forty: your happiness is my own [[extra]]
Less than a year ago, Jimin never imagined the sight of Yoongi's name showing up on his caller ID would fill him with such joy, but now here he was, on an otherwise boring Saturday morning, trying to bite back his smile as he held his phone up to his ear.
"Hey, baby."
His cheeks felt warm already. It had only been about a week since they started officially dating, and Jimin still couldn't get over how those words made him feel. The soft, tender manner of voice in which they were spoken, the image of Yoongi's fond smile flashing across Jimin's mind every time.
"Morning, Yoongi," he said in somewhat late reply.
"How are you?"
"I'm...good." His voice... "Is...is there a reason you called?"
Jimin heard a quiet laugh from the receiving end. "Can't I just call my boyfriend without a reason?"
Boyfriend. That's right. Yoongi's my boyfriend. "...you can."
"Well, I mean, I did have a reason," Yoongi said, allowing a thoughtful pause to follow his words, as if to intentionally pique the other's interest. "I wanted to ask if you wanted to go on a shopping trip?"
"A shopping trip?"
"A shopping trip," Yoongi repeated, unable to hold back his laughter once again. And oh, how that laughter made Jimin's lovestruck little heart flutter. "I was thinking, maybe, you'd like to remodel your wardrobe?"
"I..." His gaze drifted over to his bureau, still filled with the bland, mostly dark clothing he had been wearing every day for much too long. But then, he looked down at himself, at the mint blue sweatshirt of Yoongi's he had borrowed and fell asleep in last night. He loved wearing Yoongi's clothes, and Yoongi had said it himself, he loved the sight of Jimin wearing his clothes, but at the same time, Jimin also didn't hate the idea of having his own as well. He just didn't really give it thought until the other brought it up. "I'd like that," he said after some time.
"You would? Okay, great, so is it cool if I meet you at your house then and we could take the bus to the mall?"
"That's fine."
"Alright, well, I'll see you in a bit, Jimin."
"Okay, see you."
"Wait, Jimin?"
"What?"
"I love you."
The call ended. And with that realization, Jimin swore he felt a sharp needle prick him, and he hurried to call Yoongi back as though his life depended on it. It took a moment for the call to be answered. But once it did, and once he heard Yoongi's puzzled voice fight to break through, Jimin blurted, "I love you, too."
Then he hung up.
You can't just do that to me, you jerk. This isn't a one-sided thing...
He felt a bit frustrated, but more so embarrassed, especially when moments later Jimin received a text he already knew would be from Yoongi.

At this point Jimin had certainty Yoongi was doing this on purpose - or maybe he wasn't, and the boy simply had a natural way of making his heart beat out of control. Either way, Jimin had to take a moment to lie down and breathe, holding his phone against his chest, wondering how he ever managed to get so lucky for Yoongi to fall in love with him.
He dared not say he didn't deserve it again, because too many times already had his boyfriend made him feel guilty for even having such thoughts.
Sighing, Jimin draped his legs over the side of his bed and stood up, then made his way over to his bureau to pick out the simplest outfit he could find - he could always change into whatever they ended up shopping for later.
Reluctantly, he took off Yoongi's sweatshirt and tossed it aside, putting on a simple white tee and a pair of jeans.
Then he stared at the sweatshirt for about a solid two minutes before sighing again and putting it back on.
***
A little before eleven a.m. and Yoongi showed up at Jimin's door, the two exchanging a shy kiss and smiles before taking a bus to the mall as planned. Yoongi, needless to say, had been pleasantly surprised to find Jimin still wearing his mint blue sweatshirt and couldn't hide his glee no matter how much he tried to by staring out the window.
He was indeed, as Hoseok described him, "whipped."
Upon arrival to the mall, Yoongi joined hands with Jimin, intertwining their fingers as he eyed his boyfriend's expression. He adored the shy glances the boy would make, at their hands, at Yoongi's face, at the ground because he must have caught himself staring... He wouldn't have minded, of course, if Jimin continued to stare.
Thankfully, the store they first went into wasn't overly crowded for a Saturday - still a decent scattering of people, but nothing overwhelming. The store itself, large in size, known for carrying a wide variety of styles for just about anyone, was the perfect designation for this "upgrading Jimin's wardrobe" shopping trip.
Yoongi was absolutely ecstatic, to say the very least. Even more so than Jimin.
"So did you want to pick out some things, or is it okay if I find some things for you to try on?" Yoongi asked eagerly, already smiling in full. Jimin offered a sheepish shrug.
"I guess...you can pick out some things."
"Say no more."
And just like that, he was off. Bubbling and bursting with energy, no longer camouflaging the enthusiasm that came along with being able to choose his boyfriend's outfits - more importantly, knowing he'd get to see Jimin wearing them - Yoongi led the boy up and down aisles, grabbing more shirts and sweaters than either of them could count. By the end of fifteen minutes Yoongi was practically carrying a rainbow of clothing in his arms.
