{dead in the water}
Dean knows that when Ana is running a fever and a sore throat that is going around, and she is sick not to make jokes about her being hot. Like he typically would when she isn't sick. The most that she would allow him to do, is him calling her, his 'sick princess', but that is about it. If it involved 'princess' she would most likely allow it. Though that all depends on what her mood was. Ana was going through allergies as it is that time of the year.
A truck goes past a neon sign that says 'hotel' behind a building that says the Lynnwood Inn, the impala is parked in front. There is most an empty plate in front of Dean who is circling obituaries in a newspaper. Ana is eating a piece of bacon that was left on Dean's plate which he didn't mind. He shares his food with Ana anyway. She gives him those fricken puppy dog eyes that he can't resist, and most of the time she knows what she is doing, but she doesn't have any regrets.
Ana is leaning her head onto Dean's shoulder which he doesn't mind as he circles an obituary that is about a girl named Sophie Carlton who died in a swimming accident in Lake Manitoc, Wisconsin. A couple moments later Sam came back from the bathroom, and he sat on his chair, as just then their waitress named Wendy came to the table. She completely ignored that Ana and Dean were obviously in a relationship which made Ana roll her eyes at her. Dean is hers.
"Can I get you anything else?" She asks, as she had a smile on her face that Ana didn't like at all. Dean looks up at her, as he fought himself of rolling his eyes at their waitress.
"The check." Ana says bluntly, as Dean put his hand on Ana's thigh as he rubbed his hand on her thigh. Ana didn't care if it came out rudely.
"Okay." The waitress says before she walked away which was a good thing because Ana didn't know how much more of their waitress obviously flirting with Dean that she could take before she snapped.
"Here takes a look at this. I think I got this one. Lake Manitoc, Wisconsin. Last week, Sophie Carlton, eighteen, walks into the lake, doesn't walk out. Authorities dragged the water, nothing. Sophie Carlton is the third Lake Manitoc drowning this year. None of the other bodies were found either. They had a funeral two days ago."
"A funeral?" Sam asks as Dean nods his head.
"Yeah, it's weird, they buried an empty coffin. For, uh, closure or whatever." Dean says as Sam looks at his brother.
"Closure? What closure? People don't just disappear, Dean. Other people just stop looking for them." Sam says as Ana nods her head at Sam as he did have a point, but she wasn't going to say anything.
"Something you want to say to me." Dean asks his brother.
"The trail for Dad. It's getting colder every day." Sam says.
"Exactly. So, what are we supposed to do?" Dean asks.
"I don't know. Something. Anything." Sam says with attitude as Dean gives his brother a look.
"You know what? I'm sick of this attitude. You don't think I want to find Dad as much as you do?" Dean asked his brother, as Ana takes a sip from her coffee, giving her something to do. She doesn't like any arguing of any sort; matter of fact she absolutely hates it.
"Yeah, I know you do, it's just--" Sam says before he gets cut off by Ana.
"Listen, ever since Dean moved in with me two years, ago, neither of us have heard from John until two weeks before we came to pick you up." Ana says to Sam, as Dean nods his head at Ana, agreeing with her. "Until we find John, we're going to kill everything bad between here and there. Okay?" Ana adds which makes both of the brothers nod their heads at what she said, as she isn't wrong.
"Alright, Lake Manitoc." Sam says. "How far?" He asks his brother as they paid for the check, and they leave the diner. Ana held onto Dean's hand as they walked out to the Impala.
"How you feelin', baby?" Dean asks Ana as she didn't say anything besides groaning as a response, which made him try to keep his laughter from coming out. Mainly because he doesn't want to get hit in the shoulder for laughing.
"Same as the last time you asked." Ana grumbles as Dean kissed her head.
"I know." Dean says as he opened the door for her to get in as she gave him a fake salute, and he returned it. Ana got in the backseat, and grabs her fuzzy blanket that she has, she wrapped herself in the blanket.
Soon enough like always there was a song that was playing from the cassette tapes, this time it was Enter Sandman by Metallica. Which is oddly enough Ana's happy song, which Dean isn't complaining as it is his favorite song too.
A couple hours later, to be expected, Ana fell asleep, mainly because she is sick, and she needs the rest. Ana was sound asleep when the brothers got to the Carlton house, where Sophie used to live before she died. The Impala pulls up in front of the house, as the car engine stops. Dean turns back to Ana, and she is sound asleep. He knew that she would be fine until him and Sam got back.
───※ ·❆· ※───
When the brothers got to the door, Dean knocks on it, as then Will Carlton opens the door. "Will Carlton?" Dean asks as the man in front of him nods his head.
