A herd of penguins was crossing sub-Antarctic islands to reach the coast comprising of baby penguins and adults. The stars were hiding behind the skyline and the flight was tired. Jimguin looked around, unable to see Jenguin anywhere, he almost cried in panic as he ran with his tiny little feet and flippers to the back of the line.

There, he saw Jenguin laying flat on his stomach with his bubbly butt facing the stars. "Jenguin," Jimguin called. "Are you hungry?" He asked.

Jenguin squabbled, and with the help of Jimiguin's flippers, he sat up while rubbing his very big, beautiful eyes. Jimguin saw Jenguin nodding while he rubbed his flippers over his eyes. "I will get you fish, but you have to stick with the lot. You can't be away." He lovingly rubbed Jenguin's head with his flipper.

Jenguin pouted but nodded. Jimguin sighed, trying to take his flipper in his own to hold. "What's wrong?" He asked, sitting on the piece of snow sheet as the chilled water squashed around them.

Jenguin took in a tiny breath and fell backward on the snow, crisscrossing his tiny feet on top of each other. Jimguin looked down at him in contemplation. "I don't know, Jim. They say I am not normal. They want me to choose my mate and go through courtship. I can barely get food and shelter for myself, where will I find food for my mate?"

"You know," Jimguin suddenly arched his flipper to support his weight as he laid across the younger penguin. "You are perfect and so very cute. You won't have to worry about finding shelter or finding food."

"But then how will I get a mate if I don't?" Jenguin's flippers covered his face and he let his tears fall. Jimguin looked back at the herd. The alpha males were taking care of their babies or feeding their mates while keeping a watch on the perimeters for whales or big birds. Few were sitting over the eggs to keep them warm and here was Jenguin, crying.

Jenguin was supposedly born to bear the roles of an alpha male, he was a progeny of the leader Kooguin and Kiguin, but he grew up to be a cutesy little baby who was technically now an adult, but he still needed to be pampered like a baby. He was a vagrant, fearless, beautiful, and above all, very cute penguin.

"I was thinking... Why don't we need mate?" Jimguin asked suddenly. Although Jimguin's family was not among the wealthy, he had always been a rebellious one, breaking stereotypes and making his own definitions of the mainstream.

"What do you mean?" Jenguin suddenly gasped and flipped like a bouncy ball to be held into the older penguin's embrace.

"Adorable," Jimguin giggled, causing a blush to find its way over Jenguin's face. "Think about it, Jeng. They mate and they live together for the rest of their lives. I imply that we have been together all our lives. I mean... You have been with me all your life, I spent one year without you as you were born late, but still, it counts, right?"

Jenguin pouted, "I think so."

"What do you say we mate?" Jiminguin's eyes shone in hope as he popped the question.

"But then..." Jenguin stuttered and gasped. "But Jimguin," he gasped again between words.

"Mate has to be a female."

"Not necessarily," Jimguin suddenly sat up as Jenguin curiously tilted his head and blinked his beady eyes. "I - I mean we can do something new. Don't I bring you food?"

Jenguin nodded.

"Don't I keep you warm?"

Jenguin nodded innocently.

"Don't I care about you?"

Jenguin thought and nodded again.

"Then mate with me." Jimguin offered.

"But the penguins, what will they say?" Jenguin pointed his flipper at the herd.

Jimguin looked with a concerned face. "You know what, I will go get you fish first. Then we will try and find the solution." Jenguin happily swayed his head side to side as the older got up and waddled away with his round body to the shore to find food.

He returned in a few minutes with two fishes while a few penguins groaned and rolled their eyes at the unusual two. They wanted to declare them outcasts and boycott them, only if Jenguin wasn't a son of the leader and Jimguin wasn't very strong and intelligent.

While Jenguin chomped on the fish, Jimguin's brain was at full capacity. The little one burped after eating and Jimguin smiled, feeling satisfied just by the fact that he was able to feed him. "Let's go." The younger beamed happily when Jimguin pulled him back, walking backward.

"What are you doing?" Jenguin asked in horror. "We can't lose the herd."

"You can when you are with me." Jiminguin held Jenguin's flipper and ran in the opposite direction. Jenguin had no clue why he was running, but he trusted the older with his life, so he ran as fast he could.

Soon, the sun rose and the two stopped to look around. They were in the middle of nowhere and they could see no one. Jimguin let out an exhilarated cry and Jenguin cried too, just not happily.

The older suddenly looked at Jenguin, all color draining down his face. "Hey, what's wrong?" He asked softly.

"We are lost." The baby replied.

"No, we aren't. I know where we are going." Jimguin lied.

"Will you take me back to the herd?" The younger asked through his quivering little lips.

