Chapter Eleven
Before heading off, I thought it was best to head home quickly to grab a couple of my belongings, one being my computer, and to tell my family that'd I'd be gone for a couple of days and that they shouldn't worry. It took a while to convince Mr Davenport to let me go, but eventually I was sat on the train and on my way to Central City.
I decided to do a bit more research on the ride. Sitting at the back of the train, keeping my head down so that no one would recognise me as a missing person and call the police, I hacked onto the CCPD's records to learn a bit more about what I was diving head-first into. Thank God those trains were equipped with free wifi.
Turns out I didn't actually need to hack onto the data base. Out of instinct, I quickly clicked the Staff Profile page, scrolling through the numerous amount of police related jobs in the department. I was just about to give up on that page when I recognised a cheerful face under the CSI section, which also happened to be the only name under that category. I mentally slapped myself, only just remembering that I'd read in his missing persons article that Barry worked at the police department.
Bionic Superhuman, Metahuman, anthropologist, cellular biologist, computer scientist, nanotechnologist, and now forensic scientist. The list was never ending.
"Morning," a man, most probably in his late twenties, greeted me as he sat down in the seat next to me.
I bit my lip and looked around at the various empty seats scattered around the train. Why, out of all of the seats he could've chosen from, did he choose the one next to me?
I smiled in response before returning to my "research", hoping that the man wouldn't try to interact with me anymore.
"Is that the CCPD database?!" The man asked.
I sighed. Just my luck. "Um, yeah. It is actually".
"What the hell do you think you're doing hacking into that? You do realise that it's illegal, you're gonna get arrested!"
"I'm CSI at the CCPD". Not a total lie. "I've just finished working on a case and needed to submit my reports into the Head of Department, otherwise I'll get myself fired".
I looked at the man and could see that he was still skeptical about it. I sighed. I was honestly not in the mood for this.
I quickly clicked on Barry's profile and spun the computer around until the screen was facing the man so that he could compare my profile to the picture.
He studied it for a while and nodded unsurely before sending me a smile.
"So, what's this case you've been working on?" He asked brightly.
"Strictly confidential".
"C'mon, just a hint?"
"My boss would kill me if I told anyone about any case" I joked half-heartedly, earning a laugh from the man.
"Fair enough," he said, holding out his hand. "Michael Jones".
"Barry Allen," I introduced myself, shaking his hand. I now had so many different aliases that I started to feel a bit like a spy. "Nice to meet you".
"As to you".
We sat in silence for a while, so I took this as a chance to have a search around the CCPD's database. I decided to find out a bit more about this Doctor Demon that Caitlin had mentioned earlier. Sadly, no results came up.
"Your case about Doctor Demon?" Michael asked.
God this guy was nosy.
"Um, yeah," I replied, deciding to use this man's knowledge of the city to my advantage. "Do you know much about him?"
"How long've you been out of Central City? Everyone knows who he is".
I shrugged. "A while. Last time I was here, The Flash was still running around protecting everyone".
Michael nodded and bit his lip. "Well," he looked around quickly and lowered his voice to a whisper, "everything went downhill when The Flash went missing a couple of months ago. Nobody feels safe due to the increase of criminal activity. Police are trying their best to help people, as well as another Metahuman who's temporarily taken up the roll of the speedster, but it's not the same".
"What's this got to do with Doctor Demon?"
"People seem to think that Doctor Demon had something to do with Flash's disappearance, but nobody knows for certain. Could just be people being paranoid".
"What d'you think happened to him?"
"Honestly, I've got no clue. I'm still trying to wrap my head around all of this Metahuman stuff, and it's been over a year now!"
"Fair enough".
Suddenly, a female voice came over the speakers, announcing that we'd reached one of the numerous stops throughout the city.
On cue, I felt the train lurch to a grinding halt.
"That's my stop," I stated, shoving my computer into my backpack.
Michael smiled, standing up to let me pass, and held out his hand. I shook it gladly and smiled back.
"Nice to meet you Michael Jones. Thanks for your help".
"My pleasure, Barry Allen. Good luck with your case".
