6. Just one date, or three
Jimin
This is the worst period in anyone's life. The day when work resumes, colleges and schools re-open after that mighty holiday.
I am in the court, walking out to get a few documents notarized. I wanted to become a divorce lawyer but ended up becoming a criminal lawyer. The case we closed this afternoon was going on for three years and my restlessness is ongoing for a week.
I texted him the next morning to ask about his finger. He never replied.
When it's the first time that I am not just seeking sexual benefits from someone, he is ignoring me. It was better to just do things with no strings.
But, I can't when I think about him. My dick, heart, and mind, we have a quarrel together almost every night these days.
The dicks wants what it wants.
My heart prevents my dick from wanting what it wants.
And my mind, it has other plans.
"How desperate is too much desperate?" I ask myself after receiving the documents from the clerk at the office.
"You ask me? I am working as a clerk in the most boring place ever."
I simper at the man and walk away while taking out my phone. "Hey," I hear Taehyung's divided attention on me as he answers my call.
"I need help," I sigh.
"What is it?" He asks me as uninterested as ever.
"What's Jungkook's deal?" I see people grumble at Taehyung as he huffs and seems like he is running all of the sudden. "Tae?"
"I am coming to see you!"
❣
We sit in his car and I roll my eyes. "Was this really necessary?"
"I needed to see the look on your face." He grins.
"Just help me if you want or else I can do it my way," I hold the car door but he tautens my hand.
"The first thing I want to tell you about Jungkook is that he is no way like anyone you have... Y'know. This one is an emotional fella. He pretty much is a family to us so if you are planning something scandalous, you'd have to kill the three of us before we let it happen."
I scoff at Taehyung. Is he for real?
"If I wasn't serious, I wouldn't have asked your help."
He seems to reflect on it as he itches his scalp. "Fine," he looks at me determinedly. "I will help."
I grin, my heart starts to race with forbidden anticipation. I know I said no falling in love, but if I already care about Jungkook, I might even let that happen.
"His parents are in Busan. He lives here with Hoseok and you know that already," Taehyung speaks fluently and I start counting on my fingertips. "He has two dreams. One, he wants a letter from Hogwarts, and two, he wants a boyfriend who has a car of his own so he would go pick him up for a date. That little shit is cheesy but most men he met turned out to be douchebags. His little teenage romantic fantasies are still delving there somewhere."
"How old is he?" I scrunch my eyebrows as I focus.
"22."
"I never would have guessed. He looks so small."
"He is the same height as me, midget."
"This is very offensive. I will sue you." I quirk my brows at Taehyung as I assert my words through nodding.
"Then forget my help," he smirks.
"Or I can sue you later," I flash a blinding smile.
"If you succeed in winning Jungkook's heart, guess who will control the strings?" Taehyung boasts.
"We will see about that," I smirk as a mental image of who will control what pops up. "Why isn't he responding to my text?"
"Text? Singular?"
I stare blankly at Taehyung. "Yeah."
"You need more than one text to get his attention, Jimin. I thought you were a playa."
"Well, that's the thing. I don't want to be a," I pause and act out animatedly, "Playa."
He thinks. "Show up at his work, causally. Catch him off-guard and talk to him because he overthinks everything. He is never going to reply to you."
"Drop me there." I pout.
"Buy your own car," he kicks me out.
❣
I pay the cabbie and enter the cafe only to see it empty. "Hello, ma'am," the store owner glances at me. "I am Jungkook's friend. Is he off-work today?" I ask.
Mrs. Cha shakes her head with a playful smile on her face. "There is a child's birthday party we are catering at. Jungkook is there."
"Oh," I pretend to think and she sees right through me.
"Do you want the address?" She asks.
Eureka!
❣
I see a bouncy house castle on the lawn and loud music blaring from speakers. There are many little kids frolicking around as I step on the soft grass that makes my feet feel wobbly.
At a small distance, I see Jungkook in front of a dessert bar that is prepped with rainbow cupcakes. What intrigues me is his blue denim coveralls above his white full-sleeved, round collar sweatshirt. He looks... Adorable, like those cupcakes behind him. I just want to eat him up.
He laughs with the kids as he hands them the cupcakes before they make him dance with them.
I forget that I am not invisible and he spots me with ease. His smile slowly shies away as he waddles towards me, looking like fresh whipped cream. "What are you doing here?" He asks, eyes wide in anticipation.
"You didn't reply to my text."
"Oh," he pouts and takes out his phone. My phone chimes and I see a response from Jungkook.
I am fine. Finger is fine too. Thank you for your consideration.
I look up at him unamusedly and he turns a little pink. "I have to show up here every time to get a response from you?"
"No," Jungkook shakes his head. "Not here. I don't work here. You'd have to come to the cafe I work at."
"You!" I chuckle out comically but he assumes that perhaps I'd touch him. He steps back and tumbles over a water hydrant.
Now, I have to touch him to protect him from falling but his piece of denim rips off. He is stunned. There is a hole in his seam due to the stretch and I want to hold him.
"It's okay, it's completely okay. Malfunctions happen." He looks like he'd cry any moment now.
No, no, no. I can't let him cry.
I take off my lawyer's coat and without thinking, tie it around his waist. "It's nothing, sweetie. Imagine idols or models on the stage and they fall or rip their clothes off on international TV. No one even saw you."
He looks up with confused expressions. "You did."
"I don't count. I am already your friend. I won't make fun of you. These things don't matter to me."
"Why are you doing this?" He wallows, stepping back a little.
I look in his brown eyes shining under the sunlight. "Go out with me. One date is all I ask."
He looks as though he had smelled an anesthetic.
"Will you?"
He gulps and closes his mouth. "Just one."
"One for now, and if you like it, don't say no to the second," I negotiate, trying my best to not sound cocky. "And third."
He gasps and blushes a gushing red.
Damn it!