Jimiguin's heart stopped for a moment. "Y-yeah, sure, I will. Stop crying."

Scared to touch Jenguin now, Jimguin let the younger wipe his own tears. He found one fish again and gave it to Jenguin. The younger didn't eat at first, but then he did, slowly. "Why aren't you eating?" He asked Jimguin.

"I-I am not hungry right now. You should eat and we have a long way to go." Jimguin told Jenguin. "Just tell me one thing... Do you really want to live with the herd?"

Jenguin's brows furrowed as he thought for a moment and then shook his head. "I don't want to live with them."

It brought relief to Jimguin. "Then why are you crying?" He advanced towards the younger, chuckling softly.

"I dunno, they are our home." The younger shrugged.

"Home is where I will be." Jiminguin mumbled to himself and continued to take Jenguin far way, in the heart of Antarctica where no one would find them.

The younger was happy all the while until they found a place after traveling for weeks and Jimguin could see they would be perfect together, in the comfort of the icy cocoon.

The first night, Jimin broke the snow and decorated the place with it. He brought big fish, bigger than his own body for the special feast and made a drink out of a concoction of the mountain water that was sweet. Jimguin offered Jenhguin his flipper for the dance. The younger happily hugged the taller and danced with him.

Tiredly, as they sat to eat, Jenguin happily looked into Jimguin's eyes. "Thank you, this is so good. Are we near home yet? When will we see others?" He asked as he took a sip of the drink out of the ice ewer that Jimguin carved.

For weeks, Jimguin hid the fact that they were moving farther away from the herd, thinking that Jenguin would forget, but he had to tell him now. "Uh, this is home. We aren't going anywhere."

The younger's heart was broken just like that. "What?!" He kept the ewer down and his eyes began to brim with thick tears.

"Baby, I thought you were happy with me. Why do you need them who don't like you?" Jimguin slid closer to him. "I will take care of you." He urged in a gentle tone.

"But they are our home." The younger as if couldn't wrap his mind around the idea of doing something so unconventional.

"What does home mean?" Jimguin asked.

"I dunno." The younger suddenly stood up and slowly waddled away into the room. Jimguin's face contorted into a scowl with pain. He looked at the barely touched food and followed Jenguin inside, only he couldn't go all the way in and slept out.

Jenguin didn't talk to Jimguin when he woke up. It kept going for days. Jimguin brought him food, he ate and slept without saying anything. Jimguin was hopeless. He tried to talk to the penguin many times but Jenguin ended up crying.

"Jeng, baby..." Jimguin called the younger one morning who sat by the shore silently. When he didn't say anything, Jimguin sat beside him. "I am so sorry, please forgive me that I brought you here. I will take you back now. Get ready." The older's voice broke and he spilled some tears.

When Jenguin saw Jimguin crying, he got scared. Never has he ever seen the older cry. "Why are you crying?" He turned around to encase the older in his arms.

"You don't want to live with m-me." The older cried more.

"I do, I want to mate with you." Jenguin replied shyly.

"You do?" Jimguin's tears stopped for a moment as he pulled away from the hug. "But you... You said you wanted to go home."

"I think I like it here, I don't want to go back anymore." The younger replied, blushing.

"Do you really want to mate with me?" Jimguin asked, his cheeks blushing crimson. Jenguin nodded at the ground.

Jimguin stood up and took a step back for the courtship ritual. Jenguin bowed and preened to bind himself into the mating ceremony. Jimguin bowed back and then stepped closer to his technically half-mate. The ceremony tied them together for life. All they had to do was to commemorate it by mating.

"You... You need to lie down... so-so that we could..." Jimguin never had difficulty with words like he did now.

Jenguin knew what he was supposed to do. It came naturally to him as he laid down. Jimguin hopped on top of him and slid backward until he found his tail. Looking at the scared face of his mate, Jimguin kissed him softly. "I-I love you, Jenguin." He finally said as he entered the baby and a little squeak left Jenguin's little pouty mouth.

"I will be careful next time." Jimguin promised as he pummeled himself into his mate, making him screech in pleasure while his own mind went hazy. By the time he brought orgasm to Jenguin, he was ready too.

Releasing inside his mate, Jimguin got off the little one and hugged him. "Did I hurt you?" He asked.

Droopy and sleepy Jenguin nodded with half-lidded eyes before Jimguin pecked his lips carefully. He picked the little penguin with his flippers and put him inside the room before going out.

As Jenguin woke up, Jimguin offered him a shiny pebble as a gift, as per their mating tradition. "Thank you. I love you, Jim." The younger penguin smiled adorably, causing fireworks to set off in Jimguin's heart.

"You are welcome, baby. I love you more." The older penguin smiled brightly before gently kissing Jenguin.
