Cosmic Love
✦✧✦
The stars, the moon, they have all been blown out
You left me in the dark
No dawn, no day, I'm always in this twilight
In the shadow of your heart
And in the dark, I can hear your heartbeat
I tried to find the sound
But then it stopped, and I was in the darkness,
So darkness I became.

Caroline twisted and turned on her bed as thoughts ran furiously inside her mind.
Thoughts about what she had become and what she did a few hours ago at the carnival.
Stefan had told her that he would help her learn control, but she wasn't so sure if she should trust him or not.
Especially considering that she was in this predicament because of him and Elena, herself; she was uncertain about whether they would truly protect her or not.
Just a few hours ago Damon had tried to kill her. She would have been dead if Elena hadn't stepped in, but even then, she knew that the Salvatore brothers would do anything Elena asked them to.
She already remembered how Damon had controlled her mind after his arrival in Mystic Falls. How he had used her, abused her and then chastised her with his words of frustration.
Because she was a vampire now, she remembered all of it.
And she hated Damon for that.
She hated Stefan and Elena for standing by and letting it all happen; for allowing Damon to continue to manipulate her mind for his own convenience.
They were all liars. They hid things according to their own gains and revealed them when they deemed it just.
Even Bonnie went to Elena with her secret about being a witch. And now, the Bennett had refused to even look at Caroline after her transition.
But who was Caroline kidding? She had always known that her best friends were both hypocrites who liked to be in control of the situation; Elena more than Bonnie.
Caroline knew she had an image of being the neurotic, control freak, blonde girl of the town; what others didn't know were all the insecurities deep rooted inside her that made her that way.
What they—
Caroline's thoughts halted when she heard the leaves rustle outside her bedroom window.
She immediately knew someone was trying to sneak inside her home.
Alarmed, she sped to stand against the wall adjacent to the window in order to catch the intruder.
Her eyes widened when she saw a blond-haired man standing in front of her with dashing features and glimmering blue-green orbs.
He smirked at her, "Caroline."
Her lips parted in surprise before she breathed his name, "Adonis."
Adonis let another sigh escape his lips as he played games on his phone while glancing frequently towards a very dead blonde girl, waiting for her to wake up again.
If he was being honest, he did not know why he was still at the hospital after Katherine had left hours ago.
Even Aurelia had called him twice by now and knowing how much she worried about him, even after a thousand years, he should have just gone back to her.
Instead, he was waiting for Caroline to come back to life so he could help her complete the transition.
When he parted ways from Katherine, he had told her that he was going for a stroll. He had given Aurelia the same excuse.
But here he was, sitting on the couch in Caroline's hospital room and he knew that Aurelia would understand why he stayed.
She knew him well enough to understand that he hated making someone innocent suffer for his personal gain.
Now, he was no saint and he was just as ruthless to his enemies as the rest of the Mikaelsons. However, he always tried to minimize any loss of human life. Especially innocent.
A trait that he recieved from Aurelia and certainly not Niklaus, as stated repeatedly by the rest of their family.
He was idly trying some new Snapchat filters when he heard the heart monitor beep again, which was then followed by a sudden intake of breath.
Placing his phone in his backpocket again, he walked over to her as she rubbed her eyes before focusing her gaze on him.
He could see her pale blue eyes with specks of golden present here and there. At the moment, they looked dull and exhausted.
"Who are you?" She questioned cautiously as she reached for the button to alarm the nurse but Adonis moved it away from her grasp.
"That's not important. We need to talk." He muttered, already knowing that this was going to be more difficult than he imagined.
"Excuse me? I don't even know you!" She spat before she started looking around for an escape.
"Would you please relax?" He muttered rolling his eyes as he watched her get out of bed and put a few good feet between them.
"Oh, you're lurking creepily in my hospital room, in the middle of the night and you want me to relax?" She vexed looking at him with wide, baffled eyes.
"I have no intentions to hurt you, Caroline." He said taking a step towards her but he only saw her flinch back.
"Said every serial killer ever."
