{in my time of dying}
{This chapter will probably not have a whole lot of Sam, like in the actual episode. Don't get mad at me. I mainly had ideas for Dean and Ana in this chapter. But I will mainly put Sam with John and Dean with Ana. If that makes sense. Please don't come at me, for the lack of Sam}
{REMEMBER WHEN YOU SEE ANA NINETY-NINE PERCENT OF IT IS HER SPIRIT. LIKE DEAN'S SPIRIT WAS IN THE EPISODE. BUT INSTEAD OF DEAN'S SPIRIT IT IS ANA'S SPIRIT}
───※ ·❆· ※───
The demon possessing a truck driver steps out of his truck and walks over to the wrecked impala. John, Dean and Ana are unconscious, then Sam who swallows barely awake. The demon pulls the driver's side door off its hinges revealing Sam pointing the Colt at the man.
"Back up. Or I'll kill you. I swear to God." Sam says.
"You won't. You're saving that bullet for someone else." The man says.
Sam cocks the gun. "You wanna bet?" He asks, as the demon leaves the truck driver through a black cloud of smoke, who then collapses. Sam uncocks the gun and drops his head back in relief.
"Oh my God!"
"Dad?" Sam asks turning his head towards his father.
"Did I do this?" The man asks as he was no longer possessed by the demon.
"Dad! Dean? Ana!"
───※ ·❆· ※───
A rescue helicopter descends to the site and all four are being loaded onto stretchers. John and Ana are still unconscious, as Dean and Sam are awake.
"Significant passenger side intrusion. Unresponsive. BP is 180 over 60, heart rate 95." A paramedic says referring to Ana.
"Tell me if she's okay!" Dean exclaims.
"You have to stay still." A paramedic says to the boyfriend of Ana.
"Is she even alive?" Dean asks frantically.
───※ ·❆· ※───
In a hospital room, Ana sits up, moves her jaw, and gets out of bed. She is wearing a white t-shirt, and blue hospital pants. She walks into the hallway. She is confused of why she is in a hospital room, then before she walks down the stairs it hits her. The car accident. But she doesn't remember the car accident as she was asleep in Dean's arms right before it happened.
"Sam? Dean? Anybody!" Ana calls out. She goes down the stairs to the front of the hospital and finds a nurses' station. "Excuse me. Hi, I, uh, I think I was in a car accident, my boyfriend and his brother. I just need to find them." Ana says as the nurse is unresponsive. "Hello?" Ana asks as she snaps her fingers. Ana then goes back upstairs, panicked and finds her room and sees her body, intubated and slowly dying.
Ana is still reeling from the shock of seeing her unconscious body. Ana turns, relieved as Dean enters her room. He stops at the door and stares at his girlfriend's body, breathing heavily. "Dean. You look good. Considering what happened." Ana says to her boyfriend but there was no response, it was like he couldn't hear her.
"Oh, no." Dean says under his breath, but Ana heard what he said.
"Baby, tell me you can hear me." Ana says to her boyfriend. "How is Sam? Is he okay? Give me something, baby!"
"Your brother and father are awake. You can go see them if you'd like." The doctor says to Dean.
"Thank God, Sam's okay." Ana says.
"Doc, what about my girlfriend?" Dean asks.
"Well, she sustained serious injury: blood loss, contusions to her liver and kidney. But it's the head trauma I'm worried about. There are early signs of cerebral edema." The doctor says to Dean. "Did she tell you."
"Tell me what?" Dean asks as Ana also looks at the doctor.
"She was pregnant." The doctor says as Dean felt his heart drop at hearing what the doctor said. It was more so because of how he said 'was' what made his heart drop.
"She was?" Dean asks after a moment of silence. He was still processing what the doctor said. Ana was pregnant.
"Yeah, she was, but since because of the car accident she lost the baby. She had a miscarriage." The doctor says as Ana's eyes immediately started getting teary. She never knew that she was pregnant as she hadn't missed her period yet.
"What can we do right now?" Dean asks.
