what was wrong, since they always walked out of school together.
'Hey..',Aphmau spoke up, causing her sister's vermilion eyes to turn her way and she watched as they darkened, a small burst of blue shooting across her irises in a wave of light,'What's wrong? You've never left me alone like that before, is everything okay?'
With a small sigh, Rosemary looked towards the ground and shrugged, slowly shaking her head.
She knew that her sister didn't understand and it wasn't her fault, but her actions still hurt.
"It's nothing.. it's just..",Rosemary muttered, before slowly looking up and connecting eyes with her sister,"If you don't want to be alpha, pass it onto someone else, don't just continue with the title if you won't take on the responsibility that comes with it. With your actions it's like.."
Trailing off, Rosemary looked away from her sister and looked towards the driveway of the school, watching everyone get in their parents cars and drive off.
"It's like you don't even care about us..",Rosemary admitted, letting her feelings about the matter pour out like a river.
And hearing this, a shocked look formed on Aphmau's face and she slowly let her sister's words sink in.
Rosemary was never one to share what she was feeling and hearing her say this made Aphmau realize something.
Her sister let her feelings for the werewolves show the way she did because she was a werewolf and what was happening affected her as well.
In Rosemary's eyes, her actions made her think that she didn't care about the werewolves and only cared about only wanting to do human things, wanting nothing to do with the werewolves.
And she understood why she thought that way.
It's because of what she said earlier and how she worded it.
'Rosemary, I—',Aphmau started to say.
Before her twin could even begin her sentence, the familiar scent of pine, leather and citrus filled her nose as the wind blew it her way and a voice filled her ears, causing the right one to twitch.
'Umm, excuse me?'
A small hum of curiosity left Aphmau's lips and the twins turned around, seeing the werewolf they were tutoring before.
'Oh.. it's you'
Walking towards them, he shifted in his spot as the beta's magma eyes locked onto him and he cleared his throat.
'I have a question',He said, reaching into his pocket and taking something out of it, holding it up for them to see,'Umm.. Is-.. Is this either of yours?'
Holding up the item, he watched as their eyes lit up and a bright smile formed on the raven-haired girl's face as she slowly stepped towards him.
'M-My phone!',Aphmau exclaimed and gently took it from his hand, a bright smile on her face,'Y-Yes, that's mine! Oh, thank you so much'
Looking towards the boy, eyes of amber watched as his face flushed and he cleared his throat, shifting in place.
'It's no problem',He stated,'I was trying to give it to you before, but.. you guys kind of left me behind'
Pulling her ears back flat against her head, an apologetic look formed on her face as the werewolf turned her way and eyes of steel and magma connected as one.
'You were?!',Aphmau questioned,'Why didn't you say so!?'
With an incredulous look forming on her face, eyes of vermilion snapped towards her sister and her mouth dropped in disbelief of what she was hearing.
She had walked away from both Rosemary and this werewolf as they tried to get her attention.
This was her own fault, not theirs.
'I tried',He stated and even looked towards Rosemary,'We tried. But, you wouldn't let either of us talk, so..'
A look of offense and anger formed on Aphmau's face and a loud scoff left her lips, as her lips turned down into a frown.
'Didn't let either of you talk?',Aphmau questioned,'I— We were mentoring you!'
With an aggravated sigh, Rosemary decided to speak up and without meaning to, her voice came out in a harsh tone.
"Aph, you kept walking away from us and even talked over the both of us whenever we tried to talk to you",Rosemary snapped, causing her sister to look towards her and step back slightly and seeing this, she slowly calmed down and let out a sigh,"You even ignored me and I know someone that can prove it"
Deciding to speak up, the werewolf said something that only made the matters worse and she slowly turned towards him.
'I know and I understand that you're bad at it',He stated,'Don't worry!'
'What!?'
'I mean, your temperament makes sense, since you are the alph-'
Hearing the growl that left the beta female, he slowly stepped back and felt his ears fall flat against his head.