Adonis chuckled, "You're not stupid, I'll give you that." He said shaking his head.
"Look, whatever freakshow fantasy you have, I don't care. You need to leave before I scream because trust me, I've got some lungs!" She threatened before picking up a vase and wielding it up for defence.
Adonis broke into laughter making her look at him with a frustrated expression on her face.
"Caroline, would you relax? I just want to talk." He said stifling his snickers as she eyed him warily.
"Talk about what?" She sneered, still staying away from him.
He sighed. She wasn't one to back down without a proper explanation.
"Do you remember anything from when you were awake before this?" He asked inquisitively.
Caroline furrowed her brows as she looked to the floor, trying to remember. Her eyes widened and she backed away again.
"Elena killed me! I was dead." She breathed, "She said her name was Katherine."
"Bingo!" He said with a clap earning a glare from her as he smiled apologetically.
"How am I standing? Oh my God, I'm a ghost, aren't I? I'm dead?" She started to ramble, taking her head in her hands.
Adonis watched her freaking out and made his way to place his hands on her shoulders in sympathy.
"Caroline!" He said affirmly, "Breathe."
She immediately relaxed when his eyes turned a brilliant golden color and she felt her heart slowing down and a sense of calm spread through her veins.
"How did you do that?" She whispered after a while, taking deep breaths as Adonis' eyes turned back to their calm oceanic appearances.
"I will tell you everything. You just need to trust me." He replied with sincerity shining through his features.
She raised an eyebrow towards him but he could see her resolve breaking.
He smiled, "Because I'm the only one who is going to tell you the truth about this town."

"Why are you here?" Caroline asked Adonis, leading him inside her room.
Adonis smiled as he handed her a fresh bloodbag.
Her eyes glimmered with surprise and relief as she snatched it from him and started gulping down the O-neg.
He chuckled at her eagerness before his eyes roamed over to her room, he smiled, "Cute."
"You have no idea how hungry I was! And my mom would kill me if she found out!" Caroline gushed when she stopped for a moment before resuming.
He laughed, flopping onto her mattress, "That would be tragic." He commented making her glare at him. He gave her a sheepish smile.
Once Caroline was finished, she pulled up the chair from her desk and sat down facing him.
"I killed someone tonight." She breathed, without meeting his gaze as she fidgeted with the rings on her fingers.
"I know." He murmured.
Her head shot up towards him, "You knew? Why didn't you stop me?" She snapped.
He flinched at her shrill voice, "I was about to. But then, Damon came and I would have risked him catching me."
Her shoulders relaxed listening to that, "Why are you so afraid of that?"
Adonis snorted, "Yeah, I'm not afraid of anything, darling. Just looking out for the bigger goal."
Caroline examined him with sharp eyes which held endless questions, "That plan you were talking about," he nodded, "what is it?" She asked.
He exhaled, "Nothing you need to worry about yet. You'll know when the time is right."
She scowled, obviously not satisfied by his answer but she knew better than to press further.
They sat in silence before Adonis spoke up again, "Don't think that way."
Her eyes widened slightly at the abrupt statement, "What do you mean?" She asked, taken aback.
"Don't think of yourself as a murderer. That guy, wasn't your fault. New vampires cannot control their predatory instincts." He explained.
"How did you know—"
"I can hear thoughts." Her eyes widened and jaw dropped listening to his answer. He snickered.
"Wha—"
"No, I am not like Edward Cullen." He immediately mentioned when he heard her next thought, shocking her further.
He smiled before speaking again, "My powers don't let me listen to every thought in the room. Only the thoughts of the people who I know; people who trust me. And those holding ill intentions towards me." He informed, "Only in these two situations, can I listen to someone's thoughts."
She nodded with a dazed look in her eyes as she tried to grasp on to that knowledge.
He chuckled, "Yeah, I know it's a lot of information for one day."
Her own lips tilted into a ghost of a smile as she looked at him, "Why are you helping me?"
"Because you didn't deserve any of the things that have happened to you." He answered.
