"Is this some kind of rite of passage for you," he asks, fingers holding your hair and scissors poised to chop them all off.

"I like to fondly think of it as an exorcism," you reply cheerfully.

"Remind me again why we're cutting off your hair, Rapunzel."

"Because, I am purging myself of everything that reminds me of my evil ex."

"So you want me to hack off your hair."

"Yes."

"That's a shame, I've always liked your long hair."

"He liked it too."

He shrugs, poorly hiding the frown on his face, "whatever the customer wants."

He knew this routine well. Girls showing up, eyes red from long sleepless and tearful nights. he'd listened to half a million sob stories about breakups, heartaches, and cheaters.

But what made you so different? His annoying childhood friend, with the same predicament as all those other girls.

"There," he says, finally done with your new hair.

"You didn't do anything to it," you frown.

"I trimmed it," he defends.

"Nothing changed, I asked you to make me pretty," you pout.

"You are."
