❛ᴄʜᴀᴘᴛᴇʀ 3

It had already been two days since the encounter with Jungkook. Gladly, she didn't run into him in the hallway while walking back to her apartment. Her mind was already messed up and she didn't want to talk to him to make it worse. However, somewhere in her heart, she definitely wanted to know why he was cheating on her best friend.

It was time for university, and fortunately, Yerin wasn't late like the other days. She made her way towards the elevator and stepped inside once the doors opened. The doors were closing when one hand interrupted them.

She looked ahead but encountered the person she despised the most at the moment. He entered the elevator and pressed the close button. Her mind told her to exit the elevator, but before she could make the move, the doors were already closed, locking them in a small space.

They both stood in two distant corners while the elevator seemed to move at a painfully slow speed for Yerin. The air became thick and Jungkook decided to utter some words.

"So, you had a boyfriend?"

She scoffed at the audacity of him asking such a question when he himself had a girlfriend.

"Look who is asking?" she muttered while rolling her eyes. She looked at the floor number, which showed the 2nd floor.

He chuckled darkly before making a statement that added fuel to her anger, "Don't act like you didn't enjoy that."

"Mind your own business, bastard," she raised her voice, instantly regretting it after witnessing the next step taken by Jungkook.

He lunged forward and clicked the 'Emergency stop' button on the panel. Her eyes widened when the elevator came to an halt abruptly, and a loud siren went off.

"What the heck are you doing?" she asked, but instead of getting an answer, she was cornered by him. He caged her with his palms resting on the wall of the elevator while his eyes glared at her. The siren was so loud that it made her deaf for a moment.

"Did you forget who approached whom?" he muttered harshly, while she looked at him with anger clouding her eyes.

"If I had known that you were my best friend's boyfriend, I would have never approached you in the first place," she spat the words harshly. "The thing is that you were dating someone but still agreed to sleep with a random girl."

He looked at her blankly as he replied, "Weren't you also dating and had a boyfriend? But you still had the courage to ask a random man for a night."

She pushed him away, while tears started pricking her eyes. She raised her voice at him, "I had my own reasons, but why did you agree?"

"Okay, let me ask you one thing, and you need to answer it honestly," he looked into her eyes before continuing, "There were hundreds of men there. Why did you choose me? Reason?"

She blinked away the tears, not wanting to break down in front of him. "You looked lonely like me. Your eyes held the same emotion as me."

The siren stopped, and the elevator started moving. Maybe the security team had already reset the button, making Yerin internally sigh in relief.

He looked at her, his eyes softening a little as he said, "I guess now you know the reason."

The elevator dinged open, making Yiren step out of the small space, ignoring all the questions from the security team. Jungkook stepped out and told them that her dress had gotten stuck and that they had stopped it to avoid any injury. He quickly walked away after giving the reason.

"Nowadays, youngsters take everything as a joke. They think we are idiots and won't know what they are doing. Brats," the old man muttered before walking back to his table.

Yerin wasn't expecting to end up here. Mina dragged her to a cafe for some hangouts, and of course, she invited Eunwoo and Jungkook, too. The boys sat on one side of the table while the girls sat on the other side.

Yerin ignored Jungkook at the university the whole time. He kept staring at her in the cafeteria, but she refused to look at him. When she thought that she was actually done with the day, Mina decided to plan this unexpected hangout.

Mina went to the washroom as their orders were taking time, leaving Yerin alone with the boys. Suddenly, a mobile rang, and it was found to be Eunwoo's. He glanced at Yerin before walking out to attend the call. Yerin assumed that it was his father.

The atmosphere became more tense when she realized that she was sitting alone with Jungkook. The event from the morning clouded her mind, prompting her to initiate the conversation.

"Eunwoo and I are not in a real relationship."

Jungkook glanced at her in confusion, prompting her to continue with the statement, "We are in a forced relationship due to our parents. Both of our fathers are businessmen, and like any typical businessman, they want us to get married to make their companies more profitable. They gave us one year to get to know each other, which indirectly meant dating, before answering for the marriage."

Jungkook looked at her carefully, while she stared into blank space. He listened intently as she continued after taking a deep breath, "Eunwoo told me that he wants to fall in love with someone naturally and not forcefully. He told me in our second meeting not to expect anything from him. We are just dating for our parents."

Tears brimmed her eyes as she completed her explanation. She just wanted to make it clear to Jungkook that she was not at fault as much as he was. She knew it was wrong to do so, even though Eunwoo wasn't actually her boyfriend, but she just wanted to forget the reality of that night. She was already tired of her parents' mindset. They just cared about their business and not their own child. Even after the sudden proposal about the dating thing, she thought that at least she would get love from Eunwoo, but her hopes shattered after hearing his views. She still tried to make him love her, but he never looked at her that way. He cared for her, but just as a friend.

Jungkook understood her feelings and nodded his head in acknowledgement. He got to know her reason.

She looked at him before asking, "You know my reason. Now tell me why the hell are you cheating on my best friend? She is just a pure soul. I feel pity for her that she doesn't know about your dirty tactics."

He sighed loudly before saying, "I don't need to tell you that."

She frowned at his response before lashing out at him, "Now that you know my reason, you are being ignorant. Why don't you just say that you are a freaking cheater?"

He scoffed at her, "I never asked about your reason. You told me of your own will."

She gritted her teeth but sat quietly when she realized that he never asked for her reason. She was just making a fool out of herself. Once again, she regretted spitting all the info about her and Eunwoo.

Soon, Eunwoo joined the table, followed by their orders and Mina. The place was soon filled with Mina's chatter and laughter. Yerin looked at her, feeling guilty. Mina definitely didn't deserve Jungkook in Yerin's view. However, Yerin found herself helpless. She couldn't tell Mina that Jungkook cheated on her because, mistakenly or not, he cheated on Mina with Yerin, her own best friend.
