Envious Endeavours

✦✧✦

They say I may be making a mistake
I would've followed all the way, no matter how far
I know when you go down all your darkest roads
I would've followed all the way to the graveyard

Oh, 'cause I keep diggin' myself down deeper
I won't stop 'til I get where you are
I keep running when both my feet hurt
I won't stop 'til I get where you are
Oh, when you go down all your darkest roads
I would've followed all the way to the graveyard

Aurelia let out a loud groan when she heard the incessant ringing of her phone placed on the bedside table.

Rolling onto her side in her sleep, she decided to ignore it as she pulled the duvet over her head and snuggled up again.

Just as she had began to feel the sweet arrival of drowsiness, the phone rang again and she cussed on top of her voice before snatching it and picking it up without checking the caller ID.

"WHAT?" She snapped angrily at whoever had decided to ruin her Sunday morning.

"Hello, to you too, Lia." An amused yet smooth voice spoke from the other end, making her roll her eyes.

"Fuck you, Kol!" She muttered as she heard him snicker.

"Of course, you want to. I mean, have you seen me?" Kol remarked cheekily making her bury her head in the pillow.

"What do you want?" She questioned with a scowl.

"You are in a foul mood today. I already feel sad for the people you might end up killing."

She scoffed, rolling her eyes, "I might just start with you if you don't tell me the purpose of this stupid call, Kol Mikaelson."

Kol chuckled, "okay, okay, I'll get to the point." He stated in surrender making her hum in satisfaction.

"Why did I just recieve an e-mail saying that a Petrova doppelganger exists?"

Lia's eyes widened at that, "what? From whom?" She questioned.

"Rose-Marie, I believe."

"The vampire who helped Katherine escape, five-hundred-years ago?" She asked furrowing her brows.

"Yeah," Kol answered, "technically it was her lackey who helped your precious Katerina. It was Rose's blood that turned her."

Aurelia rolled her eyes, "I don't know who did what, jackass. I left the palace a few days before the ritual."

"Ah, yes, you and Nik were having marital crisis." He quipped before his voice turned serious, "so, is this true? About the doppelganger?" He questioned.

"What makes you think that I know that?" She asked quirking an eyebrow up.

She heard him snort, "this involves a curse that Nik has wanted to break for a thousand years. If anyone knows anything about this, it's you." He retorted.

Aurelia clicked her tongue, "well, technically it was Rebekah who found intel on this doppelganger."

She could practically hear the youngest Mikaelson brother rolling his eyes, "does the Petrova exist or not?" He asked which sounded more like a whine.

Aurelia shook her head at his impatience, "she does. I saw her myself."

"And where is she exactly?"

"Mystic Falls." Aurelia mumbled in a bored tone as she checked her nails.

Kol let out a sound of surprise, "that bloody town never fails to amaze me." He said exhaling, "so, I presume that you are on your way to find my manwhore of a brother?"

Aurelia bit the inside of her cheek at that, "no, actually, I'm in Mystic Falls, keeping an eye on Elena before finding Niklaus."

"Elena?" Kol asked in confusion, making her roll her eyes.

"The doppelganger, Kol." She breathed.

"Oh." Kol said sheepishly, "by the way, are you still going to continue this charade of being cross with Nik?" He asked immediately.

Aurelia felt her palms starting to get clammy, "what do you mean?" She asked in a steady voice, however her heart told a different story.

"Oh, come on, Lia. You really want me to believe that you and Nik have truly parted ways?"

"We haven't seen each other in years, Kol."

"Yes, I am well aware of that." He muttered, "however, what I refuse to believe that the reason behind this is truly what you want us to think."

"He broke my heart, Kol." She tried to sound believable.

"Ravenas cannot survive a broken heart, Lia. They either go mad or they die; you told me that." He reminded her making her scrunch her eyes and exhale shaking her head.

Sometimes he was too smart for his own good.

Kol took a deep breath, "look, sister, you gave this family a new life. You gave me a reason to go on. One that I truly needed. So, whatever is going on between you two, you can tell me."

Aurelia's eyes watered for a moment before she shook her head, "nothing is going on, Kol. Everything's fine." She smiled, even though he could not see her.

"Fine." Kol huffed in defeat, "just know that me and Elijah will always be there for you. No matter what it is that forced our favorite couple to grow apart." He said with conviction.

