Three
He rubbed his eyes tiredly, before facing the class of soon-to-become heroes of Class 1-A.
"For today's hero basic training, it's turned into a class with three instructors, All Might and me, and one person." His voice was monotone and stern, but his eyes were filled with aching exhaustion and boredom. After all, he did this every year with every first-year class he had the displeasure of teaching.
The other students seemed a little surprise from 'turned into,' some wondering if it was a special occasion for this class.
Sero, the boy with a tape quirk, was the first to make an outburst. "Excuse me! What'll we be doing?"
He held out a card for the entire class to read, printed in elegant neon blue was all capitals "Rescue."
"Disasters, shipwrecks, and everything in between. It's rescue training."
As expected, the students were excited, as they would finally be able to train as heroes instead of just academic students. Gasps of awe and joy erupted through the crowd of youngsters, with determined, eager grins plastered on their faces.
He became frustrated as the teenagers talked among themselves, interrupting what he had wished to say. "Hey, I'm not done yet," he instructed, instantly gaining the focus of the students.
Once he saw that their eyes were on him, he continued. "You can decide if you want to wear your costume or not this time."
He gestured to the left of him as he pressed a button on a device, and the shelves that contained the children's suits slid out of the walls.
"Because there are probably costumes that limit your abilities, too. The training will take place off-campus, so we're taking a bus. That is all. Start getting ready."
With that, he left the classroom, leaving the students to pack whatever belongings they chose to bring as his mind was filled with thoughts needing sleep and taking a nap.
Not too long later, he and his class was on a bus driving towards their training location, known as USJ, standing for Unforeseen Simulation Joint. The kids were rowdy on the bus, but he figured they would be needing it. After all, this was an intense training exercise, and even though they were first experiencing it, there was always a numerous amount of information crammed into their small, meager brains in a period of a few hours.
Standing on the bus and holding onto a beam, he watched for when they were to arrive at their destination. Once they were there, he said "We're here. Stop messing around."
Most of the students replied with "Yes sir," as they passed by a line of trees and stopped outside of an enormous, game-like structure.
When he entered, he and the students were greeted with the pro-rescue hero, Thirteen. She was a hero that wore a full-body suit that resembled an astronaut, except it was bulky and large, along with the helmet not having transparent glass, as it was black from the outside. Two white angular shapes that resembled eyes were the only thing that could be seen through the helmet, he assumed that was where her eyes could see through. Due to the mask, most wasn't sure of the gender of the hero from her voice, but he knew.
"Everyone, I have been waiting for you," she welcomed the students.
The students were again, in awe at meeting another pro-hero that would be their instructor. It was no surprise that Midoriya knew everything about the hero as he rambled on about her.
"Let's go inside without delay," she responded, motioning towards the entrance of the building.
"Look forward to working with you," the students yelled, bowing towards the hero to show their gratefulness.
Once they headed inside, it was no shocking manner that they were once again aghast from the size and the features the building held. Each natural disaster had a large, suitable, and fitting terrain for any kind of hero rescue, including mountain terrain, lake terrain, and city terrain.
"A shipwreck, a landslide, a fire, a windstorm, et cetera- it is a training ground that I made with different types of accidents and disasters," she remarked, spreading her arms out and wide to emphasize the building's great interior. "It's called the "Unforeseen Stimulation Joint," or "USJ" for short!"
He walked up to her casually after her speech, glaring behind him as he asked about the whereabouts of All Might.
"Thirteen, where's All Might," he huffed slightly irritated at his absence in the lesson, however his unwavering voice of his lack of emotions didn't hint at it. "He was supposed to meet us here."
She walked a few steps towards him, a serious and almost concerning crumb in her voice. "About that... It looks like he did too much hero work on his way to work and ran out of time, so he's resting in the lounge."
"That's the height of irrationality," he remarked. He was glad that he had done extra measures if something like this happened though. "It can't be helped. Shall we begin?" he stated, walking to the side so the students would focus on the other hero.