"Well, we won't know her full condition until she wakes up. If she wakes up." The doctor says.
"If? What do you mean by that? Course she will wake up." Dean says as he turns to Ana's body which is on the bed. "She has to." He says quieter as if trying to convince himself that she will wake up.
"Of course I will wake up. I promise." Ana says to Dean.
"I have to be honest--" The doctor says before he got interrupted by Ana, but he doesn't know it was her, because it is her spirit.
"Oh, screw you, Doc. I'm waking up." Ana says.
"Most people with this degree of injury wouldn't have survived this long. She's fighting very hard. But you need to have realistic expectations." The doctor says as Ana flipped off the doctor.
"Come on, wake up. Lay some mojo on me baby or something." Ana says to Dean even if he can't hear or see her.
───※ ·❆· ※───
John is lying in a hospital bed; his arm is in a sling. Awkwardly one-handed, he pulls something out of his wallet. "Here. Give them my insurance." Dean takes the card his father gave him, smiling as he reads it.
"Elroy McGillicutty?" Dean asks in slight disbelief, as he couldn't help the small smile that formed on his lips.
"And his two loving sons. So, what else did the doctor say about Anastasia?" John asks. "What about your brother?"
"Nothing. The doctors won't do anything until she wakes up. I'll find a priest and lay some fricken mojo on her. I'm not letting her die on my watch. I just can't." Dean says as just then his brother walked into John's room, along with Ana's spirit that was behind him.
"Well look for someone." John says as Dean nods his head.
"Yeah." Dean says as his mind was elsewhere. All he could think about was Ana. If she was okay. Obviously, she wasn't. It didn't take rocket science to know that she was most definitely not okay. If she was okay, none of them would currently be in a hospital right now.
"But I don't know if we're going to find anyone." Sam says piping into his brother and father's conversation about Ana.
"Didn't you two find that faith healer or something." John says.
"Yeah, Ana did." Sam says.
"Alright, that was, that was one in a million." John says.
"So what? Do we just sit here with our thumbs up our ass?" Dean asks.
"No, I said we'd look. Alright? I'll check under every stone." John says before speaking again. "Where's the Colt?"
"My girlfriend is dying, and you're worried about the Colt?" Dean asks in disbelief at his father.
"We're hunting this demon, and maybe it's hunting us too. That gun may be our only card." John says to Dean.
"It's in the trunk. They dragged the car to a yard off of I-83." Sam says.
"Alright. You've gotta clean out that trunk before some junk man sees what's inside." John orders.
"Dean already called Bobby. He's like an hour out, Bobby is gonna tow the Impala back to his place." Sam says to his father.
"Alright. You, you go meet up with Bobby, you get that Colt, and you bring it back to me. And you two watch out for hospital security." John says.
"We got it covered." Dean says as he gets up to leave, but John stops him. John picks up a piece of paper and hands it to Dean.
"Hey. Here. I made a list of things I need, have Bobby pick them up for me." John says as Dean reads the list.
"Acacia? Oil of Abramelin? What's this stuff for?" Dean asks.
"Protection." John says.
"Hey, dad? You know, the demon, he said he had plans for me, and children like me. Do you have any idea what he meant by that?" Sam asks.
"No, I don't." John says as Sam and Dean leave, shutting the door to reveal Ana who had been leaning behind it.
"Well, you sure know something." Ana grumbles with an eyeroll at the father of Dean.
───※ ·❆· ※───
Sam and Dean look down at the mangled car, as the mangled Impala is at Bobby's. Though Dean's mind has been elsewhere. He hasn't said a word since the brothers left the hospital and that was an hour ago, because it is an hour drive from the hospital to Bobby's place. On the way here, all Dean could think about was Ana. Not that he thinks about Ana all the time, because he does. It is bad that if Sam and Bobby weren't here, Dean would be crying, because of Ana. Dean doesn't really cry that much, and that says a whole lot.
"Oh, man." Sam says as he looks at the impala.
