chapter twenty-six . [ extra ]

Five months into their relationship and Yoongi still wasn't used to hearing the words 'I love you'. Five months into their relationship and Yoongi still turned as red as a tomato whenever Jimin smiled at him in a loving manner. Five months into their relationship and Yoongi still shook nervously whenever they held hands. Five months...and Yoongi was finally able to admit he really, really liked Jimin's kisses.

And Jimin kissed him often. On the cheek and hand when they were in public, on the lips whenever no one else was around. He couldn't help himself. He was so deeply in love, so tempted to just sweep the adorably shy Yoongi off his feet at every second and stare into his eyes, press their foreheads together, and forget anything else even existed. It sounded cheesy, he knew. But it was how he felt. It was how Yoongi felt, too, though he was a little less willing to accept that, his mind was a little less willing to admit that he ever even thought about kissing Jimin on his own, even though he did, many times. He wanted to. But he was nervous. Every time an opportunity presented itself, Yoongi's heart would double in speed and begin hammering against his chest like a furious woodpecker against a tree, and he couldn't do it. But it was okay, he told himself. There was no need to rush. He should take his time. Jimin said so, after all.

Jimin <3: there we can decide what we're doin 2morrow

He didn't even have the chance to reply. Two seconds later, Yoongi's phone began to ring - it was Jimin. He sighed, shaking his head as he answered the call.

"Jimin."

"Hi, Yoongi."

Yoongi could practically hear him smiling.

"So, then," Jimin began. He cleared his throat. "Uh...do you...have any ideas, Yoongi?"

"That depends."

"What do you mean?"

"Whether or not you care about being original or not."

There was a slight pause. "...meaning?"

"Well, I mean we could go to a cafe or coffeeshop," Yoongi said, "but those are cliche, everyone goes on cafe and coffeeshop dates. It's okay with me, though, that's why I was aski-"

"It's okay with me, too," Jimin said in agreement, humming softly. "Anything is good. After all, you know how the saying goes, 'it's not about the places you go, but the people you go there with'."

Yoongi suppressed a scoff. "So cheesy."

"I know. So is one of those things good? I wouldn't mind going to a coffeeshop, actually." He chuckled. "Feels like I haven't been to one in a while...even though I'm well aware I was just at one last week with Tae - well, more like Tae and Jungkook. Kookie called Tae while we were there and Tae was like 'I'm with Jimin right now, I'll stop by your place later, okay?' And then they spent the next five minutes going 'you hang up', 'no, you hang up', 'no you hang up'. And like Jungkook ended up hanging up first and Tae legit turned to me and said, 'I can't believe he actually hung up'." Jimin laughed again, heartier this time, which pleased Yoongi's ears.

What didn't please Yoongi's ears, however, was the next thing that came out of Jimin's mouth.

"Oh my gosh, Yoongi, I just had an idea. We should have a double date. A double date, Yoongi." He was borderline squealing now. "Can't believe I didn't think about this before! I'm sure they'd love to tag along with us. Is it okay if I invite them, Yoongi? Can I? Can I??"

It was virtually impossible - denying Jimin when he used this adorable, childish pleading voice of his was vain effort. Yoongi knew this well enough by now. Jimin was his weak spot, without a doubt. The mint-haired boy swallowed his breath and spoke softly into the phone:

"Anything that makes you happy, Jimin."

Hearing that alone made Jimin's heart skip a beat - Yoongi was his weak spot just as much as he was Yoongi's. He wanted to go tell Taehyung and Jungkook of his plans straightaway, but the love-struck boy that he was didn't want to hang up with this person who he could talk to hours on end. Eventually, though, after mustering up all the will he had in his body, Jimin ended the call with a soft-spoken, "I'll talk to you later, Yoongi. Love you."

Yoongi spent a long minute staring at his phone after the call was ended, dwelling on those two little words that he loved hearing so, as well as the ideas of what kind of experience a double date would be, and a double date with Tae and Jungkook, no less. He had never seen how those two behaved as a couple, and honestly, he still couldn't believe or imagine it. It happened out of nowhere. Yoongi had been under the impression these two were nothing more than casual friends, they didn't seem to talk to each other or hang out all that often, and Taehyung especially didn't always seem all that keen on hanging out with anyone other than Jimin. But then, of course, all that changed one day, several months ago, when Taehyung so boldly announced to his best friend that he and Jungkook were dating. It came as a shock to Jimin, to say the least, but, to literally everyone's surprise, the boy was absolutely over the moon about it - as though all along, Park Jimin had been the certified captain of the S.S. Taekook, but had chosen to keep in the shadows about it. Whatever be the case, he was extremely happy for them. And he adored the story behind the two's falling in love. Quite interesting, both Yoongi and Jimin agreed, and sweet, too.