"Let's see... Before we begin, let me say one thing... er... or two, or three..." she stuttered, hesitating on what she should say. "-Or four... five... six... seven..." she continued, which caused the class to slightly be disappointed.
"Everyone, I am sure you are aware of my Quirk, Black Hole. I can suck up anything and turn it into dust."
"You've been able to use that Quirk to save people from all kinds of disasters, right?" Midoriya asked.
"Yes, but it is a power that can kill easily."
This took the class into shock as they seemed to have realized that being a hero had their responsibilities.
"Some of you also have Quirks like that, right? In a superhuman society, personal Quirks have been certified and stringently regulated, so that doesn't seem to be a problem at first glance. However, please do not forget that there are many Quirks that can easily kill with one wrong step.
"With Aizawa's physical fitness test, you found out the possibility of your own hidden powers, and with All Might's person-to-person combat training, I think you experienced the danger of using those powers against others. This class is a fresh start. You shall learn how to use your Quirks to save people's lives. You do not have powers so you can harm others. I hope you leave here with the understanding that you have powers in order to help others."
Thirteen'a words seemed to have eased into the whole class' hearts, as they were inspired by the words of what a hero is like from someone that was an expert in that profession.
Thirteen bowed with the words of "That is all. Thank you for listening."
The class cheered her on about her talk, as it was stirring and a wonderful choice of words that have mentally impacted the heroes.
Deciding to break apart the loud commotion, he started to speak up, using his left hand to point his index finger in the right direction while his other hand was stuffed in his black baggy pants
"All right then, first-"
Abruptly, electricity started sparking from the lights, causing them to power down and encasing the building in darkness. The electric-powered machinery started powering down as well, and down below, a purple hole like shape formed, much like a back hole, appearing below them in the middle of the building. It swirled, and as it did, it increased steadily. He immediately saw this, knowing this was not part of their agenda and something unexpected was to happen. Shock coursed through his body as a dreadful thought passed by him.
'No. Why now?! Damn it to hell!'
From what looked to be a portal, a fiery purple flame was emitted from the hole, a shape began to produce, with the only suggestion that it was another person being its yellow eyes. Then, a hand emerged out of the pitch dark purple mass, a human hand that was very well alive ripped open a hole inside of the swirling matter. It pressed against the edge of the hole, making it bigger to reveal a head, covered by another pale hand that covered the majority of the head's face. Blue hair settled on the fingers, and a red eye of insanity peeked through.
"Gather together and don't move!" He shouted urgently, finding this situation horrifying to have happened here and now. "Thirteen, protect the students!"
He prepared himself, ready to attack. He knew the students were confused and slightly shocked, some even scared as they had a dash of intelligence to tell them that this was not planned.
The person that's face was covered with a hand had fully emerged from the mass, following many other people, dressed in vile and frightening ways. He concluded they were under a villain attack, and his eyes blazed in fury for them to strike at this time.
'There was a rat after all... or someone must have broken in when their barrier was destroyed,' he thought.
Though, it didn't matter, there was a problem before him that he had to deal with first.
"What's that? Is this like an entrance exam where the lesson's already started," the student with the hardening quirk, if his memory serves him correctly, Kirishima.
"Don't move," he yelled, knowing this would make the students realize, before putting on his goggles, and seeing that more and more came from the portal, over three dozen or so swarmed the middle ground. "Those are villains."
Everybody was taken back at the statement, fear had grasped onto them quickly as some immediately pondered on what they should do panically.
What caught the teacher's eyes was a creature that emerged from the portal. It was bigger, bigger than All Might himself, and was bare with navy blue skin, with more bulging muscles than the Number One hero as well (perhaps it was because it didn't wear any clothing for its upper half of its body, he didn't give a single thought about that once more). Red streaks were scattered around him that seemed to be scars. He wore shorts as well, the color of khaki to his single piece of apparels. The most disturbing thing was that this didn't look like a man, no, he had a head of a bird who had grown monstrous teeth that seemed to be capable of snapping a human head. The head was caved-in in a way where it showed a big portion of its brain, which had eyes on them. Even if it did have a brain, it seemed like a mindless murdering beast that would not mind whose and how much blood he got on his claws.