And hearing what he was about to say, Aphmau quickly cut him off and a look of anger formed on her face.
'No, I'm not!',Aphmau exclaimed and completely forgot about her talk with Rosemary.
Hearing her say this made Rosemary's mood immediately drop and her thoughts from before came back, it was pretty clear with how her sister was acting.
'But, everyone said—',He started.
Just because she tried saying she cared, didn't mean she meant it and her actions clearly showed that she didn't.
'Listen, I—! ..Thank you for my phone',Aphmau sighed and slowly shook her head,'I appreciate it. Also, Rosemary and I are first time mentors'
'And you're bad at it!',The werewolf said and didn't direct his answer towards the beta since she actually tried to help him out,'It's okay'
A groan of frustration left Aphmau's lips and she shook her head.
'You're talking to the alpha that way!',Aphmau exclaimed.
A look of confusion formed on the werewolf's face and he slowly shook his head.
'I thought you said you weren't the alpha'
A groan of frustration left Aphmau's lips and she looked towards the werewolf with a look of annoyance and aggravation.
And now, it was clear to Rosemary that her sister didn't care about the status and only cared about it when she needed it.
'You're confusing me!',Aphmau exclaimed,'Stop it!'
Holding up his hand, a small smile formed on his face and his tail slowly began to sway quicker than before.
'I can pet you if that would help',He suggested.
Hearing this, a harsh growl left Rosemary's lips and the werewolf looked towards her, putting his hand down as his ears pulled back.
'No!',Aphmau exclaimed, stepping away from him.
Suddenly, a loud honk filled the air causing the twins to quickly turn their heads to the side and seeing their mother's car, Rosemary's ears perked up.
Rolling down the window, their mother; Sylvanna, looked towards her daughters and began to call out to them.
'Mi Hija's, vamonos!',She yelled out to the two,'It's—'
Cutting herself off, Sylvanna's eyes narrowed in on the boy beside them and a look of anger formed on her face as her breath deepened in aggravation, her body shaking.
'Wait!',She yelled and her voice became deeper,'Is that a boy!?'
With their eyes wide, Rosemary and Aphmau looked between the werewolf and their mother.
'Mom!',Aphmau called out and let out a groan, before going to speak up but she cut herself off as she watched Rosemary walk towards the car without her,'Huh?.. Rose?'
Stopping for a moment, Rosemary looked towards the ground and slowly shook her head, before walking towards her mother's car.
Opening the door, Rosemary sat down in the passengers seat and seeing the look on her daughters face caused Sylvanna to pause, a worried look forming on her face.
'Huh?',Sylvanna said and leaned forward, gently caressing her daughters cheek with the back of her finger,'What's wrong, Mi Hija?'
With a frown on her face, Rosemary slowly shook her head and felt her ears flatten down against her hair, causing her mother to become worried as a look of concern filled her eyes.
"..I.. I don't wanna talk about it",Rosemary muttered and kept her eyes on the ground,"Can we just.. can we just leave when Aphmau gets in the car? ..Please?"
Having never seen her daughter like this, Sylvanna began to worry, but nodded anyway and agreed with her as she looked up, waiting for her other daughter.
Walking towards the car after saying a few words to the werewolf beside her, Aphmau opened the door and hopped into the backseat, gently closing the door behind her.
Slowly pulling out of the school, Sylvanna kept glancing between the road and her daughter beside her, a small frown on her lips.
She wondered what was wrong.
🐾
As soon as they had gotten home, Rosemary rushed up to her room and ignored the calls of her worried mother.
Laying on her bed, Rosemary let out a small sigh as she stared up at the ceiling and turned around, hugging her plushie close to her body.
It was a wolf plush with brown fur and red eyes. Aaron had given it to her for her birthday and had told her that it reminded him of her.
And since he considered her a little sister, he just had to get it for her.
Hearing a gentle knock at her door, Rosemary glanced towards it and slowly sniffed the air, the strong scent of raspberries and vanilla filling her nose.
