Toni

Hey

Hey...

You good?

Yeah... I'm fine

Your mom was really generous letting me stay at a motel let alone pay for my stay here.

How are you finding it there

It's pretty nice

That's great to hear

Look...

About what happened at dinner...

I don't want to talk about it it, Urie

I think we should

What's there to talk about other than I was humiliated and chased out of your home

I just want to know if everything you said is how you really feel about my family

And me

I sigh as I stare at the read message I had just sent in Toni's inbox. I honestly don't know what I was hoping and expecting asking her knowing that she wasn't going to give me an answer or at the very least be honest with me when I give her the opportunity. And this very much confirms what Ma told me later that night when I confronted her about it.

"Ma, can I talk to you?" I asked.

"Depends on what you want to talk about, son." She answered nonchalantly, putting the dishes away in the dishwasher.

"It's about what happened at dinner."

"And like that, you've lost me."

"Ma, I'm trying to have a serious conversation with you."

"So am I. And I'm failing. And I'm sorry about that." She answers, giving me a blank stare. "I'm already disappointed enough in my second born and his poor taste and standards in women. I don't need to be even more disappointed that he's coming to scold me for standing up for him and his siblings."

"What you did to Toni was out of line, Ma. You could have been nicer to her."

"I was being nice. The worst I would have done in that situation was turning the family dinner into a WWE tables, ladders and chairs match and one of us going to prison. And I'm probation."

"On probation? Nevermind that. You didn't have to kick her out of the house."

"I'm sorry? Who lives and pays bills in this house? And pays rent?"

"Ma – "

"Answer the question, boy."

"...you and Pa."

"Exactly. We decide who gets to stay in our holy and sacred sanctuary. And unrecyclable trash and arrogant bigots are not welcome here."

"See, this is exactly what I'm talking about! You're being disrespectful towards her for no reason. You've never been nice to her!"

"People who openly disrespect my family and repeatedly breaks my son's heart deserve no kindness from me." She narrowed her eyes. "I may not have a say on who you choose to be with, but as your mother, I will tell you when you're being blind and stupid. Which you've been ever since your little situationship with that heifer started. And I am under no obligation to like her and you know it."

"But – "

"But nothing." Her voice was firm and stern. She was not going to discuss this topic any further nor was she going to change her mind and opinions on it.

"Come sit with me." She nods towards the kitchen island. We both settle down, sitting at opposite ends of the table, facing each other. "I don't know what goes on between you and this woman, but whatever it is. I can tell that it's making you feel trapped."

"I'm not trapped – "

"Deny it all you want, Urie, but my instincts never lie." She tells me. "I know you better than anyone else because I gave birth to you and raised you. Tell me what you really feel."

I was silent. "I don't feel trapped," I said. "I just don't feel certain whether she really wants to be with me or if she's just waiting for her fiancé to come back. But I keep praying and hoping for the former."

"I'm pretty sure that you've heard this quite often, but I'm going to say it." Ma leaned against the table and looked me dead in the eye. "That woman doesn't love you and probably never will. If she did, she wouldn't being making you feel all that you're feeling or even said what she said about you and your siblings."

"Maybe she didn't mean it."

"Then why don't you ask her? But I highly doubt she'll give you an answer or be honest with you because she knows that she said was fucked and doesn't want to face the consequences of her words."

"Who you texting?" Feenyx's voice startles me, making nearly drop my phone into the swimming pool.

"Damnint, Nyxxie! Don't ever do that." I clutch my phone to my chest, trying to calm my racing heart. "When did you get here. And where did you get that mermaid tail?"

"First answer: I just got here," she sits next to me and dips her feet into the water, setting the green mermaid tail beside her. "Second answer: I bought it obviously."

"Okay, but why? What do you need it for?" I ask, watching her slip it on.

"To embrace my inner Ariel."

I blink staring at her dumbfounded. "What?"

"Why not? I have the purple sea shell bra on, the natural red hair and the green tail. It's my Disney Princess moment."

"Ariel has blue eyes. Not hazel eyes."

"Oh you're killing my vibe. Oh you're killing my vibe."

"Can you stop quoting songs?"

"Can you stop killing my Disney Princess moment?"

I roll my eyes.

"I answered your questions. Now answer mine; who you texting?"

I frown, putting my phone away. "No one in particular."

"Boy don't lie to me. I know you were texting that Trashta girl and your face says it all."

"So why ask questions you know the answers to?"

"Just in case I might be wrong. I thought after she roasted you and your siblings at dinner last week, you'd avoid talking to her. So much for that." She replies. "But damn, your mama is a beast. The way she put Tiffany in her place. She really said; Bitch be humble. Sit down."

"Stop quoting songs."

"Hater." She scoffs, flipping her hair. "That reminds me, did you say anything after that. Knowing you. I'd imagine you confronting your mom despite doing the right thing."