"Look, guys. This...this just ain't worth a tow. I say we empty the trunk, sell the rest for scrap." Bobby says as Sam looked at Dean, and Dean looked down avoiding his brother's gaze.
"No. Dean will work on this car, he's gonna want to fix this." Sam says to Bobby, as the father of Anastasia looked at her boyfriend, and saw how Dean's shoulders were. It looked like Dean was physically there, but he wasn't mentally. Mentally, he was at the hospital with Ana.
"There's nothing to fix. The frame's a pretzel, and the engine's ruined. There's barely any parts worth salvaging." Bobby points out.
"Listen to me, Bobby. If there's only one working part, that's enough. We're not just going to give up on..." Sam says.
"Okay. You got it." Bobby says quietly.
"Here, uh, Dad, asked for you to get this stuff for him." Sam says as he hands Bobby a list, as he looks at it with a frown on his face.
"What's John want with this?" Bobby asks.
"Protection from the demon?" Sam asks, as Bobby gives him a look. "What?"
"Oh, nothing, it's just, uh--" Bobby says.
"Bobby? What's going on?" Sam asks as Dean barely looked up during the entire conversation.
───※ ·❆· ※───
Ana is walking in the hallway as there was nothing better for her to be doing right now. All she could think about was Dean. But her mind was also elsewhere. She was pregnant and she never knew. She; Anastasia Grace Singer was pregnant. Her of all people. It's not that she doesn't want to have kids, but she isn't completely ready to settle down. Then again, she doesn't want to stop hunting with Dean and Sam either. If she is being honest. Her and Dean weren't even trying to have kids, they were just having a make out session and things lead to other things and yeah.
Ana stops walking as she hears something. "What is that?" Just then a spirit whooshes past her, and she jumps back. "What the hell?"
Ana stalks the spirit down the hallway. She sees it go into a back hallway where a woman is lying on the floor, choking. "Help! Help!"
"Hey! I need some help in here!" Ana exclaims.
"I can't...breathe!" The woman cries out as she pants loudly trying desperately to breathe, then goes silent. Ana is leaning over her, looks on helplessly.
───※ ·❆· ※───
Sam and Dean, walk into the room with a duffel bag. Ana meets them at the door and starts trying to talk to Dean. "Dean! Tell me you can fricken' hear me. There's something in the hospital. You've got to bring me back and we got to hunt this thing. Dean!" Ana says to her boyfriend but there was no response.
"You two are quiet." John says as when Dean and Sam got into the room, they both have been quiet.
Sam turns to John fuming, as Dean hurls the bag onto the bed with a crash. "Did you think we wouldn't find out?"
"What are you talking about, Sam?" John asks.
"That stuff from Bobby. You don't use it to ward off a demon, you use it to summon one. You're planning on bringing the demon here, aren't you? Having some stupid macho showdown?!" Dean exclaims to his father as Ana shakes her head knowing that an argument is coming.
"I have a plan, boys." John says.
"That's exactly my point! Ana is dying, and you have a plan! You know what, you care more about killing this demon than you do saving my girlfriend!" Dean says to his father.
"No, no, no, guys, don't do this!" Ana's says overlapping the argument between the brothers and their father.
"Do not tell me how I feel! I'm doing this for Anastasia."
"You don't even like her. That is bullshit." Dean adds.
"How, dad? How is revenge going to help her? You're not thinking about anybody but yourself, it is the same selfish obsession!" Dean shouts.
"Come on guys, don't do this." Ana says overlapping the argument.
"You know, it's funny. I thought it was your obsession too! This demon killed your mother, killed Sam's girlfriend. You begged me to be a part of this hunt. Now, if you'd kill the damn thing when you had the chance, none of this would have happened." John says.
"It was possessing you, Dad, I would have killed you too." Sam says to his father.
"Yeah, and Anastasia would be awake right now, if the demon was dead." John says.
"Shut up, all of you!" Ana says even if which they can't hear her.
"Go to hell." Sam says.
