Summer was finally here.
The twins graduated and their trip to Cousins Beach came way faster than anyone could have anticipated. Their mom had woken them up early that day seeing as Laurel was on her way to pick them up.
If anyone knew Dakota, they knew he was not a morning person. His mom was fully prepared for that, so she made him pack nights before. That still didn't take away from the fact that he had to be up early.
Dakota drags his bags through the hallway. As he makes it to the staircase, he sees Liz standing at the bottom. It seemed like she had just finished bringing her own bags down.
So, like any other person would, Dakota tosses his bags down the stairs. Liz jumps from her place by the door.
"Seriously?" She scoffs
"Shut up." He grumbles as he starts to make his way down the stairs
Liz was taken aback, "Excuse you?"
"You're excused."
Liz rolls her eyes, "I don't know who pissed in your cereal this morning, but the attitude is unnecessary."
"I don't know who pissed in your cereal this morning-" He mocks
"Shut up, Dakota." She snaps
"You guys aren't even out of the house yet and you're already arguing." Megan sighs as she turns the corner
"It's him. He's stupid." Liz says pointing to him
Dakota squints, "You're stupid."
"Your only response is to mock me. Come up with something else."
"I'm older."
"By a minute and a half, if that." Liz scoffs
Dakota shrugs, "Doesn't matter."
Before Liz could respond, Dakota opens the door and tosses his bags onto the porch. Liz comes out seconds later with a scowl on her face that quickly vanishes.
The twins look up as a car pulls into the driveway. As soon as the car stops, the passenger door opens.
"Belly!" Liz yells causing Dakota to jump
"Liz!" Belly shouts as they collide in a hug
Dakota's brows raise as he goes down the steps with his bags. The drivers side door opens and a teenage boy steps out.
"Yo, Dakota." Steven, Belly's older brother, says as he walks up to him
"What's up, dude?" Dakota says dapping him up
"How you been, man? Here. Let me help you." Steven says grabbing one of Dakota's bags
"Thanks." Dakota says as they make their way to the trunk, "I've been good, what about you?"
"Good. Good." Steven says as they set Dakota's bags in the trunk
"My god, Dakota, could you go any slower?" Liz groans
"I just got here, alright? Relax."
"Relax." She mocks
Dakota steps back to let Liz and Belly put the formers bags in the trunk, "You're literally the most annoying person I've ever met in my entire life."
Belly giggles as Liz rolls her eyes. Dakota looks toward Steven who motions toward the car with wide eyes. Dakota quickly caught on.
"That's why you're getting the middle seat." He says walking around to the back seat
"What? No!" Liz whines
"Yup." Dakota says as he opens the door and gets in, "Hi, Laurel."
"Hey, sweetie." She smiles as she gets out to let Liz in, "At least you can sit by me."
Liz smiles at her, but huffs as she scoots toward the middle. Dakota rolls the window down. "Bye, mom. Love you."
Dakota groans as Liz leans over him, "I love you more."
Dakota frowns, "What? No you don't."
"Yes, I do." Liz scoffs
"I love you both. Have fun and stop fighting." Megan chuckles as Steven drives off

They had been on the road for a few hours before Steven stopped off at the gas station. The girls decided to get out to grab some snacks for the rest of the way.
"Liz. Grab the purple bag of skittles, please." Dakota says
"Yeah, whatever." She says before shutting the door and jogging to catch up to Belly
Dakota sits back in his seat as Steven pumps the gas. Steven looks at Dakota through the open window.
"Yo." Steven says. Dakota looks up, "Have any girls lined up for this summer?"
"No, dude." Dakota shakes his head, "Hopefully I can find someone at the bonfire."
"What about Liz's friend?"
Dakota frowns, "Who? River?"
"Yeah. She's cute."
"No, bro. She's annoying is what she is." Dakota chuckles
"Oh, well." Steven says as he puts the pump back and shuts the gas tank, "Hopefully there's some hot girls at the bonfire."
Dakota smiles and shakes his head as Steven gets in the front seat. It's not long before the girls come out. When Liz gets in the back, she tosses something at Dakota. When he catches it, he realizes it's the red bag of skittles.
"This isn't even the right flavor, dude." Dakota complains
"Who cares? It all tastes the same."
Dakota squints at her as she faces forward. He huffs as he puts his headphones back in his ears.

Liz can barely contain herself as they finally pull into the beach house driveway. Dakota excited as well, but much calmer than she was.
"What's up?" Jeremiah smiles as he walks off of the porch
"Go, go, go. Hurry up." Liz says as she pushes at Dakota's arm
"I'm going." Dakota says
"Hi. Oh my god." Laurel laughs as she hugs Jeremiah
"Long time no see." Jeremiah says
"Good to see you."
Steven and Jeremiah hug as Dakota runs up behind them and joins in, "Dakota. How have you been, man?"
"Good. What about you, dude?" He says
"Good." Jeremiah smiles before he looks past him
"Liz, oh my god." Jeremiah says walking up to hug her. Liz laughs as she hugs him back. He lets her go and looks over at Belly.
"Look who came back all grown up." He smiles as he hugs Belly and twirls her around. Belly laughs as Liz turns and sees him.
Dakota looks over as Conrad comes out. He was Jeremiah's older brother, but a year younger than the twins. He then notices Liz almost entranced by him as he walks up to her. Dakota knew that Liz had had a crush on Conrad for years.
Belly walks over to them to say hi to Conrad. The other three boys walk over as well.
"Hey, hey, guys, guys. I mean, I-I don't know about you, but I..." Steven says as Liz smiles, "Well, I-I think it's time for a..."
"Belly flop!" Steven, Jeremiah, and Dakota yell
Belly screams as Jeremiah and Steven grab at her. They chase her around to the back gate as she runs to get away. Dakota and Conrad share a look as they smirk. They suddenly pick up Liz as she screams in shock.
"What? No, I'm not apart of this tradition." She exclaims as she tries to fight her way down
"You are now." Dakota laughs
They bring her to the backyard where Jeremiah and Steven are holding Belly by her hands and feet.
"Right here. Right here." Jeremiah says as they scoot over to make space for Liz. They put Liz in the same position as Belly as they start to count down.
"One..."
"Two..."
"Three!" They shout as they toss the two girls in the pool. The girls scream before they finally land in the water. The boys laugh as the girls emerge from the water.
"How's the water?" Jeremiah jokes
The boys continue laughing as Liz swims to the edge with a frown.
"Guys, wait, I hurt my ankle." She says. Belly swims to the other side with a grin as she sees the boys start to worry. Dakota, however, could see right through her.
"Bullshit."
"No, I'm serious." She gasps
"Come on." Conrad says as he holds his hand out to her. Liz grabs his hand before she quickly pulls him in. Belly laughs as she gets out.
The two teenagers emerge soon after as Jeremiah, Dakota, and Steven laugh.
"Hurry Liz. The water is freezing." Belly says as Liz swims to the edge of the pool.
Conrad swims to the other side where Dakota helps him out.
"Told you she was bluffing, bro." He says as he pats Conrad on the shoulder. Conrad chuckles as he shakes his hair out.