"Yeah, that's right." Will Carlton says to Dean, as him and Sam held up their fake badges.
"I'm Agent Ford. This is Agent Hamill." Dean says.
"We're with the US Wildlife Service." Sam says as then Will leads the two of them into the house, and through the back door to the dock where Sophie died.
Bill Carlton is sitting on a bench on the dock, then Sophie's brother, Will brings Dean and Sam around to see the grieving father of Sophie.
"She was about a hundred yards out." Will tells before he points to the water. "That's where the got dragged down." Will says.
"And you're sure she didn't just drown?" Dean asks.
"Yeah. She was a varsity swimmer. She practically grew up in that lake. She was as safe out there as in her own bathtub." Will says.
"So, no splashing? No signs of distress?" Sam asks.
"No, that's what I am telling you." Will says, slightly snapping at the two Winchester brothers.
"Did you see any shadows in the water? Maybe some dark shape breach the surface?" Sam asks.
"No, again, she was really far out there." Will says.
"You ever see any strange tracks by the shoreline?" Dean asks.
"No, never. Why? Why, what do you think's out there?" Will asks.
"We'll let you know as soon as we do." Dean says as he heads back as Sam was still by the brother of Sophie.
"What about your father?" Sam asks as Dean stops and turns back. "Can we talk to him?"
Will turns back to look at Bill, then back to Sam. "Look, if you don't mind. I mean...he didn't see anything and he's kind of been through a lot." Will says.
"We understand." Sam as the two of them go back to the car. When the brothers got back to the car, Ana was still asleep, as she hadn't moved an inch from when they got out of the car the first time.
After Dean and Sam got to the police station, Dean left Ana in the Impala again, as he wants her to sleep as much as possible because she is sick, and she needs to rest as much as she can get.
"Now, I'm sorry, but why does the Wildlife Service care about an accidental drowning?" Sheriff Jake Devins says.
"You sure it's accidental? Will Carlton saw something grab his sister." Sam says.
"Like what?" The sheriff asks as they walk into his office. The sheriff motions two chairs in front of his desk. "Here, sit, please. There are no indigenous carnivores in that lake." Sam and Dean sit in the chairs across from the desk. "There's nothing even big enough to pull down a person, unless it was the Loch Ness Monster."
"Yeah." Dean says as he laughs, then stops. "Right." He adds as Sam glances at Dean.
"Will Carlton was traumatized, and sometimes the mind plays tricks. Still--" The Sheriff sits down in his chair. "We dragged the entire lake. We even ran a sonar sweep, just to be sure, and there was nothing down there."
"That's weird, though, I mean, that's, that's the third missing body this year." Dean says, as the sheriff nods his head.
"I know. These are people from my town. These are people I care about." The sheriff says.
"I know." Dean says.
"Anyway..." The sheriff says. "All this...it won't be a problem much longer."
"What do you mean?" Dean asks.
"Well, the dam, of course." The sheriff says.
"Of course, the dam. It's uh, it sprung a leak." Dean says.
"It's falling apart, and the feds don't won't give us the grant repair it, so they've opened the spillway. In another six months, there won't be much of a lake. There won't be much of a town either. But as Federal Wildlife, you already knew that."
"Exactly." Dean says.
Then a young woman, named Andrea Barr taps on the door. "Sorry, am I interrupting?" She asks as Dean and Sam stand up. "I can come back later."
"Gentleman, this is my daughter." The sheriff says.
"It's a pleasure to meet you, I'm Dean." Dean says as he shakes Andrea's hand with a small smile.
"Hi." Andrea says as she returns the smile that Dean gave her.
"They're from the Wildlife Service, about the lake." The sheriff says.
"Oh." Andrea says, as a boy walks in around, Andrea.
"Oh, hey there. What's your name?" Dean asks the little boy, but he walks away without speaking, as Andrea follows the little boy.
"His name is Lucas." The sheriff says. Lucas and Andrea are in the main room, Andrea gives him some crayons out of a box.
"Is he okay?" Sam asked.
"My grandson's been through a lot. We all have." The sheriff says, as he stands and goes to the office door. "Well, if there's anything else I can do for you, please let me know."
"Thanks. You know, now that you mentioned it, could you point us in the direction of a reasonably priced motel?" Dean asked.
"Lakefront Motel. Go around the corner. It's about two blocks south."
"Okay, thanks." Dean says to her as she nods her head.
With that the two brothers leave and they go to the Impala. Where Ana had woken up from her nap, as she has been napping for a couple hours. From the looks of it, it looks like she just woke up, not too long ago. Dean kisses her head through the window, as she gave him a sleepy smile.
