1 day and 12 hours later

Budapest

Natasha exited the train at the Budapest railway station Alamy. She walked all the way towards the building where she will find her sister. She took the elevator up to the flat below the meeting room to take the pistol hidden in a small compartment of the building.

She made her way up the stairs until she reached the doors. She sighs before slowly opening the knob and enters the room.

Closing doors behind here, she makes her way down the hallway. She can hear something shaking in the kitchen.

When she finally walks into the kitchen, she simply blinks. She finds her sister at the table facing her while eating spaghetti.

"I knew you would come." - Her sister greets while putting a lot of ketchup into her bowl of spaghetti.

"Really mature." - Natasha tells her as she makes her way towards her.

"Dad told me it's good for your health." - Yelena defends herself while she digs the spaghetti into her mouth.

"I - - That is not - - I'm not talking about food. I'm talking about how you nearly got me killed!" - Natasha shouts which confuses Yelena. "What?" - Yelela simply asks. She was sure nobody followed her.

"Yes, the afternoon after you left, I got jumped up by a guy with a skull like mask." - Natasha tells her. Okay maybe she wasn't followed, she thought.

"Cute. You got Halloween earlier." - She smiles as she puts another bite into her mouth.

Natasha groans at her. "It wasn't a normal mask. It was a highly armored helmet and armor, but the most important thing is that he could mimic me." - She says which now only gets Yelena a little bit serious while she's occupied with her spaghetti.

"Mimic? Like he recreated your moves?

"Not just mine. He also did Captain America's shield throw, Spidermans web swinging and some I never saw." - She explains while she moves to the sleeping room to find clothes to change into. "It's like fighting a mirror."

"Did he use bullets that do something like that?" - Yelena points at holes into a wall while taking the last bite of her food before standing up.

Nat spares the quick glance at it before walking forward. "Those are not bullets. Arrows."

"Ah, right." - Yelana says as she follows her sister.

"Did maybe secretary Ross finally decided to send a mercenary after you?" - She asks as Natasha looks at a hanger with a few clothes.

"No, he said that I came to his home country. That's maybe right because he spoke perfect Norwegian, but his accent sounded american, but I'm not sure because of the helmet." - She tells her as she finally decided to take a light black shirt.

"Did he give you his name?" - She asks with a visible smug face which is so punchable by those who hate her, but also so kissable by those who find her funny. But she's lucky as Natasha only rolls her eyes at the remark/question.

"As matter of fact, yes. He said he's calling himself Taskmaster." - She puts on the shirt as they walk out of the room, Yelena now carrying a bag she took from the cabinet.

"Do you know him?" - Natasha now asks her as they walk back into the kitchen.

"Sounds familiar, but no, I don't know, but maybe he's Dreykows new pet project." - Yelena suggests with the most innocent looking face. She may look like a cinemaroll, but she can kill you.

"Why did you want me to come here, Yelena?" - Red head finally asks the question she was wondering about all day since the bridge.

"1. I was Hungary." - Nat rolls her eyes at the pun. "2. It's a good safe house and 3. To show you this." - Yelena zips the bag open and takes out a vial container, in which every vial contains a red substance.

"What is this?" - Nat asks as she grabs them.

"It's a synthetic gas. The counteragent to chemical subjugation. The gas immunizes the brain's neuropathways from external manipulation. - Yelena says while she walks to the armory room.

"Maybe in English next time?"

"Это противоядие от контроля над разумом. (It's an antidote to mind control.)" - Yelena annoyingly responds in a language that's not English in a casual way.

"Настоящий взрослый. (Real mature.)" - She says but then they hear something.

Muffled footsteps on the roof of the building outside. Then it was followed by a loud scream and 3 seconds later they heard a big bang, like something hit the asphalt hard.

"What was that!?" - Yelena asks worriedly as she looks at the direction of the windows.