Letting out a small sigh, the beta turned her head away and looked up at the ceiling, holding the plush closer to her.
"Come in, mom"
The subtle creak of the door opening filled her ears as the right one twitched for a moment and peeking into the room, Sylvanna slowly stepped in, walking towards her daughters bed.
As she gently sat down, a silence filled the air and an awkward tension buzzed around the room, causing Rosemary to continue looking up at the ceiling.
'What's happened today, Mi Hija?', Sylvanna questioned, a worried tone in her voice,'I've never seen you like this before. You can talk to me, I'm sure that I'll understand what you're talking about'
With a small sigh, eyes of vermilion turned her mother's way and connected with that of mocha.
"It's just that.. something that Aphmau said today, kind of hurt",Rosemary admitted and watched her mother's face turn to that of curiosity,"I get that she doesn't understand werewolves that well, but she's the alpha female, she has been since freshman year and hearing the way she was talking about it today, just.. hurt. It hurt a lot"
With a small sigh, Sylvanna leaned forward and took her daughters hand in her own, her eyes gently gazing into her own.
'What did she say, Rosemary?',Sylvanna questioned, before leaning her head down to try and catch her daughters gaze, trying to make her smile,'Do I have to get the chancla?'
Hearing the small laugh that left her daughters lips, a smile slowly began to spread across Sylvanna's lips and she felt her heart grow warm at the sound of her daughter's laugh; happy to see her smiling.
Slowly, Rosemary shook her head and her laugh died down, her smile slowly fading.
"No, it's just that..",Rosemary started and took a deep breath, before letting out a sigh,"She said that she didn't want the responsibility as alpha and for a werewolf to hear that, it's just that—.. it's like her saying that she doesn't care about us"
Seeing her daughter's ears stay flat against her head and her tail staying on the bed, no longer swaying in the air, a small sigh left Sylvanna's lips and she moved closer, wrapping her arms around her daughter as she pulled her towards her, letting Rosemary's head rest on her shoulder.
'I'm sure that she didn't mean it like that, Rose',Sylvanna said, slowly petting her daughters head and she was very careful of her ears; knowing just how sensitive a werewolves ears and tail were,'But I understand where your thought process is coming from, for an alpha to reject their position and duties as the alpha is like they're rejecting their pack and rejecting the thought of them being their family'
Knowing that she was right as her daughters ears stayed flat against her head, Sylvanna gently began to scratch her scalp and she felt as Rosemary's tail began to gently thump against the mattress.
'But you have to understand that your sister's a human, Mi Hija',Sylvanna explained and felt as a small sigh left Rosemary's lips,'She doesn't understand the way it affects the werewolves when she's rejecting the status of your alpha female, I never taught her those things'
Looking towards the ground, a low grumble left Rosemary's lips and her teeth scrapped at her bottom lip as her tail continued to thump against the bed as her mother slowly scratched her head.
'But, I'll make sure to explain to her how those words affect you and the other werewolves of the school, okay?',Sylvanna questioned.
Letting out a low grumble, Rosemary continued to look towards the ground and slowly nodded her head.
With a small smile, Sylvanna stood up and leaned down, pressing a kiss to the crown of her daughter's head, causing a small smile to appear on Rosemary's face.
'Get some sleep, Mi Hija',Sylvanna suggested and watched as her daughter laid down, tucking herself under her covers,'I'll talk to your sister tomorrow before school, okay?'
With a small smile, Rosemary nodded her mother's way and as the lights switched off, a green haze lit up the room.
'Good night, Rosemary'
Snuggling into her pillow, Rosemary hugged the stuffed wolf close to her chest as her eyes slowly closed and her breathing began to even out.
Tomorrow would be a new day and Rosemary didn't know how she felt about having to face Aphmau tomorrow.
But like her mother said, she had to understand that her sister was just a human and didn't understand werewolves.
This was for another day though, for now, she felt herself slowly slip into sleep's warm embrace and her vision went black as sleep took over her mind.
