Personality:

Maurice entered school as a teen who was friendly and always tried his best to include everyone, he is intelligent and shows signs of determination, always accomplishing things that he sets his mind to. However, as he entered his Junior year there was a noticeable change in his grades which almost set him up to fail the year, he became a bit more distant from his friends while also starting to go out to parties and becoming a well-known flirt.

Maurice also gained a bit of a temper and started getting into fights no matter how small the reason might have been. However, these problems seemed to remedy themselves as he gained more control over himself and his feelings during his senior year. The people around him start to notice the more caring and mature side of him, often putting the needs of others before his own and remaining loyal to those who stay by his side.

Fear(s): The dark, death, and being abandoned.

Relationship(s)

Family

??? (Bio father?,???)

After finding a letter addressed to an unknown man from his mother, Maurice read that there was a small possibility that he was actually a product of an affair that his mother had with this man. Not wanting to believe it Maurice puts the letter back and for the most part, ignores its existence.

Cynthia Wilburn (Mother, Deceased)

Maurice never got the chance to meet his mother as she died shortly after giving birth, he tried asking about his mother before but all he got from his father were negative comments and angry insults so he learned to stop asking.

Genevieve McKinley (Mother-figure, ???)

Genevieve was the nanny that Mr. Wilburn hired to take care of Maurice while he was out at work. As Maurice grew up he saw Genevieve as his mother and even called her mom a handful of times but Mr. Wilburn quickly corrected that by threatening to fire her. Maurice always felt like he could trust her and was devastated when his father fired her after his sixteenth birthday, stating that he was too old to need a nanny anymore. Maurice didn't even get to say goodbye.

Nelson Wilburn (Father, Alive)

Maurice doesn't have the best relationship with his father as the man is rarely around, always busy with his work or going out to get drunk. Their relationship also isn't helped by the fact that Mr. Wilburn likes to blame Maurice for the death of his wife, often going as far as insulting and berating Maurice.

Friend(s)

Dustin Henderson

Maurice is very protective of Dustin and views him as a younger brother. Maurice admires Dustin's determination and loyalty to his friends, not only that but also how clever the boy can be. If Dustin ever needs anything Maurice is always just a call away.

Max Mayfield

Maurice also views Max as a little sister and always makes sure to check up on her, especially after Billy's death. He makes it known that he is always there for her whether it's because she wants to talk, needs advice, or just because she wants to hang out.

Erica Sinclair

Maurice and Erica instantly clicked as he found her sassy and snarky comments to be quite humorous, though when she tries to bargain it does test his patience especially when they are already in a tough situation.

Robin Buckley

Maurice and Robin became quick friends during their time at the Starcourt Mall, as Maurice would often come by on his break to visit Steve. The two often like to poke fun at Steve and host movie nights at each other's house.

Best friend(s)

Eddie Munson

Maurice and Eddie meet back when they were in elementary at a nearby park, quickly becoming friends despite their differences. Growing up the two would tell each other everything and Maurice would often sneak away to Eddie's place whenever he needed a break from his father. The two of them do not bother to hide their friendship after they worked things out in their junior year but still being too busy with other friends to even be seen together in their senior year.

They are also very comfortable with each other and do not shy away from physical affection. Eddie is a huge tease whenever he's around Maurice and often helps them get patched up after any fight, while Maurice often tries to tutor Eddie and help him with homework. Maurice also learns from Eddie that it's okay to be himself and not to live up to his father's expectations and image.

Steve Harrington

Steve and Maurice meet shortly after their freshman year of high school and become good friends, both feeling a sense of brotherly instinct whenever they are around each other. Maurice is often protective of Steve and while he didn't like Carol or Tommy he sucks it up because he could tell that deep inside Steve could be better than the reputation they were trying so hard to uphold, which only made their bond stronger when Steve finally ditched the two.

Maurice often followed Steve out to parties and was even there to comfort Steve when Nancy broke things off with him. Helping them build a ground of trust as he tried his best to give Steve some advice. The two often joke about being the mom/dad of the group and how they could be secretly related due to Robin pointing out how similar they look.

Sexuality: Closeted Asexual Demiromantic

Crush

Eddie Munson

Growing up Maurice had never felt a romantic connection to anyone, he had heard about it from a couple of different people but never truly understood what it was supposed to feel like. At first, Maurice had convinced himself that he might have been incapable of love and that there was a possibility that something was wrong with him, given the fact that by high school he hadn't had a girlfriend let alone kissed a girl.

Though everything seemed to change when Maurice went into his freshman year, him and his best friend seemed to grow closer and closer by the day. Eventually, it got to the point where Maurice would catch himself stealing glanced at Eddie, wondering what it would be like to hold his hand, and among other things that sent him into a panic. Those thoughts, which only became more prominent in his sophomore year, began to scare Maurice as he was sure that this was the feeling of love that he had heard so much about but never in his life did Maurice think he would feel it for his best friend.

And so when his Junior year rolled around Maurice began to act out, going to parties, getting drunk, and flirting with just about any girl to help him feel like he had some form of control in his life. Maurice's main focus being to try and prove to himself that he is normal, but even that didn't work as he still finds himself thinking about being with Eddie.

Backstory

Parents History

Nelson and Cynthia met when they were in high school and got married shortly after Nelson had graduated college. To the outsiders, their marriage seemed perfect as Cynthia worked as a secretary and Nelson ran his own business which was passed down to him by his father. However, sometime around August 1965, Nelson went off to the military leaving Cynthia alone.