"I don't know, but you gotta pack up. We are leaving." - She tells before she turns and starts running towards the doors, taking out her handgun and goes to investigate the big bang.

5 minutes earlier, on the rooftops outside

"Ингрид до тимот, имам нишани на двете мети. (Ingrid to team, I have sights on both targets.)" - A window talks in Macedonian into her comm as she is laying on the rooftop, opposite that of the building where Natasha and Yelena are. She has a sniper aimed towards them.

"Скопируй эту Ингрид, будь готов убить их по моему сигналу. (Copy that Ingrid, be ready to take them out on my signal.)" - Other widow responds in Russian. "Альфа команде, звоните. (Alpha to team, call in.)

Soon, another widow responds. "Симона — Альфе, остальные на позициях, но Альфа, две вдовы не отвечают. (Simona to Alpha, rest of us are in positions, but Alpha, 2 of the widows are not responding.) - She says, concern visible in her voice.

"Альфа Симоне, наверное у них в той комнате есть глушилки, неважно, продолжаем задание. Ингрид, ты готова? (Alpha to Simona, probably they have jamming gadgets in that room, no matter less, we continue with the task. Ingrid, you ready?) - She orders.

"Подготвен, Алфа. (Ready, Alpha.)"

"На моем знаке. (On my sign.)" - She orders. "Пять...Четыре...Три...Тв - - (Five...Four...Three...Tw - -)" - Suddenly her comm is cut off.

"Алфа, ти копираш? Алфа, таму си? (Alpha, you copy? Alpha, you there?) - Ingrid shouts into her comm.

"Aubrey don fhoireann, tá rud éigin mícheart. Ní féidir liom teacht ar na cinn eile. siad - - (Aubrey to the team, something is wrong. I can't reach the others. They - -)" - Another widow is also cut off.

"Обри! Обри! Дали копираш? Обри!? (Aubrey! Aubrey! Do you copy? Aubrey!?)" - Ingrid now feels only one emotion which she shouldn't: FEAR.

"Ингрид на базу, я продолжаю миссию. (Ingrid to base, I'm continuing the mission.)" - She shakily responds as she readies herself and takes aim at Natasha.

"База для Ингрид, подтверждение (Base to Ingrid, confirmative.)" - She hears the command and puts her finger on the trigger.

But before she can take the shot, something jumps behind her. Before she can turn, she is grabbed behind her neck and tossed 2 meters (around 6 feet) to the side of the roof.

When she finally looks up, she sees a man covered in armor, holding a shield in his right hand and a sword in his left hand. But most outstanding piece is hiding under his hood.

It's a helmet which has a skull face shape. Taskmaster has arrived.

She takes out her baton and goes for the strike, but Taskmaster simply disarms her baton in a second and then he aggressively goes to beat shit out of her with her weapon. Oh the seetwer irony.

He hits her in ribs, the hips, the pressure nerve, the neck, the head, the knee. She struggles for air. Before she can fall on the ground, Taskmaster grabs her by her neck and carries her to the edge of the roof.

"П-П-Пожалуйста...(P-P-Please...)" - She pleads as she looks at the hunting helmet with fear.

"Ты будешь моим посланником. (You will be my messenger.)" - He responds coldly to her.

"Я сделаю что угодно. П-пожалуйста... (I'll do anything. P-Please...)" - She tries to breathe as Taskmaster leans closer to her.

"Тогда пожалуйста. ПАДЕНИЕ. (Then please. FALL.)" - He whispers into her ear as Ingrid's eyes widen.

Then he released her by throwing her over the edge as she screamed before hitting the asphalt hard.

Out of 7 widows that were sent to retrieve the vials, only one is currently alive.

When Natasha finally walks out of the building, she sees a widow laying in the puddle of water, grunting and panting in pain as she has a broken leg.

Natasha slowly approaches her as the widow turns and looks at her. Nat can see a hunting look in the widow's eyes, like she has just faced death.

