Christmas Concert

I don't want a lot for Christmas
There is just one thing I need
I don't care about the presents
Underneath the Christmas tree
I just want you for my own
More than you could ever know
Make my wish come true
All I want for Christmas is you.
~All I Want for Christmas is You ~ Mariah Carey~

...December 9, 2010...

It's a Thursday and Robin, Wally, Megan, Conner, and I are hanging out in the cave. Conner and Megan are sparring. Wally, Robin, and I stand on the sidelines all eating a bag of chips. Well, Wally and Robin are standing, I'm sitting on Wally's shoulders.

"I really can't stay..." I sing.

"Baby, it's cold outside," Robin sings the next part.

"Why do you always do that?" I huff.

"Why can't I sing along?" Robin asks.

"Do you know the whole song?"

"Obviously," Robin scoffs. "I feel that you sing it on purpose, so I'll sing along. You know I have to sing it for the concert."

I chuckle. I'm singing it because I'm performing the piece with you. "Maybe so."

"Your concert is tomorrow, right?" Wally asks. "Cause there is no way I'm missing it."

"And there's no way I'm telling you the time," Robin scoffs.

I lean over into Wally's face. "It's tomorrow at 6:30pm at Gotham Methodist Church. It's free."

"Bolt!" Robin shouts, crossing his arms in annoyance.

"Ha! Thanks Bolt!" Wally cheers. "I'd so invite the rest of the team, if they knew your secret ID."

I grin since I know that Artemis is going. "I really can't stay..."

...Concert: December 17, 2010...

Papa, momma, and I are on our way to the church for my concert. Momma is wearing a brunette wig and papa has on a lot of peach colored concealer to cover his white face. He wears clothes to cover the rest of his skin even gloves just so he can watch me. He leaves his hair the crazy green color as I explained that I got it from him. Papa is deciding to go by the name Joe Joleen, and momma is going by Rosaleen Joleen. I laugh at the names then we laughed together. We've agreed to the terms of them even changing the way they speak.

I can't tell you that I'm not nervous because I'm overly nervous. Not because I have to sing in front of over 500 people, but because I really hope Bruce doesn't realize that my parents are Joker and Harley Quinn. He is Batman after all.

I sit in my spot, waiting for our group to go and sing. The first couple of groups and soloists go before my group then it's the acapella group next.

I get up and get in my standing spot of the acapella group. The first song: Baby, it's Cold Outside.

The other people in the acapella group make the beginning sounds to lead up to our entrance. Richy and I walk forward to the microphones, giving each other a smile.

"I really can't stay," I begin.

"Baby, it's cold outside," he sings.

"I gotta go away."

"Baby, it's cold outside."

"This evening has been..."

"Been hoping that you'd drop in."

"So very nice."

"I'll hold your hands, they're just like ice."

"My mother will start to worry," I continue.

"Beautiful, what's your hurry?"

I grin at him as we continue the song. We end up lost in the song, getting closer to each other. Only when the last note is sung do we realize how close we've gotten and quickly separate completely red faced.

The other choirs go on and sing a few more songs.

The concert comes to an end and Richy and I immediately find each other to talk. Wally and Artemis find us, eyes widening when they see each other.

"You!" Artemis shouts, pointing.

Wally points right back. "You!"

"You two know each other?" I ask with a smirk.

"Uh, yeah, we... went to camp together?" Artemis lies.

"You don't sound too sure of yourself," Richy teases.

"Anyway, you both did great," Artemis says.

"Yeah, who knew you could sing so well," Wally says.

"You did a great job," Bruce compliments, walking up.

"Thanks Brucie!" I smile.

"Lovely job both of you," Alfred praises.

"There you are, girly," papa's voice cuts through to us and he appears with momma at his side.

I can see the five visibly tense at seeing my parents. My anxiety sparks.

"Momma! Papa!" I say.

"You did great, little monster," momma tells me.

"I didn't know you were close to the Wayne family," papa says, looking at Bruce then back to me.

I sheepishly look away from his glance, awkwardly rubbing my upper left arm.

"Nice to finally meet the parents of the famous Dawn Joleen," Bruce greets, holding out his hand. "Bruce Wayne."

Papa returns the shake. "Joe Joleen. This is my wife, Rosaleen."

"Nice to meetcha," momma responds.

"You weren't kidding when you said you got your hair color from your dad," Richy whispers to me.

"Agreed," Artemis voices.

I chuckle. "Told ya."

"How about we all go out to eat?" Bruce suggests.

