chapter twenty-three .
July 13
You have 12 new messages from Joonie.
You have 6 new messages from Hoseok.
You have 3 new messages from Jungkook.
You have 4 new messages from Taehyung.
You have 5 new messages from Jimin.
You have 2 new messages from Seokjin.
It was honestly such a strange and overwhelming feeling for Yoongi to wake up to this. Had these people no better thing to do than text him first thing in the morning? Well, he expected it from Namjoon, Hoseok, and Jimin by now, but the other three still puzzled him. Especially Taehyung. Yoongi still wasn't used to talking with Tae on friendly terms and yet, every time the boy texted him, only nice words were spoken, as though those first three months of hostility had dissipated the very moment Taehyung delivered his heartfelt apology.
Yoongi propped himself up in bed and read the messages with just a hint of reluctance.
Joonie: heeeeyyy how's my favorite boy doing
Joonie: smth I gotta tell u yoongs ol buddy ol pal
Joonie: my sis
Joonie: my darling sis Sungha

Joonie: I'm gonna pick u up in like twenty minutes ok
Yoongi: are u an idiot
Joonie: <33 see u soon yoongs bby u da best
There were times Yoongi seriously considered murdering his best friend. Groaning internally, he opened Jimin's messages next.
Jimin: yoongi namjoon just invited me to model with him??
Jimin: im so confused but also this is so cool
Jimin: I had no idea his sister was a clothes designer •o•
Jimin: this is actually kind of exciting I've nvr done smth like this b4

Hoseok: anyhow I'm suuper excited !!! wby Yoongi ?
Yoongi: ugh

Next: Jungkook.
Jungkook: lmao modeling
Jungkook: didn't see that coming
Jungkook: sounds fun tho
Yoongi: debatable
Jungkook: lmao

Taehyung: heya Yoongi
Taehyung: Namjoon tell u already about modeling for his sister?
Taehyung: you'd be the first he'd tell I guess