"Hey. Don't move." - The Russian spy spoke softly as she extended her arm. "You're hurt. Let me help you."

Amidst her pain and shaky breathing, Ingrid activated her widow's bite and aimed it at Natasha, still going through with the mission.

But then she slowly starts to move her hand at herself as widows bite starts beeping, counting till the shot comes out.

"I don't wanna do this." - Ingrid sobbed as she knew what was going to happen to her: She will be Terminated.

"What are you doing?" - Natasha asked, confused and shocked. "He's making me."

Those are the last words she will ever speak because a red electric blast shoots into her left side of her face, killing her.

Natasha moves forward and knees in front of the now dead widow which she could have saved. Yelena finally camed, with one vial in her hand, ready to use it, but when she looks up, her face drops.

Natasha stares at the body until she sees something moving, moving in the puddle's reflection. She can see a blurry shape of a person, in armor.

Natasha quickly looks up and freezes. At the top of the roof, Taskmaster is looking directly at her. When Yelena finally spotted him, Natasha was already on her feet, running away as she pulled Yelena with her, all the while Taskmaster simply smirked under his helmet.

Natasha and Yelena run around the corner where motorbikes were parked.

"Which one's yours?" - Nat asks as they approach the vehicles.

"Black. Brown seat." - The blonde said while she looked for the key in her pockets." Where are my keys?" - She wonders until her sister takes them out into her palm before inserting them and turning on the engine.

"Ах, сука. (ah, bitch.)" - She curses at her.

Suddenly, a car is wrecked into the air on the street nearby as a tank arrives on their right.

"Any day now." - Natasha shouts to Yelena who quickly climbs onto the bike.

Motorbike revs the bike and speeds down the alleyway as the tank starts to chase. Driving the tank was no one then Taskmaster.

They drive until Natasha turns the bike and drives into a small entrance as a tank crushes through an unlucky van.

Once they went out into an adjacent road, the last widow alive came chasing them with her own bike. Natasha dodges through the cars as the widow drives up the cars, crashing one windshield. She shoots at them with her uzi.

Bullets hit the back tire of their bike and sent them crashing into a wall and they came falling onto a car driving below.

"Jól vagy? (Are you ok?)" - A driver asks them as Yelena quickly stands up and aims a pistol at him.

"Fantasztikus. (Fantastic.)" - A driver runs away as both sisters enter the car.

" You can't just steal a guy's car." - She scowls her sister as she sits in the driver seat.

"So you want me to chase him down and un-steal it?" - She said as she hopped into a passenger seat.

Natasha starts driving backwards and hits the car behind.

"Okay. Any time now, please." - Yelena rolls her eyes.

"Shut up." - Nat shuts her up when widow starts shooting at them as they ducked. Natasha then accelerated the car forward as they drove away while the widow still chased after them.

They drove until they reached the road where there is less traffic as the widow shoots her uzi and shatters the back windows.

"Okay, you got a plan, or shall I just stay duck-and-cover?" - Yelena asks as she turns to her sister. "Yeah, my plan was to drive us away." - Natasha says.

"That's a shit plan." - Yelena responds. She thinks quickly and decides on her move.

She grabs the steering wheel of the car and turns it. Tires screech as Yelena turns them 180 degrees as now they drive backwards. Then Yelena kicks the door open which hit the lamp which sends doors spinning towards the widow and crashes into the motorbike, sending the widow off the bike and rolling on the road.

Natasha reoriented and continued driving down the road. the car. "You're welcome."

They made their way into an intersection and sped down the street. They thought they were clear, but then Taskmaster drove from another street, plowing through the cars.

"Oh, shit. He's back." - Yelena breathed out.

Hatch of the tank opens and Taskmaster stoods out, looking at their car. He summons his bow and takes out the arrow from his quivery and aims the arrow at his target.

Natasha sees this through the rearview mirror. "Put your seatbelt on." - She commands her sister, knowing what this guy is capable of.