"Oh! I know just the place!" Richy says.

~~~
We arrive at a fast food joint called Batburger. It's exactly what it sounds like. It's a restaurant based on Batman. Momma, papa, Brucie, Artemis, Alfred, Richy, Wally, and I all make our way to the counter.
"I quite like this place," papa says with a grin. "We should come back here later when we're a bit more normal."
Momma nudges him teasingly as they both giggle to themselves.
The man behind the register is wearing a store bought Batman costume with a name tag that says Mark. "Welcome to Batburger, may I take your order?"
Bruce pays for Artemis, Wally, and the Batfam. They begin to order. Bruce is first.
I look up at the menu and smirk. "Boltenders?"
"Do you want to Jokerize those fries?" Mark asks Bruce.
"Oh?" Papa raises an eyebrow interested.
"Jokerize?" Bruce questions with obvious disdain.
"It's, like, special seasoning they put on it," Mark answers uninterested. "But it's, like, white, red, and y'know... green."
Bruce leans on the counter, getting close to him. "The Joker is a homicidal maniac. An agent of pure chaos. He wants to kill us all just so he can laugh over our graves."
Papa grins, withholding his laughs with much difficulty.
"So... uh, you don't want to Jokerize your fries?" Mark asks.
"Yeah, no. I think he's good," Richy jumps in.
Alfred, Wally, Artemis, and Richy order. Wally obviously ordering 4 giant burgers. Much to the surprise of my parents and Mark.
"Wow, he eats just as much as you do," momma comments.
"Well, I want a batburger deluxe and definitely Jokerize my fries!" papa says, slamming two twenties on the counter.
"I want an ivy salad," momma says.
"Oh, I definitely want some Robin nuggets!" I exclaim. "Jokerize dem fries too!"
Wally begins to laugh as Richy hides his hands in his face. Alfred even lets out a chuckle.
"Anything else?" Mark asks.
"Oh, yeah," I say. "Boltenders, two batburger deluxe oversized, and a large lemonade with no ice."
Mark along with the others look at me with wide eyes, looking at my size.
"She has a big appetite," momma says.
We quickly get our food. Artemis, Wally, Richy, and I stuff ourselves into a booth. Richy and I sit together, forcing Artemis and Wally to sit together. The adults sit at a table near us.
"So, who are you?" I ask Wally.
"Wally, Dick's best friend," Wally says. "It's nice to finally meet you, Dawn. Dick talks so much about you."
"I do not!" Richy huffs.
"I thought Rob was your best friend?" Artemis asks.
"You can have more than one best friend, Artemis," Wally says, sticking out his tongue.
"Who's Rob?" I ask, mentally smirking.
"A friend from camp," Wally says, glancing at Richy.
"So, how did you two meet?" Artemis asks, taking a bite of her boltenders.
"Wow! These fries taste great!" papa exclaims.
"They are really good," I admit, shoving a few in my mouth.
"We met at a party," Wally says. "One that I was–" He cuts himself off glancing towards me. "...speeding around for extra allowance."
I take the lie as a fibbed undercover mission.
"Ah, flashy," Artemis responds, eating a few fries.
"Yeah, it was a surprise he crashed right into me," Richy continues.
"Uh, huh," Artemis hums, turning to me. "Have you ever noticed that your dad looks like Joker?"
I tense. "R-really?" I stutter. "I-I've never noticed. It's the hair, right?"
"And his grin," Wally adds.
"He just has a really goofy strict face," I grumble.
"You don't really look like your parents," Richy adds. "You only got your hair from him."
"Yeah, you're eyes don't even match theirs," Wally says.
"My grandma has aqua eyes on my mom's side," I lie.
"Ah, skipped a generation," Wally nods. "That makes sense."
"I've always liked your eyes," Artemis says.
"The name Dawn fits you," Richy says. "Like a dawn stone."
I laugh. "Pokédork."
"Like you have room to talk," he counters.
"True." I look to Artemis then Wally. "So, at this camp... did you two date?"
"WHAT?!" they both scream, causing everyone in the restaurant to look towards us. "Her/him?! No!"
Richy and I snicker.
"I've been told that couples talk at the same time," I say.
"We're not a couple," they say, turning to each other in annoyance. "Stop! No you stop! Stop copying me!"
Richy and I burst out laughing.
"You gotta admit, you'd look cute together," Richy says.
"Agreed," I nod.
Their faces match Wally's hair and they turn away from each other, trying to hide their blush.
We ended the night with laughs and I feel they didn't suspect papa was Joker. Maybe they did, it wouldn't surprise me, but it wasn't ever brought up.