Taehyung: is his sister a Gucci designer
Yoongi: no Taehyung she runs her own company
Taehyung: I see
Taehyung: well I guess I'll cu there friend
Yoongi: mhm
Finally, Seokjin.
Seokjin: this woman named Kim Sungha asked my manager if she could have me model a new line of clothes for her, Yoongi
Seokjin: I just found out this morning that Ms. Sungha has a younger brother
Yoongi: it's Namjoon
Seokjin: I KNOW I JUST FOUND OUT
Seokjin: and I ALSO found out that he's going to be there too?? NAMJOON NEVER TOLD ME HE WAS A MODEL
Yoongi: he's not...sungha just asked him to do this for her
Yoongi: and I'm being dragged along too kms
Yoongi: and apparently Jimin, and Taehyung, and Jungkook, and Hoseok
Seokjin: Yoongi don't tell Joonie I'm gonna be there ok?? I want it to be a surprise
Yoongi: whatever seokjin
With great reluctance Yoongi dragged himself out of bed and over to his closet where he grabbed the first thing he saw-a solid color t-shirt and a pair of jeans. If he were going to be (forced into) modeling clothes, it didn't matter what he wore now, since he would be changing into something different as soon as he got to the studio. He had been there once. Not to model, but because Namjoon had brought him one time because the two planned to hang out, and for some reason he wanted to show Yoongi where his sister worked.
In a few minutes, he heard his phone buzz. Namjoon had texted him saying he was waiting outside in his car, and that he would be picking up Jimin and Taehyung. Hoseok apparently had his license, and he offered to take Jungkook, since it would be a tight squeeze if another person were to ride in the back seat of Namjoon's car.
Yoongi sighed. He wasn't getting out of this one.
------
From Taehyung's house-he was the last to be picked up-the drive to the studio lasted about forty-five minutes. Forty-five minutes of Namjoon, Jimin, and Taehyung loudly singing the lyrics to a great number and variety of songs Namjoon had on his playlist. Well, most of them were Jin's songs, but he did share Yoongi's love of Big Bang as well as some other bands. Yoongi had to try so hard not to belt the words to Fantastic Baby, which he would have done if it were just Namjoon and himself in the vehicle. On the other hand, he was still kind of tired, and singing would more than likely drain what energy he had, so perhaps refraining from doing so would be best.
It was around 10:30 when they arrived at the studio. By that time Hoseok and Jungkook had already been there for fifteen minutes, waiting by Hoseok's car and chatting whilst they waited for the others.
"Yoongi! Hi!!"
The redhead waved to his friend wildly, then proceeded to do the same with the other three boys. Jungkook waved too, but much less enthusiastically-not because he wasn't excited or anything, but no one had nearly as much energy as Hoseok.
"You guys been waiting long?" Namjoon asked.
"Not long," Hoseok answered. "Like ten or fifteen minutes. Figured we'd wait for you guys before going inside. You are her brother after all, Namjoon." He beamed.
"Yeah, I am." The blond took out his phone. "Speaking of which, I should probably let her know we're here-"
"Joonie!!"
He nearly dropped his phone, acutely startled by the unannounced voice belonging to Kim Seokjin, who emerged from the modeling studio dressed in a snazzy black suit, and the first thing he did was run up to Namjoon and capture him in a tight hug.
"Jin, you're here too?!" Hoseok clapped his hands, pleasantly surprised by this pleasant surprise. Jimin's and Taehyung's mouths fell open.
Jungkook whistled. "You're hot."
Seokjin tugged the collar of his suit jacket. "Aw, shucks. Ya think so?"
"I know Namjoon thinks so," Yoongi said, scarcely withholding a smirk.
He certainly did think so. Jin was attractive enough on his own, and the fancy black suit, close-fitting shirt, and charcoal grey tie only added to his handsomeness factor. Namjoon swallowed his breath.
"I, uh...thought Sungha told me this was going to be a casual line."
"Oh, this isn't hers, I came here in this," Seokjin said with a chuckle. "Nice, though, isn't it?"
"Very nice," Jimin blurted. Namjoon's thoughts exactly.
Just then, Namjoon's sister came out of the studio, a big smile on her face, flowing red hair touching her shoulders and matching the shade of her lipstick and three-inch heels. She had on a suit of her own, because Kim Sungha was just a classy person like that. Truly a gorgeous woman from head to toe.
"Wow, there are even more of you than I expected." She counted the heads. "Seven. This is great. Well, for those of you who don't know who I am, my name is Kim Sungha. I'm Namjoon's big sis. Been in the clothes designing industry five years-ah, ten years, technically, five running my own business. But that's not really important." Sungha paused for a brief time, taking out her phone as it had just begun to ring. "Mhm...mhm...yeah, there're all here now. Seven. If you guys are ready over there we'll take 'em there now...mhm...yeah, that's fine. Alright, thanks. See you in a few."
Yoongi didn't know this was going to be an outside event. He thought it would be simple--they'd all go in the studio, try on a couple outfits, get some shots snapped, and boom, he could go home. Not so. Before he knew it, Yoongi was being guided with the rest of the boys into a van headed to some "scenic" location about twenty minutes away. There, they discovered several trailers and some photographers waiting for them, and all of a sudden Yoongi really wanted to get back in Namjoon's car and leave. But he couldn't. It was too late for that.
"Yoongi?"
The mint-haired boy nearly jumped out of his skin. He spun around frantically, only to find Jimin standing right beside him, a look of sympathy stretched across his face.
"I'm fine," Yoongi blurted before Jimin could even get the words out. "No need to worry. I'll...be fine."
"Yeah," Jimin said with a smile, "I know you'll be." He gave his friend an encouraging pat on the back. "You've got me here, after all. And Namjoon."
"Not so sure I can rely on him with Jin here." Yoongi rolled his eyes.
"Well, in that case, am I good enough?"
He looked into Jimin's eyes, Jimin's beautiful, warm, shining eyes...and he cracked a small smile. "Yeah," came his soft reply. "You're good enough. It's a big responsibility, though...looking after me."
"Oh, I think I'm up for the challenge." The orange-haired boy chuckled. "More than that, I'm gonna get you to smile in at least one of these pictures."
"No, you won't."
"I will. 10,000 won says so."
"I don't think you can do it."
"I already got you to smile once since we've gotten here."
Yoongi scoffed, then gave Jimin's nose a little pinch. "You cheeky little thing, you..."
"Are you boys ready?"
