La Fille Qui Voulait La Liberté [The Girl Who Wanted Freedom] -Andromeda Black

Warning: Mention of Homophobia and LGBTQ+, So if you don't like that stuff, Don't read.

Andromeda Black didn't understand. She didn't understand why blood purity mattered, she didn't understand why people pretended to be perfect or why she wasn't allowed to do things other girls her age did. She didn't understand why she had to dress a certain way, talk a certain way, or why she was to marry a nice Pureblood man when she graduated. She didn't understand why she was expected to stay at home, not have a career and to raise her children while her husband worked. Andromeda just didn't understand why other women in Pureblood society didn't stick up for themselves and show their true strength and power instead of acting like perfect house wives.

Andromeda Black was a Slytherin. Her family was proud of her especially her older sister Bellatrix, her younger sister tried to show her happiness, but Andromeda knew she was too young to understand. She tried to show enthusiasm, she really did, but she just couldn't find it in her to be excited, it was just a house and it wouldn't matter anymore once she graduated, it wasn't like her whole life was going to change because of her wrong, right. Wrong, everything changed, people feared her more and that made it harder to make friends, but some how she managed, and when she came home after first year she knew this was only the beginning

Andromeda wasn't very surprised when Sirius became a Gryffindor. She had seen it coming a mile away, he was the closest thing she had to a brother and since they were cousins they had spent a lot of time together, therefore she knew him better than most people, maybe except Regulus, because the two brothers were joined at the hip and you one never see one without the other following (sometimes she envied their bond and wished to have it with her sisters, but she knew it would never happen), so when Regulus was sorted into Slytherin she knew that the trouble had just begun and she hoped that the two's relationship would make, but a part of her knew that it was only a matter of time before they destroyed each other too, just like everyone else in this cursed family.

Andromeda Black didn't understand what she was feeling. Ted Tonks a half-blood, Hufflepuff in her year made her feel things she had never felt before, whenever she was near him (which was not as often as she would have liked), she felt butterflies in her stomach, it was a glorious feeling that she loved. She knew that she was straight, unlike her sister Bella, who she had seen kissing a girl at one the Black Family Reunions and she had also seen Bella calling that girl a fag and saying she was disgusted by her mere presence. She had also confronted Cissa after seeing her snog both boys and girls and had found out her younger sister was bisexual.

And Sirius had told her he was Demisexual after confessing his crush on Remus Lupin to her, (He had been so drunk he had also confessed that Peter Pettigrew was transgender and that he hated Lily Evans for breaking James's heart again and again). She also remembered seeing Regulus snogging Rabastan Lestrange in a hallway, she had asked him about that and after being sworn to secrecy had been told that they were both drunk when it happened, but he had confirmed that he was gay, (and totally in love with James Potter despite the fact that Regulus proclaimed to hate him). All in all though Andromeda knew that even though her family had a strong hate for anything not Pureblood, she couldn't help but fall in love with Hufflepuff boy with a bright smile and a love of talking.

Andromeda Black couldn't wait to get disowned. All through her life she had done everything her family had told her, with her own twist of rebellion in it of course, but eventually she got tired of following their ways and longed for her own freedom and now after Ted had proposed and told her he wished to have a life together with her after graduation, well let's just say that she had finally found something leaving her family for and she was finally ready to get out of his hellhole. A month later Andromeda left her family for love, but little did she know, not only did she pave the way for others members of her family to leave, but became an inspiration for her cousin Sirius Black.

Andromeda Black had finally found true happiness. She was married to the love of her life and had a beautiful daughter with him. Nymphadora or Dora as she liked to be called, was a mischievous child, who loved pranking which had learned from her father and 'Uncle' Sirius, much to her mother's amusement and displeasure. She was also a Metamorphmagus which was both an extraordinarily gift and a way to give her family multiple heart attacks. All in all Andromeda was doing perfectly fine, she had her own family, she occasionally talked to Narcissa through letters and visited Sirius who had escaped the previous summer and was now living at the Potter's, so yes life was good for Andromeda, but a small part of her knew it wouldn't last forever because a war brewing and no one could have predicted the damage it did to the Black Family.

Andromeda Black was wallowing in guilt. She had just found out from Narcissa that Regulus was dead, well to be more accurate Narcissa had stormed over to her house and yelled at her that it was all her fault while Ted, Dora and Sirius watched in bafflement. After Cissa had left Andromeda had locked herself in her room and began searching for the letter Regulus had sent her, you see even after everything that had happened she and Regulus has secretly talked, though he had mostly asked about Sirius, but after he had taken the dark mark she had stopped sending letters and keeping the ones he sent in a box, not having the heart to burn them.

And now as she read the letter that was meant for Sirius, she understood what her younger sister had meant, if only she hadn't been selfish and kept this to herself instead of giving it to its rightful owner, she may have been able to save the life of a boy who was cruelly taken by death at such a young age. That night Andromeda cried herself to sleep, not letting anyone inside the room and not eating, she had tried to stop the tears, but every time Sirius would come to the door and ask what's wrong, she would start sobbing again.

That was the night she vowed to herself that she would do whatever it takes to end this war and keep her loved ones safe, that was the day Andromeda Black became a whole new person and it all because of a letter she selfishly kept to herself, a letter that not only motivated her to do better, but a letter that she never wanted her sisters to write to her, it was a letter from a poor, scared boy who was saying sorry to his brother and begging for another chance at life, it was a goodbye and it was a silent plea of help. That letter was the last bit of hope Regulus Black had, too bad it couldn't save him.