"I should have never taken you three along in the first place. I knew it was a mistake. I knew I was wrong--" John says but he got cut off.
"I SAID SHUT UP!" Ana yells as she smacks a glass of water off the table and it goes flying, crashing to the floor. Sam, Dean and John look at each other confused as Ana looks stunned that it worked. "Huh, that actually worked." Just then Ana crumples in pain, flickering. Nurses and doctors start running by in the hallway. "What is it?" Ana asks as she gets up and follows the doctors.
Monitors are beeping, a doctor and some nurses are surrounding Ana's body, resuscitating her. "All clear." The doctor says.
Dean is huddling in the door with tears in his eyes. "No." Dean says under his breath. "Annie, come on baby." He says quieter.
"Still no pulse." The nurse says.
"Okay, let's go again, 360." The doctor says.
"Charging." The nurse says as Dean is in the doorway, crying and fidgeting. Ana comes behind Dean and sees a ghostly figure floating over her body lying in the bed.
"You get the hell away from me." Ana says as she runs to the bed and faces the floating figure down, yelling. "I said get back!" Ana grabs the spirit; she latches on it momentarily before the spirit hurls her back and then soars out of the room. The monitors are slow and quiet.
"We have a pulse. We're back into sinus rhythm." The nurse says as Ana runs into the hallway, looking for the spirit, but it vanished.
"Don't worry, Baby. I'm not going anywhere. I'm getting that thing before it gets me. It's some kind of spirit, but I could grab it. If I can grab it, I can kill it." Ana says.
Dean looks over to where Ana was confused. Ana wanders the halls, then she hears a girl yelling. "Can't you see me? Why won't you look at me?"
"Now what?" Ana grumbles under her breath.
"Somebody, talk to me! Say something, please!" The girl says as Ana walks down the stairs.
"Can you see me?" Ana asks the girl.
"Yeah." The girl says.
"Alright, just, uh, calm down. What's your name?" Ana asks.
"Tessa." The girl says.
"Okay, good, Tessa. I'm Ana." Ana says.
"What happening to me? Am - am I dead?" Tessa asks.
"That sort of depends." Ana says.
───※ ·❆· ※───
Ana and Tessa stand outside a room, watching what is apparently Tessa's body, hooked up to tubes and machines. A woman sits by the bed, holding her hand.
"I don't understand. I just came in for an appendectomy." Tessa says, as Ana slowly turns her head to Tessa.
"Well, I hate to bear bad news. But I think there were some complications." Ana says.
"It's just a dream, that's all. It's just a very weird, unbelievably vivid dream." Tessa says.
"Tessa. It's not a dream." Ana says.
"Then what else could it be?" Tessa asks.
"You ever heard of an out of body experience?" Ana asks.
"What are you?" Tessa asks.
"You see me messing with crystals or listening to Yanni? It's actually a very old idea. Got a lot of different names: Bilocation, crisis apparition, fetches...I think it's happening to us. And if it does, it means that we're spirits of people close to death." Ana explains.
"So, we're going to die?" Tessa asks.
"No. Not if we hold on. Our bodies can get better, we can snap right back in there and wake up." Ana says.
───※ ·❆· ※───
"What do you mean, you felt something?" Sam asks Dean.
"I mean, it felt like, like Ana. Like she was there, just out of eyeshot or something. But do you think it's even possible? I mean, do you think her spirit could be around?" Dean asks, more so to Sam.
"Anything's possible." John says.
"Well, there's one way to find out." Dean says as he heads for the door.
"Where are you going?" John asks.
"I gotta pick something up. I'll be back." Dean says.
"Wait, Dean. I promise I won't hunt this demon. Not until we know Anastasia's okay." John says as Dean nods his head and leaves.
───※ ·❆· ※───
Ana and Tessa are walking down the hallway. "I gotta say, I'm impressed." Ana says.
"With what?" Tessa asks.
"With you. Most people in your spot would be jello right now, but uh, you're taking this pretty well. Maybe a little better than I am." Ana says.