Yoongi was happy for them, just like Jimin. But what he was really waiting for now was for his best friend to man up and ask Seokjin out. Or the other way around. He didn't care. He was simply growing much too impatient. And a little annoyed, even. But Yoongi wasn't about to push the two of them into a corner and tell them they couldn't leave until they dealt with their feelings. He would have to let them sort things out themselves.

Saturday, three in the afternoon, right at the downtown coffeeshop that had the outdoor seating - those were the specifics they decided on. It wasn't too far away in terms of distance, not consistently crowded, and the coffee was good, which was the main determining factor of whether or not Yoongi would willingly go.

At exactly two o'clock, Yoongi finished getting himself ready - technically, that is. He ended up spending another five minutes in front of his mirror trying to figure out if his hair looked right, and if his clothes weren't casual enough, and if he should wear a heavier jacket. It was March; the temperatures were supposedly starting to warm up, but not enough so that Yoongi could comfortably go outside in short sleeves or a paper-thin coat. So he opened his window and allowed mother nature's breeze to drift into his bedroom.

Not what he expected. Cold. Bitingly so. They definitely wouldn't be using the outdoor seating area in this weather, but that was okay with Yoongi. He preferred indoors anyway.

Throwing on his charcoal gray duffel coat, Yoongi adjusted his bangs one last time, then hurried out of his room and out the front door - almost out the front door, that is. Something stopped him from going past the door frame.

"Yoongi, hey."

Park Jimin, in his black and white plaid blanket scarf and caramel brown parka, his nose and cheeks dusted in a light shade of red, probably because of the cold, Yoongi thought, though it did look like he was blushing. Jimin broadened his already present smile. He took one step closer to Yoongi and put his arms around his boyfriend's neck, squeezing him briefly but so tightly that Yoongi, for a moment, couldn't breathe. It didn't bother him, though, because right after Jimin pulled away, Yoongi earned a kiss on the cheek, and following that Jimin took one of the boy's hands and held it. Then, with a tilt of the head, he said softly, "Shall we go?"

The two walked hand in hand to the bus stop and boarded the next bus that would take them nearest to their desired location. By the time they arrived at the coffeeshop, Jimin and Yoongi found that Taehyung and Jungkook were already there, seated at one of the small tables outside. Each had one earphone plugged in their ear, eyes glued intently to the screen of Taehyung's phone, which he held out in front of them.

"They sure have made themselves comfortable," Yoongi commented, squinting at the two boys who were now in the process of nearly falling out of their seats over something that was apparently hilarious. Once he had regained his composure, Jungkook raised his head and made eye contact with both Jimin and Yoongi, and he waved enthusiastically at them, soon to tap Taehyung's shoulder and direct the boy's attention to their friends.

"How long have you guys been here?" Jimin asked once he was close enough to them.

"Not long," Taehyung replied. "Ten minutes, at most." He shivered noticeably.

"Tae, you idiot." Jimin lightly smacked his friend's head. "You could have waited inside, ya know. It's freezing out here."

"That's what I told him," Jungkook said, also lightly smacking Tae's head. "But he insisted he wanted to wait outside."

Yoongi stepped forward and gave Taehyung's poor head its third hit of the day.

"Hey..." The brown-haired boy pouted, narrowing his eyes at the now smirking Yoongi. "What was that for?"

"No reason. Just felt like hitting you."

"Mean. I thought we were friends."

"Mm. Was that established?"

"Yes! You said so yourself!"

"Don't recall."

"You-"

"Alright, guys, that's enough."

Jimin stifled a laugh and gestured at the door of the coffeeshop, which happened to open at that exact moment, granting the boys a whiff of sweet, brewing coffee. The warmth of indoors beckoned them and succeeded in its beckoning. Taehyung in the lead, the four of them filed into the coffeeshop one by one. They stopped for a brief moment at the entrance after the door had closed behind them and the little bell rung. Four pairs of eyes looked to the line at the counter, and a loud internal sigh was drawn from a certain mint-haired boy who wasn't too fond of people in general, but especially people who stood in the way of him and his coffee. Jimin immediately noticed the change of expression in Yoongi's eyes and took the liberty of offering to wait in line for everyone, so long as they told him their orders and agreed to pay him back later - except Yoongi, of course. Jimin wouldn't accept Yoongi paying him back.

"Iced americano," chirped Jungkook.

"Chai tea," said his predictable boyfriend.

