'Language Barriers'

[For context, if it's hard to follow: This comic is about Tenny (protag in first panel), a deaf teenager. Other than that this should be pretty self explanatory - also I'm aware that some of the text is hard to read, I couldn't find a colour that worked well enough without the need for a background. So the script is printed below the comic. You're welcome.]

I once knew a boy who took the world at face value.

For words meant nothing to him - he couldn't hear them, so why would they?

They bullied what they didn't understand...and eventually made their venom physical so he couldn't shrug it off. 

And yet, he always got back up. Always smiled as I passed him. Always helped people who couldn't help themselves. 

I respected that. I fell for that.

One day, he casually asks me: 'Do you like anyone?'

And I found it the perfect excuse to show off the sign language I'd learned for him. 'Yes - but it makes me sad that he's never head my voice.'

I'll never forget the look that followed; how fast his smile morphed into something I couldn't quite explain. He set his notebook aside...turned to face me...

'I don't need to hear your voice to love you.'