Aurelia chuckled, "I know, little brother. I know." She breathed before gathering her emotions, "so, will you be joining us in Mystic Falls?" She asked.

Kol sighed, "I'm afraid not. Not for a while, at least. I just had to inform you, knowing that you'll take care of it." He said cheekily.

Aurelia shook her head, "don't worry, I will." She said before remembering something, "how's the new guy?" She asked teasingly.

He barked out a laugh, "his name is Josh and well, he is adorable." He said in a dazed tone, making her smile.

"You're cute when you're in love, kid." She commented.

"I'm not a kid." He grumbled, "nor am I in love."

Aurelia shook her head, "keep telling yourself that."

Court of Ravenia; 1003 A.D.

Aurelia sat near the foot of an old willow tree as she braided Rebekah's hair, whilst Elijah sat on a bench near the lake, holding Adonis.

It was the beginning of spring as the days began to get longer and the gentle breeze eased everyone's minds.

Aurelia had never been more content in her life than in the past one year that she had spent with the Mikaelson siblings.

Their identities still remained a secret to everyone but her, Rozzaro and, Lucien and she deflected Mikael with her magic, whenever he got anywhere near Ravenia.

Much to the amazement of the Originals, they had discovered that she could create hallucinations in people's minds irrespective of the physical distance between them or if she had ever met them or not.

The only thing needed for her spell was something belonging to the person whose thoughts she wanted to alter.

So far, she had managed to keep them all safe, under her roof as they each unknowingly became a part of her heart.

She was closest to Kol and Elijah where Elijah was the voice of reason in her life and Kol was the voice of mischief.

They were literally like an angel and a demon sitting on both her shoulders. At least, that was the analogy used by Rozzaro for the trio.

Rebekah was like the younger sister she had always hoped Aurora would be. At all costs, Aurelia wanted to keep the blonde Mikaelson girl protected. She absolutely adored her.

Finn, was a whole another story, altogether. She didn't exactly despise him, but the way he deliberately tried to get Mikael's attention so the destroyer would come and kill him, didn't exactly plead his case.

The only reason she ever conversed with the elder Mikaelson was either out of pity or to threaten him.

Bringing Mikael into her kingdom was the last thing she wanted.

What was more complicated than her bond with Finn, was her bond with Niklaus.

He was different.

He made her feel emotions she didn't know she could. He aggravated her and excited her at the same time.

He challenged her and made her feel vulnerable.

And she wasn't habitual to feeling either of those things.

The more time she spent alone with the blue-eyed Mikaelson, the more he seemed to cave his way inside her heart.

She had begun to understand things about him that made her question her own beliefs.

But, even if all of her cells screamed at her to let him in, she couldn't. It was difficult to resist his charms, but she was a strong willed woman and she was not going to abandon her duties for the notions of love.

It was too big of a risk.

"There, Bekah." Aurelia said, tucking in the last lily in her braid, "all done." She tilted her head to smile at the younger girl.

"How do you know such beautiful styles, Lia?" Rebekah gushed as she turned around and looked into the mirror that the Ravena was holding up for her.

Lia giggled, "my mother taught me." She answered.

"Then why do you never let your hair down?" Rebekah asked with a pout as she pointed to Aurelia's signature crown braid that always sat on her head.

No one even knew how long Aurelia's hair even were.

Aurelia smiled, "because a queen should always be in immaculate appearance." She recited in a rehearsed voice making Rebekah shake her head.

The women were interrupted when they heard giggles and laughter causing them to turn their heads as they saw Aurora running through the open field with her ladies behind her.

Rebekah let a sarcastic smile spread on her face, "at least she's doing something other than annoying you."

Aurelia chuckled, "you don't like her very much, do you?" She asked.

Rebekah shruged, "I don't like how she treats you. You deserve a better sister."

Aurelia quirked an eyebrow at that and smirked, "maybe that is why God sent you here." She suggested making the Mikaelson giggle.

"Look, Addie is making his way to us." Rebekah pointed out as they watched Adonis clutching both of Elijah's hands whilst slowly cruising towards where his mother sat.

Adonis had begun to learn walking quicker than other infants his age and this rejoiced Aurelia like nothing else.

Aurelia opened her arms as she gestured with her palms to bring Adonis to her, "hi, my little king, how was your day with Elijah?" She cooed as the child cackled just before jumping in her arms with an 'oomph'.