"But Katherine, she's your friend. Why didn't you stop her when she was doing this to me?" She questioned with her voice getting heavy towards the end.
He frowned, "It's all a part of a greater order, Caroline. As much as I don't like the term collateral damage, Katherine has made you exactly that. The least I can do is, help you."
She scoffed, shaking her head, "Well, at least you don't sugarcoat things like everyone else."
He nodded, smiling back at her.

"Hello, love."
Aurelia smiled, closing her eyes as she held the phone against her ear, "Hello, mi corazón."
"You sound stressed." He muttered, his voice came thoughtful and concerned.
She sighed, "High school kids eat at my brain!"
His melodious chuckle came through the device making her heart skip a beat, "I take it that Adonis isn't around."
"Why do you think I called you?" She scoffed, "I have no idea where he is."
She heard him gasp dramatically, "Reina, what did you do to my adorable son?" He joked.
"I sold him to zealots for the ultimate weapon to kill you." She replied in the same tone before he burst into laughter and she snickered along with him.
"On a serious note, he's has been out and about for two days now. Knowing him, he'll fess up sooner or later." She said after a few moments that their laughter died down.
"I do hope he is okay. I would hate to not be able to help him if something happens." He whispered making her smile. He always worried so much about Adonis, same as her.
"Don't worry, papa bear, he's okay. I'll tell you if there's something to worry about."
He rolled his eyes, "I still hate that name."
She chuckled, "By the way, your brother started dating this super cute, human guy recently. They're adorable."
Niklaus hummed, "And, which brother of mine are we talking about? Because either of them dating a human could end up being tragic."
Aurelia made a sound of agreement, "Well, considering that Elijah swore off men in the 60's, I'd say Kol."
"Really? Well, at least he changed his taste from witches."
She laughed at that, "Come on, you know how much he loves to perform magic with them."
He nodded, "That he does."
"Mrs. Martinez." She heard someone call from behind her and turned around to find one of her students.
"I'll call you back, mi amor." She spoke to Niklaus making him groan in disapproval when she hung up.
"Hi, Jeremy, right?" Aurelia asked as she smiled politely from behind her desk.
He nodded, "You asked me to come to you regarding my grades." He said hesitantly.
She nodded before going to find the last assignment he had submitted to the previous teacher and sighed.
Shaking her head, she threw it away into the trash can making him look at her baffled.
"So, Jeremy, are you a writer or are you an artist?" She asked inquisitively.
He raised an eyebrow at that, "What makes you think I'm either?"
"Because you look like you've been through a lot and I say that as a compliment. You're a warrior. And warriors always need something to anchor their thoughts. So, which one are you? A writer or an artist?" She asked again with a smirk.
He was too surprised to say anything before he cleared his throat, "An artist. But I enjoy writing occasionally."
She hummed, "I'll tell you what," she said, opening her drawer and slamming a roughed up copy of 'The Great Gatsby' in front of him, "give me your read on this. Blatant thoughts. No sugarcoating stuff or romanticizing. Write me a good critique from your point of view, and we can give you a fresh start."
"You would do that?" He asked in shock as he picked up the book and saw it over.
"Yeah, I would. This is one of my favorite novels and no one has been able to write a critique compelling enough to impress me. Write me a solid document with potential, consider your slate wiped." She challenged.
He let out a chuckle and nodded eagerly, "Alright, what's the deadline?"
"A week." He smiled before taking a leave. She chuckled shaking her head.
Schools really needed to stop pressurising the students so much. The poor guy was practically shaking when he entered.
She was about to open her phone again when Adonis entered the room and shut the door after him as Aurelia stood up, crossing her arms on her chest.
"Anything you want to tell me?" She snapped.
"Yes, I know I have been very shady since last two nights but I was helping Caroline." He answered sitting on top of a desk in front of her.
"The girl Kat turned into a vampire?" She asked furrowing her brows and he nodded, "Since when did you start helping random people?"
He rolled his eyes, "She was clueless, okay? And being clueless and a new vampire gets you killed in our world."
She gave him a blank look before narrowing her eyes at him, "No, there's something else."
