Chapter Six: Family Day

The next morning a soft hit on his leg woke him up. He slightly jolted as his eyes opened, to see Jay at the foot of his bed. "Come on, get up. It's family day, they want us there." Haden nodded as he rolled off of his mattress.

"You good?" Jay asked him. Haden once again nodded. Jay knew he was lying, but didn't press it further. The two left and met up with the rest of the VK's, after Haden was dressed. He and Evie locked eyes, but he tore his away quickly as he couldn't deal with this. They left soon after, and headed for the courtyard.

The five looked out over the balcony, once Ben and the others finished their number. They walked down to the food tables, as Mal started to look at Ben with his parents. Carlos and Jay began digging in to the chocolate fountain and strawberries that were on offer, as Haden rolled his eyes at their antics.

Mal was soon called over by Ben. "I wanna introduce you to my parents." Ben told her as they faced them. "Mom, Dad, this is Mal, from the Island. My girlfriend."

A brief silence followed until Belle broke it. "Hi." It sounded forced.

"Hi." Mal said back.

"I was thinking she could join us for lunch." Ben told his parents.

"Uh, sure. Any friend of Ben's." Again their statements sounded forced.

"I actually came with my friends, and my brother." Mal told them, pointing back to the group. Haden looked bored, as Evie put up a fake smile and waved. Carlos and Jay had chocolate all over them as they waved happily.

"Well you should invite them. Because the more the merrier." Belle said.

"Great, I'll go get them." Mal said.

"How about a game of croquet before lunch?" Beast offered. Mal and Ben agreed and went to grab the VK's.

Dude and Carlos had began running around the field, as Mal and Haden stood together. "What did you do?" She asked.

"What?" Haden replied.

"With Evie. What happened?" Mal finished.

"Look. I-"

"Sorry to interrupt." They turned their attention to an older woman beside them. "You just look so familiar, have we met?" She asked Mal.

"No I don't think so. We're new, kinda like transfer students." The woman nodded in understanding. Audrey ran up to the woman and held her hand. "Oh, Audrey. Give Grammy a kiss."

Mal and Haden looked worriedly at the interaction. "Grammy?" Mal questioned.

"Sleeping Beauty's mother." Audrey revealed what they feared to be true.

"Grammy I don't think you wanna be talking to this people. Unless you fancy taking another hundred year nap." Audrey told her grandmother. Mal faced Queen Leah as she made a realisation. "You?!"

Her sudden exclamation caught everyone's attention. "How are you here? And how have you stayed so young?" She questioned Mal.

Ben walked over to try diffuse the situation. "Queen Leah, it's ok. Maleficent is still on the island. This is her daughter and son, Mal and Haden. Don't you remember my proclamation to give the new generation a chance?" He asked the woman.

"A chance to what, Ben? Destroy us!" She turned back to Fairy Godmother. "Come on, you remember the poisoned apples. And the spells!" Beast and Belle looked down at this. "My daughter, was raised by fairies, because of your mother's curse. So her first words, her first steps, I missed it all!" She turned away into Fairy Godmothers embrace.

"I am so so-" Chad pushed Mal's arm away, angering Haden.

"Don't. Stay away from her." He warned her.

"Don't do this Chad." Ben told him.

Chad questioned what he was talking about. "They were raised by their parents Ben. What do you think villains teach their kids. Kindness? Fair play? No way, ok? You stole another girls boyfriend." He said to Mal. "You have about the shortest fuse I've ever seen." He told Haden, making him clench his fist.

"You enjoy hurting people." Jay looked down at this. He finally turned to Evie. "And you. You're nothing but a gold digger and a cheater." Haden started to walk towards him, but Evie beat him to it.

"Mirror, mirror, in my hand. Who's the biggest jerk in the land?" She turned the mirror to Chad, showing himself in its frame.

He slapped her hand away, and no one could react before a fist came flying into Chad's face. He fell to the floor as Haden looked down at him. He ignored Mal's pleas to leave him alone, as Chad got back up.

The boy landed one hit on Haden, which he retaliated to. The fight would have continued had it not been for Evie using her spray to knock him out. He fell into Doug's arms unconscious, as Evie lead Mal away.

"Haden!" Evie called to him as he turned away from the scene, following his friends, and leaving Ben on his own.

Haden was now standing alone in his room. He hadn't spoken to anyone since the fight as he just left immediately. He noticed some blood on his shirt and started to take it off, the rustling of the fabric making him not hear the door.

He threw his top in a laundry basket beside his bed and picked up another. He finally looked to the door and saw Evie standing there. "A little privacy? Please." He asked her as he threw the shirt over his head. When it was on he looked up and saw Evie, only this time she was a lot closer.

"You need something?" He asked again.

She saw a box of tissues beside him and grabbed one out. "Here, let me help." She said to him.

"I don't need help." She gave him a look that could kill, and he sat down on the bed.

She kneeled next to him and started to clean up his lip. "Why'd you do that?" She asked him.

"Do what?"

She gave him a deadpan look. "Punch him."

Haden looked down. He couldn't deny that he still cared about the girl in front of him, and a lot. "I'm never gonna let anyone talk about you like that." Evie stopped wiping his lip and just looked at him, but he couldn't return it. "I'm sorry, about earlier. I didn't mean what I said. I just got really jealous, and stupid." Her face softened at his words. "I care about you more than you'll ever know." Evie decided to take a chance. She too was sick of all the close calls. She gently grabbed the sides of his head and lifted his face to look at hers.

She slowly leaned in and within seconds, she had kissed him. Haden's eyes widened in shock, and he stayed in that tense state. Evie felt this, and pulled back. "I'm- I'm sorry." She thought she'd ruined her and her longtime crush's relationship. "I'll just go."

She started to get off the bed but Haden grabbed her arm. He pulled her back to him and smashed his lips against hers. It was now her turn to be shocked, but she soon melted into the kiss. Their lips moved in sync until the door opened yet again.

"Hey, Haden I nee-" The two jumped apart at the sudden intrusion. Mal looked at them, looking incredibly awkward and embarrassed. "Oh my god, finally. The tension between you two has been suffocating for years." The two got even more flustered.

"So what is this?" Mal asked. Neither Haden of Evie could answer. "Have you not talked about it yet?" Again no answer. "Am I making you uncomfortable?" She continued.

"Yes." Haden answered finally.

"Aww. Is my big tough brother embarrassed?" Mal teased her flustered sibling.

"What do you want Mal?" He asked her.

"Just wanted to tell you that Ben's asked Chad not to press charges. So you should be ok." She reassured him. He nodded in response and looked back down.

"Also, E. Apparently Belle wanted to speak to you about getting my dress ready?" Mal told her.

"Oh yeah, I'll head there now." Mal nodded and smiled once again at her best friend and brother, before leaving the room.

"Uhm, I guess I'll go." Evie said.

Haden stood up and walked her to the door. "I, uh, I'll see you later."

Evie nodded as their eyes moved to each others lips. They leaned in and kissed once again.

They pulled apart and gazed into each others eyes. "That's never getting old." Haden said, making the girl in front of him laugh. She kissed his cheek and bid him goodbye, as Haden smiled to himself behind the closed door.