Rebekah and Elijah chuckled seeing them, "oh, just another day babysitting this gem, with me having to need a change of clothes, obviously." He remarked as he sat down beside Lia with his back against the tree.

Aurelia chuckled before she continued to make funny faces to her son.

"There's Nik, with Kol!" Rebekah exclaimed as they saw the brothers making their way to them.

Aurelia met Niklaus' gaze as she felt a sudden warmth creep into her chest when she saw those troubled yet soulful eyes.

She slightly smiled at him which he was about to reciprocate when suddenly he was hit by a force that made him lose his footing and he fell backwards with the person who hit him.

Looking up, he found it to be Aurora.

Refraining the urge to groan, he cleared his throat, "Lady Aurora, I'm sorry, I wasn't looking." He said as he tried to get up while also removing her from top of himself.

"Oh, no, it was Penelope's fault. She pushed me!" Aurora exclaimed as she stood up with him.

He had to restrain stepping back, considering how close she stood whilst looking at him with dreamy eyes.

His siblings and Aurelia watched as Aurora engaged him in conversation.

"Well, he seems to be somehow enjoying her presence." Rebekah remarked distastefully.

"Yes, they have grown close, haven't they?" Elijah commented whilst gazing at Aurelia who tried to pretend that she wasn't listening.

Rebekah huffed, "I'm going to go save my brother. Trust me, he does not need that De Martel in his life." She said before leaving.

Kol and Elijah immediately turned to Aurelia who was sitting quietly as she watched a sleeping Adonis.

"Aurelia." Kol sang her name, "what do you feel about Niklaus and Aurora's growing friendship?" He questioned.

Aurelia gave him a dumbfounded look, "why would it matter to me who my sister is friends with?"

"Not your sister." Elijah pointed out, clicking his tongue, "Niklaus."

Aurelia rolled her eyes, "why would I care who he is friends with?" She snapped.

"To point out the obvious, Niklaus isn't actually friends with Aurora. She loves him, Lucien loves her and my poor brother is stuck in the middle, trying to be polite because you asked us to not make your siblings suspicious." Kol cleared up making Elijah roll his eyes.

"All that was exactly what you said, Kol: obvious." He muttered before turning to Aurelia who was glancing at Niklaus engaged in conversation.

Apparently, Rebekah could not persuade Aurora to leave her brother alone.

Aurelia had a frown on her lips which made Elijah smirk.

"Kol?" He called out still looking at the Ravena as she and Kol both turned to him, "she's jealous." He stated flatly.

Kol smirked as Aurelia gaped at them, "why in bloody hell would I be jealous?" She gasped.

"You are. The 'why' does not matter." Elijah shrugged making her narrow her eyes at him.

"I am not!"

"You are."

"No, I'm not!"

"You so are!" Kol and Elijah said in unison making her glare at them.

She huffed as she picked Adonis up and stomped away fuming whilst they laughed.

Niklaus was just making his way to where she had been sitting when he saw her leave.

Disheartened, he shook his head.

He had wished to be able to spend some time with her.

Aurora spoiled that.

"Hi, Mrs. Martinez!" Matt greeted the raven-haired beauty as she came to sit by the bar.

"Hi, Matt," she smiled at the boy, "and, this is not school. You can call me Aurelia."

Matt chuckled and nodded, "what can I get you?" He asked sliding her a menu.

She waved it off, "I'd like to have a Bourbon, please. And some curly fries."

Matt furrowed his brows at the odd combination but nodded nonetheless before disappearing as she opened her phone to find no messages left from her husband.

She frowned at that.

Where are you busy today?

She quickly sent the text just as her drink was placed in front of her and she nodded to Matt in gratitude.

"Lia!" She heard someone call as she turned to find Jenna making her way to her.

The noirette immediately smiled in delight when she saw her.

Soon after the parent-teacher conference, the women had met a few more times before they developed a closely knit friendship which involved spending weekends together, just like this one.

"God, you have no idea how busy today has been!" Jenna exclaimed as she sat down after ordering some food for herself.

Aurelia raised an eyebrow at that, "don't tell me that you got roped into helping Mrs. Lockwood with that charity thing!"

Jenna groaned downing her scotch, "I did! God, children are obnoxious."

Aurelia chuckled, "says the guardian to two teenagers." She quipped making Jenna roll her eyes.

