So this is where the actual start of the story begins. It's how Ruri became a member of the Demon Slayer Corps and why she turned into a demon. This'll probably be five or six chapters long.

In the beginning, Ruri and Sanemi both joined the Demon Slayer Corps at the same time. They both joined the same selection and fought inside the wisteria filled mountain where they managed to survive and kill demons.

Sanemi, young and still brash, were especially ruthless as he slashed at all the demons he encountered, leaving him a gory mess when he came out.

On the other hand, Ruri was more flawless when she killed demons, immediately cutting their heads off without a word and aiming only at the head itself.

Both of their fighting styles were completely different especially their breaths but as it turns out, Ruri and Sanemi always did make a great team even if they always end up bantering with each other.

"I had it! You didn't have to butt in!"

"You were taking your time! I was hungry!"

"You damn glutton.. And you actually have the nerve to complain at how fat and heavy you're getting?!"

Ruri huffed at him. "I'm a growing girl! I need my sustenance! And Nemi-chan, you need a bath. You smell like demon piss or whatever! Don't touch me!"

"Why you..!" Ruri shrieked when he went to hug her, the blood on his clothes and body sticking to her as he did so and she flailed her arms to get away.

"Sanemi, you..! Ewww! Gross! Nemi-chan, why?!!!"

"That's what you get for being a total bitch!"

Ruri could only shriek and scream at him.

Sanemi always did know how to annoy her and vice versa. Growing up together had its own perks but there were also downsides.

For once, Sanemi was a possessive little shit who doesn't know boundaries.

He was so possessive that all the people that Ruri ended up befriending or approaching would get yelled at or hunted just because they were talking to Ruri.

Rengoku for example, Ruri did not even want to elaborate at how Sanemi was being unreasonable just because she was caught laughing with the other pillar.

Ruri was simply having a nice conversation with him when Sanemi came into the scene with a furious look on his face.

Oh Sanemi was pissed alright. He was all shouting and yelling as he dragged Ruri away, pointedly telling her to stop flirting with other men as if she was some common slut.

Now Ruri was actually offended by this and she screamed at him with the same intensity though their fights either ended up with them making out or fighting like cats and dogs. One could never tell since this happened repeatedly when Ruri kept socializing with the other pillars.

Even hanging out with Mitsuri got her yelled at and Mitsuri was a woman!

Now, Ruri have always cared for Sanemi, seeing as they've grown up together most of their life and they know each other like the back of their hands but there were times that he can be such a pain in the ass.

Nevertheless, Ruri has always been understanding towards him because of his past.

They were also each other's first friend which made them closer than most people and one thing led to another.

Though it was never really clear what kind of relationship they have, what Ruri knows is that she cares deeply for Sanemi and will always prioritize him over anyone else.

They've been together for so long and they've experienced a lot of things together. Half of the time, they would be engaged in a heated conversation and half of the time, they were physically pummeling each other to the ground.

Shinobu sometimes jokes and tells Ruri how perfect the two of them are, seeing as they know how to put each other in place and even without a proper label, it was obvious they care for each other.

Ruri was actually too embarrassed to talk to the Insect Pillar after that because the woman always teases her a lot about her odd relationship with Sanemi.

Ruri would never admit that she's never really done it all the way with Sanemi because then the Insect Pillar would tease her nonstop about it.

Ruri isn't even sure if she was ready for that kind of intimacy. She did tease him a lot but they were harmless jabs and taunts just to rile him up.

And just like Sanemi, Ruri was also a possessive little shit who doesn't shy away from challenging him.

"Sanemi, you better not be fraternizing with other women when you already have me!"

"I was training!"

"Then who was that girl that gave you a lunch box!?"

"Tch. No one, I don't even know her!"

"Then why did she gave you a lunch box?!"

"I don't know, woman! Ask her!"

"You better not be two timing or I'll slaughter your ass!"

"Stop jumping to conclusions!"

"I'm being practical! We're not even married yet!"

"What."

"Nothing, you idiot!"

Their relationship together was really complicated and Ruri would have to admit that sometimes she also has conflicting feelings towards Sanemi.

He was loud, shorttempered, possessive and practically anti-social when he wants too. Not really your ideal kind of guy but some girls like the scarred ones, some girls which includes Ruri.

Sanemi's scars has always appealed to Ruri and in some way, it reminded her of how strong Sanemi's conviction is. His desire to kill demons as well as his unforgiving nature towards them.

On the other hand, Sanemi always did feel quite annoyed that Ruri called him 'Nemi' most of the time but he got used to it overtime. The nickname always reminded him of Genya and his family.

It also doesn't help that Ruri spends time with his little brother behind his back. It's always been a source of argument between the two of them though even if Sanemi sometimes call her insulting words, he never really means them and Ruri knows that.

What Ruri doesn't agree or understand is that Sanemi's been distancing himself from Genya so he would be safer that way. Why can't she understand that?

But no, Ruri would always call him out for abandoning his little brother just like that and for not even trying to mend their relationship.

"It doesn't suit you to be selfish, Nemi. You've never been like that."

"Just leave it be! I don't need your damn opinion!"

"I can't just leave it be! Have you ever seen how distraught Genya look everytime I tell him that you refuse to see his face because you have no brother? Do you even know how heartbreaking that sounds for him when he's working hard to catch up to you?"

Ruri fumed, walking back in forth as her hands remained restless.

"He's my little brother too and I can't stand seeing him that way. Are you really going to let your pride get the better of you? What if it's too late?"

"Shut up! Shut up! SHUT UP!" Sanemi seethed. "Stop ordering me around and stop fucking around someone else's business! That little shit better stop now because he has no talent and either way, he won't achieve anything by joining the Demon Slayer Corps when he can't even use breaths!"

"Sanemi!" Ruri said, an exasperated look on her face. "I can't believe you! Don't talk about Genya like that!"

"I can and I will! Riri, I told you to stop fucking around because it's none of your business!"

"Don't give me that! Genya is my little brother too!"

"He's not your real brother! Why do you even care?!"

"I CARE because he matters to me and you're both my family so I will continue to meddle as long as it takes if it means that you both could mend your relationship!"

And just like that, arguments about Genya would leave them not talking to each other for days, even weeks! Oyakata-sama would have to send the two on a mission together just so they could make up because heaven knows how incredibly prideful the both of them can be.

And for a long time, Ruri has never able to make Sanemi mend his relationship with Genya because their own relationship was too unstable to begin with.
