A/N: This one-shot basically is my interpretation of Jinx's and Ekko's history while Vi was arrested. The show never really explained why they hated each other so much, maybe because of Silco. Either way, everything should be canon other than my own plot.

Powder's/Jinx's POV

Seven Years Ago...

She carefully picked up another one of her toys, doodling on it with her markers. Her head buzzed with the swirling voices of Vi, Mylo, Claggor, and Vander. All gone, all of which left you for dead, Jinx thought of Silco's words. It was a strange thing, calling herself Jinx now. Vi was right, she was a jinx and always had been. Powder was gone, she had died in the explosion she caused.

Vi left her and didn't look back. How could she do that to her like that?

Sitting outside of the Last Drop, Jinx ignored the sounds of arguing inside from Silco and Sevika. They were discussing Jinx, Sevika wanted her to stay out of the criminal empire. Silco protested that she could be of use, and she was just a child. Jinx knew that she didn't have to worry, Silco took care of her and would never let Jinx leave.

"Powder." Ekko's voice brought Jinx's head up, seeing the dark-skinned boy in front of her. Jinx let the toy clatter to the floor as she hopped off the crater box she was sitting on. Ekko, he's here.

"Little Man?"

Ekko's face was an expression of shock and relief. "You're alive, oh my Gods, I thought you had died in the explosion with Mylo, Claggor, Vander, and your sisterโ€”"

"Vi isn't dead, and she's not my sister." Jinx crushed her failed invitation under her foot, kicking it aside. She stared at Ekko long and hard, scoffing. He hadn't bothered to look for her either, was he going to leave her like everyone else had? "Don't call me Powder."

"What...?"

"It's Jinx now." She jerked her head towards the Last Drop. "Leave now."

Ekko was stunned. "You're with Silco's goons now? Powderโ€”I-I mean, Jinx, you can't be serious. Silco is a horrible man, he's tricking you into doing his bidding. He killed Vander, the real owner of the Last Drop! Vander's your dad, Powder!"

"Vander's dead!" Jinx cried out, terrified. Her head pounded with a dozen thoughts as she winced from the headache. Her mind wasn't clear, it felt distorted. She shook her head at Ekko, wrapping her arms around her waist to protect herself. "I murdered him, Ekko."

His jaw dropped. "You c-caused the building to...?"

"It was a mistake, I didn't mean to kill them! I just wanted to save my friends and family!" Jinx's hands rolled into fists as she craned her neck to see that the fight between Silco and Sevika had ceased. Any minute, they would come outside for her and see Ekko. Silco would have him killed. "Just go away, Ekko. Time's up."

"You're still Powder," he tried to convince her, "come with me, you don't need to be with Silco. I'll protect the both of us, we'll hide out in Benzo's workshop. If Silco's men or the enforcers come for us, then it's better if we're together."

Jinx heard the footsteps of Silco and Sevika becoming louder. She pushed Ekko away, a defiant glare in her blue eyes. He staggered back, a look of betrayal plastered on his face. It pained Jinx to know that Ekko would only see her as Powder. "Get out now," she said, crossing her arms. "Before I jinx you too."

"I can save you, Powder!"

She picked up the fallen bomb, tossing it up in the air and catching it with her hand. Ekko's face fell, finally realizing everything. "I can't save you." His words were like a knife. "I can't." He spotted Silco and Sevika through the Last Drop's window, his eyes widening. He scrambled off, breezing past Jinx to run into the alleyway.

And Jinx was left alone once again.

The door opened, revealing Silco and Sevika. The woman grunted unhappily at Jinx but Silco extended his hand. "It's time for us to go home, child." Jinx took his skinny and calloused hand. "We'll show them, Powder."

"It's Jinx now."

Silco smiled thinly. "That's my girl."

Ekko's POV

His fingers glided over Powder's face on the mural wall at the Firelights Base. Many of the Firelights protested against Jinx's face up there, but as Ekko statedโ€”it wasn't Jinx who died, it was Powder. Years had passed since their encounter at the Last Drop, though Ekko still frequently fought her during battles between Silco's loyalists and the Firelights. "Nothing ever stays dead for long," he mumbled to himself.

After their battle at the bridge, Ekko had time to reflect about the look in Jinx's eyes. He couldn't bring himself to kill her, whether it was Jinx or Powder. He had loved both of them respectively at some point in time, maybe he still did. Was Jinx dead? Ekko didn't know, the last he heard was that Silco's goons took her away. My very best enemy, he called her. The Boy Saviour, Jinx would reply back.