"Don't get me wrong. I was pretty freaked out at first. But now, I don't know. Maybe I'm dealing." Tessa says.
"So, you're okay with dying?" Ana asks.
"No, of course not. I just think whatever's gonna happen, it's out of my control, it's fate." Tessa says.
"Huh. Well, that's crap. You always have a choice. You can either roll over and die or you can keep fighting, no matter what---" Ana says, then she got cut off by a PA announcement.
"Where are you going?" Tessa asks.
"Just wait here." Ana says, as she runs down the hallway to another room in crisis. The same floating spirit is hovering over a little girl, who is being resuscitated. It reaches a hand into her face. "Get away from her!" Ana yells at the spirit as she lunges at the spirit which vanishes.
The nurses then stop resuscitation. "Alright, let's call it." The male doctor says.
"Time of death, five eleven PM." The female doctor says.
"At least she's not suffering anymore." The nurse says as Ana is stunned.
───※ ·❆· ※───
Dean enters Ana's room with Sam beside him, as Dean is clutching a brown paper bag in his arms. "Hey, I think maybe you're around, babygirl. And if you are, don't make fun of me for this, but um, well, there's one way we can talk." Dean says as he pulls out a box labeled Mystical Talking Board. Ana is behind her boyfriend with her arms crossed over her chest.
"Oh, you gotta be shitting me." Ana grumbles as Dean circles around the bed and sits cross-legged on the floor. He opens the box and pulls out the box.
"Ana? Baby, are you here?" Dean asks.
"I feel like I'm at a freakish slumber party." Ana grumbles as Sam sits in a chair watching his brother. Ana sits opposite of Dean in front of the board. "This is the stupidest thing you have ever done."
Dean has his hands poised on the pointer. Ana places her fingers on it, and slowly concentrating slides the pointer to the 'yes' on the board as Ana gasps. "I'll be dammed." Ana says.
Dean laughs in relief, glad that his princess is nearby. "It's good to hear from you, baby. It hasn't been the same without you, sweetheart."
"Ain't that the truth." Ana says, as she places her fingers on the pointer again and slides it
"Ana, what? H? U? Hunt? Hunting? What, are you hunting baby?" Dean asks Ana, as the pointer slides back to 'yes.' "It's in the hospital, what you're hunting? Do, do you know what it is?"
"Dude, one question at a time." Ana says.
"What is it, baby?" Dean asks as the pointer slides again spelling out 'reaper'.
"I don't think it's killing people. But it's taking them. You know, when their times' just up." Ana says.
"A reaper. Annie. Is it after you?" Dean asks as the pointer slides to 'yes'. "If it's here, naturally. There's no way to stop it."
"Yeah, you can't kill death." Ana says.
"Baby, you're um..."
"I'm screwed, Dean." Ana says.
"No. No, no, no, um, there's got to be a way." Dean says standing up as he starts pacing the room. "There's got to be a way. Dad will know what to do."
───※ ·❆· ※───
Dean comes back from John's room with the journal, he sits on the edge of Ana's bed. "Hey, so Dad wasn't in his room."
"Go figure." Ana grumbles with an eyeroll.
"But I got Dad's journal, so who knows? Maybe there's something here." Dean says, as Sam is on the other side of Dean. Dean flips through the journal and leafs through it, glancing up at Ana's unconscious body on the bed. Ana comes to stand behind Dean.
"Thanks for not giving up on me, baby." Ana says as Dean turns to a page that says 'reaper'. Ana leans over and reads something. Her eyes go wide. "You got to be fucking kidding me." Ana says as she leaves the hospital room and walks down the hall until she sees Tessa sitting in an empty bed.
Tessa is sitting on the edge of the bed; she is dressed different and not in the hospital clothes Ana is in. "Hi. Ana."
"You know, you read the most interesting things. For example, did you know that reapers can alter human perception? I sure didn't. Well, I did. Basically, they can make themselves appear however they want. Like, say, uh, a girl like you."
