"Bruce is so mad at me right now," Dick started hyperventilating, "I can't let him be mad at me again"

"He's not mad. Maybe a bit concerned but not mad," Briar tried to reassure Dick. "Hey, focus on me, not Bruce, try to breathe."

Eventually Dick got his breathing under control, "I just don't want us to be the reason he's mad." he whispered.

"If it is then i'll kick Batman's ass myself or I bet Alfred would with all the stories you have told me."

Dick laughed. " I don't think you could take on Batman, you're too nice. Alfred on the other hand-" He broke off chuckling, Briar joined in.

The two stopped laughing sometime and once they did Briar pulled Dick into an embrace. "You never gave me my cute message card." Trying to get Dick's mind off of Bruce.

"The message for today is, I love you with everything I have" Briar blushed, causing Dick to laugh and smile. "I knew you would blush!" Briar usually never blushes. He would casually roll his eyes and smile but barely blushed.

"Haha, you got me." Briar tried to be serious but broke out in a smile. God Briar loved Dick so much. He made him a better person, made him smile and laugh way more than he had in the past year. He made him happy and he would be damned if he's going to let Bruce ruin them.

Dick felt the same way. Briar made him feel whole. He made him feel comfortable in his own skin. Made him feel okay with his sexuality (bisexual). He loves Briar so much. If Bruce ruins this for him he will never forgive him.

So what if he told Briar their secret identities. It was his call to make. It was a life or death situation, he was bleeding out with nowhere to go. He had a call to make and as of right now he made the right call. So fuck Bruce and his stupid rules, not like i always followed them Dick thought.

"I should go talk to him," Dick paused for a moment before continuing, "and I should do it alone."

"I'll be right here unless one of your brothers comes and shows me around" Briar replied, happy that Dick is finally feeling confident in himself.

briar's name means : any of a number of prickly
 scrambling shrubs, especially the sweetbrier
and other wild roses.  
and that goes with the title of the story,
which is mostly why i named him briar
that and i love the name.
