In his office room at the mansion, Pond was focusing on his work when he suddenly heard Joe’s voice booming from the planning room. Frowning, he put down his work and went over to find Joe pacing around, clearly upset.
Joe was yelling at Gemini. “Hey, Gem! It’s not our fault your uncle’s always breathing down our necks. Why does he always think we’re the ones causing trouble? We didn’t kidnap Phuwin this time! Why can’t he get that through his head?”
Gemini sighed, rubbing his temples in frustration. “Look, sometimes Phu just goes off on his own. My uncle’s just worried because he has no idea where Phu is.”
Pond’s gaze narrowed. “What’s going on?” he asked, his voice calm but authoritative.
Joe looked at him, exasperated. “That police officer—is on us again, accusing us of kidnapping Phuwin. But we haven’t done anything this time, and he won’t believe it!”
Pond furrowed his brow, his fingers absently rubbing the bridge of his nose. “Gemini, you have Phuwin’s number, right? Track him.”
Gemini shook his head. “Already tried. You don’t know Phuwin like I do—he’s smart. He either uses a private number or has his location blocked perfectly.”
Pond sighed, his gaze steely. “Then think of something else. You know him better than most; there has to be a way to find him.”
After a moment, Gemini’s eyes lit up. “Wait… I bet Fourth knows where he is or could even be with him. I’ll call him and check.” He quickly dialed Fourth’s number but frowned when the call went unanswered. “Fourth isn’t picking up,” he said, then checked his tracking system. “But I’ve got his location. He’s at the college right now. If we go there, we might be able to find Phuwin.”
Pond nodded decisively. “Good. I’ll go check.”
At the college, Phuwin and Fourth were in an empty classroom, laughing quietly to themselves. Fourth was trying to practice his “kidnapper” voice, but it was nowhere close to intimidating.
In a deep, wobbly tone, he said, “Hello, police officer, it’s Khun Pond. I have kidnapped your son, and… um… you’ll never see him again!” He turned to Phuwin and asked, “Did that sound right?”
Phuwin snickered, reaching over to smack Fourth lightly on the back of his head. “Aii, Fot, that’s terrible! If you sound like that, my old man will definitely figure you out in a second. You have to get the style right! Listen to me closely—Pond doesn’t just speak, he roars. He’s bold, strong. You sounded like a dying rat!”
Fourth pouted, rubbing his head. “Fine, Mr. Critic, show me how it’s done. With you as a friend, my life is nothing but trouble.”
Phuwin smirked, playfully lounging back in the chair, crossing one leg over the other. With an air of confidence, he lowered his voice and spoke as if he were Pond himself. “Hello, police officer,” he drawled in a deep, confident tone. “Your son is in my custody. This won’t stop here, not once you’ve crossed paths with us. So, be prepared—there’s no end in sight.”
Fourth broke into applause. “Wow, Phu, that was perfect! You really sounded like him!”
Phuwin smirked proudly. “See? That’s how it’s done. Now, try it yourself.”
Handing Fourth his phone, Phuwin instructed, “Here, call my dad and talk like that, just like I showed you.”
Fourth nodded, straightening up as he prepared for the call. Just as he was about to speak, he looked past Phuwin and froze, his eyes widening in shock.
“Hey, Fot! What’s the holdup? Speak up, you idiot,” Phuwin urged, nudging him to start.
Fourth frantically gestured for him to look behind. “Phu…” he whispered, “just turn around.”
Irritated, Phuwin sighed, “Fine, what’s so important—” He stopped mid-sentence when he turned to see Pond standing behind them, leaning against a desk with a glare that could cut through steel.
Phuwin’s face flushed as he gave a nervous laugh, scratching the back of his head. “Oh, hey… Pond… um, well, my dad… he set me up on a blind date again, so… I thought I’d try your technique,” he stammered, his hands flailing as he tried to explain.
Pond’s expression remained unreadable as he walked up to him. The closer he got, the more Phuwin’s breathing hitched. Without warning, Pond’s hand rose, landing in a light slap across Phuwin’s cheek—not enough to hurt, but enough to make him pause.
Phuwin blinked, taken aback, a mixture of confusion and irritation flashing across his face as he frowned up at Pond. “What was that for?” he demanded.
Pond’s voice was stern, but there was a hint of concern underneath. “Is this a joke to you, huh? Didn’t I tell you not to cause trouble like this? You think it’s fun to stir things up when your father’s worried sick?”
Phuwin bit his lip, looking down, his hand nervously clutching his backpack. “I… I didn’t mean to…” he mumbled, clearly embarrassed.
With a sigh, Pond grabbed Phuwin’s hand, pulling him toward the door. “Come on. Enough games. I’m taking you home.”
Phuwin nodded, still shaken, and allowed himself to be led out, glancing back once at Fourth, who was watching them with wide eyes as the two disappeared down the hallway.
Outside the college, Pond led Phuwin out, only to spot Phuwin’s father waiting by his police car with a squad of officers behind him. The moment Phuwin saw his dad, he stiffened, a flicker of fear crossing his face. He quickly moved behind Pond, clutching his backpack tightly as he tried to hide.
Pond noticed Phuwin’s behavior and gave him a quick, reassuring look before confidently approaching the officer. “Officer,” he called out, his voice steady, “I believe you’re looking for someone?”
Phuwin’s father, arms crossed, glared at Pond. “I got a report that my son was missing. You and your friends have anything to say about that?”
With a calm expression, Pond looked around for Phuwin, realizing the younger man was hiding behind him. He reached back, grasping Phuwin’s hand, and gently nudged him forward. “Come on,” he whispered. “Time to face the music.”
Phuwin gasped, glancing at Pond with wide eyes before reluctantly stepping forward. He kept his gaze on the ground, shuffling nervously as he stood beside his father.
Pond took a step closer to the officer, his voice steady but assertive. “As you can see, Officer, here’s your son. We didn’t kidnap him, and we’re not responsible for his whereabouts. But you know, you might want to reconsider your approach.”
The officer frowned. “And what exactly do you mean by that?”
Pond glanced over at Phuwin, who was nervously signaling for him to keep quiet, his face a shade paler. Ignoring Phuwin’s silent plea, Pond continued, “How many times have you set him up on these pointless blind dates? Phuwin doesn’t need that. He wants to feel real love, not just some arranged formality.”
Phuwin’s father’s stern expression didn’t waver. “It’s none of your business, Pond.”
“Oh, I think it is,” Pond replied, slipping on his sunglasses. “He doesn’t want blind dates—he wants to find love on his own, maybe even a boyfriend. But with you showing up in uniform, looking as fierce as you do, no one would have the guts to approach him. Why don’t you take a day off and spend some time with him? Ask him what he wants instead of constantly forcing him into things.”
The officer’s eyes narrowed, but there was a faint hint of surprise in his expression.
“So, Officer, maybe ease up a bit and let him live his life.” Without waiting for a response, Pond adjusted his sunglasses. “And don’t come after us again.”
With that, he gave Phuwin a quick, reassuring glance before turning and striding away confidently.
Once Pond left, Phuwin’s father took a deep breath, glancing at his son with a strict, unwavering gaze. “Get in the car,” he ordered, his tone softer but still firm.
Phuwin nodded, swallowing as he climbed into the car, casting one last look at Pond in the distance. Then, he turned away, silently taking his seat beside his father as they drove off, tension lingering in the air.