"What? No! Nothing else is going on, I already told you—"
She gasped interrupting him, "You like her!"
His eyes widened, "What? No!"
She smirked, "You've been saying that a lot, son."
He rolled his eyes, "Look, I don't like her. I just met her and I feel bad for her."
She scoffed, "Darling, the only time you feel bad is when Rebekah kicks your ass for stealing her dates."
"Because she's a petty little bi—"
"Geez, calm down, tiger!" She said laughing, "Anyway, if you do like Caroline, don't you think we should stop considering her for the ritual?"
He narrowed his eyes at her, "I don't like her." He muttered making her smirk, "And as far as the ritual goes, we'll see after Nik comes to town."
She looked at him for a moment before nodding, deciding to let go of the topic, "Tell me, is Katherine keeping tabs on Elena?"
Adonis nodded, "Elena has gone to Duke with the elder Salvatore and Alaric Saltzman to find out about her lineage as well as the Lockwood family secret."
She was confused by that, "Alaric?" She questioned.
"Yeah, turns out that he is the town's history teacher slash vampire hunter. Damon's sidekick." He informed making her frown.
"God, is anyone normal in this town?" She huffed rolling her eyes making him chuckle.
"Now, coming on to the plan, when should we start finding Nik?" Adonis asked before he remembered something, "You know what, scratch that, tell me why are we helping him in the first place? He cheated on you, from what I know, right?" He questioned while making sure to keep his gaze fixed on her.
She scowled looking away before exhaling, "Because he has waited a thousand years for this. And after a thousand years if there's a doppelganger, I want him to find out about her." She answered truthfully.
He believed her words but he could still not help the nagging feeling in his gut that was yelling at him that Aurelia was hiding something.
"Adonis?" He broke out of his reverie when she called out his name, "Yes?" He looked up to find her looking at the calender.
"Where is Caroline at the moment?"
"With Stefan, in the woods. He's teaching her control. Why?" He questioned.
"Tonight is a full moon." She responded.
He furrowed his brows at that, "Yeah, so?"
She gave him a blank look, "Mason Lockwood is a werewolf, Addie. And Caroline is a new vampire who doesn't know about what werewolves are."
His eyes widened as he jumped off the desk, "I'll go make sure that she's safe."
She smirked, "And then you say you don't like her." She teased.
He shook his head before going to walk out of the room, "And Adonis?"
He turned around to look at her, "About your question of when will Nik arrive?" She stated, "Soon as we find the moonstone and Rebekah's necklace."
He pursed his lips as he nodded before walking out.
Aurelia sighed before burying her face in her hands, wiping at her eyes. She hadn't slept in two days, researching about everything required for her husband's spell to break.
She knew everything by heart already. But this time, she did not want there to be any mistakes.
She could not afford them and neither could Nik. Not this time.
Hello, my babies! I know I am a day late with this update, but here it is. I really hope you guys liked it.
Coming to this chapter, Adonis and Caroline? I don't know, I kinda like it. Also, making a love triangle with her, Klaus and Lia? Hell no! I hate that idea. Care suits better with Addie.
And boyyy, there's gonna be so much drama, mama!!
Honestly, though, Adonis is such a cutie! I love that. He might just become the favorite character that I ever created. Isabelle and Lia need to keep up 😂.
Honestly, though, what do you guys want Caroline and Adonis' tangent to be?
Lia and Nik on a phone call? HELL YEAH!
I love how cute their bickering is, tbh. They really really have my heart! Gosh, they're the cutest.
Kol and Elijah are into guys as well? Oh what a shocker 🙄.
I've said this in The Queen before and I'll say it again: a thousand years is a long time to not explore your sexuality.
Now, Adonis and Lia's relationship. God! I honestly can't wait for the whole family to come together. I am so damn excited for that!!
And Lia doing everything she can for Nik? Gosh, I just want those babies to meet already.
Also, why does she need Bekah's necklace?
And, I have given away a HUGE foreshadowing clue in this chapter, any guesses?