His eyes focused back to the purple mass, spotting its eyes as he continued to see if the mass would take into human form.
"The trespassing the other day was the work of these scumbags after all, huh?" he growled angrily towards the other pro hero.
The two people that appeared first, the portal creator and the hand-man, were conversing, though being about a mile or so away, it was evident he couldn't hear them. As they were, the purple mass started pulling itself to make a single blob-like creature.
Once the villains had taken their stances, covering the floor of the middle ground, his Capturing Weapon as he calls, springs up along with his hair, flowing around horizontally without the pressure of gravity playing its part on his 'scarf' and hair.
The villains steadily march towards them, though they weren't nearly close enough to cause any damage, while the the most concerning of the villains stayed behind, that being of course, their ringleader (assuming he was the ringleader), the warp gate, and the monster. That had given him a slight relief that the most lethal ones had no intention of hurting the students at the moment.
"What? Villains? No way... There's no way they could get into a hero school," Kirishima responded again, quite in denial, which in the face of fear, was not helpful. He would have to teach him that at a later time.
"Teacher, what about the trespasser sensors?" Yaoyorozu asked.
"We have them, of course, but..." Thirteen answered distressingly.
Todoroki stepped in with an answer. "Did they only appear here, around the whole school? Either way, if the sensors are not responding, that means someone with a Quirk that can do that. An isolated area separated from the main campus during a time when a class is supposed to be here. They might be fools, but they're not dumb. The surprise attack was carefully planned with some sort of goal in mind."
This unsettled the class even more. The teacher decided to step up towards the villains, heading for the stairs. "Thirteen, start the evacuation. Try calling the school. These villains even had something to counteract the sensors. It's possible someone with radio-wave type powers is interfering. Kaminari. You try contacting the school with your Quirk, too."
The student replied with a brief "Yes sir," before attempting to, reaching for his headphone-like antenna.
"What about you, sir? Will you fight by yourself? With that many, even if you can erase their Quirks... Eraser Head's fighting style is capturing after erasing the enemy's Quirk. A frontal battle is..."
The boy was observant and full of knowledge on heroes. Though, he did forget one thing about heroes.
"You can't be a hero with just one trick. I'm leaving it to you, Thirteen." With a quick nod from the hero, who jumps off the stair platform at incredible speeds, clutching his Capturing Weapon tightly and ready to strike.
"Shooting Squad, let's go," one of the crooks said. The group he was referencing towards was the villains that were positioned closest to him. It was clear that their ranged weapons were their quirks.
"Didn't our intel say it would just be Thirteen and All Might? Who's that?!" the woman in front yelled.
"I don't know! But if he thinks he can come at us from the front by himself...-"
"-then's he a huge idiot!" they all said together as the pro hero rushed towards them. Just as they were about to activate their quirks, his eyes swiftly erased them. They realize soon that their Quirks aren't functioning at all, and his weapon binds around them, lifting them to the air, and thrusting them back down to the ground harshly, only to be met with each other's head as their bodies clash against each other. Once they collide, their bodies fall in different directions.
The large mass of criminals lets out outbreaks of shock as one of them yelled his identity.
"Erase? Are you gonna erase the Quirks of heteromorphic-type villains like us, too?" one crook says, dashing towards the hero with all four of his arms ready to lunge. Each time the villains lunged at him with his fists, the male dodged all of them, replying to his question in a snappy way. "No, I can't," he added before landing a square hit on the villain's face, and shooting one end of his weapon towards him as he flew.
"But the skills of guys like you..." the hero commented on him as the string-like material wrapped around the villain's leg. "... are statistically more likely to manifest in close combat..." he observed, ducking under another villain's fist as they tried striking from behind. He counterattacked by quickly kneeing that villain in the jaw, causing him to fly and tumble on other two standby villains. With his capturing device, he released the heteromorphic villain, causing him to fall on the pile of the other 3 villains. "... so I've taken measures against that," he finished.