Jenna looked around before lowering her voice, "you were right."

Aurelia's eyes widened slightly, "with, what exactly? I'm usually right so you have to tell me the instance." She smirked.

"About the whole supernatural stuff." Jenna whispered again like it was some criminal activity.

Aurelia shook her head, "I told you I would look out for you, Jen." She said smiling, "how did you confirm my words, though?"

Jenna gulped, "I might have used my eavesdropping skills to overhear a conversation between Mason Lockwood and the Sheriff."

"Which was...?" Aurelia asked narrowing her eyes thoughtfully.

"Apparently Mason has some bad blood with the Salvatores. He spiked their drinks with vervain in order to reveal their identity to Liz." She replied making her eyes widen.

"What happened then? Liz must have killed them." She questioned, knowing well that Katherine would not like this piece of news.

Jenna shook her head, "Caroline saved them."

Aurelia gave her a suspicious look, "and how do you know that?" She asked pointedly.

Jenna smiled sheepishly, "I may or may not have followed them to see what was going on."

Aurelia's eyes widened, "WHAT?" She shrieked before looking around as she gave apologetic smiles to people around them, "you followed them?" She asked incredulously, turning back to Jenna.

"I wanted to see for myself." Jenna shrugged.

Aurelia facepalmed herself, "Jen, I did not tell you about all this so you could go on putting your life in danger. I wanted you to be safe, in case something happens." She scolded.

"Oh, come on, Lia! I am involved already. As much as I hate it, that my niece is dating a vampire and is friends with a witch and an un-triggered werewolf." Jenna grumbled.

Lia shook her head, taking Jenna's hand in hers, "Jen, you're my friend. Which is why I told you about this world because I didn't want you to be caught in the open with no clue of what's happening. But if you go putting yourself in danger, be sure that I will hocus-pocus your ass and make you forget everything."

Jenna looked at her with a pout before huffing and nodding, "fine! But I will make Elena regret not telling me in the first place."

Aurelia smiled, "when the time comes, I will give you the opportunity myself so you could have your sweet little revenge!"

Jenna chuckled and nodded.

"So, you're a Ravena?" Jenna asked curiously.

Aurelia nodded, "that, or you can call me the Raven Witch."

"So, you're a witch?" Jenna asked in confusion.

"More like the queen of all witches and sworn protector of werewolves, but, titles titles." She answered waving her hand in dismissal.

She chuckled when she saw Jenna's gobsmacked face.

"And your son, Adonis," Aurelia nodded, "what is he?" Jenna asked.

"He was sired by me."

"Sired? As in what you told me about vampires creating more of themselves?" Jenna asked making the Ravena shake her head.

"No," Aurelia paused to find the right words, "I can sire someone by giving them a piece of my magic which gives them some of my abilities and a few gifts of their own."

Jenna was now intrigued.

"So, how does it work?" She immediately asked in curiosity.

"It's an elaborate ritual. And, when I sire someone, I control what abilities they will have and I hold the power to end them. But, because there should always be a balance in nature, there are other things that could kill my sirelings." She replied.

"And what about you? Is there anything that can hurt you... permanently?" Jenna asked in hesitation.

Aurelia knew without even looking into her thoughts that Jenna was asking out of interest and not any ulterior motives. Jenna was not a soul who would disguise their malice with friendship. And Aurelia knew that.

"Heartbreak." Aurelia answered with a bitter smile, "every Ravena used to have a weakness. But when our clan fell because the queen was betrayed by the man she loved, the ancestors made love, my weakness."

Jenna's eyes widened, "that's a bit extreme, don't you think?"

Aurelia chuckled, "sometimes, yeah. But I understand why they did it."

Jenna squinted her eyes in confusion, "why? I don't understand why anyone would make love someone's weakness, when it is so clearly a strength."

Aurelia gave her an impressed smile. The strawberry-blonde never stopped fascinating the Ravena.

Jenna just had a light in her that made her so different from others.

"The Ravenas were creators of love and passion, and magic in this world. We believed in love; we thrived because of it," Aurelia stated, "but when love led to our extinction, it changed the morals we thought upon."

"So, then, you being their savior, were born with love as your weakness?" Jenna asked making her nod.

"Precisely," she piped up, "it was to ensure that I would never let love be the reason of our downfall again. Knowing that if I was ever betrayed, I would die."