"I was wondering when you would figure it out." Tessa says.
"I should have known. That whole 'accepting fate' rap of yours is far too laid back for a dead chick. But the mother, and the body, I'm still trying to figure that one out." Ana says.
"It's my sandbox, I can make you see whatever I want." Tessa says. "You didn't give me much choice. You saw my true form and you flipped out. Kinda hurts a girl's feelings. That was the only I could get you to talk to me."
"Okay, fine. We're talking. What the hell do you want to talk about?" Ana asks as she crosses her arms over her chest.
"How death is nothing to fear." Tessa says as she touches Ana's cheek, and Ana flinches a little. "It's your time to go, Ana. And you're living on borrowed time, already."
───※ ·❆· ※───
Dean is standing on the window side of Ana's bed, with his hands in his pockets as Ana's spirit isn't there. "Annie, are you here?" Dean asks as he looks around. "I couldn't find anything in the book. I don't know how to help you, babygirl. But I'll keep trying, alright? As long as you keep fighting. I know you can fight baby. Come on, you can't...you can't v me here with Sammy and Dad. We'd kill each other, and you know that." There was a pause before Dean continued. "Baby, you gotta hold on. You can't go, baby, not now. Ana baby, please, come back. I love you, baby. More than you know."
───※ ·❆· ※───
Ana is staring out a dark window in the empty room. "Look, I'm sure you've heard this before, but... you've got to make an exception, you gotta cut me a break."
"Stage three: bargaining." Tessa says.
"I'm serious. My boyfriend and his father are in danger. They need me. Dean needs me." Ana says.
"This is over." Tessa says.
"No, it isn't." Ana says.
"It is for you, Ana. You're not the first girl I've plucked from the field. They all feel the same. They can't leave. Victory hangs in the balance. But they're wrong. The battle goes on without them." Tessa says.
"There's no such thing as an honorable death. My corpse is going to rot in the ground and my boyfriend is going to die!" Ana says.
"Well, like you said. There's always a choice. I can't make you come with me. But you're not getting back into your body. And that's just facts. So, yes you can stay, you'll stay here for years. Disembodied, scared, and over the decades it'll probably drive you mad. Maybe you'll even get violent." Tessa says.
"What are you saying?" Ana asks.
"Ana. How do you think angry spirits are born? They can't let go and they can't move on. And you're about to become one. The same thing you hunt."
───※ ·❆· ※───
Ana is still in the empty room sitting on the bed. Tessa is behind her. She strokes Ana's hair tenderly which is making Ana uncomfortable on so many levels.
"It's time to put the pain behind you." Tessa says.
"And go where?" Ana asks.
"Sorry. I can't give away the big punchline. Moment of truth. No changing your mind later. So, what's it gonna be?" Tessa asks as just when Ana turns to look at Tessa the lights start flickering.
"What are going that for?" Ana asks.
"I'm not going it." Tessa says as the two of them turn to the vent in the floor and see black demon ichor pour out of it.
"What the hell? Seriously? Why now?" Ana grumbles under her breath. "Great, now there's a fucking demon here."
"You can't do this! Get away!" Tessa exclaims.
"What's happening?!" Ana exclaims, as Tessa screams as the demon flows into her mouth.
She turns towards the redhead with her eyes a glowing yellow. Azazel. "Today's your lucky day, kid." Azazel says as he places a hand on Ana's forehead, and she convulses.
───※ ·❆· ※───
Dean is sitting on Ana's bed as Sam is sitting on a nearby chair, asleep. Ana's body suddenly gasps waking up and starts choking on the tube in her throat.
"Ana?" Dean says as he runs into the hallway. "Help! I need some help!"
"I can't explain it. The edema's vanished. The internal contusions are healed. Your vitals are good. You have some kind of angel watching over you." The doctor says.
"Thanks, doc." Ana says as the doctor then leaves. Ana turns to Dean as he looks at her, but she then looks away from him.
