We got out of the dirigible, and stood on the mountain-like-rook in Slip Mountain. At least that's what Menchi told us back at the cooking phase. Well now it was basically cooking phase but different.
And I can truly understand by looking at a huge cliff in the middle of the mountain, why it was called the Split Mountain.
"This is it," Menchi smirked, us all looking at the endless cliff. If I would fall there, I would probably die... "Take a look what's down there," she added as I soon noticed... spider webs? Oh no, no, no... "A spider Eagles Web!" Menchi exclaimed. Oh I knew it, I whined in my head.
"They built their webs, way down there?" Gon asked exitedly. Oh, Gon my poor innocent boy, you shall not fear the dangerous spiders, shall you?
A wind blew into our faces as that guy from before (let's just call him Patrick, for now) flew away a few feet and landed on his but.
"Look past the web, what's underneath!" Menchi added as I bowed down to see more. And almost falling to my death. Killua gripped on my shirt and pulled me back before I could fall off and die. I still got a glimpse of what was beneath tho.
"Those are..." me and Gon gasped at once.
"...those are Spider-Eagles-Eggs!" Menchi explained as we three: Killua, me and Gon stared at the small figures, beneath the web.
"Spider-Eagle-Eggs build their webs in deep ravens like this one. It helps protect their eggs from predators. That's what makes Spider-Eagle-Eggs one of the most difficult ingredients to obtain." Said a voice from behind, but I was more into the spider eggs now then to listen so I just stared listening. "Also, the eggs are common known as Dream-Eggs."
"Hey- wait a minute! Do you mean..." 'Patrick' said out.
"You bet I do!" Menchi flinched in his sentence. I turned to her as she stepped on the edge of the hill and jumped off. I would have jumped after her, if I didn't feel her confident aura. Everyone gasped as I saw her caught the web. I intensively looked at her while feeling two exited auras around me.
Menchi looked as if she was waiting for something.
"Even if she grabs eggs... how is she going to climb back up?" Leorio murmured out.
Then it happened. Something made Menchi let go of the web and jump off. She gently and very smoothly grabbed the egg and fallen to her death. Even though I am pretty sure she ain't gonna die.
"Hey she jumped out! Is she trying to get herself killed?!" Leorio babbled.
"No she's not," Kurapika said my thoughts out loud.
For a split second there was dead silence. Until a big gap of wind came back carrying Menchi up the hill. It almost seemed as if she was flying!
"That looks so fun!" Killua exclaimed, Gon agreeing with him. I looked at both boys and sight. Yeah it will be fun if we won't accidentally die...
"This revenue has updrafts that are usually crucial to the Spider-Eagles. Once they hatch the wind blew guides help guide their new born chicks as they fly up to safety," Netero explained us all now looking back to him. Menchi landing next to him in the end of his sentence.
"There!" Menchi said showing us her egg. Now I just need to boil it and it'll be set!" She smiled at us.
"You...you gotta be kidding!" 'Patrick' just stop interfering, PLEASE! "You mean... you really expect down there?! That's crazy!" He yelled.
"I've been waiting for something like this!" I heard Gon's voice next to me. Uh-oh. Him and Killua grabbed my hands as they both jumped off taking me with them. Leorio and Kurapika joining us.
And soon we were all on the spider web. At least a lot of people. And I was again in between Killua and Gon.
"See ya!" Some guy shouted and jumped off the web. I frowned at him. Are people seriously believe it's that easy? Maybe I was not sure myself what we should do, but Menchi waited for something.
"What are we waiting for!" Leorio yelled smiling. Oh my god, if we weren't your friends you'd be dead at the first phase.
"Hold on don't let go yet!" Gon said before something could happen. So he noticed it too.
"Why what's wrong?" Leorio asked.
"There's no wind," Killua said.
"No wind? Ah so that's what Menchi..." I sighed as Killua flicked his fingers towards my forehead.
"Hey you two don't argue at the value of your life," Kurapika frowned at us.
The guy that let go was now falling with his egg to his unseen death.
"The updrafts don't happen all the time," Kurapika said as I heard how the guy from before started screaming for his life.
"When do you think the next one comes along?" Leorio asked.
"It's hard to say..." I mumbled.
"Any minute now!" Gon updated us. We all looked at him. I noticed how his nose was twitching. Damn this boy is really a human-dog isn't he?
The wed that was holding was started collapsing. I shiver as I grabbed on stronger on the web.
"Oh crap! What the..." Leorio let out as I now was almost sitting on the web, ready to use my nen and save myself. But then I saw Killua's and Gon's faces. And again bowed down to my friends.
"It appears that the web is not strong enough to support all this weight!" Kurapika yelled.
Me and Killua both turned to Gon and at the same time said. "Gon, can we go now?"
Gon still in his smelling process while some people who couldn't wait any longer jumped off. I gulped as I saw them jump to their death. Yikes!
The web was about to snap.
"It's about to snap!" Leorio panicked.
"Well thank you mister obvious!" I shouted back to him.
"Okay, now!" Gon said which made me and everyone else let go of the web. I fallen as I in slow motion grabbed my egg. Falling into the dusty fog. Then soon the wind came back and raised us all to the edge, back where we started. Only now with those huge spider eggs.
Menchi seemed proud of us. "What about you guys?" She asked. Then she stared at the applicants who didn't jump off. I noticed Patrick along with them. "I'm guessing, you quit?"
...
"So you were the only person that Menchi passed huh?" Chairman Netero asked me as I eaten my egg. I'm not sure how Spider-Eagles where so delicious, but eh.
"Mhm," I proudly hummed.
"Well that's really, surprising! Only a few people in the world can make something so delicious that our examiner would like," he proposed.
I shot my eyebrows. "Really?"
"Really," Netero assured me.
A smile of proudness grew in my face. "Well then I need to thank her for passing me!" I shouted as I ran towards her nen aura.
I saw her standing next to Gon and that guy I named Patrick. "Hey, mister Toto!" Gon said obviously talking to the guy. Aha! So that's his name! "This eggs really good, you wanna try it?" He asked. Oh my poor baby, I shall protect your innocence.
Toto eventually tried the egg and was delighted with how it tasted. "Eh! It's delicious!" He exclaimed.
"A joy of discovering something delicious," I heard Menchi talk. "And now you know what it feels like," Menchi said smirking. "And that feeling, is what we risk our life for," she finished, a smile on her face.
"I must fare and square," mister Toto said. "Next year. I'll be back," he said bowing. I smiled at the view.
Gon seemed happy as I walked up to him and pat his head. He seemed surprised by my actions but soon began laughing as I smiled at him.
From what I have counted there are about 50 to 40 applicants left.
...
Thank you for reading sooo much! I hope your enjoying this book!
The next chapter might contain violence and deep thoughts (maybe). So I'm just warning you.
Also, yes Annya dislikes spiders and heights, since she basically grew up in a forest, she almost never had to deal with these two things.
Anyways, have a nice day! Eat, drink, go outside and enjoy yourself!
Bye-bye!
