The car ride back home was awkward to say the least. Layla knew she probably wouldn't be in much trouble considering only Julie was grounded, but she was there when she knew Julie was in trouble.
Ray hadn't said much which made the girls nervous. They trudge up the walkway toward the door in silence.
"Julie, we need to talk." Ray says causing both girls to stop. Layla eyes him unsure of what she should do. "Layla, you can head inside."
The girl simply nods before giving her cousin a small smile which Julie returns. Layla quickly walks in shutting the door behind her.
She heads up the stairs and into her room. As she closes the door behind her, a whooshing sound is heard and Luke plops down on her bed.
Layla jumped slightly before realizing it was him. She sets her bag down as he smiles at her.
"Hey. Everything okay?" He asks
"Yeah, I think so. Julie's talking to her dad now."
"Do you think he'll make her quit the band?"
"No, I don't think so." She says sitting next to him, "Especially since it's getting her back into what she loves."
Luke nods before turning to her, "Did you get in trouble?"
Layla shakes her head, "No. At least I don't think so. I might get lectured for helping her sneak out, but that's probably it."
"Well, that's good."
"Yeah."
"You were amazing tonight by the way." Luke smiles
"Thanks." Layla chuckles, "It was very nerve racking."
"Yeah, but you did amazing though. I didn't know you sang as well."
"A little." Layla says tilting her head, "I think I'm usually better in the back."
"I think you did amazing in the spotlight." Luke says causing Layla to look him in the eye, "You need to give yourself more credit."
Layla's smile widens, "Well, thank you. I appreciate it."
"Of course." Luke nods. He looks down noticing Layla's hand on the bed beside him. He slowly moves his hand closer to hers before his pinky touches her. Layla looks down feeling his hand before her brows furrow.
"How is that possible?" She asks softly
"I don't know. It's something we can add to Alex's list, I guess." He chuckles, "Does it make you uncomfortable?"
Layla shakes her head, "No."
The two look at each other now noticing that they were closer than they were before. Neither of them knew how hard the other's heart was pounding in their chest. As Luke's eyes search her face, both jump at the knock on Layla's door.
Layla's hand leaving Luke's which made his heart drop a little. She turns back to him, "I'll talk to you later?"
"Yeah." He says quickly before he disappears
"Come in." Layla says before the door opens. Layla's sighs as she closes her eyes. "Thank god. It's just you."
"My dad might be up here soon, but I just wanted to tell you that we're all good." Julie says as she closes the door.
"You're not in trouble?"
"No." She says plopping down next to her, "He just wants me to be honest about our performances and stuff now."
"That's fair." Layla nods. Julie notices how quiet her cousin was which wasn't very normal.
"You okay?" Julie asks with furrowed brows
"Yeah." She says simply, but Julie could tell she had more on her mind. "Um, actually, there is something.."
"Okay." Julie says as she watches Layla stand up, "What's wrong?"
"Okay, so this is gonna be crazy."
"Layla, we can see ghosts. I'm pretty sure whatever you're gonna say isn't crazier than that."
"I can touch Luke."
Julie's eye immediately go wide, "What?"
"Yeah and I don't know what that means, but it freaks me out."
"Okay, so what I saw the night of the dance wasn't just my imagination."
"At the dance?" Layla frowns
"Yeah. Whenever you walked out you brushed against him. I thought it was just me seeing things, but now I know I actually saw it."
Layla's eyes widen, "What if I'm like dying or something?"
"You're not dying, Layla." Julie says standing up, "Maybe there's some sort of connection somehow. Maybe he knew your mom."
"But why wouldn't he say so?"
"Maybe he doesn't know. He saw that picture of your parents, but he probably didn't recognize her."
"Janet said that they maybe went to the same school or she ran into them when she went around town for her music."
"It's possible. Our mom's were so into music." Julie shrugs. Layla sighs heavily as she looks at her cousin. Julie shakes her head, "Let's not figure it out right now. We just performed and I don't know about you, but I'm tired."
"Yeah, I am, too." Layla nods
"Okay. We'll figure it out later." Julie smiles. Julie makes her way to the door before turning back, "Night, Layla."
"Goodnight." Layla says as Julie closes the door. The girl sighs as she runs her hands down her face.

"So, Uncle Ray booked us a gig at our house?" Layla says with confusion lacing her tone. She sat at Julie's locker as the girl exchanged her books.
"Yes, but it's better than it sounds. Flynn planned the party and he's gonna have some professionals film it for our YouTube." Julie says
"It's something." Layla says as Julie chuckles. Layla's face drops, but a playful smile takes over as she looks past Julie. "Your boyfriend's coming."
Julie furrows her brows, "What?"
Layla nods past her and Julie turns before quickly turning back. Her eyes are wide as Nick gets closer.
"Later." Layla says walking away
"Wait. No!" Julie whispers harshly, but her cousin was already down the hall.
The girl makes her way to her locker and opens it as she tosses her books in there and grabs her bag. As she closes it, she jumps.
"Hey." Luke smiles
"You know, normal people accounce when they're in someone's presence. And ghosts definitely should." Layla says, "What are you doing here?"
"We need to talk about what song we're gonna play tonight. I was thinking... "Great."?" Luke says. Layla raises her brows at someone passing before she pulls out her phone bringing it to her ear. "You're gonna take a call while we're talking? You know how rude that is?"
"Hey! Thanks for calling. Otherwise, people might think I'm talking to myself." Layla smiles
"Right. Nice." Luke nods
"No. But, yeah. I think "Great" is a..." She tilts her head, "great choice."
"Sweet. Well... I mean, that's pretty much what I wanted to talk to you about. So..."
"Oh. Okay." Layla mutters
"Uh, actually, no, there is one more thing I wanted to talk to you about. It's..." Luke trails off, "Look, I know I'm not the easiest person to work with, but I... I wanted to tell you that I think you make me a better writer." He finishes clearing his throat
Layla's smile widens as she nods, "I think we make each other better."
"You know what? Why don't you just ditch school today? Let's go rehearse."
"Are you not aware of what happened to Julie when she didn't show up to school the other day?" Layla asked sarcastically
"Yeah, but you're at school first, and now you're leaving to go rehearse." Luke says, but only gets a deadpan expression in return, "Come on. I can't do this without you."
"You're cute, but not that cute." She says. Luke smirks at her, "I can't anyway. I have that stupid dance assignment today and as much as I hate it, I can't fail. I've missed too much of that class anyway."
"Fine." He says holding his hands up in surrender, "But rehearsing with me would've been a lot more fun."
"I'm sure." Layla chuckles, "I'll see you after school."
Luke watches as she pretends to hang up the phone before walking past him. "Guess we'll just have to carry you tonight just like we always do !"
Layla sighs as she rolls her eyes smiling to herself.
"I know you're smiling." He says holding a smile of his own. Layla waves him off as she continues on to class, "Kill it on the dance floor."
