ch. 10
ANOTHER fine day to figure out what happened with this village. nanako and the rest of her friends got ready to start and investigate.
"let's split up into groups of three. we need to get to know our environment first. observe a bit and if there's anything you see, let me know. we'll meet back here in an hour", nanako said.
thus, dabi and todoroki were a group. mina, midoriya, and bakugo another group, then finally tomura and nanako was the last group.
heading south, nanako and tomura walked side by side, observing the calm streets. it almost seemed too calm. too empty. it was weird seeing no one even in broad daylight.
"tomura, maybe we should look in the alleyways. there must be people that can't afford houses that live there", nana suggested.
tomura nodded and followed the girl's path to a semi-dark alley.
"e-excuse me sir...my name is nana. I was just wondering..umm...why is no one out in the open during the day?", nana asked a hobo who reminded her of knight aizawa.
the hobo stirred a bit. he coughed slightly, making tomura pull nana back away from him. the hobo looked up at the lady and man.
"m-miss...I'll t-tell you e-everything. b-but please...let me have some w-water first", he said to the best of his ability with his raspy voice.
pulling out a water bottle from her bag, nana handed it to the poor man in front of her. taking a big swig, the old man was finally able to speak in more fluent sentences without pausing.
"miss nana, this village has been like this for about two to three years. the reason you don't see anyone is because most of the villagers are scared of new people", he explained.
"and why's that? I thought this used to be a bustling village?", nana questioned.
"indeed it was, miss nana. however, after this man and his underlings showed up, he started threatening us. something about cleaning out the diseased..."
"the diseased?? what disease is there?", nana asked, even more curious now.
"he said something about the people of heroism are diseased. he was very headstrong about his opinion too. he got in an argument with the chief of the village, and that's how news spread quickly throughout".
"what does the man look like and where's your village chief right now?", tomura suddenly asked.
"our village chief died, killed by that man. the man...the man has—"
before the old man could finish his words, an arrow pierced his heart. nana looked towards the direction of which the arrow came from to find no one.
"nanako, we need to get out of here before we're next. let's head back", tomura said as he pulled nana along.
running quickly, nana noticed tomura was holding her hand. blushing a bit, she looked at tomura. he looked quite handsome even in normal folklore clothing.
both panting after a while of running, they finally arrived back at the inn.

"so what did you guys find?", I asked the other two groups. we now sat at the dining area of the inn.
"we found nothing interesting princess", dabi reported while todoroki stayed quiet.
"there wasn't much on our end either. however, we found a man dressed in all white. he was quite the looker too~", mina said.
"mina, get to the point", I said.
"okay okayyyy. he had an arrow-shaped hair, greyish-white—"
"and you said he's quite the looker. he sounds old to me", I mumbled to myself, making dabi snort.
mina rolled her eyes playfully. "okay well he looked young despite his hair color! I mean, look at todoroki!! his hair is literally half white!!"
"don't insult my baby todoroki, mina! todoroki is a snacc and even if all his hair was white, he'd still look like a snacc", I said, defending him.
"ahem. I believe we should be talking about our findings, and not who we think is attractive", tomura interrupted.
"ah right right. ok so...", I started to explain everything tomura and I heard from the old man in the alley before he died.
after a while of discussing, we were brought back to the point of 'why did duke kai suddenly show up?'
"duke kai...duke kai...TOMURA!", I suddenly shouted, scaring him slightly.
"y-yeah?", he asked, as he readjusted his seating position after being scared by the sudden change of volume in my voice.
"say...duke kai said he's from the villain's kingdom. you're the prince there, don't you know of him? or what he's like?", I asked.
"why're you suddenly so curious about him?", tomura inquired.
"don't you all think it's kinda weird that he just...I don't know, like showed up? and a daughter? that girl is clearly scared out of her wits", I explained.
"dabi, do you recall a duke kai?", tomura asked.
"I don't seem to recall, prince tomura. there's very few who are wealthy to say, in the villain's kingdom. if he were a duke, we would've for sure kept note of him and seen him at a party or two...", dabi reported.
"does chisaki kai ring a bell?", I asked.
"no it does not, princess nanako", dabi responded.
"dabi, just call me nanako or nana, I don't really care for my title. plus, you're my friend too", I said with a smile.
"a-are you sure princess?", he questioned, looking at tomura, seeming to ask if it was okay.
"yeah yeah! plus, if you want, you can also call me nana", I said while looking at tomura.
"a-alright then...n-nana", tomura hesitantly said. 'honestly, it was kinda cute seeing him stutter over my nickname'.
"anyways, back to chisaki kai. if he's not who he says, then how'd he get into the royal ball that's hosted annually?", I asked.
"maybe he snuck in?", mina suggested.
"not likely. security's pretty high. it'd take a lot to even try and infiltrate", todoroki stated.
"plus, he walked in dressed wealthy-like. he wasn't stopped by any of the guards, meaning he had an invitation", midoriya said.
"maybe he fucking stole someone's invitation. that's a possibility", bakugo said.
"not likely. only high class people are given the invitation, and if he were to steal someone's invitation, the royal family would've been alerted of such an act", I rebutted.
"maybe someone who's close to you somehow got one for him", tomura suddenly said.
"it's not impossible for someone to take an invitation and send it out from the palace", he continued.
"perhaps. but everything's too vague right now. we mustn't assume. let's take a good night's rest and continue this tomorrow", I offered.
everyone nodded and left, leaving me and tomura. "goodnight tomura. I'll see you tomorrow", I said, smiling.
"night nana...", he mumbled before walking to his room.
sighing, I walked in me and mina's shared room. 'what a day'.
