Keefe

It was all nothingness.

Everything was numb, as if he was trapped in some kind of void.

Maybe he was, he couldn't be too sure of anything.

Yet everything was so peaceful, quiet and calm.

Abnormally so.

He wandered around the darkness, unsure of where he was.

Maybe this wasn't even real, just his subconsiouness in yet another space.

But how?

Everything from before seemed pretty hazy, and no memory of any sort seemed to be able to come to his mind.

One thing was for sure, he was in trouble.

Nothing new here though.

It felt odd, to feel nothing, like he wasn't even in his own body.

Strange, he noted.

Maybe he could find a way to get out, there will always be one.

And so that he started to work on.

But you can't build houses with sand, and that pretty much applied to the current situation.

Then there was light.

A small glimpse of it, that was all it took for hope to be rekindled.

He started to run towards that tiny seep in this bizarre void of emptiness, just trying to keep up with that flying piece of aglow.

Then things started piecing up together, or somewhat so.

Blurred memories came crashing through the blackness, like his whole life was unfolding in front of him.

It wasn't pleasant at all.

Lady Gisela and Lord Cassius were the more prominent ones of course, their judgemental, disappointed, disgusted sneers and harsh words each an obstacle, challenging his path to the glowing orb he was trying so hard to chase.

The words still stung though.

His vision was blurred by the unknowing tears, and he forced himself to once again push against it.

"Put on a happy face, they'll go away," he whispered to himself, finding comfort in the doubt.

He had to fight-

The Neverseen.

The thought crashed so abruptly, then did he remember what was going on.

Sophie!

He left her there, would she be freaking out if he got cut off?

Silently cursing under his breath, he started sprinting towards to light.

He needed to get out of here, as fast as possible.

She was probably in danger already!

He gritted his teeth at how foolish he was to make that move.

Seriously, to leave an injured person there all alone, in a battle, he had to add.

The gold orb seemed to be drifting even further, and the darkness surrounding the whole place made it seem like an endless chase.

He had to fight for everything.

He couldn't bare it if something happened to her-

That would ruin his world, for some reason he didn't really want to admit aloud, not that he wasn't that subtle about it either, but then again she was always so darn oblivious and all-

That didn't really matter as of now, he just had to protect her first.

Channelling every bit of energy as much as he could to his legs, he ran, ignoring all the other sour memories clouding his way.

And it helped, for the orb was right in front of him, and he was certain that he heard faint voices from it, as if it was calling out to him.

A touch was all it needed, and a wave of something so beautiful and sweet was all he felt as he stepped out of the darkness, and into the light.

Sophie

She had no idea how long she had been limping for, only that she knew she was close.

Keeping her attention at the peak, she stepped cautiously at the spot where Keefe mysteriously cut off their connection.

Was it on purpose?

Was it suppose to be a sort of warning?

Now she started to regret not thinking it through properly, but welp.

She already threw caution at the wind, so why stop here?

Argh, Keefe was really rubbing off her.

She tried to connect to his mind again, spreading her telepathy to try to find the familiar tune or whatever she couldn't put it to words.

But she just couldn't find anything-

"EEK!" shr barely gasped for air as she got blown away by a gust of wind, forgetting that the Neverseen had a freaking guster and they were in the mountains.

She fell to the floor with a loud thud, her ankle unfortunately landing in an awkward angle, and she was pretty sure she sprained it.

Gritting her teeth from the uncomfortable feeling, she forced herself to stand back up, bracing for any other attacks.

"Before you do anything, I suggest you listen to our terms," the sickening voice of Lady Gisela called, followed by three shadows in hoods.

"Why should I?" she challenged, trying to channel Keefe's edge and snark.

Lady Gisela flipped her hood, revealing a cruel grin as she pointed to the glowing dome Sophie didn't notice before.

"I bet you're wondering how he is doing, honestly, I am too. Shadowflux can have quite a few setbacks, can't it?"

Sophie gasped, then attempted to peak into the dome, trying to get a glimpse of how he was doing.

The previous time she encountered shawdowflux left an unforgettable echo, and it felt suffocating.

If he had so much that he became unconscious-

Sophie had no idea what to do.

Other than to let all the peer up frustration and anger up, in a single wave of her inflicting.

But that would be plan B, until then, she had to find out what the Neverseen wanted.

"What do you want?" she managed to choke out, then cringing at how vulnerable she sounded.

"A distraction," was all the shadows answered, before they all disappeared, the dome glitching together.

She stood there, shocked at how they played her again.

They should be nearby, if they were able to use their abilities.

That meant the rest were in danger as well.

Should she make a run for it and try to capture them?

But leaving Keefe there felt so wrong, especially after he just saved her before.

And so she ran as fast as her healing leg and injured ankle could take her, crouching down to check on the expressionless boy.

"Keefe! Keefe! Can you hear me?" she asked as she helped him up, letting his body lean against her.

With no response, Sophie could only see the black ink spread in his chest.

It was like Fitz's, only that this completely knocked him out.

She took deep breaths, trying to calm down her nerves, but the rapid thumping against her chest, unsure whether because of the uncertainty or the fact that his body was leaned against hers that caused it.

But she pressed her finger against his temple, trying to make sense of what was in his head.

The swirls of darkness were so violent, nothing like she experienced before.

"Keefe!" was the only thing she managed to transmit before she had to get out, the mental turmoil in his head too much to handle.

It wasn't a good sign, to say the least.

"Inflicting," she mumbled as she heaved a sigh of relief, glad that she didn't use her energy before.

"Hang on Keefe, I'm going to try something," she murmured as she closed her eyes, channeling all the happy thoughts.

When she came to the Lost Cities, when she met Dex, the time when she found Iggy, they all came so naturally and complied together so nicely, it only took her a little mental push.

It took her a second or two to recover, but nothing was stirring in his head.

It was as if it didn't impact anything at all.

"Keefe! Keefe wake up!" she whispered as she shook him a little.

He was still breathing at least, but it was a little shallow-

Happy thoughts, happy thoughts, she had to remind herself as tears sprang into her eyes.

She couldn't lose him, he was one of the few people who knew just how to cheer her up.

Without him-

She really didn't want to think of her life without his stupid jokes and everyday teasing.

"Keefe, come on. You can do it, whatever you're going through now," she encouraged, hoping that he could hear her.

"Keefe, come on!" she said, with the tears unknowingly spilling.

She couldn't live without him, she couldn't!

Yet she couldn't help either.

Her energy was draining fast, and she had to look out for any danger.

She had to wait for someone to save them.

But would Keefe make it then?

She really, really hoped so.

"Come on, you can fight. I know you can," she whispered again and again, wishing that he could hear her.

"Come on Keefe Sencen!" She shouted now, the tears just streaking out.

She didn't care. she just needed him to get up and tell her everything would be fine.

But without him, everything wouldn't be.
