Exam
Jungkook woke up, hungover and all tangled up in a blanket. He looked around the hall silently and all he could feel was a sinking phenomenon in his chest, his heart thumping wildly. The house was warm, and it made him want to stay in the blanket. A recollection of all the bad decisions ran through his head. He had taken a big step of moving in with his ex-boyfriend without telling his parents, hadn't saved any money to get him through the next few days, spent everything on the cost of living, and now he was on the brink of a slump.
Although it was stone cold inside him, the warmth on the outside was comforting and he wished that he could heal from all the wounds with magic.
He reached out for his phone from the coffee table after sitting up and took a good look around. All the surfaces were squeaky clean even when they had made a mess before he slept. He felt grateful to Jimin for that.
Unlocking the phone, he started browsing the house listings, something he could afford with his internship money. When he moved into this society building, he thought he was doing a long-time investment, but he was proven wrong. Could he ask his parents for help? If he did, he was sure that they would fly down here and find out that he has been lying. After searching for minutes, he found a few options, but every place was too far away from his office, and he didn't have a car or a bike to journey around. His stress only deepened when he looked up movers and packers. Everything was expensive.
"Good morning."
Jungkook locked his phone quickly and looked up at Jimin. "M-morning."
"Hungry?" Jimin asked, walking into the kitchen.
"Not yet. You?" Jungkook left the couch and followed behind Jimin.
"Not really. What do you say we go out to the convenience store and grab some Ramen?" Jimin proposed, looking inside the cabinets that he had forgotten to re-stock again.

The two sat at the table, silently slurping Ramen and basking in sun. Jungkook was recollecting when they met Dahlia here a few months ago, a little baby girl of their neighbor, and Jimin was pondering how beautiful Jungkook was looking, glowing like honey as the golden trail of light fell on his face. "What do you do, Jungkook?" He asked, eyes still adamant with their gaze.
Jungkook gulped the noodles down his throat before covering his mouth to speak while chewing. "I am an intern at a software firm. I am actually a senior in college," he lowered his hand once he made sure he had no food in his mouth. "My project was to develop an app and I was working on it here simultaneously."
"Sounds exciting. What are you working on?" The man's interest was piqued.
"I am making software for medical use. It can be used by doctors to save patients' data inside any equipment. It also gets interfaced with the premise server."
"That's wonderful!" Jimin's voice was genuinely zealous. "I work as a field service engineer and I repair all the hospital equipment. I can pitch in your software to any company. I have many doctor friends."
Jungkook looked taken aback at the offer. "It's not really up to me. I am using my company's resources in making the app, so they will have to agree on how, when, and to whom I can sell it. Besides, I have to keep it confidential until my finals. I am yet to appear in my exams."
"I am sure I can be of help anytime. Whenever you are ready, I hope you tell me about it." Jimin tapped his foot under the table nervously. "When are your exams scheduled?"
"Nine days from now," Jungkook thought about something.
"What is it?" Jimin asked curiously, discerning that the younger had something on his mind.
"I was thinking of my living arrangement. My rent is paid till the end of this week and my internship will be complete in the next three weeks. I guess I'll just ask my company to relieve me early and I'll go back home now. It will save me some money if I stayed with my parents until I find a permanent job." He sniffled, fanning his palm on his face as the spice hit his palette.
Jimin slid his drink across the table. "Drink this."
Jungkook immediately took a sip of chocolate, heaving a long breath after. "Thank you."
"You know," Jimin suddenly suggested, a panic rising in his stomach for reasons he didn't prefer to think about. "You are more than welcome to vacate and move in with me." Jungkook's eyes shot up as he quizzically glanced at him. "I mean I've got a spare room."
"Thanks, Hyung. But you've already done a lot. Besides, if I could afford a place, I'd continue to live in my own apartment. I can't possibly..."
"You don't have to pay me," Jimin suggested and Jungkook stared at him again, this time, with confusion. "I don't pay rent, Jungkook. It's my own apartment, so until the time you can pay the rent elsewhere and get a job, consider living at my place... As long as you want."
Jungkook felt greedy. He wanted to say yes to the offer because he really couldn't afford to move anywhere, and he also needed to be around someone to take his mind off the ugliest breakup anyone could possibly have. If he agreed to Jimin's offer, he wouldn't have to rush on his internship too, but he knew no one granted favors for free. Why would Jimin be any different? "I wouldn't want to impose. I can't live here for free." As much as it was compelling to say yes, the boy denied the offer.
"Jungkook, think about it," Jimin retaliated. "You've been through a lot and moving will be stressful. No to mention, you have your exams. You shouldn't be stressing over things right now. If not for a long time, at least put your stuff here until the time you take your exam and you can kick back at the internship. You don't have to ask for an early release. After that, it will be your call."
Jimin had handcrafted the best solution for him, but Jungkook still couldn't shake off the bad feeling. Why would the man go out of the way to help him?
He looked dubious for a few seconds, considering the right action. "Are you sure? What if your parents come to visit you in the next thirty days?"
Jimin's cortex lit up in the celebration. If Jungkook was asking follow-up questions, that meant he was convinced to take up on his offer. "They won't. I visited them after Christmas and we are good until Choseok. What do you say?"
Jungkook chuckled out air unbelievably. He had heard about how one door opens when one closes for the majority of his life. Did this mean that God was opening a new door for him too or was he falling into another ditch of his impulsive and greedy decision-making?