"You're such a mom." - She scoffed but done it anyway.

Natasha tried to swerve the car to make it impossible to hit them, but Taskmaster locked onto them. "I got you in my sights."

He then releases the arrow and it flies underneath the car where it bounces off the asphalt and hits the undercarriage of the car.

Explosion happens and sends the car upwards in the ball of fire.

"Bullseye." - He says, but then sees that the car is going to fall on top of him. "Å faen meg. (Oh fuck me.)" - He curses as he ducks at the last second.

The car bounced off the tank as it rolled down the street and fell into the staircase leading into the subway. People in the subway were startled at the sight of an appeared car.

Natasha grunts as she crawls out of the car window. She notices the blood dripping from her sisters arm.

"Natasha, no. I think I'm bleeding. Im - -" - Yelena goes to wrap her bloudy woon to stop the bleeding, but Natasha stops her as she has a plan.

"No. Not now, trust me."

They ran through the crowd, going towards the escalators. Taskmaster slowly walks down the stairs and spots them fleeing.

"En, to, tre, jeg kommer etter deg. (One, two, three, I'm coming for you.)" - He taunts as bystanders look at him in bewilderment.

Sisters made it to the escalators and jumped between them as they started to slide down the railing. The Taskmaster saw this and threw his shield with all of his strength.

Just as sisters made it down the railing, a shield came flying above them as it impaled into the pillar infront of them.

Natasha helped Yelena up as they continued on their escape. Taskmaster made it to the lower level of the subway and looked around.

The Hungarian announcer speaks on the speakers as the train leaves the station when Taskmaster spotted the blood on the ground.

He followed the blood trail on the floor until he reached the grate in the ground. Taskmaster rips the grate open. He looks down for a second before dropping down into the sewers.

But he will be fooled as Natasha and Yelena hid above into a vent. Yelena groans as she finishes tying the tourniquet around her woon.

"You okay?" - Natasha asked.

"Yeah. Great plan. I love the part where I almost bled to death." - She replied while she looked around at the small space."This is cozy."

"Barton and I spent two days hiding out up here." - Her sister replied.

"That must have been fun." - The blonde said while checking out the markings of tic-tac-toe and hangman on the vents walls.

Couple of hours later

Natasha and Yelena walk down the small street of the village outside of Budapest as they approach a small gas station.

"The Red Room's still active. Where is it?" - Natasha asks as they enter the shop.

"I have no idea." - Yelena honestly and tiredly answers to her. "He moves location constantly. And every widow is sedated on entry and exit for maximum security." - She explains as she checks the shelfs for items they are going to buy.

Nat shakes her head. "I'm just finding it hard to believe that he could stay off my radar."

"Well, it's not smart to attack an Avenger if you want to stay hidden. I mean, the clue is in the name. Dreykov kills you, one of the big ones comes to avenge you." - She says as Natasha looks at her with a puzzled face. "Wait, what are the big ones?"

"Well, I doubt the god from space has to take an ibuprofen after a fight." - She says as she holds the stuff she took while her sister stays silent.

Then Yelena finally asks the question that has been eating her ever since Nat Escaped the Red Room. "Where did you think I was all this time?"

Natasha hesitates to answer as she moves towards the sink to wash her hands. "I thought that you got out and were living a normal life."

"And you just never made contact again?" - She asks in a way that sounds like an accusation.

"Honestly, I thought you didn't wanna see me." - She says which makes Yelena scoff at that.

"Bullshit. You just didn't want your baby sister to tag along, whilst you saved the world with the cool kids." - She tells as she walks up to the main part of the shop.

"You weren't really my sister." - She rebutted as she dried her hands. Yelena made a look which looked like those words stunged, but she quickly dropped it.

"And the Avengers aren't really your family." - She fires back, but that didn't faze the red head.

"Why do you always do that thing?"