A while later Cynthia found out that she was pregnant, and soon began to panic as she realized that the affair she was having behind Nelson's back might be exposed. But after a bit of thinking Cynthia calmed down and wrote to Nelson about the baby. Nelson, naturally, felt ecstatic at the news and he couldn't wait for the future to see his wife and their child.

Childhood

Maurice was then born on May 17, 1966, and spent the first nine years of his life living with his aunt and a nanny after his mother had passed away from complications during the birth. Leaving Mr. Wilburn completely devastated and upon coming home he greeted Maurice with a nasty attitude only seeing him as the person who killed his wife. The man even contemplates putting Maurice up for adoption but is stopped by his sister, who instead encourages him to employ a nanny. Which was exactly what Nelson did, getting back into his work and then getting drunk at night.

Though, while Nelson was still in the army, Maurice made a friend named Eddie after Ms. McKinley had taken him to the park at around the age of seven. The two would often visit each other at the park even after Mr. Wilburn had come home, forming a tight bond between them.

Middle School

During Maurice's time in middle school, the relationship with his father did not improve as Mr. Wilburn would constantly complain about how Maurice looked nothing like him and would often insult and berate the boy for every little mistake. This usually leads to the boy sneaking out of the house and either going to the park or Eddie's place.

Freshman/Sophomore year

During Maurice's first year of high school, he met a boy named Steve and the two would hang out with each other from time to time. The two quickly became fast friends all while Maurice was still trying to maintain his friendship with Eddie, something that became harder and harder by the day as new feelings began to arise along with thoughts that Maurice found himself trying to push back into his mind. Following that event, Maurice's 16th birthday rolled around and Mr. Wilburn ended up firing Ms. McKinley which sparked a huge argument between him and Maurice, who only wanted to say goodbye to the woman who had raised him for most of his life.

Then during his sophomore year, his father revealed they would be moving. So after securing a house, Maurice was left to pack up their belongings while his father was off working. So Maurice started with the attic and eventually found a couple of letters his mother had written, none of the letters had the receiver's name and were instead addressed to 'my love'.

After reading each letter, Maurice quickly found out that his mother had cheated on his father, who he might not be biologically related to. The young teen continued to look for more proof hoping that eventually he would end up finding out who the mystery man was, but unfortunately, all he found was an envelope with no address or name. Though there were initials on it with the first one being scratched out but the second one was read as an 'H'. Putting the letters away Maurice continued to pack trying to ignore the new information he had found, an identity crisis brewing which didn't exactly help with the fact that Maurice was still struggling with his feelings for Eddie.

All these unresolved issues bubbled over as Maurice turned to parties, fights, alcohol, cigarettes, and flirting as a way of coping with it all trying to forget everything and anything. Maurice even went as far as to distance himself from Eddie and went out with Steve more often hoping that if they were separated for long enough his feelings would eventually go away.

Junior year

By his junior year Maurice found himself to be hanging out with Steve and his small group of friends, though he didn't necessarily like them he still stuck around. The year started off like any other and appeared to promise the same things it did every year that is until Barb went missing at Steve's small get-together, which he also was a part of. That single event changed his life as he found himself with Steve, Nancy, and Jonathan fighting for their lives against a Demogorgon, one that managed to strick Maurice's right arm and left some scratches.

Ignoring how bad his wounds were Maurice ended up leaving the Byers house insisting that he could take care of himself, only making it up to the park before he ended up getting dizzy. As he took a seat on the bench Maurice finally realized just how bad his wounds were, his mind swimming with ideas of what he should do but they were all interrupted by the sound of Eddie's voice. The other reasonably panicked at the sight of the wound and quickly asked a bunch of questions while insisting that they go to a hospital, though Maurice's focus was on something different as he tried to apologize to Eddie for being distant. An apology that was quickly shut down as Eddie wanted to get Maurice the proper help before they discussed anything.

Senior year

It was finally Maurice's senior year and he seemed to be very excited about it, though there was still a bit of fear due to the events of last year but other than that Maurice was sure this would be another normal school year. Maurice had gone to the Halloween party with Steve and even comforts him when Nancy broke it off and he ended up getting swept into the whole Dart mess when Steve took him to Nancy's for moral support.

Then once the gate had been shut Maurice went to Dustin's house to help the boy get ready for the school dance, handing him over to Steve so he could drive Dustin there.

Life after High School

By the time Summer rolled around it was a bit of a letdown as Maurice and Eddie didn't get to graduate together, which in the long term meant they had less time to hang with each other when school starts up again. But other than that everything seemed to be going fine, Maurice had obtained a job at the record store after convincing himself that college wasn't an option for him and his father didn't seem to care so it all worked out great. Eddie usually makes small stops at the store every once in a while and whenever he doesn't Maurice still has Steve and Robin to visit during his lunch break.

The whole thing leading up to Maurice getting dragged into yet another upside-down-related incident, though this one strangely enough involved Russians.

1986

After the recent incident with the Mind Flayer Maurice gets a new job with Steve and Robin at Family Video. Everything seemed pretty normal, aside from some random nose bleeds and headaches that Maurice was experiencing, till Eddie finds himself being accused of murder to which Maurice and the group get to work on trying to prove Eddie innocent and stop whatever monster is causing this mess.