That woman doesn't love you and probably never will. If she did, she wouldn't being making you feel all that you're feeling or even said what she said about you and your siblings.

"Nothing worth talking about." I answer dismissively.

She hums, not at all believing me – not that I expect her to – but she doesn't press for answers. "Well, let me live my Disney Princess moment. I'm finna be Ariel in this bitch."

She dives into the pool, splashing me in the process.

"Hey! At least give me a warning next time!" I scold her when she emerges to the surface and slicks her hair back.

"Sound like a you problem, pretty boy." She grins mischievously before diving back in.

I shake my head before grabbing my phone and opened Toni's DM. Still no response from her. I sigh.

Toni

Don't forget about the Arcane Festival, okay

"Are you sure your girlfriend knows that we're going to the Arcane Festival?" Vinny asks. "'Cause it sounds to me like she a) doesn't know that we're down here at the reception waiting for her or b) she genuinely doesn't want to come with us."

"She knows. She read my text." I answer.

"So option b." Vinny comments, sliding down the couch, earning a glare from me. "Don't give me that look! You know I'm right! When has she ever wanted to hang out without you asking her?"

"Just be patient with her. At least give her that." I insist.

"Or we can just ditch her."

My glare now shifts to Feenyx. "What? We've been waiting for her for two hours already."

"We're not leaving her behind."

"And we can't force her to come with us if she don't want to, pretty boy. I put a lot of blood, sweat and tears in looking good for this festival and I ain't gonna miss it."

Feenyx's outfit consists of a pair of faded jeans that were ripped at her thighs and knees that hugged her slim waist and wide hips along with a pair of white knee-high heeled boots with tinsels. She's also wearing a rainbow-coloured tinsel jacket, a thin headband around the crown of her curly red head and rainbow eyeshadow. She really went all out on her look.

Vinny did put a lot of work into his look seeing that he's wearing a pair of denim jeans with a silver chain hanging around his belt, a pair of black timberlands, a maroon long-sleeved woollen t-shirt with a designer waistcoat and a green beanie.

Sid settled for a simple white buttoned-down shirt with feather designs on them, a pair of brown leather pants and a pair of black loafers while I settled for a black and white striped tunic shirt, and a pair of black pants, black boots and a green and yellow flannel jacket.

"Urie!"

My eyes move from my friends to Toni striding towards our direction. To say that I was happy and relieved would be an understatement and I can't get over how beautiful she looks.

Her blonde locks are carefully styled into loose waves, her lips tinted a dark shade of purple, her short yellow summer dress flowing with every elegant step she takes. I'm so mesmerised by her presence I barely even paid attention to whatever smart remark Feenyx made.

"Hey," she stands in front of me, a dazzling smile tugging her lips.

"Hey," I respond breathlessly. "You look beautiful."

"Thanks." She blushes.

"Girl, you are late as fuck. You had us thinking you didn't want to come." Feenyx says.

"Sorry. I just woke up when I saw the text. So I had to rush and get ready."

"Translation: I totally forgot we had plans today and I'm only coming so I don't appear as though I'm the bad guy – ow!" Vinny yelps when I nudge him in the ribs.

"That's okay. What matters is that you're here." I smile at her, ignoring Vinny's glare.

"Great stuff! Now that we got the gang together, let's get this show on the roll." Feenyx announces.

"Ready to go?" I turn to Toni and grab her hand. She hums and nods as we exit the motel and head to my car.

"You're taking the front seat," Toni asks, frowning upon seeing Feenyx opening the door to the front seat.

"Yeah, is there a problem?" Feenyx arches an eyebrow.

"No. Not at all." Toni lets out a ragged laugh. "I just thought that you were going to sit at the back and let me seat at the front."

"First off, it's a free country. Anyone can have the front seat. Secondly, it's a first-come, first serve and I happened to be the first one to get the front seat."

"I get that, but since you guys invited me – "

"Holy Hera! Don't tell me you're trying to argue with me over a car seat." Feenyx quips amused.

"I'm not trying to argue – "

"You know, for someone who was preachy about maturity a week ago, you sure not living by what you preach."

"Stop it." I hiss at Feenyx, glaring at her.

"Ey, I'm not the one being a hypocrite, pretty boy. Your girlfriend is."

"I'm not his girlfriend."

"Suuuure. Whatever you say, Queen Antoinette Junior." Feenyx rolls her eyes, getting in through the front seat.

"Don't." I warn Toni. "Don't start what you can't finish."

I can already tell that she's not pleased with the advice I'm giving her and partly because Feenyx isn't letting her have her way, but nonetheless, she relents and takes heed of my warning. But not before giving a displeased look at Feenyx, who responds back with a taunting air kiss.
