BACKSTORY ;
makoto was actually born to parents who couldn't care for him , his biological mother and father were poor and struggled to care for the needs of a baby so instead he was sent to one of their friends who became his foster mother . makoto was a frail and weak child , struggling from narcolepsy and a weak body which made it so he struggled with keeping himself up , and for that reason his foster mother felt as if he wouldn't survive and became physically abusive to the boy in order to get rid of him so she wouldn't have to deal with taking him to any sort of doctor or wasting money on him anymore .

makoto though , was not naive , he was very aware in what was happening to him and for that reason , he fled from his foster mother at the age of eighteen and instead lived on the streets . in these years of being on the road , his body only became weaker from the cold and struggle to get any sort of food or water without money and that quickly became harder and harder to do the weaker his body became and the more messy his appearance got . he was covered in dirt and his hair , now reaching his ankles , was a mess and tangled , and he could barely stand himself up and settled on basically crawling instead . until , of course , a nicely dressed man with black hair approached him with an offer . the man introduced himself as muzan kibutsuji and made the offer to become a demon , with that he'd be immortal and wouldn't have to worry about being on the streets anymore , as long as he followed his every order . makoto , now a twenty year old , gave into the offer due to the fact that he'd do anything just to get off the streets .

makoto became practically an assistant to the upper moon demons due to the fact that he still possessed quite the frail body and wasn't all that good for battle , and muzan found him weak and unnecessary with the thought that he'd only get killed in a second against a heavily trained slayer . makoto instead , became useful to get information from any target with his skill of disguise and manipulation , making him mentally pretty strong yet physically weak and useless to battle — though he didn't mind at all . the thought of killing humans was disgusting to the boy and he could only see himself as a pacifist instead of a fighter which got him targeted a lot . and over the time , it became a threat to his life and makoto knew he had to escape . he had to get somewhere where he'd be safe , though he felt as if it was killed or killed .

if he fled the demons , he'd get killed by a slayer , though if he stayed with the demons he'd get killed by his master . though on one night , all of that thought went out the window as he escaped to a forest in an attempt to find someone who'd save him before the sun rose , and that luck came true , kind of . makoto crossed paths with the flame pillar , who at first wasn't gonna hesitate to jump into battle though makoto surrendered immediately once he realized what was gonna happen and instead pleaded for him to take him in . he promised to help the demon slayer corps and added on the fact that he wasn't dangerous and nor even into the taste of a human . and after what seemed to be forever , he was taken in to the hashira estate to be checked out and trusted , where he was tested with the scent of blood to make sure he could resist and questioned to make sure he wasn't any sort of spy attempting to manipulate and attack . makoto ended up becoming trustworthy and was taken in by the sound pillar , tengen uzui .

with that , makoto still currently stays with him at his estate and helps out the corps with the same manipulation and disguise tactics he used when alongside the demons . he's still hunted after by the upper moons and muzan , who swore to end him the moment they found him for the treason he committed .

RELATIONSHIPS ;

THE SOUND PILLAR ;
TENGEN UZUI

uzui is the hashira that currently houses and cares for makoto . he's become practically the care taker of makoto over the time since he was the only one who agreed to house him and makoto is grateful for that reason . makoto helps uzui with battle , even though not being able to do physical battle he still assists with the verbal part and getting information and whenever uzui is injured makoto helps with healing and helping him . makoto cares a lot for uzui and does what he can to protect him against demons because he feels like that's what's right after uzui had taken in and cared for him for so long

THE FLAME PILLAR ;
KYOJURO RENGOKU
—
rengoku was the first hashira to stumble across makoto that night that he ran off . he was the one who brought up the offer to trust makoto and house him at someone's estate after testing him since he felt like it was only right , seeing that he wasn't very dangerous and if he returned to the demons he'd get killed . for that reason , makoto thanks him and does what he can to repay what he's done for him and how kyojuro has saved his life .

THE INSECT PILLAR ;
SHINOBU KOCHO

although makoto and shinobu do not speak often , they still do get along since makoto oftenly has to go to the butterfly estate to get checked up on . he gets tested to make sure he isn't becoming dangerous and his body is tested to make sure he isn't becoming any weaker or any more frail , and if so he's given a medicine to strengthen him . shinobu and makoto usually will talk for a bit after his check up , making them close on that side . though outside of the check ups , they do not talk .

FOSTER MOTHER ;
REO YAMAMOTO

reo is the lady who took in makoto when his real parents could not , makoto still holds a hatred to her for attempting to kill him through abuses that he suffered through for years and he feels as if one day karma will come and fire back on her . makoto did attempt to kill her when he became a demon , though was unsuccessful and fled before he was killed by a slayer . they have not interacted since that night .

HIS EX MASTER ;
MUZAN KIBUTSUJI

muzan found makoto at the age of twenty where he made the offer to become a demon , that night he took him in and questioned his skill and what he was able to do and not do . makoto put his trust in muzan because he was saved by him though that quickly counteracted against him when muzan began getting aggressive with him . when makoto fled , muzan swore to kill him the moment he found him again .

UPPER MOON TWO ;
DOUMA

douma was the one who basically housed makoto when he stayed with the demons , though makoto doesn't really like douma all that much . he sees him as a no good pervert and shares a love hate relationship with the upper moon though they've had their moments of bonding . makoto was often flirted with from douma which made him uncomfortable , and lead to the hatred side of their relationship .

THE WIND PILLAR ;
SANEMI SHINAZUGAWA

makoto and sanemi don't exactly get along or not get along , they're very neutral on each other . sanemi was the one who's blood was tested against makoto so he's aware in the strength that the pillar has and chooses to stand back from him for that reason since he doesn't want to risk getting attacked . though makoto and sanemi have had their moments of bonding . it lasted about two seconds before sanemi got mad at him , but it still happened .

DEMON BLOOD ART ;
makoto's blood art is solely based on his manipulation . when someone stumbles across the scent of his blood , he's able to enhance their emotions and if he wants , even bring back something wanting to be forgotten so his target will break down and it'll be easier to perform an attack .