"Thanks," I laughed and headed out the doors, thanking the driver as I exited. As per usual, I tripped over myself on the way out, but luckily no one seemed to notice. I don't know why or how, but Michael actually brightened my day a lot. I inhaled deeply and slung my bag over my shoulder and made my way towards STAR Labs. I'd gotten into contact with Caitlin, who'd been generous enough to slip her phone number into my pocket upon our first meeting, before getting on the train and had her send me the address of The Flash's base of operations.
I decided to keep my head down as I walked towards the lab, not knowing who'd recognise me and not wanting to get into any awkward situations upon accidentally bumping into someone that Barry knew. Sadly, that meant no sightseeing, which kind of sucked as I'd never actually been out of Mission Creek before.
I took me about ten minutes to walk to STAR Labs, and a good five minutes to figure out how to get around the "Warning: Hazardous Location. No Trespassing" fencing, which, in the end,I decided to climb over. Despite a few scrapes on my legs, I was completely fine as I cautiously walked through the maze of corridors in the lab, trying to find someone who could be able to help me, preferably Cisco or Caitlin.
After a couple of minutes of wandering, I suddenly heard voices echoing down the hall way towards me. Nervously, I followed them until I found myself in a large room, which I assumed was the lab's cortex, occupied by four people arguing, two of which were Caitlin and Cisco. The other two were both men. One had dark skin and looked like he was in his late forties, and the other man had tanned skin, a strong build, and looked in his early thirties.
I couldn't hear what they were arguing about, and I honestly didn't want to find out, so I decided to come back later. Sadly, luck was against me, and before I left I managed to make eye contact with Cisco, which eventually caused a chain reaction of people turning around to look at me. Judging from the looks on their faces, I could tell this wasn't going to end well.
"Bartholomew Henry Allen," the older man said, starting to walk towards me with tears in his eyes. "Barry!" He yelled again, and picked up his pace until he was sprinting towards me.
I cursed under my breath, and prepared for a hard impact, possibly a slap. No violence came. Instead, I was crushed under his backbreaking embrace, his tears streaming into my jacket.
"Where the hell were you, son?" The man breathed in between sobs. I assumed that this man was Joe West, Barry's adoptive parent.
"I-" I started, but couldn't finish, mostly due to the fact that I couldn't breathe.
Joe finally let go of me and smiled, making me want to cry. I looked over at Caitlin, who nodded. I knew that I had to tell him the truth.
"Listen, um, Joe? I'm assuming that's your name," I started, taking a deep breath. "I, um, I'm not who you think I am. I... my name's Chase Davenport, not Barry Allen. I don't know what exactly happened, but I think Doctor Demon had something to do with it, and I promise you that I want to help you get Barry back".
I couldn't bare to look him in the eye while saying this, his sad face already making it hard.
"You're not Barry?" He asked. His voice was downcast, all hope within him gone in a matter of seconds.
I shook my head sadly.
Joe stood there quietly.
"Joe?" Cisco asked slowly.
"I... I just need a moment alone to process this," Joe said before quickly leaving the room.
Caitlin walked up to me and put a hand on my shoulder.
"You did the right thing Chase," she said soothingly.
"Did I?"
She nodded before turning to Cisco. "I'm gonna go talk to him".
"Probably a good idea".
She nodded, smiled at me, then followed Joe out of the room, leaving me standing awkwardly alone with Cisco and the anonymous man.

And yeah! :D
Thanks for reading! Please let me know what you thought of this chapter. Also let me know what you want to happen next as I'm kinda running out of ideas...
IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT - PLEASE, PLEASE READ:
I have posted this announcement in my other story Lost, but I know some of you don't read both books so I thought I'd make sure everyone knew this as it's pretty important. So, I'm going on a month long camp in a couple of weeks (I leave on the first of May) for school to practically the middle of nowhere, which means no internet or electronics, or even music! And, straight after I get back, I have exams for a whole week. Awesome.
Anyway, what I'm saying is that I'm not going to be able to update or even be on Wattpad for a total of 5, maybe 6, weeks. Darn.
I'm really sorry about this but I honestly can't do anything to avoid it.