"Hey, baby. How you feelin'?" Dean asks as Ana shrugs her shoulder.
"Still like shit." Ana says as Dean hands her a bottle of orange juice and she didn't waste any time in drinking it. "Thanks."
"Don't mention it, baby." Dean says as Ana wrapped herself back in her fluffy blanket, the comfort, the softness brings her a little dose of heaven. That and it was one of the few things that she brought from Portland.
"So, do you still live in Portland?" Sam asks as Dean started the car as Ana nods her head.
"Oh, yeah I still do. I'm not leaving Portland. It is like my own little um 'happy' place in a sense."
"That's cool. Never been to Portland." Sam says to Ana as she nods her head.
───※ ·❆· ※───
Sam is working on his laptop, and Dean is going through his clothes. Ana is sitting beside Dean on their bed, they've just been having their own conversation.
"So, there's the three drowning victims this year." Sam says.
"Any before that?" Ana asks as Dean had caught her up on what's going on.
"Uh, yeah." Sam says as he has a browser window open to The Lake Manitoc Tribune. DROWNING TAINTS ICE FISHING FESTIVAL. He clicks and another browser window comes up, again the Tribune: 12-YEAR-OLD GIRL DROWNING IN LAKE, Second drowning in 6 months at Lake Manitoc.
"Six more spread out over the past thirty-five-years. Those bodies were never recovered either. If there is something out there, it is picking up its pace." Sam says as Dean tosses an item of clothing on the bed.
"So, what we got a lake monster on a binge?" Dean asks as Ana smirks at what he said. She grabs her fuzzy blanket and wraps it around her, which makes her look like a cocoon.
"This whole lake monster theory, it, it just bugs me." Sam says as Dean and Ana come over to read over Sam's shoulder.
"Why?" Ana and Dean ask in unison, as they do their fist-bump like they always do.
"Loch Ness, uh, Lake Champlain, there are literally hundreds of eyewitness accounts, but here, almost nothing." Sam says as he looks at the Tribune homepage. "Whatever it is out there, no one's living to talk about it."
Sam scrolls to the comments section of an article and Dean points at it. "Wait, Barr, Christopher Barr. Where have I heard that name before?" Dean asks.
Sam reads from the page. "Christopher Barr, the victim in May."
"Oh, Christopher Barr was Andrea's husband and the little boy's father. Apparently, he took Lucas out swimming. Lucas was on a floating wooden platform when Chris drowned. Two hours before the kid got rescued." Ana reads the article that was on the screen.
"Yeah, Lucas." Dean says to Ana.
Sam clicks the picture for a better look then scratches his head. "Maybe we have an eyewitness after all."
"No wonder that kid was so freaked out. Watching one of your parents die isn't something you get over with." Dean says, as Ana looks away when Dean says that. Ana misses her mom Karen, who was her dad Bobby's wife. Karen was the one thing that Ana had for a mom. Ana never talked about Karen at all. Not even to Dean.
───※ ·❆· ※───
Kids are laughing and playing, Andrea sits on a bench and watches Lucas, who is at another bench coloring and playing with his toy soldiers.
"Can we join you." Sam says as Andrea looks up and Sam, Dean and Ana are there.
"I'm here with my son." Andrea says as Ana gave her a small wave in return.
Dean looks over at Lucas. "Oh. Mind if I say hi?" Dean asks as he goes over to Lucas, as he is holding Ana's hand.
"Tell your friend this whole Jerry Maguire thing is not going to work on me." Andrea says as Sam sits next to Andrea.
"I don't think that's what this is about." Sam says as Dean approaches Lucas.
"How's it going?" Dean kneels down next to the bench where Lucas is coloring. When Lucas doesn't even look up, Dean picks up one of the toy soldiers. Dean imitates guns and explosions, then tosses the toy soldier down.
"So, crayons are more your thing? That's cool. Chicks dig artists." Dean says as Ana smiles at what Dean says. "You see the girl beside me? This is Ana she's, my girlfriend. I know I have a girlfriend, right?" Dean says to Lucas which makes Ana smile.
Lucas has a pile of drawings on the bench. Dean takes a look The top one is of a big black swirl; the second one is a red bicycle. "Hey, these are pretty good. You mind if I sit and draw with you for a while?"
"Dean picks up a crayon. "I'm not so bad myself." Dean says as he sits on the bench, picks up a pad of paper, and starts drawing.
"You know, I'm thinking you can hear me, you just don't want to talk. I don't know exactly what happened to your dad, but I know it was something really bad. I think I know how you feel. When I was your age, I saw something." There was a pause.