Sungha came up behind them, though seemingly from nowhere, thus startling Yoongi. The woman beamed and looked at the two boys with some sort of twinkle in her eye. But she said nothing on the matter. She simply gestured Yoongi and Jimin to follow her as she led them to the trailers. The next few minutes after that went by in a blur--at least for Yoongi. After having been given terse instructions by one of the staff, he entered a trailer, changed into the outfit labeled with a "#1" sticker, left the trailer, and was greeted immediately by two stylists who fixed his hair and put some makeup on him. All the while Yoongi had been holding his breath, struggling not to bite his tongue so hard that it would bleed. But he was anxious. Without realizing it, his eyes scanned the area for Jimin, who began to approach him seconds after Yoongi's stylists had finished their job. At this point Jimin was ready, too, now all fixed up, grinning from ear to ear because he quite liked the comfortable feel of these brand new clothes and the makeup made him feel like an idol.
Not to mention Yoongi looked freaking adorable. That also may or may not have been a factor in Jimin's high spirits.
"You ready?"
"No." Yoongi looked at the ground. Wow. And I didn't think it was possible for him to look more attractive.
"It's gonna be alright, Yoongi. I promise."
"Define 'alright'." The mint-haired boy lifted his nervous gaze to watch Jungkook, who was in the process of getting some individual shots done. "Look at him," Yoongi mumbled. "He's a natural. You'd think he's done this before. What the heck am I supposed to do when they call me up?"
"Pose and look pretty."
"Easier said than done."
"I think you've got it covered, pretty boy."
"Pretty boy?"
"The prettiest boy."
At that moment, Jimin was called over by Sungha to have some pictures of his own taken. Not wanting to keep the busy staff waiting, he hurried over, but not before patting Yoongi's shoulder and whispering, 'wish me luck'. Yoongi didn't say anything in reply, however. All he could do was watch as Jimin ran off, leaving behind a trace that almost made him want to follow the boy. The prettiest boy. Those words had sounded so genuine. So sweet, as was everything that came out of Jimin's mouth. Yoongi caught a glimpse of Jimin smiling at him, and not a second later a camera went off, followed by an apology from the orange-haired boy, followed by an assuring 'no, that was good, keep that up' from one of the photographers. And he did keep it up. Having been granted this approval, Jimin continued to look Yoongi's way as the cameras took picture after picture. Their eyes were locked for about a solid minute.
"Yoongi, sweetheart!" Sungha cupped her hands over her mouth as she called to the dazed boy. "It's your turn now!"
Yoongi felt a jolt in his chest. Crap. I almost forgot. How did I forget so quickly?
It was just a short manner of time before Yoongi and Jimin had switched places, with Yoongi now regrettably in the cameras' line of view whereas Jimin stood at a near distance, staring at him. However, feeling just a little embarrassed,Yoongi glanced away every now and then so that the blush on his cheeks wasn't so obvious. But he always ended up looking back again. Because it just made things easier for him.
------
It was a lengthier process than Yoongi would have liked, seeing as he had to change into numerous outfits instead of simply being able to wear the one. But at the same time, he expected this. That's what this whole photoshoot was for: displaying not one, but all of the designs Sungha had made. Quite a few, evidently. The individual shots were done now. Yoongi thought it was over. Alas, he discovered Sungha had group shots in mind as well. This meant Yoongi couldn't go home. The boys were all being given a break, at least, so he was thankful for that.
Sitting in a foldable chair near one of the trailers, Yoongi began to slip into a slouching position but sat upright at the feeling of a cold water bottle touching his forehead.
"Hey."
Jimin had brought up a chair of his own and set it next to Yoongi's, at the same time handing the water bottle to him. The mint-haired boy accepted it with a barely audible 'thanks'.
"Why the long face?"
Yoongi shrugged. "Just a little tired, that's all. Then again I'm always tired so I guess that's not really saying much."
"Well, if it means anything at all, I think you did great with the photos, Yoongi." Jimin offered his signature eye-smile. "Honestly, I couldn't sense any nervousness at all. You were just as much of a natural as Jungkook was." He paused, then giggled. "Not to mention this hat looks adorable on you."
"Here you go again, mocking me." Yoongi scoffed.
"Not mocking. Complimenting. Do you not like the hat?"
"No, I do," admitted Yoongi, tugging at the black beret.
"Mm. Well, so do I."
Yoongi didn't expect Jimin to swiftly snatch the beret right off his head, but he did, and he bolted immediately, giggling as he waved the hat behind him, obviously tempting the other to follow after him. And Yoongi did. He honestly didn't know why he did--perhaps it was a 'spur of the moment' type of reaction--but he sprung up from his chair and made a dash for the orange-haired boy who was, surprisingly, not as quick as Yoongi, and Yoongi briskly closed the gap between the two. Taking notice that he was being gained on, Jimin began to dart from side to side and around the trailers with the intention of replenishing that lead he'd had just a minute ago. But again, Yoongi was quick, and he caught on to Jimin's tricks before long and caught up to him. However he still couldn't snatch the hat back. At least not easily. Yoongi had to stretch his hands out and attempt to grab it while Jimin was still running. Eventually, his fingers managed to grasp at it, and he gave the beret a firm tug. And so did Jimin. This caused the orange-haired boy to spin around suddenly, and for Yoongi to run straight into him, both falling straightway to the ground upon impact.
For a moment Yoongi was lying on Jimin's chest. Completely still. Then he lifted himself up slightly. And the two stared into each other's eyes, too fazed by what had happened to say a word. It struck before too long, though. The realization that there was no longer any space between them. Not an inch. Well, except for between their faces, and Jimin was so tempted to close that space. But within seconds the boys were on the feet. They began brushing themselves off as they tried to conceal the ever-reddening of their faces, scarcely successful.
"I-I'm so sorry, Yoongi, it's my fault, I didn't mean to-"
"You're really pretty up close."
The words slipped off his tongue against his will, without his knowing. Soft-spoken and sincere, they had all the more effect on Jimin, who was rendered speechless immediately upon hearing them.
It took a moment for his brain to process what his mouth had uttered. Taking a step back, Yoongi swallowed a lump in his throat, apologized for having fallen on Jimin, then walked away. Dumbfounded Jimin watched in silence as the mint-haired boy left.
He still had Yoongi's hat.
