Running through the halls, the three finally came to a stop by the stairs beside the cafeteria and small pants escaped Aphmau's lips, glancing towards the entrance of the cafeteria to see if they were followed.
Having a lot more stamina than the girl, Rosemary and the Meif'wa beside her barely let out a huff of exhaustion as they breathed slowly and watched Aphmau from where they were, one making sure she was okay and the other just watching in curiosity.
Turning her head, Aphmau connected eyes with the boy and gave him a gentle smile, her eyes glistening.
'Thanks for that',She said, sighing softly.
With a small smile, the Meif'wa shook his head and shrugged softly, not seeing why she was thanking him.
Anyone would've done it.
'No problem'
Well, as far as he knew, but Rosemary knew that no one else would've helped them and she would've had to sit back as Aphmau was challenged, forced to go through with it.
A small chuckle left the Meif'wa's lips as he stared at Aphmau and this caused Rosemary's eyes to narrow as her lips pulled up, a low growl leaving her.
'You really have a knack for attracting trouble, don't you?',He questioned.
With a look of offense and a scoff of anger, Aphmau shook her head.
'That wasn't my fault!',Aphmau exclaimed,'She came to challenge me!'
A small hum of understanding left the Meif'wa and he slowly nodded his head.
'Ah, that's right',He stated in realization,'So is it true what she said, about you being the alpha? I never met a werewolf named Kitty.. let alone one being named Rosie'
"If you call me that one more time, I'll—"
With a growl of aggravation, Rosemary stepped forward and went to attack him, her eyes narrowed in anger but a gentle grasp fell upon her arm.
A soothing warmth spreading up her arm and through her body, causing the red that clouded her vision to slowly faded away and the blue that slowly began to seep into her vermilion eyes faded away as if it were never there to begin with.
'I'm not a werewolf and I don't want to talk about it',Aphmau snapped, pulling her twin closer to her side and felt her warmth radiate through her body,'Especially when we don't know you too well'
Seeing her point, the Meif'wa nodded in understanding and slightly rose his hands up in surrender.
'Fair enough',The sandstone eyed said,'I'm sorry I asked'
Shaking her head, Aphmau shrugged it off and gave the Meif'wa a small smile.
'Don't worry about it, it's not like you knew',Aphmau said, keeping her twin close,'Rosemary just gets.. defensive about this stuff as well. And thanks for helping us back there, she wasn't allowed to intervene'
'No problem at all'
Suddenly, a boy with a light complexion paired with navy blue eyes and royal blue hair walked up to the three and turned towards the Meif'wa, a small grin on his face.
'Hey buddy, having a hard time picking up the ladies~',He asked,'Why don't you—'
Finally turning his gaze towards the girl's, his eyes widened in shock and took a small step back as he blinked in shock.
'Aphmau!? Rosemary?!'
Ears perking up, a bright smile spread across her lips and her sharp canines softly dug into gentle skin of her pink lips, her tail wagging excitedly as she gazed at her friend.
The two hadn't seen each other since the end of freshman year and she was happy to see him again, but he was still the same flirt.
Rushing forward, Rosemary threw her arms around his waist; since he was much taller than she was, and felt as he wrapped his own arms around her, a small laugh filling her ears as they twitched at the sound.
'It's great to see you guys too',Dante stated, pulling away from Rosemary as she did the same and a nervous laugh escaped his lips as he looked towards the Meif'wa beside him,'Ughh.. forget what I said just now.. ehhaha..'
'What're you up to?',Aphmau questioned,'It's just the first day!'
Remembering just what he had said and deciding to let him know what she had thought, Rosemary lifting her hand and gently punched her friend in the arm; not adding to much strength since she knew she could break his bones.
A small inhalation of pain filled the air as Dante gently held his arm and rubbed his hand up and down, a small drop of sweat falling down the bridge of his temple.
'I deserved that..',Dante stated and then looked towards Aphmau,'Well.. you see—'
Suddenly, a loud and very familiar voice echoed through the halls, causing everyone to turn towards the sound.
'Get your dating guide books here!'