"Anyway. Well, maybe you don't think anyone will listen to you, or, uh...or believe you. I want you to know that I will. You don't even have to say anything. You could draw me a picture about what you saw that day, with your dad, on the lake. Okay, no problem. This is for you." Dean says as he hands Lucas the picture he drew.
"This is my family." Dean says as he points at each person. "That's my dad. That's my mom. That's my geek brother, that's me, and the girl beside me is my girlfriend, Ana. Technically her name is Anastasia, but she kills me if I call her Anastasia. So, I call her Ana." Dean says as Ana smiles. "Alright, so I'm a sucky artist. I'll see you around, Lucas." Dean and Ana heads back to Sam and Andrea. Lucas picks up the picture.
Dean and Ana approaches Andrea and Sam. "Lucas hasn't said a word, not even to me. Not since his dad's accident." Andrea says.
"Yeah, we heard. Sorry." Dean says as Andrea nods her head.
"What is the doctor's saying?" Sam asks.
"That it's a kind of post-traumatic stress." Andrea says.
"That can't be easy. For either of you." Ana pipes up her voice raspy and sore.
"We moved in with my dad. He helps out a lot. It's just...when I think about what Lucas went through, what he saw..." Andrea says.
"Kids are strong. You'd be surprised what they can deal with." Dean says as Lucas leaves the bench, heading for the group.
"You know, he used to have such life. He was hard to keep up with, to tell you the truth. Now he just sits there. Drawing those pictures, playing with those army men. I just wish--" Andrea says as Lucas walks up, carrying a picture. "Hey, sweetie."
Lucas hands Dean the picture. "Thanks. Thanks, Lucas." Dean says as it's a picture of the Carlton house. Lucas then heads back to the bench.
───※ ·❆· ※───
Dean is inside the motel room sitting on his and Ana's bed with her beside him. Sam opens the door and comes in. "So, I think it's safe to say we can rule out Nessie." Sam says as the couple looks up at the younger brother.
"What do you mean?" Dean asks as Sam sits on the other side of Dean.
"I just drove past the Carlton house. There was an ambulance there. Will Carlton is dead." Sam says.
"Did he drown?" Ana asks Sam.
"Yup, in the sink." Sam says as Dean looks up at Sam confused.
"What the hell? So, you're right, this isn't a creature. We're dealing with something else." Dean says.
"Yeah, but what?" Sam asks.
"I don't know. Water wrath, maybe? Some kind of demon? I mean something that controls water...water that comes from the same source."
"The lake." Sam and Ana say in unison.
"Yeah." Dean says.
"Which would explain why it's upping the body count. The lake is draining. It'll be dry in a few months. Whatever this thing is, whatever it wants, it's running out of time." Sam says.
"And if it can get through the pipes, it can get to anyone, almost anywhere." Dean says as he stands up.
"This is going happen again soon." Dean says as he sits down on a chair.
"And we do know one other thing for sure. We know this has got something to do with Bill Carlton." Sam says.
"Yeah, it took both his kids." Dean says.
"And I've been asking around. Lucas' dad, Chris, Bill Carlton's godson." Sam says.
"Yeah, let's go pay Mr. Carlton a visit." Dean says.
───※ ·❆· ※───
Bill Carlton is sitting on the bench on the dock. "Mr. Carlton?" Bill looks up. Sam, Dean and Ana approach. "We'd like to ask you a few questions, if you don't mind."
"We're from the Department--" Dean says.
"I don't care who you're with. I've answered enough questions today." Bill says.
"Your son said he saw something in that lake. What about you? You ever see anything out there? Mr. Carlton, Sophie's drowning and Will's death, we think there might be a connection to you or your family." Sam says to the father.
"My children are gone. It's....it's worse than dying. Go away. Please." Bill says as Dean, Ana and Sam head back to the car.
"What do you think?" Sam asks.
"Aw, I think the poor guy's been through hell. I also think he's not telling us something." Dean says as Sam leans on the Impala.
"So, now's that?" Dean asks, as Dean goes still. "What is it?"
"Huh." Dean says as Ana is standing beside Dean. "Maybe Bill's not the only one who knows something." Dean pulls out the picture Lucas brought him, which is of the Carlton house. Dean looks at Sam.
───※ ·❆· ※───
"I'm sorry, but I don't think it's a good idea." Andrea says.
"I just need to talk to him." Dean says.
Sam, Dean and Ana are inside Andrea's house talking to her.
"Just for a few minutes." Dean says.
"He won't say anything. What good's it going to do?" Andrea says.
"Andrea, we think people might get hurt. We think something's happening out there." Sam says.
"My husband, the others, they just drowned. That's all." Andrea says.
