━━━━━━⋆.·°''━━━━━━

"Alright, alright!~" Autumn giggled, stepping in the middle of a ball room. The tables were dotted across the room, people gathered as they drunk from wine glasses. "That's what I'm talking about! Now, everyone, give it up for the man of honor! Dylan Jackson!" She smiled, pulling him from his table.
Dylan struggled to get up properly, avoiding from spilling his wine glass. He stepped into the center, the people beginning to quiet down.
"A toast to the bride!" He smiled halfheartedly, raising his glass towards Lynx. She made somewhat of a smile, her eyes meant different. "To the bride!" Sung a group of men, only to be chorused by another group of ladies and Autumn.
When Dylan's eyes shifted to Ashley, his happiness died slightly.
He had loved the girl for quite some time, but for her, he would do anything. Even giving her up for her happiness.
"To the bride..!~" He managed, tears already pricking at his eyes.
Ashley smiled brightly at her best friend, standing up. "To the bride!" Autumn cheered, along with the same group of ladies from before. She giggled at them, turning towards Dylan again.
"From your best friend!"
"Dylan~" The guests sung, Dylan chuckled, weakly.
"Who is always by your side!"
"To your union.. " He sung, Autumn hugging him. "To the union!" She cheered once more. "The revolution!" The men sang.
"And the hope that you provide. " He began to frown, his smile shifting slowly.
"May you always be satisfied. " He finished, smiling as his eyes closed.
He opened them once more, filled with fear and sadness. "Rewind.. "
Ashley titled her head, stepping forwards slightly. "Dylan..?"
Dylan didn't see his best friend and her newly wed, for he saw drawn-on wicked smiles. "What's wrong?"
He felt the urge to cry, though he resisted it and frowned, closing his eyes tightly.
He reopened them quickly, the night of the ball where Ashley and Lynx had met. He turned frantically, the man he was talking with getting startled.
Dylan couldn't care less.
"I remember that night, I just might regret that night for the rest of my days.. " He mumbled, looking towards a candle. "I remember those soldier boys tripping over themselves to win her praise.. " He sighed, walking away from the man and hiding behind wall, peeking at the view.  Soldiers were tripping, trying to get to Ashley. Ashley grimaced and turned away, trying to exit as quick as possible. "I remember that dream like candlelight like a dream that you can't quite place.." He turned away from them, and there a lit candle sat on a pedestal, it's wax melting slightly.
He smiled, looking up slightly to see Ashley again, talking with a few ladies. "But Ashley, I'll never forget the first time I saw your face... " She looked at Dylan for a second, smiling and waving slightly before returning to the girls.
He felt his heart melt, turning and sliding down the column of the pedestal, a 'helpless' look on his face. "I have never been the same, intelligent eyes and a hunger pang frame.. "
The group of girls walked away from Ashley, her turning towards the direction Dylan was in.
She peeked from the side of the column, "Hi!"
"And when you said, "Hi" I forgot my dang name, set my heart aflame, every part aflame, this is not a game... " The present Dylan sung, watching over his and her past selves.
"You strike me as a person who has never been satisfied. " Ashley smiled, Dylan's cheeks gaining a red color.
"I don't know what you mean, you forget yourself. " He stammered, looking away.
"You're like me, I'm never satisfied. " Ashley replied. "Is that right..?" Dylan turned his head slightly, his cheeks dimming down the slightest.
"I've never been satisfied. "
Dylan took a deep breath, "My name is Dylan Jackson.. "
"Ashley Skaik. "
"Where's your family from?" Dylan put his hand under his chin intently.
Ashley sweatdropped, avoiding eye contact, "Unimportant. There's a million things I haven't done... Just you wait, just you wait. "
The frame froze cutting to present Dylan. "So, so, so-", He crossed his arms, "So this is what it feels like to match wits with some at your level, what the hell is the catch?" He bring his hand up to his forehead, "It's the feeling of freedom of seeing the light, it's Ben Franklin with a key and a kite, you see it right?" He turned to the pair, in the same position as before, frozen. "The conversation last two minutes, maybe three, everything we said in total agreement! It is a dream, it's a bit of a dance, a bit of a posture, a bit of a stance. " Putting his hand to his mouth, he blushed slightly. "She's a bit of a flirt, but imma give her a chance. " He coughed, looking at his feet. "I asked about her family, did yes  see her answer? Her hands started fidgeting, she looked askance, " He looked away, putting his hand up to the side of his mouth, "She's penniless, flying by the seat of her pants.. " Regaining posture, he fawned over her appearance. "Beautiful, boy, does she know it! I wanna take her far away from this place and I turn and see my friend face and she is--" The scene unfroze, past Dylan shifted his glance to Lynx, hiding behind another wall, red faced. "Helpless.. "
"And I know she is... "
"Helpless.. "
"And her eyes are just... "
"Helpless.. "
Present Dylan frowned, "And I realized three fundamental truths at the exact same time.. "
Dylan took Ashley's hand, smiling and tugging her slightly.
"Where are you taking me..?" She blinked, her lip shifting up a bit. "I'm about to change your life. "
"Then by all means, lead the way. "
"I'm a guy in a world in which my only job is to marry rich, my father had one son so I'm the one who has the social climb for one. " Time froze.
"Number 1.. "
" I'm the oldest and the wittiest, and the gossip in New York City is insidious. " He smiled slightly, "And Ashley is penniless, hah! That doesn't mean I want her any less.. " Unfreezing, Past Dylan led Ashley to Lynx, "Lynx Hodges, It's a pleasure to meet you.. " Lynx smiled, her blush settling slightly, "Friend of yours?" Ashley smiled at Dylan, raising an eyebrow. He nodded.
"Number two.. "
"She's after me 'cuz I'm soldier, that elevated her status, I'd have have to be naive to set that aside. Maybe that is why I introduced her to Lynx, now that's her bride. Nice going Dylan, she was right, you will never be satisfied.. "
Lynx continued to blush, "Thank you, for all your service.. "
"If fighting a war for us to meet, it will have been worth it. " Ashley replied smoothly, kissing Lynx's hand, causing her blush to increase.
"I'll leave you to it!" Dylan smiled falsely, waving his hand and signalling his leave.
"Number Three.. "
"I know my friend like I know my own mind, she will never find anyone as trusting or as kind. If I told her that I loved her, she'd be silently resigned, she'd be mine. She would say, "I'm fine.. " She'd be lying.. " Dylan frowned, sliding down a wall. "But when I fantasize at night it's Ashley's eyes.. As I romanticize what might have been if I hadn't sized her up so quickly... At least my dear Lynx is her wife.. At least I keep her eyes in my life.. " A tear rolled down his cheek, the past figures disappearing and revealing Ashley looking at Dylan, now in the present ball room, with a worried expression. "... To the bride!!" Dylan snapped out of it, the tears rolling down his face as he played them off as tears of joy.
"To the bride..!!" He raised the glass, smiling brightly.
"From your best friend, who is always by your side.. ~" He laughed at her startled yet happy expression, he hugged her close.
"To your union!! And the hope that you provide! May you always be satisfied!~" He finished, pushing Ashley lightly into Lynx, both erupting into laughter and giggles along with the crowd of guests.
Dylan disappeared into the crowd, frowning at the back. "And I know she'll be happy as her bride.. And I know... She will never be satisfied, I will never be satisfied... " He finished, his brows furrowing as he disappeared behind a wall, the glass of wine spilt hanging loosely from his hand as he curled his knees up to his chest.