"But, you did fall in love, right? Because there is no way in hell am I ready to accept that you've spent a thousand years alone!" Jenna exclaimed in a baffled tone.

Aurelia snickered, but before she could reply, they were joined by Katherine.

"Kat!" Aurelia greeted but Katherine turned to look Jenna in the eyes, instead.

"I need you to stab yourself when I call Elena, today." Katherine compelled her. Aurelia just sat back and watched as Jenna looked at Katherine with a blank face before giving her a bitch grin.

"Nice try, Katherine. But, I'm on vervain, again." Jenna smirked.

Katherine turned to give Aurelia a look of disbelief, "did you fucking tell her, everything?"

Aurelia just sipped her drink and nodded, "can't let you kill the few good people of this town, Kat." She shrugged.

Katherine crossed her arms on her chest, "so, what then? She your new bestie?" She jabbed.

"You sound jealous, Katherine." Jenna commented earning a glare from the Petrova.

"You—"

Katherine was about to lunge at her before Aurelia slammed her drink on the table and dragged Katherine away, after passing Jenna an apologetic smile.

"Relax, Katherine. Jenna is harmless." She tried to reason.

Katherine only gave her an impassive look, "she was a part of my plans to send a message."

Aurelia rolled her eyes, "I'm sure you will find another way, Kat." She stated, "one that doesn't involve Jenna or Jeremy." She added.

Katherine pouted, "oh, come on! At least, let me use litttle Gilbert."

Aurelia shook her head, "Elena has plenty of people close to her that you can use. Leave them out of it!" She demanded.

Katherine gave her a glare before groaning, "you've claimed Jenna and Jeremy, Addie has asked me to not use Caroline. What the fuck am I supposed to do? Raise Elena's dead parents?" She whined.

Aurelia scoffed before thinking, "use John! He's her uncle, is he not?"

Katherine gave her a blank look, "she hates him!"

"Relax, she will get the message, even if you use John." Aurelia reassured her.

Katherine nodded, knowing that it was no use arguing, "Fine. I won't trouble your pretty friend." She said snidely making Aurelia roll her eyes before pecking Katherine's head.

"Good."

Katherine shook her head before smirking, "but that doesn't mean that I won't stir some trouble."

Aurelia's eyes widened as Katherine turned on her heel and made her way to where Jenna was sitting.

"Katherine, whatever you're about to do, don't!" Aurelia said coming up behind her as she stopped to give Jenna a devilish smile.

Jenna looked at them confused.

"Just so you know," Katherine voiced with arrogance, "Elena hid something other than the supernatural world from you."

Jenna furrowed her brows, as did Aurelia.

"John is Elena's biological father." Katherine revealed smirking before strutting away.

The women were too shocked to say anything as they met each other's gazes, "WHAT?" They gasped.

Hello, lovelies!! Here is another chapter for you beautiful souls!

I cannot believe that I am spending my lockdown period just writing. Like there is literally nothing I do other than that!

When I'm not writing, I'm usually sleeping, or reading a book, or eating.

Welp. These are the only things I like doing.

Question: have you read Angels and Demons by Dan Brown? Boyyy! I love that book, okay?

Now, coming onto this chapter.

Here is the much awaited Aurelia and Kol's bonding scene. I love her relationship with everyone, omg!! I seriously, I am so proud of this character of mine.

Another flashback, because I love writing them and it gives you all a view into how things started.

I HATE AURORA. That is nothing new. We all hate her.

But ughh! Seriously, jealous Lia is cute but we wanna see Lia falling in love, right??

Well, I promise, that'll happen soon too.

For now, just enjoy all the brotp moments in this family.

Okay, Jenna and Lia are friends because I was rewatching TVD and I was reminded of how precious Jenna is. And how she deserved better.

So, she knows all about the supernatural. Which, I had to debate myself over before the logical side of me, won.

This chapter also contained things about Aurelia's nature and abilities. I plan to slowly unveil all of them, which, I really hope I'm well.

Awwh, Katherine jealous of Jenna?

I seriously sense a strong brotp forming between these three women.

So, drop your views about this chapter and tell me your favorite scenes! I'd be delighted to know.

This chapter did not have much of grown-up Addie. But, the next one contains some beautiful scenes with him.

Vote, comment, and share.

With Love, Devu.

P.s. I might just fuck around and release a Kol ff after I've finished writing The Queen. Lol!