"If that's what you really believe, then we'll. But if you think there's even a possibility that something else could be going on here, please let me talk to your son." Dean says.
Lucas is coloring, toy soldiers standing around him. Dean, Andrea, Ana and Sam approach the doorway. Dean enters the room and crouches down by Lucas.
"Hey, Lucas. You remember me?" Dean asks, as Lucas has drawn two more pictures of a red bicycle. "You know, I uh, I wanted to thank you for that last drawing. But the thing is, I need your help again." Dean says Lucas is drawing a person in water. Dean opens the house picture and puts it down in front of Lucas. "How did you know to draw this? Did you know something bad was going to happen? Maybe you could nod yes or no for me." Dean says as Lucas keeps coloring.
"You're scared. It's okay. I understand. See, when I was your age, I saw something real bad happen to my mom, and I was scared, too. I didn't feel like talking, just like you. But see, my mom--I know she wanted me to be brave. I think about that every day. And I do my best to be brave, and maybe your dad wants you to be brave too." Dean says as Lucas drops his crayon and looks up at Dean. He hands Dean a picture of a white church, a yellow house, and a boy with a blue baseball cap, and red bicycle in front of a wooden fence.
"Thanks, Lucas." Dean says.
───※ ·❆· ※───
Dean, Sam and Ana are in the Impala, Sam is holding the church picture that Lucas had drew. "Andrea said the kid never drew like that, till his dad died."
"There are cases going through a traumatic experience could make people more sensitive to premonitions, psychic tendencies." Sam says.
"Whatever's out there, what if Lucas is tapping into it somehow? I mean, it's only a matter of time before somebody else drowns, so if you got a better lead, please." Dean says.
"Alright, we got another house to find." Sam says.
"The only problem is there's about a thousand of those around here." Sam says.
"Oh, College Boy thinks he's so smart." Dean says sarcastically as Ana hit his head. "Ow. That doesn't mean you can hit me, sweetheart." Dean says as he rubbed his head where Ana had hit him.
"You know, um...what you said about mom...you never told me that before." Sam says to Dean.
"It's no big deal." Dean says as Ana sighs at her boyfriend knowing that he is pushing away his feelings. "Oh, God, we're not going to have to hug it out or anything, are we?"
"I won't object." Ana pipes up as Dean couldn't help but chuckle at what she said, knowing it was true.
"I know you won't, princess." Dean says knowing that it was true, Ana wouldn't object hugging Dean.
───※ ·❆· ※───
Sam, Dean and Ana approach a white church shaped like the one in Lucas' drawing. Dean holds up the picture and looks at it, comparing it to the scene in front of him; there's a yellow house next to the church and a wooden fence near the house. Sam looks at Dean as Ana does the same. The three of them look up at the church and cross the street to the house.
"We're sorry to bother you, ma'am..." Dean says as the three of them are inside the house speaking to an old woman. "...but does a little boy live here, by chance? He might wear a blue ball cap, has a red bicycle."
"No, sir. Not for a very long time. Peter's been gone for thirty-five years now." Mrs. Sweeney says. There's a picture of Peter on the side table, as Mrs. Sweeney sighs. "The police never--I never had any idea what happened. He just disappeared." Sam points out to Dean of a number of toy soldiers on a table. "Losing him--you know...it's...it's worse than dying."
Dean glances at Sam. "Did he disappear from here? I mean, from this house?" Dean asks as Ana is sitting next to him.
"He was supposed to ride his bike straight home after school, but he never showed up." Mrs. Sweeney says.
Dean picks up a picture off the mirror. There are two boys in the picture, one is with Peter with a bicycle. Dean reads from the back of the picture. "Peter Sweeney and Bill Carlton, nineteen seventy."
───※ ·❆· ※───
"Okay, so this little boy Peter Sweeney vanishes, and this is all connected to Bill Carlton somehow." Ana says as they're in the car now.
"Yeah, Bill sure as hell seems to be hiding something, huh?" Dean asks, as Ana nods her head.
"And Bill, the people he loves, they're all getting punished." Sam says.
"So, what if Bill did something to Peter?" Dean asks as Ana thinks it over.
"What if Bill killed him?" Ana asks softly, more so to herself than anything but it was loud enough for the brothers to hear what she said.
"Peter's spirit would be furious. It'd want revenge. It's possible."
The Impala pulls up in front of the Carlton house. Sam, Dean and Ana approach the house.
"Mr. Carlton?" Sam asks as then an engine roars. The three of them go around the house to see Bill going out on the lake on his boat.
"Check it out." Ana says as the three of them run to the dock, yelling.
"Mr. Carlton! You need to come back! Come out of the water! Turn the boat around!" Dean yells.
