❝Just One Day❞

【Adelaide】
There were three beds in this room, which I'm guessing applies the same to the boys' section since six people are supposed to be in one cabin. The three beds were vertically arranged in a row. Beside the right side of each bed was a small wooden drawer. White curtains draped down a window that shows the outside and a little side view of the cabin porch. On the right corner of the room was a bathroom. The walls and and floor were made of bamboo. It was a nice little change from seeing my own bedroom wall for days.
I immediately changed from my soaked clothes to new ones. I put on my favorite french pink loose knit sweater and plain black pants. I redid my hair to the same double space buns.
As Pink and I finished putting away our things in place, Pink flopped on her bed, which was the farthest one from the door.
"I'm so wiped," Her voice was muffled since she had her face on her pillow. She slightly turned her head towards me. "I'm going to take a short nap."
I arched an eyebrow. "Don't we have some kind of public ceremony thing in a bit?"
"Oh," She blew a strand of hair out of her face. "That won't be until twelve noon."
"So... I got drenched by the rain because I was rushing to get here since I thought I might have been late, just to find out I have three extra hours."
"You didn't read the letter?"
I sat on my bed, the nearest one to the door, and hugged my pillow. "It had too many words, and they were like, font size ten."
Pink's light laugh filled the air. "I figured."
"Hey," She shifted her position and faced me fully, still lying down, her hands under her right cheek, pressing against the bed. "Thanks for coming."
"Anytime," I said. "Have any idea who's the third girl and guy for the cabin?"
A smile crept upon Pink's face again. "Maigo and Ash."
My eyes widened. "No way."
"Papers don't lie," Pink shrugged. "I invited them too, but knowing both of them, I thought they would decline. So I was pretty surprised yet happy to find out."
"Well, that's understandable, but all of us in the same cabin?"
She nodded. "Must be some kind of witchcraft going on around here."
We both laughed. It felt so nice to be hanging out with someone else rather than just staying in my house. I felt a little proud of myself for trying out something new, otherwise I would have missed out on small things such as this.
Pink let out a yawn, which then followed by a giggle. "I'm going to nap now, if you don't mind."
"Okay," I stood up and Pink's eyes were already shut tight. She's a fast sleeper.
I headed towards the window, the bamboo floor making slight creaking sounds every other step. Parting the white curtains, I gazed outside at the camp. Campers of different ages ran around the fields, playing. Adults and staff prepared for the ceremony. It's hard to believe it rained heavily earlier with the bright sun shining down on the field. The only signs that a downpour occurred were the damp dewy grasslands.
My eyes landed on the side of the cabin porch. I could spot half the view of the colors of pastel pink hair. An evil smile made its way up to my face.
Interesting.
I quietly made my way to the door and exited the girls' section, closing the door right behind me. The boys' section's door was close and I could hear someone snoring. I assumed that was Cole, seeing as he's nowhere else.
I then crept to the front door of the cabin, opening it slowly to avoid its annoying creaking sounds. I poked my head out and saw Ulysses sitting on the wooden chair, his head tilted to the side.
He's asleep.
So much for a surprise attack.
I sighed and walked towards where he was.
He had his arms crossed. His pastel pink hair seemed darker in the cover of shadows. His plump lips opened slightly, air coming out from them. His eyes shut, leading me to realize how long his eyelashes were. He had no expression whatsoever then.
Just still.
Sleeping, he looked so peaceful and delicate...
... Unlike the usual grump he is.
I sat next to him, though I scooted as far away from him as possible. This would be a good place to put a swing. The breeze is refreshing too. I glanced at Ulysses and for a moment, I thought I saw something on his face.
I frowned and leaned a little closer to take a look.
Tears.
His eyebrows slightly knitted as he uttered a word.
"Don't."

Two and a half hours have passed and everyone else was just waking up. I stayed awake the whole time, eating bags of chips that I forgot to put away.
Ulysses narrowed his eyes at me. "Just one day sharing the same cabin as you, and I already feel like I'm living in a dumpster."
Just one day sharing the same cabin as you, and I already feel like I'm living in hell.
Oh, wait. I already was, since we met.
Summer Lie #8: Be organized.
"Then shower," I spat, glaring back at him. He just rolled his credulous silver eyes and headed for the boys' section, his towel over his shoulder.
Wow. What a moody guy. Definitely not the same person I saw earlier, sleeping on the bench.
Then again...
"Don't."
. . .
Obviously, his dream seemed to have affected his mood. I wanted to ask about it but I had the feeling I was only going to get the cold shoulder.
Just as Ulysses loudly shut the door behind him, Pink came out from our room. Her hair was nicely combed and tumbled down on one side of her shoulder. She wore a light green polka dot t-shirt and navy blue shorts.
Pink frowned. "What's with him?"
I shrugged.
Suddenly, the door to the cabin creaked open and two people, holding bags over their shoulders, stood there, peeking at the room.
Maigo fixed her glasses. She glanced at Ash behind her, who waved at Pink and I, then turned her attention to us.
"Hey."
