Maya is a smart and intelligent girl, she grew up being the brains of the house, unlike her brother who was all sports. But she was still a sporty girl regardless of what others may think. People find it easy to speak to her and confide in her. She is known for keeping secrets, she doesn't feel the need to tell people things that were none of their business. She would like to avoid confrontation, actually, she would prefer it but sadly she somehow gets sucked into it and has to deal with it. She can hold and handle her own. Being raised beside her brother, she's gotten used to tussling and messing around, she can take jokes a lot better than others. When anxious or nervous, she tends to ramble or fidget a lot. Most importantly, she's learned to be very independent and patient.

Maya comes from a decent family, her father owns a restaurant in town. Her mother apparently passed away, that's what her father has been telling her and her brother, she's a topic that everyone in the house tends to avoid. But the reality is, that her mother left and went back home to Argentina. Her older brother was a basketball star in high school, even in college and now he's a well-known and professional player that is rarely home. But while in high school, he took a few of the boys on the Raven Basketball Team under his wing, and well he is close to them, and now she is as well. Eventually, she and Nathan did start to see one another. And that led to very early marriage and pregnancy. But even though they went through all of that, she still went to college and became a nurse.