Ekko's heart ached for the girl that was buried in his past and present.

"Boss, there's word of Singed and Silco. It's possible that Shimmer made Jinx survive, but that means she's deadlier than ever." Scar arrived from behind them, hands clasped. He glanced at Powder's face on the mural. "Is this a bad time...?"

"No, I was just thinking." Ekko walked alongside Scar as they wandered around the Firelight Base, discussing their next move on Jinx and Silco's criminal empire. "As far as I can tell, the empire remains doorant for now," Ekko explained. "Silco isn't making a current move, that gives us a chance to rest."

"Rest? But we could advance on them."

"The Firelights are beaten and tired, they need their rest, Scar."

He frowned, eyeing Ekko carefully. "And are you sure there are no extra feelings involved in this? I know how strongly you feel about Jinx, even without the factor of Powder. If you are thinking with your heart rather than your head..." Scar shook his head. "Ekko, you are now the Boy Saviour, many of our supporters are waiting for you to end Silco's reign. That includes ending Jinx's life, she is a dangerous threat to Zaun."

Ekko's voice became strained. "I know."

"You can't save sins, Ekko." Scar sighed heavily. "And Jinx is not a sin; she is an undoing."

Jinx's POV

She hated herself, this Shimmer-fuelled version of Jinx that furthered the voices in her head. Jinx couldn't believe that Silco allowed Singed to do this to her, this was her body and mind they were talking about.

You destroyed so many like how you did to us, Mylo's voice appeared.

And you ruined lives, Claggor added.

It's all your fault, Powder, Vander's tone was disappointed.

Jinx let out a deafening scream, banging her head with her fists to silence the buzzing. "Shut up, shut up, shut up!" She threw herself against the wall, blood oozing from her untreated cuts. She knew she was in the wrong, that she was guilty for all of the crimes that Silco put her up to. "Please, I'm sorry!" Jinx shrieked, slamming her fists on the ground until they were bruised. She sat up, hugging her knees as she screamed and sobbed in hysteria.

Is there anything so undoing as a daughter? Silco had said.

Yes, apparently there was. Jinx was everyone's undoing, not just to her dads. She couldn't forget the fight on the bridge with all of the Firelights, especially Ekko. She had lost control once again, Jinx felt weak and pathetic. If Ekko hadn't surrendered... Well, she'd be dead, with or without Silco's and Singed's Shimmer.

Jinx pulled herself to her feet, wobbling off-balance as she walked. She had to see Ekko for herself, maybe to lessen her suffering. She didn't know where the Firelights Base was, but she knew where his usual hangout spots were over time due to a pattern he had. It was typically randomizedโ€”Ekko never stayed in the same place for longโ€”but he would have the occasional anomaly. And perhaps this night is one too.

After wandering through Zaun's alleys, Jinx found herself at Benzo's old workshop. It was mostly deserted, but she saw Ekko through the broken window. He was flipping a coin, not noticing Jinx yet. It was better if he didn't see her, so she scaled the building to the blasted roof, and jumped in through the hole. Now on the second floor, she sat on the shadowed staircase, observing Ekko a bit.

He didn't look injured, maybe a bit scuffed up but fine regardless. Ekko sighed, leaning back on the wall, hand over his eyes. He looked restless, perhaps he wanted to go to sleep. Jinx wouldn't blame him if he dreamed of a better life in another universe. A universe where Jinx wasn't there, because if there was no good version of her, then there wouldn't be a version of her at all.

Jinx felt compelled to kill, to get the Firelight boy dead while he was defenceless and clueless. Perhaps that would get her back in Silco's good graces or get her a leg up in the competition. Yet, she couldn't bring herself to do that now that Jinx was Shimmer-fuelled. Despite the fact that Silco's entire empire was built on Shimmer, she never wanted to be influenced by it. With it, her insanity went ka-boom and there was no telling what she'd do.

Jinx stood up, quietly going back up the staircase so she wouldn't alert Ekko of her presence. It was better that way, they were enemies only. Together, they were the worst of each other. But she paused and glanced over her shoulder, seeing a close-eyed and exhausted Ekko back on the floor. "Goodbye, Boy Saviour," she whispered silently.