Sitting at a table was a boy with slightly wavy, white hair with bangs across his forehead, deep emerald green eyes, and flush peach skin.
He was wearing the normal school uniform for the boys and he was handing out books.
'Ughh.. I tried to start a dating club but the school wouldn't let that fly',Dante explained as they continued to look at what was occurring,'So, Travis and I decided to set up our own.. club booth inside. Where we.. wouldn't get in trouble'
Continuing to watch the scene unfold in front of them, Rosemary and Aphmau slowly turned towards one another, raising their eyebrows in unison.
Of course Dante would rope Travis into something like this.
'I see..',Aphmau said, before the twins cleared their throats,'Excuse us'
Walking away from the two, Aphmau and Rosemary started to walk towards the small booth.
"Not-alone buddy!"
Hearing very familiar voices, Travis looked up from what he was doing and once his emerald eyes locked onto the two girl's heading towards him, his eyes lit up like diamonds as a small gasp left his lips.
Standing up from his seat, the snowy-haired boy began to go towards them as well.
'Not-alone buddies!'
Encasing the two in a tight hug, Travis held his not-alone buddies close and small smiles coated the trios faces as they hugged each other tightly.
It was nice being together again.
"We haven't seen you all summer, Travis!",Rosemary exclaimed, her vermilion eyes gleaming,"We didn't know when we'd see you again!"
'How've you been!?'
With a small smile spreading across his lips, Travis shrugged his shoulders and shook his head as he looked down at the two.
'I've been great, I tried to call the two of you this morning, but neither of you answered',Travis stated.
With her eyebrows furrowed in confusion, Rosemary took her phone out of her pocket and tapped on the screen, causing the screen to light up.
Seeing that her phone was silenced and her notifications were turned off, Rosemary's ears pulled back as her cheeks lit up in embarrassment as she showed Travis her screen.
A small chuckle left his lips as he threw his arm over his friends shoulder and held her close, chuckling at the way she looked away from him in embarrassment, her arms crossed over her chest.
'That's okay, Rosemary'
A gasp filled the air, causing the two to look towards Aphmau as a look of despondency coated her face and her eyes filled with disheartenment.
'That's right, my phone!'
'Either way, I'm glad to see you two',Travis admitted.
Suddenly, someone shouted Travis's name, causing the three to turn towards the source and see Dante.
'Look alive! We've got lookers~'
Turning towards where he was pointing, three sets of eyes saw two girl's conversing near the booth and Travis looked towards his two not-alone buddies, an apologetic look in his eyes.
'Sorry, Aphmau. Sorry, Rose',Travis apologized and began to walk away from the two,'Gotta go!'
Walking away from the two, Travis walked towards the two girl's and Aphmau and Rosemary waved towards their friend, smiles on their faces.
'See you later, Travis!'
"You better stay out of trouble!"
Ears of amber, with a splash of snow, twitched slightly and a tail of a brown and midnight ombré swayed through the air.
Walking up to the two, the Meif'wa directed his stare towards the snowy-haired boy and the sea-haired boy, tilting his head, before looking down at the two girl's.
'Friends of yours?'
Nodding in agreement, Aphmau looked up at the Meif'wa and smiled brightly.
'Yeah, since freshman year!',Aphmau exclaimed,'But, Travis just reminded me.. my phone! It's been a few hours since I last checked.. ohh, but we have to get back since we're helping mentors..'
Remembering this, a small curse left Rosemary's lips from under her breath and she looked towards the ground.
If she just had the time, she'd be able to sniff out her sister's phone.
'Then mentor me'
Noises of shock left the twins lips and they turned towards the boy, looks of surprise covering their faces.
'Just say that your both mentoring me and I asked where the principals office was, that's where you lost your phone right?',He stated,'It's clear that you two work best together, so it would make sense for the both of you to mentor someone. If you say that you're both helping me, then neither of you can get in trouble for it'
With her lips parting in shock, Aphmau looked towards Rosemary and her twin nodded in agreement.
'That's a great idea',Aphmau stated and soon, a questioning look filled her eyes,'But.. are you sure?'