He waited as the other villains that surrounded him stood still, anticipating his next attack, before he went for the villains about to activite their quirks, efficiently being able to cancel them and knock them down with a few maneuvers.
The eraser hero looked back at the mass of students for assurance of their safety, but saw the warp gate blocking their exit as he cursed at himself silently. 'Shoot! I just blinked and the guy who looks like the most trouble got away...' But he couldn't afford to watch anymore as more villains surrounded him.
'I can't worry about them now. The most I could do is hope that Thirteen could take care and protect them while I deal with these crooks.'
As he took down more of the criminals, his eyes catched a glimpse of yellow, before recieving a blow to the back. He groaned in pain, turning back around and lashing out his weapon at the person, except he didn't see the same person. The only villains that were around him weren't close enough to touch him yet.
A pair of quiet, but rushing footsteps approached from behind him as he turned around, stealing another glance of the same yellow, co-siding with jet black, sending his weapon to that direction, however, the figure managed to escape the blow, seemingly flying above him. Quickly turning back, he raised his arm to the side of his face to defend himself when he anticipated a kick there, gripping the scarf which wrapped around the figure's leg, throwing it to the side, prioritizing taking down the other crooks. One by one, he is able to counterattack and overpower them, making it so he brings the numbers lower and lower. But it still wasn't enough, and soon, he's left breathless with still a dozen or so surrounding him. His body was beginning to numb with exhaustion, but he urged on, he had to, as a teacher and hero, he swore he would protect his students.
Huffing out of his mouth, another villain with sprouted claws from his knuckles charged forward, lunging at him with a predictable and see-through move, while another from behind also was rushing forward. Timing it accurately, he jumped up, making the two of them collide with each other, and whipping his weapon around the two, swinging it in a horizontal circular motion, using it to sweep the rest of the masses away, finally lowering the numbers to just a few.
His shoulders bulged and raised up and down as he breathed harsly through his nose, taking a fighting stance, and ignoring his body's yearning in giving up and falling apart. Footsteps? From behind? Quickly...
It wasn't enough though. This time, he wasn't able to avoid the attack, tumbling onto his knees as hot, searing pain ripped through his spine. Gritting his teeth, he turned over, shooting his weapon at the criminal approaching, which was a blare of the same black-and-yellow mix. It was unbelievably fast, slipping between the weapons and escaping without being captured, and he reacted too slow, recieving a blow to the jaw from the knee, knocking him back on the ground. Still, he swung his weapon at the figure again, but with a movement, that was easily evaded, but it gave him enough time to stand again. 'Shit... I need to keep my distance, I don't know her quirk. If she hasn't revealed it yet, it must be something that requires close-contact. I can't allow her to do that.'
"Eraserhead, huh? Pro Hero, with a Quirk of being able to cancel any Quirk, eh? It's useful... but perfectly useless if you can't beat someone in hand-to-hand combat... isn't that right?" a voice from behind him cackled, knowing it was of the blue-haired hand man.
Being too pressured from the foe he was fighting, he took no notice of the villain's comment, stepping to the right to elude an attack, but something in his body snapped, and he was unable to move, paralzyed from the sudden aching pain brought to his legs. 'Fuck, they must have given up on me.' Raising both of his arms in front of his face, he beared a strike to his stomach, before using this as an opportunity to strike while the figure was close. Snapping his legs forward and tripping the figure, he entangled the enemy in his hold using his weapon, wrapping around the arms and limbs of the criminal, finally being able to look at the one he had captured.
It was a female, that was clear, with the shape of her body, but her face was hidden with an entirely black mask that covered her entire face customized utterly for the shape of her head to fit comfortably. The dimples in the face meant for the eye sockets were yellow, and there were two openings at the bottom of the molding for her nose to breathe. A hood that hid her neck and hair to top it off told him that her identity was supposed to be secured, or it was beneficial for the villains that her identity was kept secret.
Still, something told him that this battle was far from over, with this overwhelming dread and powerfulness that emitted from this female.
Was he just being paranoid at the verge of victory or was his instincts right at first?
If it was the latter, he would be screwed.