"Double espresso," finished Yoongi, regardless of the fact he was aware Jimin knew what he wanted already. The orange-haired boy smiled at them, then spun around and claimed his spot at the end of the line. Yoongi watched him. He watched as Jimin, after a minute, started to rock back and forth on his heels, digging his hands into his pant pockets as he whistled. The corner of Yoongi's mouth curved upward against his will - Jimin was just too cute, there was nothing he could do.

"Yo, Yoongi, you wanna sit down or can you not bear to be apart from Jimin for that long?"

Yoongi fired a death glare at Taehyung, one that caused the boy to flinch and clench the hand of his all-too-amused boyfriend.

"There's an empty booth over there," Jungkook stated, jabbing a thumb in the direction of said booth, which was one away from the corner booth - that one was taken by a group of girls. Yoongi didn't want to sit there. At all. But there didn't appear to be another empty spot, and with the amount of people currently in line, they needed to take what they could get before it was taken from them.

So they did. Jungkook slid into the booth first, followed by Taehyung, and Yoongi sat opposite to them. It didn't take long for the latter's eyes to drift over once again to the boy standing in line. He didn't do it consciously. His gaze just happened to be wandering, and that's where it ended up. And stuck. Long enough for Jimin to look back at him and realize he was being stared at. He beamed. Then waved. Yoongi, embarrassed for having been caught, blushed, and he waved back shyly before turning his eyes away to stare at his hands on the table.

Taehyung cleared his throat loudly.

Yoongi raised an eyebrow and hesitated to make eye contact. Taehyung was looking at him in a way. A way that irritated him, because he looked so cheeky that Yoongi just wanted to slap his face - but he didn't. In the end, Taehyung was his friend, cheekiness and annoying behavior and all.

"I have a question for you, Yoongi."

"Not answering it," he said straightaway. Tae scoffed indignantly.

"Kookie, can you believe him? Being so mean to me all the time when I don't even give him a reason..."

Yoongi felt just a little betrayed when he saw Jungkook shake his head in what he could only assume was sad, sympathetic agreement.

"So mean," the boy said, holding back a smile. "Yoongi, why can't you just answer Tae's question? He - look, he's gonna cry. C'mon, Yoongi, before the waterworks start." Jungkook draped an arm over Taehyung's shoulder and pulled him closer, wiping the boy's dry eyes with his thumb as though there really had been a tear there. Tae sniffled. Yoongi bit his tongue.

What did I do to deserve this? "Fine." Yoongi, too unwilling to put up a fight or deal with these two's ridiculous act, gave in, sitting back in his seat as he folded his arms. "What's your dumb question?"

"Have you kissed Jimin yet?"

He coughed - Yoongi did, quite loudly, too, and suspiciously. At least Taehyung found it suspicious. He glanced at Jungkook, then leaned slowly across the table, trying to get Yoongi to look at him, but Yoongi refused.

"You didn't, did you?" The simultaneously disbelieving and amused Taehyung sat upright again. "It's been what, five months?"

"Not even half a year," Yoongi said in self-justification. "It's...not a long period of time. Give me a break." Resting his elbows on the table, Yoongi folded his fingers together and hid his mouth behind them. "And it doesn't even feel like it's been that long," he added, muttering. "Seems more like five days than five months. I still don't understand it..."

"That's what happens when you love someone."

Jungkook had uttered this in a soft, nearly inaudible tone, yet somehow it seemed to have been spoken in a way that, unintentionally, commanded attention. Both Yoongi and Taehyung turned to face him, eyes a touch wider than they had been before.

"Ro-man-tic."

Jungkook's cheeks became dusted in a soft pink. Twiddling his thumbs, he offered a shy smile to Yoongi who found it in himself to smile back - after all, the boy was right, and he knew it. The reason these months felt like days were because hours turned into seconds when he was with Jimin. Time flew by too quickly, but he was in too deep, and he lost track of it. It slipped through his fingers like sand through an hourglass. But he didn't hate it. There was nothing he hated about being with Jimin - well, except the fact that he still wasn't over the "blushing like an idiot every time he looks at you" phase.

A few minutes later and Jimin at last showed up at the booth, holding all four of their drinks in a cardboard carrier. Carefully he set the carrier on the table, then slid across the bench until there was no longer any space between himself and Yoongi.

Scratch what I said earlier, the boy thought, already feeling color go to his cheeks. I'm not even over the "blushing like an idiot every time he's present" phase. No, scratch that again. I'll never get over this.