If they could go there without getting in trouble, then Rosemary can search for her sister's scent that was on the phone and since it was an older scent it would be a lot easier to pick up on.
'Positive',He answered,'Come on, let's go'
Letting out a shout of agreement, the two followed the boy down the hall and began their trek towards the principal's office.
🐾
Walking into the office, the three looked around and turned up empty handed.
But stepping out into the hallway, Rosemary sniffed around and the outer ring of her eyes turned a beautiful electric blue as a small, grey scent trail fluttered around the room; but there was another scent trail mixing in with it.
And it wasn't the principal's.
"Aph..",Rosemary called out, causing the two to turn towards her as she slowly crouched down and sniffed the air once more,"It was here.. but it smells like someone took it"
With a small hum, the Meif'wa looked around and had a very confused look on his face.
'I'm sure someone must've brought it in',He stated.
With a low groan, Rosemary rolled her eyes and looked towards the ceiling, praying to Irene to give this boy a smack upside the head.
Not everyone in the school is a goody two shoes.
'This is terrible',Aphmau cried,'My mom is going to kill me if I lost that phone! She'll probably never let me have another one ever again!'
Wincing slightly, Rosemary agreed with her sister and could only imagine the storm that her mother would brew.
She wasn't one to be very.. forgiving and she could rarely be reasoned with.
Taking his phone out of his pocket, the Meif'wa held it out towards Aphmau and gestured for her to take it.
'You could call your phone using mine. Maybe it'll ring and we just overlooked it'
With a small glare forming on her face, Rosemary slowly turned towards the Meif'wa and let out a small growl, her eyes darkening with anger as a web of blue slowly began to spread across from her pupil to her irises.
'A-Alright',Aphmau stuttered and gently took his phone from his hand.
A low ring began to fill the air and Rosemary's left ear twitched at the sound, before she began to listen closely, trying to pick up the familiar ringtone of her sister's phone.
But she heard nothing.
So it was either on silent, it was dead or someone turned it off.
A small groan left Aphmau's lips and she went to the Home Screen, before handing the Meif'wa his phone back.
'It must be dead',She groaned, a sad undertone laying within her voice.
Suddenly, a rush of footsteps came their way and a teacher walked towards them.
'What are you students doing up here!?'
At the loud and booming voice, Rosemary jumped slightly and a small yelp left her lips as her ears pulled back, her eyes narrowing as a low growl left her lips.
Seeing a familiar face, Rosemary immediately calmed down and a sigh of relief left her lips; it was just Mr. Gavin.
'I- I'm sorry, sir. We were just—'
A booming laugh filled the air as Mr. Gavin caught sight of the alpha and beta females, his eyes lighting up at the sight of them.
'Ahh, Aphmau, Rosemary!',Mr. Gavin boomed,'Good to see the two of you again'
Calming down, Aphmau's hammering heart gradually slowed down to it's normal tempo and she let out a shaky sigh, a small smile forming on her face.
It wasn't every day that someone snuck up on you.
'Oh, Mr. Gavin!',Aphmau exclaimed,'It's great to see you'
Turning his attention towards the teacher, the Meif'wa immediately began to apologize and try to take the full blame on himself.
But Rosemary knew that they wouldn't get in trouble.
'I'm sorry, sir',He apologized,'Ms. Aphmau and Ms. Rosemary here were mentoring me. I had asked where the principal's office was'
Letting out a small hum, Mr. Gavin smiled at the two girl's and gave them both nods of approval.
He was glad that Aphmau was acting much like a leader and Rosemary being her counterpart.
They worked just like an alpha and beta should.
'Good to hear',Mr. Gavin said, before looking towards the two girl's,'I was afraid the two of you were breaking the rules or something, girls. And as the alpha and beta, doing that on their first day's-'
Mr. Gavin began before he began to mutter under his breath and Rosemary's left ear twitched slightly, his voice filling her ears.
He wasn't very good at whispering.
'Even though it always happens',Mr. Gavin stated under his breath, before clearing his throat and looking back up at the two,'Aphmau, Rosemary, may I have a word with you two?'
Hums of curiosity left the twins lips and they glanced towards one another, confusion and worry in their gazes.