"Mr. Carlton!" Sam yells as Bill ignores them and keeps going. The water rises up and flips Bill's boat over, the boat and Bill then vanish. Ana's mouth parts open when she sees it happening.
"Yeah, that is one angry spirit." Ana mutters as Dean nods his head as he grabs her hand, and they then go back to the car.
"You don't say, baby." Dean says.
───※ ·❆· ※───
Lucas is sitting in a chair, rocking back and forth. Andrea is sitting next to him, holding a paper bag and a plastic container. "Baby, what's wrong?"
Sam, Dean, Ana and Sheriff Devins, walk into the door, as Andrea looks over.
"Sam, Dean and Ana." Andrea says as Ana gives the mother of Lucas a fake salute of a greeting. Andrea stands up, putting the bag and container on her chair. "I didn't expect to see you three here."
"So, now you're on a first-name basis. What are you doing here?" Sheriff Devins says.
"I brought you dinner." Andrea says.
"I'm sorry, sweetheart. I don't really have the time." Sheriff Devins says.
"I heard about Bill Carlton. Is it true? Is something going on with the lake?" Andrea asks.
"Right now, we don't know what the truth is. But I think it might be better if you and Lucas went on home." Sheriff Devins says.
Lucas looks up and whines, looking stricken, and he jumps up and runs out with Andrea following him outside.
Sheriff Devins throws his jacket and goes into his office, Sam, Ana and Dean follows him. "Okay, just so I'm clear, you see something...attack Bill's boat, sending Bill...who is a very good swimmer, by the way--into the drink, and you never see him again?"
Dean glances at Sam. "Yeah, that sums it up." Dean says.
"And I'm supposed to believe this, even though I've already sonar-swept that entire lake? And what you're describing is impossible? And you're not really Wildlife Service?" Sheriff Devins says as Dean and Ana look surprised.
'Shit, he found out. well, that's not supposed to happen'. Ana thought in her head.
"That's right. I checked. Departments never heard of you two. Whatever the girl is too." Sheriff Devins says as Ana wanted to say something, but she stopped herself from doing so.
"See, now we can explain that." Dean says to the Sheriff.
"Enough. Please. The only reason you're breathing free air, is one of Bill's neighbors saw him steering out that boat just before you did. So, we have a couple options here. I can arrest you for impersonating government officials and hold you as material witnesses to Bill Carlton's appearance. Send the girl to a group home while you two are in jail. Or we can chalk this all up to a bad day, you get into your car, you put this town in your rearview mirror, and you don't even darken my doorstep again." Sheriff Devins says, as Ana nonchalantly puts a cough drop in her mouth and puts the wrapper in her hoodie pocket.
"Number two sounds good." Sam says as Ana and Dean nod their heads.
"That's the one I'd pick." Sheriff Devins says.
───※ ·❆· ※───
Dean, Sam and Ana are in the Impala, waiting at a traffic light. A sign that says, I-43 Nort to Milwaukee is to the left. The light turns green. The Impala doesn't move.
"Green." Ana says softly as her eyes are barely open.
"What?" Dean asks as he was in a daze.
"Light's green." Sam says to Dean, as Dean turns right. "Uh, the interstate's the other way."
"I know." Dean says as Ana rests her head on the window of the Impala. She then felt herself close her eyes.
Sam, Dean and now a sleeping Ana are in the car. "But Dean, this job. I think it's over." Sam says.
"I'm not so sure." Dean says.
"If Bill murdered Peter Sweeney and Peter's spirit got it's revenge, case closed. The spirit should be at rest." Sam says.
"Alright, so what if we take off and this thing isn't done? You know, what if we've missed something? What if more people get hurt?" Dean asks as Sam looks at his brother.
"But why would you think that?" Sam asks.
"Because Lucas was really scared." Dean says.
"That's what this is about?" Sam asks his brother.
"I just don't want to leave this town until I know the kid is okay." Dean says.
"Who are you? And what have you done with my brother?" Sam says as Dean glances at Sam.
"Shut up." Dean mutters under his breath, as he looks through the rear window and sees that Ana had fell asleep.
Go figure. Then again, she is sick, so he expected her to take a siesta sometime soon. Because her body needs the rest to fight off the cold that she has.
───※ ·❆· ※───
Sam and Dean had arrived at the Barr house. "Are you sure about this? It's pretty late, man." Sam says.
Dean rings the doorbell, and at that moment. Lucas opens the door, looking desperate and afraid. "Lucas? Lucas!"
Lucas takes off, as Dean and Sam follow him.