"Do what?" - She asks.

"The thing you do when you're fighting." - Realizing that Nat doesn't know about what she is taking about, she decides to demonstrate it.

"The... Like, the... " - She crouches down and tries to mimic her signature pose. "This thing that you do when you whip your hair when you're fighting with the arm and the hair. And you do, like, a fighting pose." - She rocks her head up and down as her hair flies the same way. That makes her laugh when Natasha doesn't react to that.

"It's a..." - She again laughs bitterly. "It's a fighting pose. You're a total poser."

"I'm not a poser." - Natasha defends herself.

Yelena again shortly laughs at her denial. "Oh, come on. I mean, they're great poses, but it does look like you think everyone's looking at you, like, all the time."

"All that time that I spent posing, I was trying to actually do something good to make up for all the pain and suffering that we caused. Trying to be more than just a trained killer." - She says which makes the lighthearted tone in Yelena die down.

"Well, then you were fooling yourself because pain and suffering is every day and we are both still a trained killer." - She tells her before turning to face her directly. "Except I'm not the one that's on the cover of a magazine. I'm not the killer that little girls call their hero."

Yelena walks out of the shop, leaving Natasha to pay for their things.

When night fell down, both sisters were sitting at the table in a small cafe outside. Kids are chattering as they play with a ball outside.

Yelena winces as she pours alcohol onto her wound as Natasha walks with two bottles of beer. Natasha looks at the kids playing until Yelena gets her attention.

"That gas, the counteragent, it was synthesized in secret by an older widow from Melina's generation." - She explained as Natasha glanced at the vials in their bag. "I was on the mission to retrieve it, and she exposed me and I killed the widow that freed me."

"Did you have a choice?" . She asks.

"Its chemically altering brain functions. You're fully conscious, but you don't know which part is you." -She exhales. "I'm still not sure."

Natasha saty silent which doesn't go unnoticed by her sister. "Were you ever exposed to that gas?"

It was now Nats turn to sigh out. "Yes. In fact I was the first one to ever be tested on." - She says. "I was under its influence for 7 months before I broke free of it."

Yelena looks at her confused. "How did you snap out of it?" - She wonders as Natasha looks down.

FLASHBACK

"I was on a mission to assassinate two American ambassadors in Oslo."

As she stared at the black painted building with many rectangular windows, the door of the building opened. Both of her targets come out at nine and fifteen in the evening.

"I was told they were secret SHIELD agents, trying to spread SHIELDs influence in Europe after the Iron Curtain fell."

She began to cross the street, a gun in her coat, all the while staring at a tall white man with brown hair and a black woman with Puerto Rican blood.

"It was a simple mission. Go in and out. No witnesses."

Now she walked towards them, their destiny approaching with every step. When she was five feet away, she pulled out her gun, which she was hiding. The couple's eyes widened. Anthony tried to run to turn or grab the gun, while Mercedes hugged something with her hands and moved it behind her. But it was already late.

"Mission went according to plan..."

Natasha fired the first bullet, then the second, then the third bullet. All three bullets hit Anthony in the chest, and his body moved backwards before falling on the cold sidewalk. She could hear the grown woman scream out, probably saying her husband's name, but she heard another, smaller voice too. The Black Widow points her gun at the Mercedes and fires two bullets, both of which hit the black woman in the head. Another body falls and the pavement reddens with it's blood.

"...but I had bad intel."

But then, she hears something in front of her falling onto the sidewalk. That confuses Natalia. She had already heard both bodies hit the ground. What else could fall when they did not carried anything in their hands.

But then, she hears something again, but this time it's not something that fell, but she hears ... a sob.

Natasha finally lowered her gaze down. Her gaze was right in the middle which the Masters were making as they walked. And now her gaze was between the bodies of both adults bodies, as their blood adorned the sidewalk. And in the middle of it, she saw something. Her eyes widen not only in surprise and shock ... but also in terror.