"So what were you guys talking about while I was gone, hm?" Jimin took a long sip of his coffee - Yoongi didn't know what it was, the drink was a reddish brown, and not what Jimin usually ordered - and threw up his eyebrows expectantly. Jungkook simply waved his hand in the air dismissively, but Taehyung spoke up.

"Yoongi here said he's thinking about dyeing his hair again."

"What?! B-but Yoongi, I love your mint green hair!"

"Wait, Jimin, he's - I mean, I'm n-"

"Fine! If you're dyeing your hair then I'll dye mine too!"

"Jimin, that's not-"

"How about pink? Do you think pink would look good??"

"...anything would look good on you, but that's not the point-"

"If you're going to dye your hair, I think black or red would look hot. Tae and Guk, what do you think?"

"Definitely black."

"I think blonde would be cute."

"No, Kookie, I think Jimin wants something hot. Yoongi's already got the cute down with his current hair."

"Um, he doesn't need colored hair to be cute-"

"I know, Jimin, calm down, no need to justify your boyfriend's looks."

"I wasn't justifying his looks!"

"Were too. So defensive when it comes to Yoongi, you are, Jiminie..."

"C'mon, Tae, you're being unfair here."

"Unfair? I'm just making observations."

"W-...Yoongi, do you think I'm defensive?"

The mint-haired boy deadpanned, however that lasted for a whopping six seconds, for he couldn't fight back the smile threatening to overtake his frown. It won the battle, and he even managed to laugh, because Jimin sounded so adorably genuine, and it was just so freaking funny, not the mention Jimin's minor panic attack at the mere idea of Yoongi dyeing his hair again.

Jimin, I don't deserve an angel like you...

"We'll see you guys later then! Bye Tae! Bye Jungkook!"

Standing outside the coffeeshop, Jimin and Yoongi waved to their friends who were departing from them to head back to Jungkook's house, whereas the former two had planned to spend a little more time in the area together. It was still quite cold, but the wind lay still, so it was bearable. Yoongi just had to make sure he didn't shiver so that Jimin wouldn't offer up his scarf.

"It's cold, Yoongi. here. Take my scarf."

Oh, come on. "No, Jimin, I don't want your scarf. Keep it." He exhaled and watched his breath turn into a small, visible cloud, then disappear. "I can deal with the cold."

"But you hate the cold."

"So?"

"So, shut up, I'm giving it to you."

Ignoring Yoongi's quiet pleas for him not to sacrifice the warmth of his scarf, Jimin slipped the item of clothing off from around his neck and placed it over Yoongi's own, adjusting it so that it was tight enough to trap as much air inside as possible without inhibiting the boy's breathing. All the while Yoongi stared at him, chin down, eyes up, ears red. Jimin's fingers brushed against his neck - whether it was intentional, Yoongi didn't know, but it made his skin tingle and his chest warm. Being so close to Jimin...he would never grow tired of it. Being able to see clearly into the beautiful pools of brown that stole his breath every time, having the chance, the right to wrap his arms around the boy whenever he needed to, whenever he wanted to... Sometimes he wondered when he had begun thinking of Jimin as more than just a friend. He wondered when he started wanting to be with him simply for the sake of being with him. He wondered when he started wanting to put his lips against Jimin's, and to keep them there...

"Jimin..."

"Hm?"

One hand around the back of the head and a gentle pull closer. Yoongi closed the gap between them, pressing their lips together softly, tasting the coffee that lingered - sweet and warm. Conveniently, not many people were around at the time, so Yoongi allowed himself to prolong the kiss and succumb to the strangely pleasant acceleration of his heartbeat.

He pulled away. Jimin's eyes were still closed, face completely flushed, and as his eyelids parted slightly, a crooked smile found its way to the lips Yoongi just left.

"Oh, wow." His voice shook, and it made Yoongi's face even warmer. "So that's what it's like..."

"H-huh?"

"You kissing me."

"It's...it's not like we haven't-"

"Oh, but it's different," Jimin interrupted, knowing what Yoongi was going to say before he finished. "I...I mean, you, uh...a-ah, jeez, you got me flustered now, Yoongi. What I'm trying to say is, it feels different, w-when...you initiate it, it feels...really nice. N-not that it doesn't normally feel nice! That's not what I mean by that-..."

He gave up on trying to clarify himself. Yoongi understood what he was trying to say, though, so it was okay. Jimin leaned his head against Yoongi's shoulder to hide his face.

"Ugh, I love you so much..."

"I love you, too..."

"Yoongi?"

"Hm?"

"Please don't dye your hair again. I don't want you to change."

Yoongi sighed and smiled, lifting his hand to pat Jimin's head. "I won't," he said softly, "for you."