Water is pouring out from under the bathroom door, and down the stairs. Lucas starts pounding on the bathroom door again. Dean pushes him over to Sam and kicks the door. Lucas grabs Dean, so Sam runs into the bathroom and sticks his arms in the tub, trying to pull Andrea out. She is pulled back under, but Sam keeps pulling until Andrea is all the way out. She then starts coughing up water.
───※ ·❆· ※───
Dawn is now breaking. Sam and Andrea sit in the living room. Andrea is dry and wearing clean clothes.
"Can you tell me?" Sam asks.
"No." Andrea says as Dean is looking through notebooks and bookshelves. "It doesn't make any sense." She says as she then starts crying. "I'm going crazy." She says as she puts her face in her hands.
"No, you're not. Tell me what happened. Everything." Sam says.
"I heard...I thought I heard...there was this voice." Andrea says.
"What did it say?" Sam asks.
"It said...it said, 'come play with me'." Andrea says as she sobs. "What's happening?"
Dean pulls out a scrapbook that says, 'Jake, 12-years-old', and opens it flipping the pages. He closes it again and goes to Sam and Andrea. He puts the book down in front of Andrea, and to a picture of Explorer Trop 37.
"Do you recognize the kids in these pictures?" Dean asked.
"What? Um, um, no. I mean, except th"Cat's my dad right there. He must have been about twelve in these pictures." Andrea says as she moves her finger over to another picture of Jake, as a child; he is standing next to Peter. Dean looks at Sam.
"Chris Barr's drowning. The connection wasn't to Bill Carlton. It must have been to the sheriff." Dean says.
"Bill and the sheriff, they were both involved with Peter." Sam says.
"What about Chris? My dad--what are you talking about?" Andrea says as Dean looks sideways.
"Lucas?" Dean asks as Lucas is staring out the window. "Lucas, what is it?" Dean asks as Lucas opens the door and walks outside as everyone follows.
"Lucas, honey?" Andrea asks as Lucas stops and looks at the ground, then at Dean.
"You and Lucas get back to the house and stay there, okay?" Dean says as Andrea pulls Lucas back to the house. Dean and Sam presumably fetch shovels from the Impala before they start digging. Sam shovel clanks against something. They dig with their hands and pull out a red bicycle.
"Peter's bike." Sam says.
"Who are you?" Sheriff Devins asked, as Sam and Dean turn around; Sheriff Devins is there pointing a gun at the brothers.
"Put the gun down, Jake." Sam says as Sam and Dean drop the shovels.
"How did you know that was there?" Sheriff Devins asked.
"What happened? You and Bill killed Peter, drowned him in the lake and then buried the bike? You can't bury the truth, Jake. Nothing stays buried." Dean says as Andrea sees Jake, with the gun aimed at the brothers. She then talks to Lucas.
"Go to your room, sweetie. Now. Lock the door and wait for me. Don't come out." Andrea says as Lucas runs off, as Andrea then goes outside.
"I don't know what the hell you're talking about." Sheriff Devins asked.
"You and Bill killed Peter Sweeney thirty-five years ago. That's what the hell I'm talking about." Dean says as Andrea runs up.
"Dad!" Andrea yells.
"And now you got one seriously pissed-off spirit." Dean says.
"It's going to take Andrea, Lucas, everyone you love. It's going to drown them. And it's going drag their bodies God knows where, so you can feel the same pain, Peter's mom felt. And then, after that, it's going to take you, and it's not going to stop until it does." Sam says.
"Yeah, and how do you know that?" Sheriff Devins asked.
"Because that's exactly what it did to Bill Carlton." A voice says as it was Ana with her own gun raised at Jake.
"Listen, to yourselves, all of you. You're insane." Sheriff Devins says.
"I don't really give a rats ass what you think of us. But if we're going to bring down this spirit, we need to find the remains, salt them, and burn them into dust. Now tell me you buried Peter somewhere. Tell me you didn't just leave him to go in the lake." Ana says as she walked slowly towards the sheriff.
Lucas didn't go to his room; he's outside watching the whole scene go down with the adults. "Come play with me." Peter's voice says, as Lucas follows the voice.
"Dad, is any of this true?" Andrea asks.
"No. Don't listen to them. They're liars and they're dangerous." Jake says.
"Something tried to drown me. Chris died on that lake. Dad, look at me." Andrea says as Jake looks at her. "Tell me you--you didn't kill anyone." Andrea says as Jake looks away. "Oh my God."
"Billy and I were at the lake. Peter was the smallest one. We always bullied him, but this time, it got rough. We were holding his head under the water. We didn't mean to. But we held him under too long and he drowned. We let the body, go and it sank." Jake says, as Ana rolls her eyes. "Oh, Andrea, we were kids. We were so scared. It was a mistake. But, Andrea, to say that I have anything to do with these drownings, with Chris, because of some ghost? It's not rational."
