Scene Thirty-Three
Conspiracies Around Identical Twins
°♡°
"Hey, Urie. Have I ever told you that twins freak me out? Like identical twin?" Vinny asks out of the blue as I am grading assignments.
Vinny and I happened to have a free period together and conveniently have the staff room to ourselves. Feenyx was already teaching her first class as the official Latin teacher. As much as I did vouch for Feenyx back in the meeting, I just hope she's going easy on the kids instead of being – you know – her. But either way, I'm positive things will go on well – hopefully.
"No, Vincent. This is the first time I'm hearing this." I answer uninterested.
I can feel his eyes burning and drilling through the right side of my skull, meaning that he's waiting for me to ask him.
I sigh and cave in, "Why?"
"Because they're one person but they're not." He explains.
"They're not one person, they're two different people," I interject.
"No, they're not. If we look at it scientifically, they're one egg split into two. Therefore, they're the same person but they exist twice. And if we really think about it, they're like real-life shadow clones from Naruto."
"Shadow clones are just copies of themselves."
"Yes, but twins are also copies of themselves."
I slam my pen on my desk and meet his gaze with a glare. "I hate that you're making so much sense."
"Love you too, bestie." He winks, giving me finger guns.
Right when I flipped him off, Toni enters the staffroom, taking long strides towards our direction. Her face appears to be stoic, but I can see that she's angry about something. "Can we talk?"
"What's up?" I enquire giving Toni my full attention.
"It's about Feenyx."
"I heard Feenyx's name. What's the sitch?" Vinny appears, leaning his arm against my cubicle while resting his chin on his hand.
"It's nothing that needs your attention, Vincent. And I feel more comfortable discussing it alone with, Urie." She tells him.
"Well, Feenyx is also my friend who happens to be my sister from another mister. So, I'm very confident that whatever you want to talk about that concerns her specifically, you can talk about it with me." Vinny says, giving her a tight-lipped smile.
"I understand that, but as I said, I feel more comfortable discussing it with Urie."
"And as I said whatever it is you want to say, you can say it to the both of us." Vinny insists with a smile. "And who knows, I might be helpful."
She turns to me with eyes asking me to tell him to back off. "Nothing I'll say will make him leave. Sorry." I tell her, raising my hands.
She frowns, pursing her lips but she doesn't say anything.
"So, what did Feenyx do this time?" I ask, bracing myself for whatever wild shit Feenyx did. Knowing her, I wouldn't even be surprised that she got Hermes or any of the gods involved in her shenanigans.
"She's been gossiping and spreading rumours about me around the staffroom."
Vinny and I both share a look. He and I both know that something isn't adding up.
"She's been gossiping and spreading rumours about you," I echo her words with scepticism lacing my tone.
"What kind of gossip and rumours?" Vinny asks.
"She's been saying a lot of bad things about me."
"What kind of bad things?"
"Does it matter?"
"Yes, as a matter of fact, it does because that's one hell of a bold accusation you're making, Antoinette."
"Hey. Let's not get hostile, okay? We're having a discussion." I cautioned Vinny before turning back to Toni. "But I'm with Vinny on this. Feenyx is hardly the type to take part in gossip let alone spread rumours. Maybe she happened to be present and listening in on the gossip, but she's never cared about workplace gossip."
"Then why is she spreading rumours about me?" Toni asks.
"Did you walk in on her gossiping and spreading rumours about you or were you told that she was gossiping and spreading rumours about you?" Vinny asks. He seems to know what her response is going to be, but he's asking anyway just to confirm.
She pauses, her cheeks are tinted pink from embarrassment. "I was told by Bianca and Ashlyn."
"And there it is," Vinny exclaims. "You really are that gullible believing those two."
"Why would they lie and make this up?" she points out.
"Why would they not? These are the same hussies who spread rumours about me being a baby daddy just from a picture of me holding Nicole when she was two months old! Eloi and Kayleigh had to step in and explain the situation and clear this misunderstanding and to this day I feel bad that they had to put their business out there for my sake when they didn't have to!"
"Did you at least confront her about it?" I ask.
She fidgets. "I didn't think I needed to."
Vinny facepalms while I let out a sigh.
"You ain't got a sense God give a billy goat." Vinny remarks. "And here I thought you had already talked about it with Feenyx. But you just took your friends' word for it like it's Gospel. I'm starting to think the only reason why you wanted to talk to Urie alone is that you know that he's going to take your side even if he was going to see through your bullshit. I wouldn't be surprised if you're also lying about it either."
"How is what I'm telling you a lie? She's been nothing but hostile with me for no reason when I've been nothing but nice to her. She was even petty enough to teach a class I introduced."
"Nice? Last time I checked you were the one instigating shit. The only time she's ever hostile towards anyone is if you give her a reason to." Vinny argues. "And it's not like she pointed a gun to Simmons head or bribed him with sex to "steal your dream job"."
"Look Toni," I sigh, already at my limit with their bickering. "Whatever problem you have with Feenyx, talk it out with her. I'm sure if you voice out what you feel, she'll listen."
"Matter of fact, you can do it now." Vinny points at Feenyx entering the staffroom.
Dread registers on her face as turns it loses its colour upon seeing Feenyx. "You don't have to do that."
"Oh no, no, no. I think we have to." He insists. "Yo! Feenyx! Get over here!"