But, they looked towards Mr. Gavin and nodded followed him as they walked a few paces away, from enough away from the Meif'wa so that he couldn't hear what they were saying.
'I was wondering if you're going to take werewolf class this year?',Mr. Gavin said, directing the question towards Aphmau,'I looked and saw that you weren't enrolled in my class. Rosemary here was on the list, but you weren't'
Glancing down for a moment, a small frown made it's way onto Aphmau's lips and her eyes filled with guilt as she looked back up towards the teacher.
'Mr. Gavin, sir.. I- I-',Aphmau stuttered.
And before she could get out another word, Mr. Gavin spoke up and interrupted her, his voice stern.
'Aphmau, Aaron is graduated and you're the first alpha to keep that title for more than just one year',Mr. Gavin explained,'And all of the work can't just be put on the beta's. This isn't something we're use to dealing with, so you have to understand that a lot of guys are going to be asking you to a-point them the title'
A stressed look formed on Aphmau's face and she quickly shook her head, her eyes full of stress.
'I don't want this',Aphmau stated,'I'm not a werewolf, I'm a human. This was a mistake and I just want to go back to being a normal human with normal human things with normal responsibilities, give the position to someone else who can actually understand it. Like Rosemary!'
Shaking his head, a huff left the teacher's lips and he disagreed with her statement.
'Well, tough luck kid, this isn't the way things work with us',Mr. Gavin explained and gestured towards Rosemary,'In order for a beta to become the alpha, something would have to happen to the previous alpha; either from graduation or if the beta fought against the alpha female and won. You'd know that if you paid attention in my class last year'
'But I'm. a. human!',Aphmau exclaimed, her voice raising with each word.
With a confused look on his face, sapphire blue eyes looked between Aphmau and Rosemary, his right ear twitching slightly.
'Are you sure?',Mr. Gavin questioned,'You and Aaron were pretty good at being leaders last year'
A growl of aggravation left Aphmau's lips and hearing the sound, Mr. Gavin perked up, his eyes glistening.
She had the growl down.
'See!',Mr. Gavin exclaimed,'You've even got the growl down!'
With a stifled laugh leaving her, a small snort filled the air and everyone turned towards her, causing Rosemary to look up and seeing Aphmau glaring her way, her ears slowly pulled back.
Rosemary may have been aggressive, but Aphmau was still her alpha and could still put her in her place.
'I'm not entering werewolf class',Aphmau stated,'Now, if you'll excuse us, Rosemary and I have to get back to this student we were mentoring and get him back to the fair'
'Well if you don't join my class, consider joining the werewolf club like your sister!',Mr. Gavin exclaimed and began to walk away,'Many of the werewolves are looking to you for guidance!'
Letting out a growl of aggravation, Aphmau didn't realize that Rosemary stepped back and let out a sigh, her ears pulling back as she looked towards the ground.
She didn't get it.
Many werewolves would be honored to become the alpha female and seeing that Aphmau didn't care enough about her position to actually take charge and lead them, hurt Rosemary deeply.
It was like she was telling the werewolves that she didn't care about them.
'Are you okay?',The Meif'wa questioned, looking towards Aphmau.
Letting out a huff of aggravation, Aphmau took in a deep breath to calm herself and slowly nodded, speaking up through clenched teeth.
'I'm fine',She gritted out,'Just class stuff. Anyway, let's get back down to the club fair'
Walking off, Aphmau heard only one set of footsteps following her and turning around, she saw that the Meif'wa was following close behind, but Rosemary was still back where they were.
She stood there looking towards the ground, a small frown on her lips and her face was void of any emotion, but since she was looking down, Aphmau couldn't see the hurt that was in her eyes.
'Rose?',Aphmau spoke up.
Slowly looking up, vermilion and chocolate connected as one and a confused look formed on Aphmau's face at the void look on her sister's face; alongside the emotion in her eyes.
'Are.. Are you okay?',Aphmau questioned.
Shaking her head, Rosemary let her face go void of any emotion and she slowly walked towards them, before walking past them, heading down the stairs.
"I'm fine..",She muttered.