"Alright, listen to me, all of you. We need to get you away from this lake, as far as we can, right now." Dean says, as Andrea turns her head and spots Lucas going down to the lake. She gasps, which caught Ana's attention.
"Lucas!" Jake yells, as the five of them run up to the dock. Lucas is leaning over the side, reaching for a toy soldier in the lake.
"Come play with me." Peter's voice says.
"Lucas!" Dean yells.
"Lucas! Baby, stay where you are!"
A hand comes up and pulls Lucas into the water. The adults have reached the edge of the lake. Jake stops; Peter's head is now visible. Jake recognizes him. Dean and Sam keep running to the end of the dock and dive in.
"Oh my God!" Andrea yells as she takes off her jacket to jump in.
"Andrea, stay there!" Sam yells. "Stay by Ana!"
"No! Lucas!" Andrea yells back to Sam.
"We'll get him! Just stay on the dock by Ana!" Sam yells as he dives under again. Dean comes up. A minute later, so does Sam.
"Sam?" Dean asks as Sam shakes his head.
"Lucas, where are you?" Andrea asks, as Jake takes off his jacket as Sam and Dean dive back down. Jake wades in as Andrea looks over.
"Peter, if you can hear me...please. Peter, I'm sorry. I'm so--I'm so sorry." Jake says.
"Daddy, no!" Andrea says.
"Peter. Lucas, he's, he's just a little boy. Please, it's not his fault, it's mine. Please take me."
Dean and Sam come up for air. "Jake, no!" Dean says as Peter surfaces.
"Just, let it be over!" Jake yells as he is then dragged down.
"Daddy! Daddy! No!" Andrea yells as Dean and Sam dive down again.
"No!" Andrea yells.
Sam comes up, shaking his head. Andrea mouths, 'no!'. Dean comes up, holding Lucas, who isn't moving.

Dean, Ana and Sam, walk out of the motel with their bags in their hands. More like with Dean and Sam's bags because Dean didn't let Ana lift a single finger Which she wasn't entirely complaining. The most that Dean had let her carry was her blanket and her Dr. Pepper, but that is about it. Dean opens the car door, and Sam tosses a duffel bag in. Ana wraps herself around in her fuzzy blanket.
"Look, we're not going to save everybody." Sam says.
"I know." Dean says.
"Sam, Dean, Ana." A voice says as it was Andrea, as she is walking up with Lucas beside her.
"Hey." Dean says as Ana waves a little.
"We're glad we caught you. We just, um, we made you lunch for the road." Andrea says as Lucas is carrying a tray of sandwiches. "Lucas, insisted on making the sandwiches himself."
"Can I give it to them now?" Lucas asks.
"Of course." Andrea says as she smiles as she kisses Lucas' head.
"Come on, Lucas let's load this into the car." Dean says.
"How are you holding up?" Sam asks as Ana follows Dean and Lucas.
Dean puts the sandwiches in the car. "Alright, if you're going to be talking now. This is a very important phase, so I want you to repeat it one more time."
"Zepplin rules!" Lucas repeats.
"That's right. Up high." Dean says as Ana is leaning against the Impala, she has a soft smile on her face at seeing the two interacting. Dean holds his hand up for a high-five. Lucas obliges as he has a grin on his face. "You take care of your mom, okay?"
"Alright." Lucas says, as Andrea comes up.
"Sam, move your ass. We're going to run out of daylight before we hit the road." Dean says as he wraps his arm around Ana keeping her close for a second. Dean brings Ana in for a soft kiss, as he moves a strain of her hair behind her ear.
"Dean, will you hurry up." Sam says as Dean and Ana purposely ignored the younger brother, as he kisses Ana again.
"I love you baby." Dean says, as he has his arms on Ana's hips.
"Love you too." Ana says as Sam clears his throat.
"Okay, PDA. We get it you two are dating. Please move on." Sam says to his brother, as Dean purposely kissed Ana again, just to get that reaction out of Sam. Which makes Ana have a smile on her face.
"Sammy, hush." Dean says to his brother which slowly makes Ana's smile slowly grow at the banter of Sam and Dean, which was interesting if Ana says so herself.
"Yeah, Sam, the adults are having a moment." Ana pipes up, as when Ana had her head turned towards Sam, Dean took it as an opportunity of kissing her cheek.
After a couple more moments Ana and Dean get into the Impala after their kissing moment. Dean then starts the engine to the impala. Sam, Dean and Ana wave goodbye to Lucas and Andrea.
