Chapter Six: Honeymoon
After our tango, I took a break from dancing to catch my breath and regain my energy. The champagne went down smoothly, its effects beginning to settle in, though not overwhelming me yet. As I stood up, I felt a slight wavering in my balance, but I soon found it.
I mingled with the guests and shared a delightful dance with Bella before her husband swept her away for a slow dance. They looked so happy, savouring the special moment together. I spotted my Grams showing off some dance moves, clearly enjoying herself. I couldn't help but smile as she noticed me and started dancing her way over in a not-so-subtle manner, making me burst into laughter.
She grabbed my hands and pulled me in, and we started dancing together, free and wild, fully immersed in the moment. Jasper, Alice, and Rosalie soon joined in, and we all danced together. Eventually, my Grams had enough and headed to the nearest chair to catch her breath.
Being the good granddaughter I was, I followed her and brought a chair over to sit next to her. "Are you all right?" I asked, settling into my seat, my eyes filled with concern.
"I'm fine," she replied, reaching out and grasping my hands in hers. "All that dancing," she chuckled through the words.
Silence engulfed us, but I couldn't keep quiet for long. "Emmett told me he loved me," I said softly, my eyes locking onto my Grams'. "And I said it back," I went on, my gaze drifting momentarily.
"Oh, Charlotte," a smile spread across her face, her expression brimming with joy. "I'm so happy for you," she said, squeezing my hands in hers, and I could feel the sincerity in her words. She seemed on the verge of saying something, but held back, making me frown for a moment. It was clear there was something she wanted to tell me. So, I stayed silent, not wanting to press the issue while we were enjoying ourselves.
After enjoying some time with my Grams and chatting about how lovely the night had been, Emmett found his way to the table and asked me to dance with him again, this time a slow dance.
I held onto him, resting my head gently against the fabric of his tuxedo as we swayed to the music. With my eyes closed, I felt utterly safe within his embrace. Safe with him.
"Tonight has been perfect," I murmured against his chest, my voice clear enough for him to hear. "You've been..." I trailed off, unable to find just one perfect word to describe him. "I'm really glad I met you Emmett," I said softly, lifting my head from his chest and meeting his expectant gaze.
"I'm the lucky one," he murmured in response, causing my heart to flutter at his words. I felt myself blushing under his gaze. "Love it when you blush," he added with a grin, making me blush even more intensely.
I leaned in closer, feeling the cold of his lips brushed against mine, savouring the moment, and then deepening the kiss with passion. Was this what love felt like? I wondered silently, my heart racing with uncertainty and anticipation. I'd never been in a relationship before, but if this was it, I hoped it would always feel this incredible.
Our lips parted, and our eyes locked in a lingering gaze. He offered me that familiar, boyish smile that never failed to make my heart flutter. I nestled back against his chest, and we continued to sway gently to the music, lost in each other's presence. I could stay in his arms all night.
I lost track of how long we held each other, but eventually, it was time to bid farewell to Bella and Edward. They had gone to change out of their wedding clothes while all the guests gathered at the front of the house, preparing to see them off.
My hand was entwined with Emmett's as we stood together, waiting for the married couple to emerge. To my left stood my Grams, with Rosalie beside her. In my other hand, I held a handful of plain rice, ready to toss it into the air as soon as the newlyweds descended the steps. It didn't take long before Bella and Edward appeared, stepping down gracefully. As they passed by me, I released the rice, watching it scatter in the air amidst cheers and applause, joining in with my own enthusiastic shouts.
I watched teary-eyed because I was filled with happiness for her and Edward. I turned my attention once Bella began to talk to her mother. My eyes fell instantly on Emmett who was looking down at me.
"Where's he taking her?" I was informed that Edward planned a proper honeymoon for Bella, which sounded like a fantastic idea to me. However, Edward kept his plans secretive, not revealing where he intended to take her – to me at least.
"I can't tell you that," Emmett replied in a deep, husky tone. "I might want to take you one day," he added with a playful smirk, leaving me to chuckle at his response, knowing I wouldn't get any more details out of him.
Guests began to rearrange themselves as we made our way down to the front, the gravel clicking under my heels. I noticed Bella was now talking to her father. Soon enough she was done speaking to her Dad, and made her way down towards me, as the car was nearby.
"Thank you for everything, Charlotte," Bella exclaimed, her words warming my heart and bringing a wide smile to my face.
"Have a wonderful honeymoon, and I'll be right here when you return," I replied with a smile, embracing her tightly as she wrapped her arms around me. We held each other close, cherishing the moment. After a satisfying hug, we parted with knowing smiles exchanged between us. Bella walked back up to the car and got in.
As the car started down the driveway, cheers and waves erupted from the crowd for the happy couple. When they drew near, I joined in, waving and cheering them goodbye with heartfelt wishes. I watched as the car drove further away, but suddenly felt large hands caress up my arms, gently rubbing as if to soothe me.
"Want to stay over?" Emmett whispered in my ear, sending a shiver down my spine with those words alone.
Without a word, I spun around, closing the distance between us in a heartbeat. I leaned up and captured his lips with mine, the kiss hungry and passionate, a mix of longing and urgency. Emmett responded eagerly, his arms wrapping around me as we melted into each other.
When we finally parted, I gazed into his eyes, a smirk playing on my lips. "Thought you'd never ask," I teased, the warmth of his laughter echoed in my ears, adding to the moment.