"Their child was there, with them."

She sees a boy, around 11 years old, on his knees as tears fall down onto his pants as he sobs. Natasha remembers how this mission should go. No witnesses.

The boy slowly raises his head and looks at her. Her heart does something that hasn't done in a long time. It breaks. She slowly raises her pistol and aims it at the boy. She looks through the small scope on the guna the kids face.

The boy returns the glance with his sadden one, traumatized one as tears start to fall faster as his sobbing increases. That was the moment that broke Natasha.

"I couldn't do it." - She exclaims. "I finally cracked. I couldn't go through with it, breaking out of my conditioning. That's why I joined SHIELD."

END OF FLASHBACK

Natasha looks away as Yelena stares at her after what she has heard."I was supposed to do far worse things than that. That never broke me out of brainwashing."

Nat turns back to look at her. "I was the first, so Dreykow hasnt perfected the process back then." - She argues back.

"It was obvious it was flawed because I broke out of it, but now he has perfected it on you and other widows." - She sighs out as she remembers the look on the widows face before she killed herself unwantedly.

"At least now we have a chance to free them all." - Yelena says as both of them look at the vials again as Natasha moves over to hear to patch up Yelena's wound. "Is that all there is left?"

"Mmm-hmm. It's the only thing that can stop Dreykov and his network of widows." - She winces as Nat lightly applies the pressure on the wound to see if it still bleeds. Then Yelena continues.

"He takes more every day. Children who don't have anyone to protect them. Just like us when we were small. Maybe one in 20 survives the training, becomes a widow. The rest, he kills. To him, we are just things. Weapons with no face that he can just throw away. Because there is always more."

Natasha listens to her as she patches up her wound. "And no one's even looking for him, thanks to you and Alexei."

Natasha finishes with bandaging and goes back to her seat. She takes a swing of the beer as they look at the children playing across the street while their parents watch over them.

A father in his garage puts away his keys and turns off the lights as he carries his son out of the garage.

"Did you ever look for your parents? Your real ones?" - Younger sister asked.

"Well, my mom abandoned me in the street like garbage." - Older sister answered. "What about you?"

"They destroyed my birth certificate, so I reinvented it." - She ligtly smiled as she picked her bottle of beer. "My parents still live in Ohio. My sister moved out west."

Natsha chuckles at that as a smile appears on her face. "Is that right?"

"You're a science teacher. You're working part-time, though, especially after you had your son. Your husband, he renovates houses."

"That is not my story." - She shakes her head as she replies which Yelena laughs at.

"What is your story?"

"I never let myself be alone long enough to think about it." - She shakes her head as she explains.

"Did you ever wish for kids?" - She asks as she gets up to take her vest she brought. Natasha doesn't know what to say at that, but she doesn't have to as Yelena continues. "I want a dog." - Natasha smiles at that sentence.

" Where you gonna go?" - She asked.

"I don't know. I don't really have anywhere to go back to, so I guess anywhere." - Blonde replied.

Natasha sat up and rested her elbows on the table. Her sister shook her head at it. "Don't."

"Don't what?"

Yelena chuckles. "You're going to give me some big hero speech, I can feel it."

"Speeches aren't really my thing."

"Huh."

"It was more like an invitation." - Blonde looks down at her hands. "To go to the Red Room and kill Dreykov?"

"Yeah."

"Even though the Red Room is impossible to find and Dreykov is too slippery to kill?" - She quizzes.

"Yeah."

"That sounds like a shitload of work."

"Yup." - Red head sighs. "Could be fun, though."

"Yup." - Yelena lightly smiles at that her sister is finally accepting to join onto her journey.

Natasha rests her chin on top of her hand as she spares a quick glance at the garage. "I saw where he put the keys."

Yelena smirks, remembering where the keys were stored."Top drawer, green cabinet."

Two sisters smiled as they clinked their bottles before taking a sip of beer.