Before Ana could say anything as she was going to, however that was cut short when Dean brought her into his arms without hesitation. He hugged her as tight as she could, knowing that the two of them needed it. They both needed each other. She needed him and he needed her.
"It's okay, babygirl. It's okay. I'm here." Dean says softly as he presses a lingering kiss on the top of her forehead. Before Ana could stop herself, a quiet sob escaped her lips, which only made Dean hug her tighter, wanting to get her to stop crying. He hates seeing her like this. "It's okay, babygirl." Dean says softly to her as his hands are moving up and down on her back comforting her.
Before Dean could say anything else, John is standing at the doorway. "How she feeling?" John asks Dean. Dean almost didn't look up at his father when John said that. He was trying to keep his emotions regulated for the sake because Ana is now awake and not unconscious like she has been. He really tries not to yell around Ana.
"Where were you last night?" Sam asks his father as Dean stays by Ana holding her close. Afraid that if she isn't close to him then he will snap at his father. He still has his hand moving up and down on her back in a soothing motion, calming her down.
"I had some things to take care of." John replies to his youngest son as Ana rolls her eyes, as Dean moves her onto his lap as her back is leaning on his chest. He has his arms around her protecting her so that she wouldn't fall. Not that he would let her move an inch anyway. But to be on the safe side.
"That's specific." Ana grumbles under her breath as like always John didn't spare her a single glance. At this point she isn't surprised at all by it. She had gotten used to John not giving her a single glance.
"Did you go after the demon?" Dean asks his father as his thumb is softly rubbing on Ana's knuckles as she just watches this unfold in front of her.
"No." John says which was obviously a lie on so many levels.
"You know, why I don't believe you right now?" Sam says to his father, which isn't wrong. Besides Ana, as she was unconscious Dean and Sam don't believe their father for a second.
"Can we not fight? You know, half the time we're fighting I don't know what we're fighting about. We're just butting heads. Sammy, I, I've made some mistakes. But I've always done the best I could. I just don't want to fight anymore, okay?" John says which is really starting to freak Ana out.
Because the last time John was talking like this he was possessed. "Dad, are you alright?" Dean asks his father.
"Yeah, yeah. I'm just a little tired, okay. Hey, son, would you, uh, would you mind getting me a cup of caffeine?" John says.
"Yeah, yeah sure." Sam says as he leaves.
"Dad, what is it?" Dean asks his father as his grip on Ana tightens slightly.
"You know, when you were a kid, I'd come home from a hunt, after what I'd seen, I'd be, I'd be wrecked, and you, you'd come up to me and you, you'd put your hand on my shoulder and you'd look me in the eye and you'd... you'd say, "it's okay, dad." John says as there's a pause before he continues. "Dean, I'm sorry."
"What?" Dean asks.
"You shouldn't have said that to me. I should have been saying that to you. You know, I put, I put too much on your shoulders, I made you grow up too fast. You took care of Sammy; you took care of me. You did that, and you didn't complain, not once. I just want you to know that I am so proud of you."
"This really you talking?" Dean asks his father, as the last time that John had said that he was proud of him, he was possessed. This time he isn't taking any chances.
"Yeah, yeah, it's really me." John says.
"Why are you saying this stuff?" Dean asks as he continues softly rubbing his thumbs over Ana's knuckles. John comes closer and puts a hand on Dean's shoulder.
"I want you to watch out for Sammy, okay?" John says.
"Yeah, dad, you know I will. You're scaring me." Dean says.
"Don't be scared Dean." John says as he leans over and whispers something into Dean's ear. Dean pulls back in shock, processing what John said. After that John leaves, and Dean stares after him. After a minute he turns back to Ana and sees that she had fallen asleep, which would make sense as she's been quiet and not saying anything.
Like always he's just going to let her sleep. He knows why she fell asleep, because she is back being in his arms. Back in her comfort which is Dean. He never minded being her comfort, he loves it actually. He loves how she leans on him and goes to him for everything. At least when she isn't at Bobby's.