"Here." He dropped everything into a cart. "Let's go find the fitting rooms and doll you up."
With one hand, he pushed the cart, with the other, he held onto Jimin. And before the latter knew it, he was carrying everything in his arms, his boyfriend urging him into one of the many fitting rooms the store had to offer. Except he didn't immediately step back out after making sure Jimin had secured a room. He stayed. As the orange-haired boy set down all the clothes on the little bench, he turned his eyes to Yoongi and frowned.
"What?"
"You...you can wait outside while I try these on..."
"I'm already here, though," Yoongi said with a shrug and a smile, which only deepened the blush on Jimin's face.
"Yoongi..."
"Okay, fine, I'll turn around again, okay?" He did so and crossed his arms. "It saves time if I'm right here, though. That way you don't have to step out of the fitting room every time you try something on. 'Cause I do wanna see you try all of these, Jimin, I mean, that's why I picked them. So go ahead." He waved his hand in the air. "Try something."
Yoongi had a point, but Jimin still felt shy changing in front of him, having to scold Yoongi when he noticed the boy trying to peek over his shoulder after Jimin had taken his shirt off.
"Sorry, I'm sorry," he said and chuckled. His ears were red. "I won't do it again, baby."
"Why are you like this??"
"You have nice arms, and I'm gay. Mainly for you."
"S-...you're so blunt..."
Heaving yet another sigh of exasperation, Jimin pulled on a pink and white striped sweater which the boy found that he practically drowned in, the bottom hem reaching his thighs while the soft wool sleeves swallowed his hands.
"Yoongi, I think you got a couple sizes too big."
At this, Yoongi deemed it safe for him to turn around without getting yelled at.
His heart melted on the spot.
"Oh, no, baby, I grabbed extra large on purpose."
Pursing his lips, he stepped toward Jimin, then stepped closer still, until their chests were almost touching. Jimin's cheeks burned.
"D-don't kiss me here..." He whispered. Yoongi wasn't even trying to hide that he was staring at Jimin's lips.
"Why not?" He asked, smiling. "No one can see. You look too cute not to kiss..."
"...just one."
Yoongi pecked his lips. "Mm." A giggle spilled out of his mouth. "Do you like it?"
"W-...what?"
"The sweater, Jimin."
"Oh...yeah, I do. Do you like it?"
"Wouldn't have picked it out if I didn't. Now on to the next one. You've still got a mountain left."
"You didn't have to get so much..."
"Yes, I did," Yoongi argued, then moved back a few steps before turning around. "I absolutely did. Now c'mon. I really want you to get to the overalls."
"...you did not pick out overalls."
"I did. To fulfill my 'dating a hot farm boy' fantasies."
"Oh, will you stop it already??"
He knew Yoongi was only teasing him, and for that reason he couldn't hold back the laughter crawling up from his stomach - neither of them could. Just two boys, unsupervised in a public setting, giggling over one of their dumb jokes.
"Try them with the Dragonball t-shirt."
"I'm not even trying that one on."
"What? Baby, c'mon—"
"I didn't say you could turn around!"
"Don't...don't yell at me..."
In some way, the jokes were a coverup. Partially for the fact that with every item of clothing Jimin tried on, Yoongi had his breath stolen away. The cute, oversized clothing, every article which looked as though it had been made solely for him, just to make Yoongi's heart spin out of control.
He looked adorable in everything. Even the overalls, which Yoongi was glad Jimin agreed to try on. But perhaps, out of everything, Yoongi's favorite were the pinks. He realized he was a sucker for Jimin in pink.
The pink, pullover shirt designed with pretty flowers looked especially cute on him.
And with every outfit, Jimin earned a soft kiss from lovestruck Yoongi.
They both lost track of time and ended up spending several hours in that one store.
Not that either of them minded, of course.
At some point they finally exited the fitting rooms, Jimin's cheeks noticeably dusted pink with the sudden thought of anyone having overheard them talking, his arms once again carrying an abundance of clothes, while Yoongi also carried some. Only a few items he ended up putting back, which puzzled Jimin.
"I-I'm not buying all these," he said, and the mint-haired boy shook his head.
"I know. I'm buying them for you."
"Yoongi, no! You-"
"I am." Dropping the clothes into the cart, he pressed a finger to Jimin's lips. "They're not that expensive, I think the highest price was like, $20 or something."
"But this is so much!"
"I know, isn't it great?" He beamed, and at the sight of that cute, gummy smile of his proudly showing itself off to the boy who loved it more than anything, Jimin felt defeated. But in the sweetest way possible.
"You're too good to me..."
"I could never be. Now are you hungry? We can go check out and head to the food court. Or did you wanna look around some more first?"
"N-no, Yoongi, I think we've got enough..."
"If you say so. I did see more colors for the overalls over there, though-"
"Yoongi."
"Just sayin'..."
